M-Audio i-Control with Logic 7.2 vs. Behringer BCF2000 with Logic 6

I am just about to set up Logic Pro 6 after using Cubase CE for a while. I have also been investigating control surfaces. I heard from Apple and M-Audio that Logic Pro 7.2 now supports the i-Control control surface. I am debating the benefits of upgrading to 7.2 and getting the i-Control vs sticking with 6 and buying the BCF2000.
What recommendations do you have? Do the layouts of 7.2 and the i-Control enhance each other like Garage Band and the i-control do (I have never used Garage Band). How well do Logic and the BCF2000 integrate?
Thanks for any comments or recommendations.

Joe,
I've got the BCF2000, and got it for the primary reasons of tactile control via fader. Moterized is a cool feature. I've had it for over a year now and used it w/Logic 6.4.3, and now 7.1.1. Seeing that it lacks the LCD display (like the Logic or Mackie) which shows the parameters of the channel I bought this third pary app called LCXView that displays exactly like the LCD would, but i've since stopped using it because it started getting in the way to have Logic recognize the BCF on launch (once I jumped over to 7). The BCF needs to be booted in LC mode (Logic Control), as mine is by default.
The BCF doesn't have a shuttle control, which I would have liked. Eventually, I'll probably get a Mackie on the used market. Basically, the BCF get's the job done. Apple doesn't mention the unit in the manuals as supported, but by virtue of the fact that the BCF is in Logic Control emulation mode, it is supported.

Has anyone tried M-Audio ProjectMix IO with Logic?
I know M-Audio's drivers have had issues, but it looks interesting.

The Fishman Triple Play is simply the best hardware option to date for triggering external MIDI whether hardware sound modules or software instruments.
Having used many MIDI guitar converters since '89, I can say that the FTP tracking is very accurate and velocity dynamics are reasonably wide from soft to loud.
The Triple Play app works in Stand Alone mode in OSX 10.7.5 but not in 10.8.3.
In 10.8.3, you load the Fishman Triple Play plug-into into the I/O of a software instrument track.  Open the app and adjust sensitivity, mono vs poly, transposition down or up an  octave, etc.  Save your set ups as presets which can be scrolled through with the D-Pad control on the converter.
While the GR-55 is an amazing all-in-one solution in a small, light weight package (in relation to the bulk and weight of several actual guitars, basses, amps, fx, etc), it is a poor choice for triggering external sound sources.  Whereas I can play "bass" lines on the open E and A strings with my now obsolete Roland GI-20 and RMC piezo equipped guitar without any sense of latency, the GR-55 latency was simply intolerable.  Of course one could revert to the old strategy of playing parts an octave higher on the fret board to increase speed and accuracy of tracking. But what about playing "piano" with  fretted triads against the open E or A strings???
Think I'm full of hot air?  Skim through this: http://www.joness.com/gr300/MIDI_SPEED.htm
    I traded my GR-55 towards a JTV-59.
Once set up, you're gonna love the FTP.  As I mostly sequence MIDI in Logic, being wireless is incredibly convenient.

  • Can i control surface logic 9 with digi 002 mixer? on snow leopard 10.6.8

Hi I'm trying to connect my digi002 mixer to use it as a control surface with logic 9, is there anyway of doing this?
I have an RME Hammerfall DSP Multiface II, that I'm using as my main sound card, but would like to light it with the 002 and use the 002 converters as well, so that in total i get 16 channels I/O + if I could get control surface of logic with the 002 would be great.....
I heard about the Multi-Client CoreAudio Driver, but not 100% sure if and how it works to control surface logic with 002.
    Anyone???
    Help please....
    Thx...

I assume you have working installer discs? If so here's a suggestion:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • How do you get core audio to work with maverick. I'm using logic pro X

i'm having problem with core audio and maverick

It sounds as if you have altered the Tempo after recording the Audio ( but before selecting +Follow Tempo+ ).
This would make your Regions adapt from the old tempo to the new one, therefore changing their timing.
    Here's a bit more info:
Audio files recorded in Logic Pro can follow the project tempo—inclusive of tempo changes—set in the global tracks.
+Note: These audio files can also follow the first key signature set in the global tracks.+
As an example: If you record a bass solo at 100 bpm, you can change the project tempo to 120 bpm and the bass solo will automatically be played back at the new tempo.
The function works with all audio files that were recorded in, or bounced/exported from, Logic Pro.
The function only works in the parent project (the project the audio files were created in). If you drag a file recorded in a given project to another project with the Finder, the file can not follow the project tempo.
Bounced or exported files can only follow the project tempo if the “Add resulting files to Audio Bin” option was enabled in the Export or Bounce window—prior to the bounce or export.
Files copied between two projects retain the ability to follow the project tempo.
The project’s tempo information is used to tag the beats in the recording. The function works best if your audio files match the project tempo as precisely as possible. The longer your audio files are, the more RAM is required for this functionality to work properly.

i just talk to an apple store guy who told me magickpad was a pain in the *** and very tiring comparing mouse dealing with logic and other audio editors.... ?? so hes stupid  ? how can you explain this opposite opinion please ?
I don't know if that guy at the Apple store is stupid because frankly, I don't know him.
But seriously, if he can work better with a mouse then he should use one. I'm sure there are still some people out there who don't like to send email and type a letter with a typewriter then put that piece of paper into another piece of paper (envelope), carry that to the post office which puts those pieces of papers from one truck to another to finally get it to their destination. You get the idea.
The bigger issue is that people don't realize that they get accustomed to a device that is a a compromise to begin with, the mouse. Just think about it what it takes to scroll down in a window on your screen.
In perfect world: You would take your hand and scroll down the window (or tell the computer the command)
Instead, you take your hand, grab a thing (A) that has nothing to do with the window. Now you move that thing A and you see that it corresponds to another thing (B) on the screen, the cursor. No you have to move that second thing on to a third thing ( C), the scrollbar. And now, instead of moving down the scrollbar, you have to move it up in order to move the actual page down. How many un-intuitive (or counter-intuitive) steps does the brain have to learn and process? This is insane.
People are used to it and they don't question it as long as there is no better solution.
Instead of moving a thing that moves a thing that moves another thing. You just move THE thing. The original solution is touch the thing that you want to move. That's why kids use the iPad or iPhone with no problem. It is intuitive and you don't have to learn a compromise. The Trackpad is at least half way there.
Remember when Apple changed the direction of the scroll bar recently. Another great example, where people get p**** when something get easier but they want to keep their old way "moving something up in order to move something down".
I don't say that the Trackpad is perfect (it has other issues) and yes it requires some "un-learning" of old habits. It is still a compromise. My first computer was a Commodore64 about 25 years ago and I used mice all those years but I didn't' have a problem dropping that "thing" in a second.

  • Trouble with audio i/o with Mbox...

This may actually be a system-wide issue, not a Logic Pro issue, but it only affects me vis-a-vis Logic, so here we go...
I'm trying to use the (original) MBox as an Core Audio interface with Logic Studio. I installed the Core Audio drivers and the Mbox shows up in the drop-down menu of devices in both the Sound Control Panel in my System Prefs and in the Audio Preferences in Logic Studio. But there's no actual audio i/o happening. Having selected it as the device in prefs, and trying to playback output through the Mbox -- or record input through it, there's just nothing happening. Silence, and no response on the meters to input. Other audio interfaces work (i.e. a USB mic/headset; built-in mic and speakers, etc). The internal soundcard on the Mbox seems to be fine, as I can hear the input from the mic running into the Mbox in the headphones I have connected to the device.
I quit Logic and rebooted the Mbox. When I relaunched Logic, and the Digi CoreAudio Manager opened, I started getting a sort of morse code type of sound through my cans. Not feedback, more like digital beeps and such. But in any event still no input/output connecting with the Mac.
Two things to add to the mix: (1) while the device is visible in the System Prefs Sound Control Panel, it doesn't register any input or output on its little built in meters, either -- which makes me think this is s system-wide issue, not a Logic issue; (2) the first time (and only the first time) I selected the Mbox as the Core Audio device in the Logic Prefs, the meters in Logic Pro appeared to indicate there was a feedback loop (peaking on inputs and outputs), though there was no actual sound. I switched off the 48V button on the MBox which killed that problem, but since then, it won't register anything at all.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Windows Phone - Cannot bind custom user controll with listview item source property

It is Windows Phone 8.1 (runtime)
I have some problem of binding custom user controll with list of data. I'll make it simple as I can.
My problem is that somehow if I use DataBind {Binding Something} inside my custom controll it will not work.
I need to transfer binded data (string) to custom controll.
It is strange that if I do not use DataBind, it will work normally. Eg MyCustomControllParameter = "some string" (in my example 'BindingTextValue' property)
Does anyone Know how to bind custom user controll with inside ListView with DataTemplate.
    Assume this:
    XAML Test-Main page
    <Grid  Background="Black">        <ListView x:Name="TestList" Background="#FFEAEAEA">                    <ListView.ItemTemplate>                <DataTemplate>                    <Grid Background="#FF727272">                        <local:TextBoxS BindingTextValue="{Binding Tag, FallbackValue='aSource'}" local:TextBoxS>                    </Grid>                </DataTemplate>            </ListView.ItemTemplate>        </ListView>    </Grid>
    XAML Test-Main page c#
    public sealed partial class MainPage : Page    {        List<TTag> tags = new List<TTag>();        public MainPage()        {            this.InitializeComponent();            this.NavigationCacheMode = NavigationCacheMode.Required;        }        public class TTag        {            public string Tag { get; set; }        }        private void InitializeAppData()        {            TTag tag = new TTag() { Tag = "hello world" };            tags.Add(tag);            tags.Add(tag);            tags.Add(tag);            TestList.ItemsSource = tags;        }             protected override void OnNavigatedTo(NavigationEventArgs e)        {            InitializeAppData();        }           }
    User Control XAML:
      <UserControl    x:Class="CustomControllTest.TextBoxS"    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"    xmlns:local="using:CustomControllTest"    xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008"    xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006"    mc:Ignorable="d"    d:DesignHeight="300"    d:DesignWidth="400">      <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="#FF4F4F4F"   >        <RichTextBlock x:Name="MyTestBlock">        </RichTextBlock>    </Grid></UserControl>
    User Control c#
    public TextBoxS()       {            this.InitializeComponent();            LayoutRoot.DataContext = this;        }        public static readonly DependencyProperty BindingTextValueProperty = DependencyProperty.Register(                                         "BindingTextValue",                                         typeof(string),                                         typeof(TextBoxS),                                         new PropertyMetadata(default(string)));        public string BindingTextValue        {            get            {                return GetValue(BindingTextValueProperty) as string;            }            set            {                SetValue(BindingTextValueProperty, value);                //This method adds some custom logic into RichTextBlock, pointed correctly                SetupBox(value);            }        }
    Thanks for helping ;)

If you use a built-in control rather than your custom control, does binding work? You should verify that first.

  • PID control with an H bridge

    Hi everyone,
I have been working on a project with labview for the last few months now and I have reached a point where I am in need of some assistance.
Basically, this next part of my project requires me to drive a linear actuator to apply a force to the end of a shaft, with a load cell in between the actuator and shaft, providing me with the actual force applied.
I need to use a PID controller to maintain a constant specified weight onto the end of the shaft, this in itself should be simple but I have an issue with the way the actuator is driven.
The actuator is being driven via an H bridge that has 3 seperate inputs to drive the actuator:
    direction = logic high/low 5v high 0v low
    break= logic high/low 5v high 0v low
    Speed= Pulse width modulation
My plan was to use a basic PID controller to adjust the PWM going into the H-bridge by adjusting its duty cycle between 0.10 (fast) 0.90(slow) and then using basic comparison functions between the set point and process variable to control the logic to direction and break. So for example.....
I want it to apply 5kg onto the end of the shaft
my set point is 5 and the variable is 0 so labview applies a logic high to direction (to go forward) and logic low to break (to let it move) and the PWM is adjusted to zero in on the set point.
I cannot get this to work however and was wondering if there was a better way to do this?
I appreciate that this may seem unclear, so i hope I have explained it well enough!
    Many thanks
    HCook
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
Thank you for very much for your reply.
I really should have explained this better, but I only had a few minutes to post my code. I should also mention that Im teaching myself labview, so Im sure I could do this a lot better.
OK, so here is whats happening...
This is just a secttion of my code, as Im not allowed to upload the whole programme.
This section is meant to control the weight being applied onto the end of a shaft that is defined by the user.
By flicking between auto and manual the user can choose between the PID and comparison moving the actuator or themselves manually.
The two express vis that are outputting an analog voltage are to provide the logic to the h bridge.
To give me Proportional control, I have simply used a comparison function to look at the weight on bit i have requested (elsewhere in the programme and hence the local variable) and the actual weight signal from a loadcell being brought into labview from an anolog input. So for example, If i request 2kg then the comparison between the two signals then tells the h bridge to move the actuator to apply more or less wait depending on the signal.
I have got this bit working fine.
Now, the speed with which the actuator needs to move, must be continuosly adjusted to provide a precise adjustment to the weight and I wanted to do this by continuosly adjusting the duty cycle of the PWM through the PID. Thank you for pointing out the loop issue, preventing the PID from passing on the adjustment, I had not spotted this!
I will re build the code and condense it down into a smaller number of loops.
The WOB speed task, which is outputting the PWM to the h bridge keeps telling me that the specified resource is reserved and will not function after my inital run. Does this have anything to do with the PID not working ?
Also, when I run the programme in manual mode, where by I move the actuator manually and adjust the weight based on the load cell signal, I get an error when I adjust the duty cycle. It informs me that the PWM must complete a full cycle before the duty cycle can be adjusted. Now the rate at which im changing the duty cycle manually is no where near the same speed a PID may adjust it and therefore I can see myself having the same problem in auto mode.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Audio Unit Bridge overlapping Logic.

    Hi all,
Sylenth was previously working fine until I installed 9.1.8 update moments ago. My apology if my explaination is rather confusing but this is what I'm currently facing.
I'm on 64bit logic and trying to load Sylenth, this window pops up.
Sylenth eventually shows up after clicking it but logic is now being overlapped by the 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge application, restricting me to audition Sylenth with the Capslock keyboard. Notice that my top status bar (next to Apple Icon) has 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge as active window now? Disallowing me to play the Capslock keyboard.
So, I cannot play Capslock keyboard when I have Sylenth as active window and vice versa. Is there a way I could go around it ?
    Thanks a bunch in advance.

As far as I can tell, Sylenth is a 32-bit instrument, not a 64-bit instrument. If you're running Logic in 64-bit mode, the only way you can use Sylenth is via the 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge.
When I run a 32-bit plugin in Logic Pro in 64-bit mode, I can preview instruments with my MIDI keyboard controller, or with the Capslock keyboard in Logic. I don't have Sylenth, or Logic 9.1.8, or Mountain Lion (on purpose!), so I can't duplicate the condition you're reporting (assuming I've understood your post correctly). But with any 32-bit plugin I own and use via the 32-Bit Audio Unit Bridge in Logic Pro running in 64-bit mode, I can use either the MIDI keyboard controller or Logic's Capslock keyboard. I am not restricted to using only the Capslock keyboard, nor does the 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge render the Capslock keyboard non-functional. It works exactly as it should.
It might be that your problem is with Logic 9.1.8. It has known bugs with certain plugins. I was unable to get any of my EastWest Quantum Leap plugins to validate under Logic 9.1.8, and I had to revert to 9.1.7. (I'm running Snow Leopard v10.6.8. and 9.1.7 is extremely stable and reliable in that system.)
If you need to revert to Logic 9.1.7, here's how to do it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4551179?tstart=0

  • Manual Audio Level Controls! - Sony Alpha DSLRS (A65)

Dear Sony -I absolutely love your DSLRs. However, to use the camera as an acceptable tool for amateur/indie/professional film, manual audio level controls in video mode are a must-have. Equal Canon competitors all feature this simple leveling option for managing audio.Currently, the automatic gain control is the only option for audio recording capabilities on Sony Alpha DSLRS in video recording. While in theory OK, AGC leads to terrible problems such as unnecessarily high and distracting background noise/hiss. Filmmakers desire crisp, clear audio! For quality results using an external microhpone, manual audio levels are the only way for filmmakers to achieve decent in-camera audio to compete with Canon users. Many amateur and professional videographers are in desperate need of this function! Audio is often MORE important than the image quality of your film, although Sony seems to increasingly neglect its video DSLR users by not implementing this ability and falling short on video options (Auto-focus in Manual Mode, audio levels on HUD etc.).To keep my Sony A65 a viable option for video work - please see if anything can be done!  (Should be able to be added with a firmware update to all current and existing Alpha DSLRS) Thanks!!! - Love, a filmmaker who would desperately like to keep their A65 for professional video work! (Also from "Join The Inspiration")

Though a great idea, you also have to understand that the a65 isn't as film oriented camera like other cameras.
DSLR cameras with the audio controls are designed with film making in mind, thus they have that option.
Most DSLRs (at least, back in the days) was simply a camera to take photos. If you wanted to do film, you'd buy a dedicated film recorder for that. Having video capabilities in a DSLR was a bonus.
Nowadays, it's merging, bang for buck, reaching to a boarder audience, one size fits all, etc, and unfortunately, the a65 wasn't part of that 'nowadays' era.
The a99 and a77ii, if I remember correctly, has audio controls.
A lot of the newer Sony models (mirrorless) also have audio controls, that is, the ones that a targeted towards film making and not just great photos with the bonus of great video.
Also, I would presume that a lot of 'professional' videographers will either use external mics such as on a pole, a lapel mic, etc, to capture perfect audio, or if not, at least a shotgun/boom mic attached to the camera.
When doing such, there technically shouldn't be a lot of problems with the audio quality. Of course, if those external mics are still recorded into the camera, then yeah... but if they're recorded separately and slapped on during post processing... shouldn't be any problems...
If you're relying purely on the a65 and it's AGC, then there definitely will be shortcomings here and there unfortunately.
I recently filmed my niece-in-law's wedding. I didn't have any fancy mic setups (can't afford it at this stage), and this wasn't any sort of 'professional' work, more of just something for the family (free), but the audio came out excellent. Yes, it caught ambient noise (obviously), but I don't hear any cutoffs or badly pitched noises, or anything. The loud music and people cheering on and such all came through very clearly. Sure, it's no 'professional' bitrate or anything, but at 192kbps, it did the job.
Anyways, that was off topic, but all I'm saying is, you can't expect much from a photo taking centred camera which has been slapped on with nice video capabilities unfortunately. Also, due to the a65's age, I don't think Sony's bringing out anymore updates. My advice is either get an a77ii for it's awesome AF, or if full frame is a desire, then the a99 or a mirrorless (up to you). The a99 has a controllable focus range which is something I like, that way, if you're using autofocus (yeah... what 'professional' videographer would use autofocus aye?), you won't lose focus on subjects if something goes in front/behind it.Also, the little wheel at the front really helps in allowing you to make adjustments without disrupting video or causing too much movement in the camera. Right now, I am planning on getting a RX10ii. Though I'd love to get something from the mirrorless range, it's just way out of my budget (even the RX10ii is, so there's a lot of saving to do right now also...). Anyways, good luck with your videos.

  • MBPro 17 Intel Core 2 Duo Audio only works with the headphones?

MBPro 17 Intel Core 2 Duo Audio only works with the headphones?
There is a red light constantly emitting from the headphone socket?
I can not listen to sound unless headphones are plugged in - when taken out I get a red light and the volume controls kets seem locked?
    Please help!
    Julian

    Hi Kitty.
Seems to be quite a popular problem. In another post, I posted the following.
"The red light is the data signal that is transmitted if you plug in an Optical Audio device such as surround sound speakers. I had the same problem for a short while with my 17' MBP. Sound was working fine from my built in speakers but I plugged in some earphones to listen to something that I did not want the rest of the office to hear and after pulling the hearphones out, the optical signal (red light) was being transmitted. The switch Cessna is referring to is the switch that is triggered inside the port that tells OSX that earphones/optical audio device is plugged in and to shut down power to the built in speakers. When the device is un-plugged from that port, the switch should get triggered again and power up the built in speakers and disable the optical light signal. Perhaps there is the slightest defect on the earphones you are plugging in that are preventing it from triggering the switch when the earphones are un-plugged.
Try a different sent of earphones to maybe trigger the switch if you are uncomfortable with the paper clip solution."
That seemed to solve the problem for that user.

  • IPad 3/iOS7 for audio production control

I use an iPad 3 with up-to-date iOS7 for audio production control. It connects to a wi-fi network that is never connected to the internet.  I go through the process of canceling the “no internet” notice when connecting to the router and tapping ”use without internet” when (IF!) it appears. It usually takes a few attempts reconnecting to the router to get through the process.  Once connected, I do not experience any issues.
The wi-fi connection is dropped if the iPad goes to sleep during the show and I have to go through the whole process again -  losing control of the connected devices – until I manage to reconnect to the router.  Not good.
Is there a workaround?  Are there settings I’m not aware of?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Thanks for the reply.  I do turn sleep/lock off - sometimes I forget and am disconnected   A high percentage of the time I'm on battery roaming the venue mixing.
I'm hoping for some feedback about connecting to a network without internet.  It can take several tries to make it happen.  Hoping there is a setting somewhere that will make it happen more quickly and reliably.

Did you use this laptop with two monitors? Perhaps the dialog box is still on the other monitor, this sounds strange sorry, but it happened to me before. I'm used to have another monitor connected in college and then have some panels on one monitor, if I forget to restore to one monitor sometimes certain boxes seem to have disappeared.

  • Does the M-audio iControl work with the newest version of Garageband (2013)

I'm looking for a dedicated controller for garageband. It seems that the m-audio icontrol was the only one ever made and was released in 2005. I've read it worked with all versions of GB up to '11. Would this 8 year old controller work with the newest version of garageband (newest version as of october 2013)? Or are there any new dedicated controllers that are an option.

Haven't checked all the options, but yes, M-Audio iControl works with Garageband 10.0.1 and with Logic Pro X (10.0.4).
I am astounded that a) they stopped making it b) no-one has stepped in to offer a similar (or better) hardware solution - especially as GB is now free.
If you can get one, grab it!

  • As fast as I delete photos from Camera Roll, the space is eaten up - what is causing this?

My photo is fit to burst so I've been deleting a bunch of pictures which are already backed up elsewhere (and also in the icloud) However, as I'm going through and deleting hundreds of pictures, I see the freed up space only equivalent to about 200mb
