  • Help with midi/usb interface and Logic 8

    Hi there,
    So here is the 'goal'
I have a SoftStep (MIDI USB interface) running into Logic 8 or Mainstage - my ideal scenario would be to pre-load various loops, clicks and Ambient Pads into Logic - these are usually in MP3 format.
Ideally, I would then be able to assign various buttons on the MIDI footpedal to start, stop and cycle through the various files.
Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about setting this up?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    T

he driver is indeed a universal version.
    Cool.
I doubt it's the MIDI interface simply because when I used it to connect a Roland Juno-D to the computer, it worked perfectly fine.
    Ok, cool. Rules that out
Notes get ''stuck'' on the visual keyboard, some notes are still considered 'pressed' until I press them again. There aren't many but it's worth noting.
Is it always the same notes? For instance, if C3 will never give a note off, it might indicate a problem with the actual keyboard mechanism in the piano.
ANYWAYS, when I've placed a monitor inside the environment at the places you mentioned, I can indeed see those odd low notes.
So it seems like the piano is sending low notes as you play the keyboard...
So I see this is a pretty solid visualize representation of what I thought was wrong. Note the C-2 is lower than I can even reach on my standard sized piano (my lowest note is A-1).
It certainly seems as though the piano is sending spurious MIDI data, as I mentioned, it might be the actual physical keyboard mechanism is mistriggering. From the things you've tried, it certainly sems to be the actual piano that's playing up, and not the MIDI interface or computer.
At this stage, I'd probably try playing around with the piano's MIDI settings, trying a reset procedure if it has one. It might be something as simple as dirt and crud in the keyboard causing mistriggering.
While you could use the environment to filter out those C-2 notes, it's not really going to help if the piano is missing note offs and triggering wrong notes. It might, as you initially suspected, be knackered...

  • Capture Audio through USB interface - How to adjust input level?

My USB turntable offers Line In and USB in order to connect it to my iMac. I would prefer USB but there is no way to adjust the input level. This only seems to be possible with Line In. Is this correct or is there anything I should know?

The only way to change levels with an A/D audio interface is BEFORE the analog/digital conversion.
If your turntable outputs USB (a digital connection), then the A/D stage is within the turntable, and any level adjustment will have taken place within there (I'm betting there's a level adjustment trimpot somewhere inside if you can't see any knobs from the outside).
This shouldn't be a problem, though, because the maximum levels a vinyl LP can produce are limited by groove spacing and the sheer amount of vibration the needle can take before jumping out of the groove. The turntable will have been adjusted for this at the factory (I'd assume), so you can safely use the USB out - the turntable's A/D stage is bound to sound better than the $1.50 A/D-D/A chip built into the computer.

  • How do I use GarageBand as a amp/speaker to listen to my Electronic Drum set? I have a MIDI-USB cord already but I can't figure out how to listen to my set through the software using my computer speakers?

How do I use GarageBand as a amp/speaker to listen to my Electronic Drum set? I have a MIDI-USB cord already but I can't figure out how to listen to my set through the software using my computer speakers?

If you want to listen to the sounds of your drum set, you should use an audio cable and connect it to the computer's line-in, then create a real instrument track.
If you use a Midi/USB interface, you'll have to create a software instrument track and select one of GB's drumsets as the instrument. Hopefully your drumset's midi notes are mapped to the right sounds in GB.

  • Can't hear sound with M-Audio MobilePre USB driver in Logic 7.2

Hi. I've installed an M-Audio MobilePre USB interface to hook up a nova mic and i've also hooked up an oxygen eight midi keyboard. Can't get any sound from Logic when i select M-Audio MobilePre USB as my driver, and can't get Logic to recognize my midi keyboard. I have downloaded the latest M-Audio MobilePre USB update off the web, and still nothing. I'm new at all of this. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering did you install the drivers and after that plugin the usb devices or did you leave them plugged in during install?
What happens when you unplug the midi interface and put it back in? Is it recognized by Logic by putting up a dialog that something has changed?

  • Ensoniq sq1 midi to usb interface suggestions/what will work?

looking for suggestions for how to best hook up an ensoniq sq1 (midi out) to my ibook g4 to use the sq1 as a midi keyboard in garageband 3 - with or without the ensoniq sounds.
i read up on various simple cable adapters but it looks like some cables work with particular keyboards and not with others. also i don't really understand what the latency issues are - should i be able to use the sq1 just like i use the m-audio o2 or will there be some glitches because the sq1 is an older midi keyboard from the early 90's?
would greatly appreciate any advice especially if someone has actually used their sq1 with garageband 3

how to best hook up an ensoniq sq1 (midi out) to my ibook g4
MIDI is a standard, the age shouldn't matter. A popular interface I've seen posted about here is the M-AUDIO USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface
with or without the ensoniq sounds.
To record sound you need an audio interface, MIDI doesn't carry sound.
If you want an interface that does Audio then probably the cheapest choice would be a combination of the interface above for MIDI and this Griffin USB Audio Interface for the ensoniq's sounds.
However for a few dollars more I would suggest this TASCAM USB Audio/MIDI Interface which will handle both.

  • Audio/midi interface for macbook pro with OSX 10.7.4?

I have been running Sibelius and GarageBand with my keyboard and sometimes vocals in my  imac with OSX 10.6 via an old Tascam US-122 interface. I now have a new MacBook Pro with OSX 10.7.4, and am set up to run Sibelius and Logic Pro 9, but I can't seem to find a compatible audio/midi interface. There is plenty of discussion on M-Audio's site, but as of May '12, still incompatible. Ideas? Thanks. John

Yeah, the new MacBooks are USB3 i.e. you have to be careful which interface you use as some of them don't work yet.
Personally I have a NI Tracktor control 2 for live work ( works with USB 3 but no midi ) and a Focusrite Saffire for recording. My Saffire however is Firewire.
I do know that the Focusrite Saffire 6 is now working on USB 3 though. http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/saffire-6-usb  + it works with Mountain Lion.
Sadly though it's still a backward compatible USB 2 inteface, but... if you're only recording Guitar and vox, this really won't matter to be honest.
Also I'd recommend Focusrite over M-Audio gear any day of the week.

  • Audio/MIDI Interface to replace a Tascam US-122L?

    Hi guys,
I bought a Tascam US-122L off ebay last week to replace an Asio Alesis iO2, with the intention of using it for recording, multi-tracking and most importantly gigging (MIDI keyboard thru Mainstage) at a festival next week.
I had the usual problems that people have with the US-122L on OSX Lion, and have managed to get it working for audio but not MIDI, effectively rendering it useless for the biggest thing I need it for.
As a result, I have decided I need to find another interface as I really don't have time to spend all next week trying all the different fixes that may or may not work.
So, can anyone recommend an interface which:
    - is fully compatible with OSX Lion, and Logic and Mainstage 2.
    - has both audio & MIDI capability-for example the M-Audio Fast Track doesn't have a MIDI port, so it would be of no use to me.
    - is USB powered, not mains
    - is of decent quality for audio
    - is portable- not much bigger than the tascam at the most, preferably smaller
I need to be able to pick one up second hand (online) for preferably less than £80, if possible. I'll be using it on a late-2011 MacBook Pro and have a powered USB hub.
    Thanks,
    Alex

works fine here on 10.4.8 and a 15" 1.5Ghz G4 powerbook and an old us-122
Just for the record: When i first open the aggregate device editor no devices show up.
They do when i hit the "+" next to "add and remove aggregate.."

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB interface not compatible with Logic Pro X and Yosemite

    Hello All!
I've been trying to simply record some guitar and vocal tracks onto the latest version of Logic Pro X. It worked before I downloaded the update of Yosemite, however now, I can't find a solution to my problem. I've tried everything! Installed new drivers onto the M-Audio and even tried to search for a later update of Yosemite. I have read a few things online about how Yosemite doesn't accept 3rd party drivers. So any USB plugged in to the macbook/mac that isn't mac based it doesn't accept.
Please can someone help me solve his issue!
    Thankyou!
    Felix

I know many, many of us who are running things just fine.
I have to be really honest with you Ben and say... Where are you getting that idea from because it simply isn't so.....
I have a quite large client list of Logic users from all over the world... and of those that have attempted to use Logic Pro X and Yosemite together... over 80% have had to revert back to a previous configuration because of performance and/or stability related issues...
I personally, have on test here at the studios...  7 different Macs  ranging from 2010 Mac Mini i7 Servers to 2011 32GB 3.4Ghz iMacs.. to a maxed out 2013 i7 MBP to a top of the line 2014 Mac Pro and all have demonstrated issues regarding performance and stability with LPX and 10.10.x using a variety of different Audio/Midi interfaces, all of which have supposedly 10.10 compatible drivers... and all of which have no such issues running LPX under Mavericks...
Just a quick scan across the various forums.. indicates that very few people are successfully running LPX under Yosemite without performance problems.... so that's why I am asking where you are seeing 'many many people" because I am just not seeing that myself...
    Cheers..

  • Audio/midi interface, FW800 enclosure, nearfield monitors for MacBook Pro?

I'm running Logic 9 on my MacBook Pro, having switched over completely to a laptop based solution from my previous Mac Pro.
My previous audio/midi interface was a Digidesign FW400 MBox, but I want to switch to a USB audio/midi interface plus an external FW800 enclosure as my recording drive.
I am also looking to replace my aging Roland nearfield monitors with something smaller. I mostly run soft synths and plug-ins (I have an old UAD-2 PCI and am trying to crossgrade to the ExpressCard solution too).
    And I'm running Snow Leopard.
    S0 my questions are these:
    1) What would be a good USB2 audio/midi interface. I only need 1 x 1 for the midi (but 2 x 2 would be nice), plus XLR and 1/4 audio ins and both analog and digital outs. Decent Mac drivers a must!
    2) Any recommendations for very small but decent quality nearfield monitors? I like the Genelec's, but for whatever reason they only appear to have XLR ins. SPDIF or 1/4 analog ins would be cool -- anything compatible with 1) above.
    3) What is a good recommendation for a FW800 enclosure? Obviously looking for something quiet. My only audio in would be vocals, and they'd be recorded in the same room as the drives. There are some fanless options out there, but upon enquiry I've been advised I'd have to shut them down every four hours or so. I do have an old FW800 OWC twin drive enclosure, but despite the 'whisper quiet' claims, that thing sounds like a taxiing Learjet.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or recommendations!

'Perfect' rather depends on what you want to do with it - microphone input? Level meter? Just a simple A-D converter? digital inputs?
I've used an earlier version of this device for some years with no problems (no MIDI though):

Other interfaces by Roland: http://www.rolandus.com/products/productlist.php?ParentId=104 - Edirol (taken over by roland) used to make MIDI interfaces as well but Roland don't seem to.

  • Garage Band : M Audio Duo USB Midi... signal in yes, audio out no

Dug my M Audio Duo USB Midi out of the closet and trying to lay some tracks in Garage Band, but problems. I could use a hand. When attempting to record...
    - OK: Garage Band recognizes the device and I'm able to 'seemingly' record audio (from external mic via midi device)
    - NOT OK: I'm not able to 'monitor' via line out through Mac - headphones plugged into Mac (line out through midi is okay, but only picks up native signals, not tracks from Garage Band)
    - NOT OK: Also, replaying the track doesn't produce ANY sound (despite the track showing a signal)
Any ideas? Is M Audio Duo compatible - it's pretty old piece of hardware.
    Cheers!

First you are not using MIDI you are recording Audio that has been digitized.
If you can't hear the playback through the interface make sure you choose the interface as your output device in garageband preferences and you have the mix knob on the interface set to the playback/return side.
I just looked at the interface and it doesn't seem to have any mix knob try toggling the stand alone mode button.

  • I have three Blue Yeti USB Microphones, and when I try to create an aggregate device in Audio MIDI on my MBP it lets me select two microphones but not the third. I need all three for a podcast, any solutions?

I have three Blue Yeti USB Microphones, and when I try to create an aggregate device in Audio MIDI on my MBP it lets me select two microphones but not the third. At first I thought maybe the third microphone was just defected or something but I tested the mic individually and it works fine. It'll let me use two Blue Yeti's and another microphone but not three Yeti's at once.
