M-Audio MobilePre USB Popping

Hi
I've read some of the posts here and elsewhere and cannot find a solution.
I have a brand new MacBook Pro, all maxed out ( not Retina Display ). My previous (and dead) 17" MacBook Pro 2007 model didn't have this problem. My speakers randomly pop and quite often when new windows or apps open or close. I've tried all sorts of supposed solutions with latency settings and cannot fix this.
Could this be due to USB 3? My old MBP had USB 1 and USB 2.
If this is true, I don't really want to spend more money looking for another interface when this one worked great for years.

  • Can't hear sound with M-Audio MobilePre USB driver in Logic 7.2

Hi. I've installed an M-Audio MobilePre USB interface to hook up a nova mic and i've also hooked up an oxygen eight midi keyboard. Can't get any sound from Logic when i select M-Audio MobilePre USB as my driver, and can't get Logic to recognize my midi keyboard. I have downloaded the latest M-Audio MobilePre USB update off the web, and still nothing. I'm new at all of this. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering did you install the drivers and after that plugin the usb devices or did you leave them plugged in during install?
What happens when you unplug the midi interface and put it back in? Is it recognized by Logic by putting up a dialog that something has changed?

  • No audio selection after loading Driver for M-Audio MobilePre USB

I recently downloaded the latest Driver for my M-Audio MobilePre USB on my Mac Pro and the audio input out put selection in the system preferences are not showing up. However it does show it listed in "Other" in system preverences, but only the volume control.
How do I get it the input and output selection to work?

I tried calling them but they said you need to have a service number, when you registered, which I got mine about 9 or so years ago and dont remember any numbers!
You need to purchase a number to talk to service, its a bunch of c#@@p.

  • Home Recording w/ AT3035 & M-Audio Mobilepre USB

    Hi All-
I am looking for a good way to get sound from my mic (Audio Technica AT3035) into my iBook (G3, OS X.3.9, 900MHz, 256 MB RAM).
A friend recommended the M-Audio Mobilepre USB, but I've read about people having problems w/ condenser mics.
I realize ideally I would get a new computer and an Mbox, but that's not an option. I'm a grad student, and funds are very limited. Even the Mobilepre is stretching it.
    Any suggestions/comments?
    Thanks,
    Wes.
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Wes: I purchased a Behringer mic200, which is a low priced tube preamp with +48v phantom power for a condenser mic. I have been very happy with the results and features. I know that A.R.T. also makes a good one. Only problem for you is that these preamps are powered via a wall wart. Set up is via the audio input jack as opposed to usb.

  • M-Audio MobilePre USB on new iMac

    Hi All
Well, I ordered my 20" iMac on the 25th of August, and it wasn't suppose to ship till tomorrow. And today, I found out I got a nice free upgrade to the new Core 2 Duo 20" iMac, which really made me happy Looks like I'll be getting one of the first BTO Core 2 Duo iMacs, which is really awesome
Anyway, my question to you all is about the M-Audio MobilePre USB and if any of you got it working on the Intel iMacs running 10.4.7. Last I checked, they only had Intel and PPC drivers for upto 10.4.6. My Powerbook is running 10.3.9 so I can't test to see if it would work with the latest OS (plus, the power adapter had a melt down, so I can't even use it at the moment).
    Thanks,

    Hi phjo,
Thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to wait and see when my new iMac arrives.
By the way, besides a newer and faster processor, is there any other major difference between the old 20" iMac and the new Core 2 Duo one?

  • What do you think about M-Audio MobilePre USB?

I need to buy an audio interface with my mac, but I don't really know what to buy. The MobilePre USB seemed to be okay for my budget, but is there any latency problems since the hardware is USB connected?
What are your other suggestions for an audio interface that works well (Edirol, M-audio, others???)? I don't need more than two simutaneous audio inputs.
    Thanks again!

I have the MobilePre and I'm pleased with it. The latency is not really an issue for me. It's low enough that when I record direct with my bass, I don't notice it at all. If you use the hardware monitoring headphone jack, be sure to turn off software monitoring, or you will notice a very brief echo/reverb sound due to the latency. I don't use the hardware or software monitor when recording guitar, and I either plug the amp's line out into the preamp or mic it. For vocals I just turn off my monitors (or you could turn off software monitoring in Logic) and plug in headphones to the zero-latency jack. Sometimes I will turn off hardware monitoring and add some reverb to the vocal track while recording, and the software monitoring works just fine too... I don't notice the latency.
One nice feature is you can plug in two mics, and two instruments and record them all at once, but you still only have two channels and can't separate them into four signals. That means you need to adjust your instrument volume and the preamp gain before recording since you can't adjust the mix later.
But I do have my complaints with the MobilePre! The biggest annoyance is that after a while the device will make bizarre noises that get worse and you must reconnect the device. This happens after a few weeks maybe. But what's more annoying is sometimes after I reconnect the device my iBook will hang for several minutes before recognizing the device. On one occasion it caused a kernel panic and I had to reboot! I really hate this, since I take my iBook to work every day and have to reconnect when I get home. Plugging the device in while the iBook is still sleeping, then opening the case seems to work better.
Another thing to beware of is the preamps aren't the best quality (obviously, for $150!). When I turn them up past 3/4 they introduce noticable noise and at night they pick up some weirdo radio station. I rarely need to set them past 1/2 though (which is low enough that I can't hear the radio station interference) and can boost the signal in Logic if it's necesarry.
Overall, the MobilePre was so cheap the small problems weren't enough for me to say I regret buying one. I haven't heard anyone else have the same problem with reconnecting the device so I can't say you'll have the same problem. I've had mine a year and I'm looking to get a Firebox soon, since I have started to outgrow my MobilePre. But it has served me well.

  • Trying to record using M-Audio MobilePre USB- Signal but no sound

I'm trying to record an acoustic guitar using the M-Audio MobilePre. GarageBand is picking up the signal while I'm recording, but when I go to play it back, I'm unable to hear any sound. What am I doing wrong?

  • M-Audio MobilePre USB Drivers settings with G4 PB 1.33

Can anyone tell me the optimum driver settings for play and record on my PB G4 1.33GHZ 768MB RAM
Currently getting intermittent 'cracks' with 4 audio and 4 Instrument channels with not a lot of plug-ins. CPU AUDIO reading 80% at 128 I/O buffer, larger disk buffer unchecked.Thought it was 'static' but no!
    Driving me mad!!!
Will a Firewire I/O improve things, if so what?
    Powerbook 12 1.33GHZ Mac OS X (10.4.8) 768MB RAM

Hi, I'm new to logic and the forum but with a similar powerbook I wanted to see how far I could push it without having problems.
With 28 audio tracks and 3 instruments with maybe 8 reverbs, compression, flanger and eq while playing an additional audio instrument my CPU AUDIO meter never goes above 60-70%. The I/O meter peaks every so often but I don't notice any ill effects.
I've set the I/O buffer from 0-1024 and larger disk buffer checked with not much of a difference. The only thing that affected anything was having cpu performance set to automatic in the system preferences/energy settings.
When you say "cracks" do you mean latency while recording a guitar, etc.? I'm really curious to find out because I'm shopping for an interface to record guitar with amp modeling and have been told firewire's the way to go. The TC Electronics KONNECT 24D comes highly recommended because it has onboard DSP and Hardware monitoring which does'nt use CPU power.

  • Using 2 M-Audio Mobilepre's

Hi. I want to record more than two mics at once, so I bought a second M-Audio Mobilepre USB, and I was hoping to make an aggregate audio device with the two of them. Unfortunately, my computer only doesn't recognize them as two separate devices, and I can't use them simultaneously. Any suggestions?

Oh, but there are two listed in the system profiler. The audio programs just recognize them as one, presumably because they're identical. Can I label one differently or something?

  • Mobilepre USB and GarageBand

I have been using m-audio's mobilepre usb interface with my intel I-mac for sometime without any problems, but since my update to Leopard I'm having problems. I have an M-audio Nove mic using phantom power with the mobilepre hooked to the system, but when I try to record I get pops and static and dropping out. I have updated the drivers, but to no avail. It seems as if something is interfering with the system. It will start to record coreectly, but then it goes haywire. If anyone is or has had this problem please help.

  • Can MacBook Pro output digital audio via usb?

I'd like to output digital audio via usb. Can it be done from iTunes? This would allow me to go directly to my dac and then to my preamp.
    Thanks.

Russell, there are quite a variety of devices that accept digital audio over USB from any mac with a USB port - see http://www.trendsaudio.com/EN/Product/USBAudiodesc.htm for one example.
Try a google on MAC USB Audio OUTPUT any you should pop up some useful options.
    Cheers

  • Latency and the M-Audio mobilpre USB

I know its like an overworked subject but I have searched and gotten no real answer.
small but realy annoying amount of latency makes doing overdubs and such a real confusing thing. (aka-beotch).
playback always lagging just a little behind new input(mic or instr).
I have an M-Audio mobilpre USB and am having unacceptable latency probs.
everything as suggested has been done.
    GB-Mobilepre-up to latest rev-driver etc...
last try was all monitors off-only 1 track-optimized buffer for speed.
    I have a 1.2gig pros-1.62gig ram on a g4.
could it be that its just the fact of USB as opposed to firewire?
    any guesses?
    thanx
    cheers,

"be you USB or be you fire wire"
I am using a simple setup:
Small unpowered mixer connected to my iBook via iMic. (USB 2 connection)
For MIDI: I have a Keystation 49e (direct USB) and a Yamaha PSR 520 connected via MIDIMAN usb 1x1.
I do not plug my headphones into the iMic because the latency was noticeable. I only use the iMic for input. I plug the headphones into my headphone jack and turn on monitoring in each track I am recording live. The latency is barely, barely noticeable.
You have an even better option via zero latency monitoring. If you can't get past the latency then you will have to monitor using the Mobile Pre. See your manual for details.
I believe my performance (including latency time) has improved since running the sessions from my firewire external drive. My drive is a Lacie 160GB, 7200rpm, 8M cache firewire drive. In addition to freeing up memory on the hardrive on my iBook, the faster spinning drive seems to boost my performance as well.
In a recent session a bass guitarist noticed annoying latency. I realized I had a cpu intensive plugin enabled. Turning the effect off removed the latency problem.
While running Garageband make sure no other tasks are running, such as indexing. File vault is also a performance killer and I finally turned it off.

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet.  Are you still using the same wireless router.  The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace.  For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio.   I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.
