M-Audio FastTrack USB - very low signal level (line/guitar)

I've used FastTrack USB for a couple of years with a microphone through the XLR input with no problems. Now I am trying to connect a line output of a synthesizer to the line input of the FastTrack and the signal level is very low. There is no noise, it's just quiet, even with the track volume all the way up it's still no match for the rest of the tracks.
Any suggestions, except for trying all the knobs and switches on the face and back of the unit (tried that already)? Anybody has similar setup?
I use FastTrack for audio input, and built-in audio for output, it's connected through a hub (no problems for two years). In GB microphone is going to the Channel 1 (mono), and still works fine. Synthesizer goes to Channel 2 (mono) and is really quiet. I tried the syn with two different 1/4 cables with no difference. The headphones jack on the front of the FastTrack works fine with the normal level adjustment range, and if I plug in the headphones directly into the line out of my syn, I have sound, quiet (like you would get by connecting headphones to any line out, turntable even) but steady, so the syn must be fine.
Any thoughts?

No takers. Hm. OK. After some more research on the Net it appears to be that all the Fast Tracks suffer from the same problem, which makes me believe that it's not a bug, but a feature of an unexplainable kind. Oh, well, back to my old iMic noisemaker (this one works, it's just screened very poorly, so it picks up all the possible interference, and also makes its own little nasty hiss--this is why I switched to the Fast Track a while ago--so I will need to cut it out with an EQ, again). Hopefully, the EQ surgery will not affect the synthesizer's sound consistency as severely as it use to do with a microphone.

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

  • ADAT into Logic Express, VERY low signals recorded

I tried Garageband, same problem, so now I am trying Logic Express.
When transferring tracks from an ADAT, through Alesis io/14, into Logic, the resulting sound files captured are VERY low signal. This should be a digitally ACCURATE TRANSFER. The Alesis montoring software on the mac senses the correct signal, the signal meters show correct levels (and sounds great), but Logic hears and records very low signals.
I note the Sound midi pref window only shows 6 channel 32 bit. It won't allow me to change to 8 channel 16 bit. Possible problem or am I chasing ghosts? I exhausted all my ideas.
    Any thoughts?

Discovering I was unable to import a ".au" file into Logic Express (or Garage Band) I read it into Sound Studio and exported it in a variety of formats. I can now successfully drag to Garage Band files in formats .aif .aifc .sd2 and .wav and get the expected result.
Unfortunately however, I only get the expected result importing these into Logic Express for the .aifc format which plays back at the expected speed with a low-pitched sound (but which doesn't display an uncompressed waveform). Importing the .aif .sd2 or .wav format files however results in the imported file being squeezed into a very short duration with a correspondingly undesirable very high pitch.
Is there some setting or magic incantation I need for reading in audio files to Logic Express without it getting squeezed?
    Thanks!
    --Roph
Yes. you need to ascend to level 5 before we give that secret incantation.
Really, you need to use a third party converter software, if you are going to use .au files.
Logic is happiest with .aiff, .wav files, but not much else.

  • M-Audio FastTrack USB recording isn't working?

M-Audio FastTrack USB recording- I installed it, and am trying to record sound through my keyboard. I can hear the sound through my headphones, and Audition recognizes  the device, ( I have the input set to Mono > Line In 1 FastTrack) but not the sound. The level bar won't move or anything. I have no clue why this isn't working and I've been messing with it for hours so I'd really appriciate some help!

Since this behavior usually indicates an interruption in the communication between Audition and the audio driver, I wonder if a "force driver reload" button would help. I'm not sure if the application can automatically sense this state since there appears to be enough of a data stream to make it appear as if things are ok.
Either way, it's something that needs investigation.

  • Very low signal strength when using DLINK 2640t with mac mini

i have a mac mini and i have been using it fine with a 2wire wireless modem. However i have just switched to a Dlink 2640t (54Mbps (802.11g) Wireless ADSL 2/2+ Router with Built-in Modem, 4-port 10/100Mbps Switch) and have been getting very low signal strengths on my mac mini, resulting in me not being able to surf the internet. The modem+ router is located in the next room. Does anyone know whether its the problem with the modem router or mac mini's airport wireless problems with the router itself. It worked perfectly fine with my previous 2wire wireless modem
    please help!

Did you reset the router after you updated router's firmware? Its always recommended to perform a reset after firmware upgrade on the router.

  • Orig iPhone call drops & very low signal w/ latest update since 3GS release

For those who have the original iPhone...have any of you been experiencing A LOT of dropped calls and also VERY LOW signal, like 1 & 2 bars? Not just in certain areas either but EVERYWHERE.
After the 3GS release an update of iPhone software was released some time later for the older phones. After I updated my original iPhone to the latest software release through iTunes after the 3GS release my original iPhone now has very poor signal and a lot of dropped calls. I've visited several AT&T stores for resolution. There insufficient answer, perform a network reset. I do this several times a day and it has no positive effect. I still drop calls, some calls don't connect and extremely poor signal.
I also noticed that the internet is working slower, both using the Edge network and the wireless in my own home.
Moreover, I've been researching the internet and finding a lot of other people experiencing the same issues. Mostly becuase the new 3G & 3GS are media hogs eating up the resources & capacity of AT&Ts network capabilities. I've even found that there are 2 class action lawsuits against Apple & AT&T about the poor network operation, tethering limitation and Apple not allowing Google to post an app on iTunes store.
I think the orginal iPhone updated to the latest software release from iTunes that is meant for 3G & 3GS is causing the poor performance to the original iPhone. I know dropped calls & poor signal is AT&T's responsibility but I feel that Apple has an obligation to it's customers to make sure all models, including the original iPhone, are up to par or above average performance when releasing new software, firmware & hardware. I think at this time Apple & AT&T have not completely verified and validated that the original iPhone still performs well with the 3G & 3GS updates.
If Apple or AT&T or both don't remedy my phone network issues to prevent dropped calls and improve the very poor signal then I will be selling the iPhone and switching to a Blackberry with Verizon service. I had Verizon before and ONLY dropped calls in 2 deadspots. I could bet my life I would drop a call driving through that zone, but so does T-Mobile & AT&T. Other than that, Verizon is without a doubt the best cellular service I have had.
Get with the program Apple & AT&T, make your customers happy and fix the network issues so original iPhone users won't leave AT&T to other services. Note, I was thinking of spending $300 and upgrading to the new 3GS but now I'm thinking of spending less and switching to a Blackberry with a more reliable cellular service, Verizon.
So, is Apple & AT&T going to lose another valuable customer?
    P.S.
Yes, I paid $600 for my 8GB original iPhone. Loved it til now. Geez, I'm ashamed to say Apply may have finally made a bad product that does not stand the test of time.
    Best Regards,
    Greg Light

I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry.

  • Recording level through audio interface is very low

I just purchased an M-Audio Fasttrack audio interface. when I plug my guitar in and turn up the recording level in Garageband the recording level is very, very low. Is there another way to increase recording level?

Yes this problem as well has left me very frustrated. If you find a solution please let me know. [email protected] you.

  • GB2 + M-Audio FastTrack USB + Bass

    Hi,
I have a problem whereby using the above gives me a very low input into GB2. To clarify:
    - Using GB2 with update in 10.9.3
    - Using Amercian Precsision Bass so decent output from guitar with a new cablewaves guitar cable
    - DI'd straight into FT USB
    - FT USB input setting set to highhest
    - Guitar/Line input set to guitar
    - OS X and GB2 input levels set to high
Seems strange as this should have a reasonably decent signal. My strat has a higher inout level.
Anyone had this problem? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Wayne

  • My retina macbook pro's audio has a very low voice.

I just have my retina macbook pro yesterday. I played a movie with Mplayer and some video on Youtube, but the output audio was very low. I compared with my macbook air(2011), with the same video and movie, use the same audio level, it is obviously the retina's sound is smaller than air. Is my audio system in retina have some problem? or it is normal?

So not sure how the 2014 MBP's trackpad works but on the ones I've seen the trackpad has to be exactly centered in the trackpad opening. When you service them you place shims around the outer edged before you tighten them in place. Meaning the springs that hold it in place.
If it wasn't centered correctly I could see how it would creak.

This is for the 13" late 2013. It's glued in place here so I could see how it would creak if it wasn't properly installer.

  • Setup help - low signal level in Logic

I'm getting low input signal levels when recording in Logic (-17db to about -10db, on average), and am hoping someone here can point out an obvious oversight on my part.
I'm recording mic'd guitars and vocals (one track at a time), with the mic(s)running into a Mackie 1402 mixer via XLR. Signals are strong and fine when I solo on the Mackie.
The signal runs out of the Mackie via the Alt 3-4 bus into the first and second 1/4" inputs on the back of a Motu 828 mkII, then into Logic.
Even if I drive the signal to near clipping on the Mackie, I get these low levels when recording in Logic. This is true whether I'm using a condenser mic with phantom power for vocals, or a dynamic mic on a guitar amp. I've also tried swithcing XLR mic cables.
    I'm running Logic Pro 7.2.3 and OS X (10.4.9) on a G5 2.5 DP.
Is my signal path in need of some tweaking, or perhaps it's a setting I'm overlooking on the Motu 828?
Any help greatly appreciated to get this rookie back on track!

The solo on the Mackie is probably louder, check to see if you have it AFL(after fader listen or PFL(pre fader level or "level set").
The signal runs out of the Mackie via the Alt 3-4 bus
into the first and second 1/4" inputs on the back of

The first thing to check is to see what kind of cables you are running into the Motu mkii.
    A. Unbalanced (ie "guitar-type" with two wires)
B.Balanced (ie "stereo-type" with three wires)
The second thing is to check what your inputs on your Motu are, there are two choices: +4dBu("pro") or -10dBV("consumer")
    Here's the catch:
You MUST MATCH the correct cables for the correct levels. If the Mackie is outputting -10dBV but your Motu is thinking it is +4 you see less level no matter how loud you make the Mackie outputs.
The Mackie can output AUTOMATICALLY either -10dBV or +4dBu depending on what cable is hooked up to it.

This is not where the problem lies.It lieas between the output of the Mackie and the input to Logic.

Yes,a setting somewhere in the Motu is not set correctly.Check above for how to do that.

    on track!

  • [SOLVED] Very low sound level after installing kernel26-2.6.30

I can't see this issue anywhere, so I'm sorry if I duplicate it here.
Since the upgrade to 2.6.30, the sound on my desktop system (VIA P4M890) is very low.  (I also have a Thinkpad with an Intel GM45 chipset, and this is working like a charm.)
I'm using a very simple ALSA configuration.  There is sound, but it is just almost inaudible.  I've set the highest possible level in alsamixer and when I turn up the volume to the maximum, I can hear sound.  But it is very weak and not very clear.  It's not related to hardware failure: rolling back to 2.6.29 fixes the problem.
Did anyone detect the same issue?

Alright mate, thanks.  Let me try that.
In fact, I didn't have that new channel, but I set the VIA DXS mixers to 100% (like described here: http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Via) and now everything is working.
    Great!

On Windows Play/Recording Controls the Mic +20dB boost option can be found behind the "Advanced" -button (below Mic level slider). On CT Surround Mixer it's behind the 'tiny red + sign', above the Microphone slider.
