M-Audio ProjectMix I/O compatibility

Does anyone know if M-Audio's new control surface/interface will work with FCP5 and STP, or if Apple is in the process of qualifying?
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProjectMixIO-main.html
Although FCP5 and STP are not listed as being compatible (Logic is), the ProjectMix I/O is a Mackie Control Protocol device, so should work. Tech support at M-Audio isn't sure, and apparently hasn't tested yet with FCP5.
...Tom

I haven't checked back with M-Audio on this for awhile, but will do so after Thanksgiving.
If you're getting good results with FCP5, that's the info I was looking for. The response you got from M-Audio was similar to what they told me last month. I don't know why STP isn't working 100%, but it is version 1 software, so only some of the basics may be implemented regarding the Mackie Control Protocol.
It's almost like M-Audio doesn't quite get it that FCP5 being MCP-compliant is very good for their sales of the ProjectMix I/O.
In the meantime, thanks again for your feedback that the ProjectMix does work with FCP5. It's also a terrific match to the AJA I/O.

  • Updated to Mountain Lion and now my M-Audio ProjectMix or Mbox are not being recognized?

I do music production and my M-audio ProjectMix is a Firewire audio interface and Mbox Mini 2 don't work anymore? They're not even recognized within System Preferences.

Check the manfacturers website for updated software.

  • Has anyone tried M-Audio ProjectMix IO with Logic?

Has anyone tried M-Audio ProjectMix IO with Logic?
I know M-Audio's drivers have had issues, but it looks interesting.

The Fishman Triple Play is simply the best hardware option to date for triggering external MIDI whether hardware sound modules or software instruments.
Having used many MIDI guitar converters since '89, I can say that the FTP tracking is very accurate and velocity dynamics are reasonably wide from soft to loud.
The Triple Play app works in Stand Alone mode in OSX 10.7.5 but not in 10.8.3.
In 10.8.3, you load the Fishman Triple Play plug-into into the I/O of a software instrument track.  Open the app and adjust sensitivity, mono vs poly, transposition down or up an  octave, etc.  Save your set ups as presets which can be scrolled through with the D-Pad control on the converter.
While the GR-55 is an amazing all-in-one solution in a small, light weight package (in relation to the bulk and weight of several actual guitars, basses, amps, fx, etc), it is a poor choice for triggering external sound sources.  Whereas I can play "bass" lines on the open E and A strings with my now obsolete Roland GI-20 and RMC piezo equipped guitar without any sense of latency, the GR-55 latency was simply intolerable.  Of course one could revert to the old strategy of playing parts an octave higher on the fret board to increase speed and accuracy of tracking. But what about playing "piano" with  fretted triads against the open E or A strings???
Think I'm full of hot air?  Skim through this: http://www.joness.com/gr300/MIDI_SPEED.htm
    I traded my GR-55 towards a JTV-59.
Once set up, you're gonna love the FTP.  As I mostly sequence MIDI in Logic, being wireless is incredibly convenient.

  • Voiceover doesn't recognize M-Audio Projectmix

I've tried everything I can think of, but I can't get voiceover to play nice with my M-Audio Projectmix interface. VO sees the input, and allows me to select it, but I get no levels and nothing records. Garageband works fine with the Projectmix, and I'm getting levels in System Prefs.
I've got the M-Audio board in Logic mode, because that is what works best for garageband.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm getting really frustrated. Every iteration of iMovie seems to get more and more convoluted.

    Jim,
I did discover that VoiceOver treats this "Reader" window a bit differently than other windows. In most windows, once I'm in I just need to use the cursor to move around the page. In the Reader window though, it seems like I need to hold down the VO keys (Control and Option) to get the cursor to move. It's not a big deal, just a tad different. Still, this should help out my wife who sometimes gets lost in the clutter on some of these web sites she regularly goes to.

  • Logic 8 + M-Audio ProjectMix I/O

Anyone have any trouble setting this up under Leopard?

I am using the M-Audio Projectmix I/O with Logic 8.
The M-Audio Firewire Control Panel application appears to be working and the ProjectMix Multichannel hardware is recognized by Apples Sound-and-Midi settings panel.
Logic 8 will scan and recognize the M-Audio Projectmix I/O as a Logic Control unit in the Control Surfaces Setup window. Logic 8 will also recognize the ProjectMix Multichannel as a Core Audio device.
Finally also the M-Audio ProjectMix Control application runs and reads the configuration off the hardware. The driver software needed for the system to handle the M-audio firewire hardware had to be reinstalled after updating from OS 10.4.10 to 10.5
But I guess this will only last until the firewire driver software for the Apogee Ensemble comes along and kills it again! That is what just happened under OS 10.4.10 : Logic 8 was very happy to use the M-Audio ProjectMix as a Logic Control unit until the drivers for the Apogee Ensemble was installed. That killed it! Now the Logic 8 Control Surfaces Setup window will no longer perform a proper scan for connected controller units. One might think that the two units have a hard time sharing the same firewire port on the computers hardware. But thats not it! They work fine together when using Soundtrack Pro.

  • Does Logic Pro X work with M-Audio ProjectMix?

Has anybody tested the M-Audio ProjectMix with LPX? I know that it could work with mountain lion, even without new drivers. But does it Work with Logic Pro X?

I originally just upgraded from LION and the drivers loaded fine... once I started to use LPX, I realized I had way too many plugins and other apps on my Mac that I had acumulated over the years and I wanted to have a simpler, cleaner set-up, so I actually reformated my hard drive and re-installed everything from fresh. I haven't run into any bugs so far... make sure you have 10.8.4 running and the latest M-Audio Firewire Drivers and you should be OK.
I also use a few other DAWs that I purchaesd while Logic was languishing but I took them all off (other then StudioOne which I use if I need a 32bit environment) so I can be dedicated to just LPX.
I figured out the input monitoring issue, there's a new button in the preferences that selects just monitoring on focused tracks... turn that off if you are recording multiple instruments.
Lastly, if you do have some old 32bit plugins, and you have them in VST format (not AU), you can use a combination of JBridgeM and DDMF Metaplugin to run 32bit VSTs in LPX... it works very well. I have a Focusrite LiquidMix 32 unit that I thought I would have to let go but it works fine using this bridging set-up.

  • Mac OSX 10.8.5 with M-Audio ProjectMix I/O

I recently purchased an M-Audio Project Mixer from eBay to record acoustic drums. I am using a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8.5...only to discover that the PM is not compatible with OSX 10.8.5. I've researched for the latest driver uploads and firmware to no success. Please, someone tell me that with all this technology in todays world that there is a solution to make these two work. I refuse to believe that I just waisted all that money on this machine and cannot get the work I need done. Every post I've read thus far are saying that that the ProjectMix will not work with any Mac OS past 10.7.4. This may very well be true, I just find it hard to believe that no one can come up with a way to make it work. But if not, I guess I'll have to take this one on the chin and be done with anything M-Audio forever!!! Very disappointing.

  • M-Audio ProjectMix I/O & MOTU 828MKII

I recently had some odd experiences with 2 Mackie Control Universal units, and I'm currently back at the drawing board for purchasing a control surface.
    2 Questions:
    1) I've got an 828MK II and was wondering if the ProjectMix I/O is well suited just as a controller and not using the Audio parts and used in conjunction with the 828?
I'm sure there will be decent level of audio expansion as a benefit.
    2) How does the hardware compare with the MCU and ProjectMix I/O? (faders/jog wheel, and pots, buttons).
    Thanks for any feedback!

You shouldn't have a problem. I use the ProjectMix in conjunction with my MOTU 24I/O set up as an aggregate device. The ProjectMix doesn't get in the way. I will admit that I have not used any Mackie units, so I have no basis of comparison. However, I do like my ProjectMix and I use it often.
And, one can NEVER have too many audio inputs. I actually have appreciated the times that I can plug my guitar into the instrument jack of the ProjectMix, and I liked the sound I got out of it.

  • M-Audio Fast Track Pro compatibility with Logic Express

I am looking to add M-Audio Fast Track Pro. Does anyone have feedback for me, such as yes or no, or what else I might consider?
    Thanks,
    Tony

I have one and it works great for me. I'm still using LE8, but I'm sure it works with 9 as well. I use is primarily to record vocals (I've got an older ElectroVoice condenser mic). No complaints. If I had the money, I might go with a Firewire device, since it would be faster (less latency), but I don't have any regrets using the FTPro at all. I also use it to monitor my recording with its headphone jack.

  • Encore 2.0 Audio and DVD Player Compatibility

    Hello
I've made about 200 dvd's for a dance recital I've edited. This is my first year using 2.0 and have already had 2 people come back saying all they can hear is the applause track, and no music (in premiere, I had an audio timeline with just music from the soundboard, and one timeline for a stage mic to catch tapdances and applause). Once premiere renders the audio, I assumed it would all become one track in encore, which it appears to be. I looked in the settings, and it appears to have defaulted to dolby audio. Is this going to be a big problem? I'm not sure what encore 1.0 defaulted to for audio. I've tested my dvd's on my own stand-alone dvd player and it works fine.
    Thanks for any input.

Thanks for writing back. I did burn at 4x, and used TDK media (which I assumed was ok)...in the past 2 years that I've done this project, I used encore 1.0 with no problems (other than the standard +R vs -R problems).
I'll check the data rate, but I think it was well below the 7,000 level. I was just curious as to why certain dvd players would screen out the main track?..which is odd since there are only 2 assets in the project (besides menus) "audio" and "video", one each on the main timeline. How do you output your videos in encore 2? Do you use pcm or dolby digital?
    Thanks again.

  • Help! Trouble with M-Audio Firewire 410 MIDI Compatability

I am currently working on an iMac running OSX 10.4.11. I have been unsuccessful in trying to use a Yamaha P-70 keyboard, running through my M-Audio Firewire 410 using the MIDI input to record MIDI sounds in Garageband. I have had great success with this in the past before this version of iLife with the Garageband updates. My computer recognizes I have a MIDI device, and I have changed the proper settings both on the control panel and within Garageband to reading the M-Audio Firewire 410, yet I am not getting any signal from the keyboard as a MIDI instrument and therefore cannot record any sounds. Does anyone have any suggestions, or is this something perhaps someone else has dealt with already? I appreciate your help!

Very interesting. Couple of questions for you:
    1. Did it only affect MIDI instruments or real instruments as well?
    2. If it stopped working with GB, what did you to fix the problem? Would it possibly work with Logic? I have contemplated purchasing that software.
    3. Do you know of any fixes for the 410?

Is there some special setup that has to happen? Anyone know, or know who to ask or where to look?

  • M-audio projectmix help

I've tried installing my projectmix over and over again. I can't get my computer to recognize that my device is hooked up. What is going on? I've installed the software that comes with it. Nothing has worked. I can't open up pro-tools or any other program if my computer doesn't even recognize that the projectmix is connected. Someone Please help.

First off, did you set the unit to Logic mode by holding down "AUX 3" when powering on?
you only have to do this once.
if the project mix boots in the wrong mode, it won't sent the correct info to the software, thought it will send, just not what Logic is expecting to see and won't know how to translate the info recieved.
also, you may wish to reset the project mix to factory defaults by selecting from the project mix surface:
SET UP> chnl. 3 SEL to select fact def. >chnl 1 SEL to agree to the reset.
these two steps will solve a lot of issues.
you may need to seset the jog wheel by using the same path:
SET UP> SEL 5> and then turn to jog two or three clicks to the right.
make sure you do this SLOWLY, as the jog may become erratic, but it easy enough to fix by repeating the proccess.
Let me know if that works, if not I can trouble shoot you PM I|O a little more for you.
I'm also not familiar with stylus so there may be some one else that will hop on this thread to assist with communications to Stylus.

  • M-audio projectmix I/O with Logic pro

Hey there! I´m currently using digi002 with Protools 6.9 and I´m going to buy Logic pro soon but I want the controlsurface to work with Logic wich the 002 dosn´t do. But the new M-audio project mix does! and it looks a lot like he 002 but better in my eyes.
Does anyone have any experince with this combination? ? I´m planning to use protools m-powered and logic pro (the limitations in proltools m-powered I can live with)
What is the general opinion about m-audio, is it good quality?
    Powerbook G4 1.25Ghz 512mb   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   protools LE 6.9.2, Finale 2006, MAX/MSP 4.3 and more...

I'm down with you Nathan Pangburn
i've been doing alot of tracks / albums / songs with m-audio and echo stuff and they are not bad at all
of-course others are happier with digi and motu and others but i let my ears and mix do all the job for me
if those pro interface are better than m-audio then it'll be as much as enough for only the real musicians to hear, but the rest of the millions of normal people won't really care
they pay more attention if the music is good
80% buy music because its good
20 % buy music because of the sound and you can still fool them with a good mix
so what ever makes you happy is what you go for not what makes others happy
