M-Audio Keystation 49e not recognized

I am trying to use an M-Audio Keystation 49e, USB. It does not come up on the USB bus as a connected device. The power light comes on so I know the USB connection is there. I also connected it to the keyboard of my old iMac and got an error that it was drawing too much power. What am I doing wrong?

I have the exact same problem. The M-Audio 49e will not work on Macs for some reason. I have tried another MIDI keyboard on my Mac and it worked fine. My 49e will light up also when connected, but it won't work with any program on Macs for some reason. It works fine on my PC.

  • M-Audio Keystation 49e not recognised

I am using an M-Audio keystation 49e with garage band and for some reason, I cant get it to be recognized as an input device. What am I doing wrong? The blue light is on but when I go to system profiler, I dont see it on the USB list. Help!!!

That's actually a good question. I have not yet, because I don't have another USB cable that fits into the back of the keyboard. However, I can't imagine that's the problem because, the computer still recognizes when the MIDI is plugged in and when it is not. Both in the Audio MIDI Setup and Garageband, it recognizes a MIDI is plugged in. I have not tried playing it through the keyboard though and I run the sound through some Bose speakers. I can hear other things coming out of the speakers (i.e. if I play some loops or something), so I'm not sure if that is the case). I just don't understand how the computer can recognize the MIDI, but not recognize me playing anything on the keyboard. Is it worth buying a new USB cable?

  • M-audio keystation 49e suddenly out of tune in logic 8

I've searched these forums and elsewhere on the net and haven't found a solution to my particular problem.
My M-Audio Keystation 49e keyboard controller (it's an old one, probably 8 years or so) is suddenly playing notes at about 31 cents flat in every softsynth that I've played it on today (EVP88, EXS24, Camel Alchemy, Dan Dean Bass). It's worked fine for years. I'm running Logic 8 under OS 10.6.7.
It does this no matter what octave setting I have it on. I haven't used any of the Advanced Functions of the keyboard, but just to be sure I followed the manual's instructions to reset everything (as best as I could anyway...it just said to press the Advanced Functions key and then tap the C#3 key to clear whatever settings I had, which were none). The pitch wheel is a springy one and is physically in the right spot - I saw in some discussions about making sure it's set to 64 but I'm not sure how to check that.
Any thoughts on this? I'm not sure if the problem is within the keyboard or within Logic and am not sure where to look next. In the meantime, I've pitched up the EVP88 by 31 cents and that at least gets the notes in tune, but I don't want to do that for every synth I play and then have to go back and change them or be confused by it later ha ha!
    Thanks for any help!

Not liking these new Apple forums. Just lost my latest posting....aargh! Wish I had copied what I had written before the error....
Basically, this link http://www.logic-users-group.com/forums/showthread.php?t=686 and this one https://discussions.apple.com/message/12935908?messageID=12935908 seemed to help. Looking in the Environment, I clicked something (not sure what) that put the synth back in tune. Then I went to Project Settings as described and checked the Pitch Bend Input Filter. Oddly, after doing that, the pitch bend rests at 53 instead of 64 and I'm back out of tune.
I'm guessing that it's time for a new controller. Sigh.

  • Can't get m-audio keystation 49e to work

Hi everyone i'm having a lot of trouble getting the keystation 49e to work with logic pro 9. When I plug the keyboard into my macbook I can only play sounds through the virtual keyboard (hitting caps lock), however logic recognizes the when move the volume slider and when I play a note on the virtual keyboard logic I am able to bend the pitch using the pitch bend wheel. I can not play sounds with the keys on the key station though. logic recognizes the volume slider along with the pitch bend and modulation wheel, but I when i press the keys on the keyboard nothing happens. Anyone have any solutions?
    Thanks

Have you already checked your preferences to insure your macbook is selected as your input device? Are you sure your keyboard isn't trying to play very high or very low octaves of where the instrument normally plays? Check the keyboard at higher and lower octave ranges.
I find that most problems I have with midi keyboards are solved by closing Logic and restarting the computer.

  • Use of M-Audio Keystation 49e

I can't seem to get the M-Audio Keystation to work. Under the System Profile, Hardware, USB, it appears that the system recognizes the keyboard because it is listed under USB Bus. However, tMIDI Setup is empty and it won't allow me to add the device. Garage Band doesn't recognize the keyboard. I've contacted M-Audio and they say it's an Apple problem. I've contacted Apple support and the individual who I spoke with said they couldn't help. Doesn't anyone have an idea on what the problem might be?

first, does yours even say that a new midi port is connected, or something like that
second ,there's no way that your keyboard needs an external power supply, heres ur problem, if this doesn't work for you, post back and i'll give you a different answer, when you power up garageband, and you see the first track selected (usually its the regualr grand piano, but if its not thats alright) just go to select new track, and when the menu pops up click on any of the instruments, and hopfully you can just play them w/ your keyboard from that menu, once you select one and its in your garageband, your good to go

  • The audio file is not recognized by Logic. Can't import audio files?

    Hi,
The audio files are on my desktop. Logic 9.1.1 will not recognize them and gives me this message when I try to drag and drop OR Import Audio File OR use Audio Bin.
As far as I know, I am using wave files (extension .wav). So what could be the problem. Here's a picture of how the files look on my desktop.
The regular silver and blue iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
The black iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
Importantly, the black iTunes (only 2 out of the 18 audio files) are the ones that actually import. Does it have something to do with the fact that it shows under "More Info > Audio Channels 1" vs. the silver and blue iTunes .wav files (which do NOT have this)?
Furthermore, here is the process I used to get the audio files in the first place. On my PC, I exported audio files from my Ableton Live project onto a thumbdrive. I copied the audio files from my thumbdrive to my Mac. Maybe this had something to do with it.
Also, as you can see, under Sharing and Permissions > there is only "read and write" for all names, so it's not a permissions thing.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.
+Can you play them as Preview (select in Finder, hit spacebar)?+ No. The black iTunes icons play with no sound and the silver and blue iTunes icons do not even come up in Preview at all.
+Will iTunes play them?+ Only the black iTunes files (2 out of the 18). When I click on a silver and blue icon'd file, it will not even open in iTunes.
why on the desktop? it was just a temporary thing. I was not able to pull them into my Audio Bin. I tried what you suggested. I put the files in the Audio Files folder of my project. When I go to open them from within Logic by Import Audio File, they are visible but greyed out. I don't use the desktop except for testing stuff like you do.
+How was the thumb drive formatted? FAT32 or other DOS-format, or Mac OS Extended (HFS)?
+the extension is not where apps look to recognize an audio file format, it is the header data. Some audio programs can read RAW audio files, but more about that after your reply to this one.+ It is formatted MS-DOS (FAT 32).
(*I wrote all this stuff above while I was working and waiting for the PC to write to my thumbdrive again*******finally I got everything to show up.
I loaded the files again from the thumbdrive. This time they were all in the black iTunes format, and I put them directly in the Audio Files folder like you suggested. After some doing everything works fine. Weird.
    Thanks!

  • IPod Audio Issues (headphones not recognized, volume bar stuck/stutters)

    I often get these issues:
    - the volume bar shakes or stutters when changing volume on screen, with side volume controls or headphone volume controls
    - the volume bar gets stuck at one part and always jumps back to that point
    - when plugging in headphones, sound plays on both speakers and headphones
Basically the way to fix it is to restart the iPod, but that is very annoying to do because these issues come up frequently. What should I do about this?

I already got it replaced before. The last one only had the problem with volume bar, not the audio jack.

  • MSI GT60 - 2OD - Audio problems, Laptop not recognizing audio jacks and speakers

I tried to redirect the sound from my TV to the laptop in order to use my bluetooth headset.
It worked, but after turning my tv off, I continued using the headset normally.
But when I turned off my headset, the speakers stopped working and the laptop doesnt recognize any áudio inputs.
I already unninstalled the drivers, even installed my Win 8 from scratch, but nothing seems to work.
Does anybody have an idea of what is going on, or how i can fix it?

Latest driver version, I downloaded through the MSI website.
This is the first time that something like this has happened, the line is isn't set as default.
And also, when I open the Realtek HD Audio Manager, all the jacks are grayed,
At least my bluetooh headset still works.

  • Problems with M-Audio Keystation 49e midi keyboard after 10.4.7 upgrade

I've noticed a problem with my midi keyboard and GB3 after this most recent OS upgrade. You start playing the keyboard using some instrument such as Grand Piano. After a while there is no sound coming out. You must turn off/on the keyboard, then it starts working again. Sometimes its not as easy, and it requires shutting down GB and restarting. This morning I had to actually reboot the machine before I could get any sound.
This is really a pain in the neck. My son is trying to practice his piano and keeps having to power cycle the keyboard every 5 minutes.
Any suggestions? This has happened before the OS upgrade, but it just seems to be happening more in the past few days.
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

To clarify my early post, I don't care for the feel of the controller, I own one as a back up, it sits around and always works perfect (plus it takes no drivers!) every time I plug it in. My friend has had one for a couple years as his main controller and recently it has started to give some ghost midi signals while recording (unintentional pitch and mod animations while recording) I was at another place recently where we had one that would not respond at all, 1 mac desktop, 1 powerbook and 1 dell laptop. All around I see this keyboard everywhere and it works fine for almost everyone on every computer, plus the one I own is perfect. But I have had some mixed results in my personal experiences with the device. I would be surprised if this device has developed an issue because of the mac os update, that sounds like a coincidence in my opinion because the device is "class compliant" and does not require drivers; but that is my opinion and a SWAG (the term SWAG is property of hangtime and borrowed, I hope HT takes no offense)

  • Audio jack not recognizing head phones

Just bought a new satellite, model C55-B5200. Long story short, the audio jack is not recognizing when headphones are plugged into it.
I have checked to make sure the speakers are enabled; they work fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled the realtek driver from the toshiba model page (2014-04-07 | Version: 6.0.1.7195 ) and am at a loss as where to go next.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

When you run the Windows Sound applet (enter 'sound' from the Start screen and select 'Settings') does the 'Playback' tab show any indication of headphones?
If you can select a Headphones device from the Playback tab, click the Properties button and check to make sure 'Device usage' is set to 'Use this device (enable)'.

  • Keystation 49e toasted after installing Jam Pack

I have an M-audio Keystation 49e that I have used mostly for music composition using my iBook and a nice shareware program, Melody Assistant. Lately my son has been using the keyboard a lot for composition on an iMac using GargageBand. He has been desperate for a JamPack to get better souunds, so I got him the Orchestral JamPack for his Birthday yesterday. The sounds are indeed excellent. However, a little while (~30 min) after installing the JamPack, the keyboard stopped working, first intermittently, like when changing an instrument, then completely. No sound, no indicator lights, nothing getting recorded. Thinking it was a driver problem, I installed the latest M-audio driver I could find (3.1) but no dice. Hoping to debug the issue, I plugged the keyboard into my iBook and now it doesn't work there either! When I try to use Melody Assistant, a weird error message comes up saying "An OS X midi driver has been recognized but gives do information about output destination." I tried our other iMac (without the new JamPack installed), and it doesn't work there either. Looking at the USB section under "About this Mac", the keyboard is being recognized correctly, but it does not seem to be able to send notes to any program on any of our macs. It seems like installing the JamPack has somehow broken the keyboard, but I have no idea how this could be or what to do about it. Any suggestions appreciated!
Intel imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The M-Audio driver is irrelevant: it is used to recognize extra controls on the more advanced keyboards. The 49e does not require a driver.
Since the keyboard doesn't work on another computer either it seems unlikely that the Jam Pack has got anything to do with it. I would suspect a hardware fault in the keyboard or the lead. Try replacing the USB lead first, then if that doesn't help you may need to see if you can get a repair.

  • MIDI interface not recognized after Mavericks install

    Hi,
I was using a Midisport UNO with OSX 10.6, connecting my keyboard with the Mac Pro and using programs such as Live and Garageband. After the Mavericks install, I have a bunch of obsoleted hardware. I understand that Midisport have not come up with a driver to support Mavericks just yet. But that is not my issue.
Today, I purchased a new MIDI interface, one that is class compliant and so requires no driver software. According to everything that I have read, from external literature to the interface's literature, the device should work just fine. But my Mac Pro doesn't recognize the device in the Audio and MIDI Setup utility. In fact, it recognizes the Midisport UNO just fine but that device is greyed out and I guess this means there is no correct driver.
I have noticed that the Mac Pro seems to turn off ports when supplying power to USB devices. Sometimes, the front USB ports will not connect my iPhone to iTunes, for example. When I restart, the power sometimes returns. So is this a power issue or does my connectivity problem lie with the MIDI interface?
    Thank you

I just purchased a new iMac running Mavericks. I have an M-Audio Keystation 49e, I have the same issue. It won't work or be recognized in adui/midi setup. It is there, just greyed out. I have searched everywhere for a fix. All you find is delete this, delete that. It worked fine on Mountain Lion, now it is useless to me. I have tried running it through a hub, doesn't fix the issue. I use power as opposed to just the USB, doesn't fix the issue. Can someone please point us in the right direction so we don't have to go spend more money on a midi keyboard because of Mavericks?

  • LE8 not recognizing my Fantom x6 through usb

So, I have installed the necessary drivers and put my fantom x6 to midi mode, but when I plug in through usb, logic does not recognize it.
I want to be able to play logic's software instruments from my fantom (using it as a midi controller). I thought this was possible through usb. Is it the fantom?
I previously had a an m-audio keystation 49e that I plugged in and worked right away, but I'm very confused and frustrated with this fantom setup (or lack thereof).
Also, follow up question: Could someone explain what multi-channel instrument means? What qualifies as one, what would be a single channel instrument? I'm new to some of the lingo.

I couldn't find any info on the hub, but it's this one:
    http://www.meritline.com/usb-2-0-f-w-combo-hub.html
Is there any easy way to plug my firewire external hd into my time capsule?
