M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 vs. klipsch promedia 2.1

I'm looking for some new computer speakers, and these both seem like a good choice. I want a huge amount of bass, but i will use them mostly for listening to music so I want clear highs and mids, and I can't decide which would be better for listening to music. Also, would it be possible to hookup a seperate powered subwoofer to the Studiophile MV 40? any help is appreciated.

Thanks for that suggestion!
Hmmm... Well a 4.2 is basically the same as a 4.1 as far as the inputs go - just one for the front set of speakers and one for the back, just like any other 4.1 system.
Please forgive my lack of correct terminology here, but if the connectors on that monster splitter will accept the same sort of speaker inputs that a typical sound card would then I think this would do the the trick.

  • Center Chanel Not Working: SB ZS 2 Gamer & Klipsch ProMedia

Not sure which section is appropriate for this answer but it could fall under speakers or the soundcard
I've read a few things on here about getting my center channel to work, but no luck. I have Audigy ZS gamer and for speakers I have Klipsch ProMedia 5.
I've switched the sound panel in my control panel to 5., I've looked into the audio console as well in the EAX section s well as the CMSS 3D and still no luck. I've unplugged and replugged the wires as well. I know for a fact that it was working before I reinstalled Windows a few months back. I've done all the necessary driver updates as well. Any other changes or possible "buttons" somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help

Does it work on the speaker test in the Creative software? If it does then try turning on CMSS.Message Edited by nvidiot on 08-27-2006 09:39 PM

  • Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 compatible with iMac 12,2?

After researching on line for a superior 2.1  external speaker component to purchase I bought the (wired) Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speaker system. The owner's manual states since ProMedia 2.1 has an internal amplifier, they are designed to use the "line-out" connector of (my) computer. I realize that my 27" iMac desktop (mid2011) does have a 3.5mm minijack output for both headphones & "line-out".
My concern is will the Volume Control of the control pod interface correctly allow volume control of my speakers? Considering that the owner's manual states: "Some soundcard and /or PC manufacturers may have software that must be adjusted separately from the WINDOWS volume control. -&- "SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE GAIN CONTROLS" directions are described for :  "Software Volume Controls in Microsoft Windows" - ONLY!
I (naively) have expectations that Best Buy, being that the are the only outlet that I could find that sells these Klipsch's speakers -&- have a APPLE "store within a (MF) store", should **** well know if the two items (Apple computers & Klipsch external speakers) are compatible with each other!!  SILLY ME!!!!
I do NOT suffer FOOLS, gladly!!
If someone has experience or an informed opinion, I would be very grateful for some input. I suppose I could unpack the speakers and experiment, but **** it, when will computer-affiliated businesses learn that PC does not equal MICROSOFT (!#$!%) WINDOWS?

Wondering if you ever got these to work. We purchased yesterday on a whim & after set up smelled hot metal & LED light went out on the one that has the controls. Only noises we have got out of them is a strange loud feedback & a pop when they are turned on or off. What gives?

  • Xbox 360 to Klipsch Promedia

Hi all, I have an Xbox 360 that I'd like to connect to my Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5. surround system. The Klipsch system is not digital however, and is currently connected through a Soundblaster Audigy 2 NX. Klipsch used to make a Promedia DD 5. Digital Decoder, but not anymore. Are there any similar products, products from Creative, or any other suggestions? Any help is much appreciated

If you mean you want to display the output of the Xbox on the iMac screen, there are several USB devices that can take a composite RCA or S-Video signal feed and display it on the iMac screen in a window or full-screen. I have this one.
    http://www.daystartechnology.com/AppleMac_Products/XLR8_Macintosh_Products/Mac_USB2_Video_Transfer_OSXPS.html
It does standard definition, like a regular (not HD) TV. It's meant to be used with video capture software, so there are other similar products, but you can use the software to just display the live feed.

  • Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers and iMac 10.9

Has anyone had any success hooking up these Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers to an iMac? Is there a driver I need to get from Klipsch? I hooked them up but all I could get was the iMac speakers to work. Went through 'Preferences' and changed the Apple settings but it did nothing. Any help is much appreciated.

  • Creative Audigy and M-Audio Studiophile LX4 Prob

    Hi
I build computers but I hang my head in shame at my knowledge of sound cards in my computer I have an Creative Audigy sound card and I have just purchased the M-Audio Studiophile LX4 2. speaker system.
I?m having a problem hooking it up as at the moment the sub is running of the left and right inputs. If I plug the sub input into the digital/audio out like I?m supposed to it doesn?t do any thing. I have CMSS enabled so I know it'ss not that.
    Can any one help me?

...just use the normal stereo output (green plug) for 2. speakers. Despite the name, there is no separate "sub" input on ANY 2. speakers on the market: they all work with a stereo signal, and the sub channel is separated by a low-pass filter inside the speaker's amp itself.

  • Hum problem with DDTS-100 with Klipsch Promedia 5.1

I have a problem with me decoder DDTS-100 since the beginning. I use it with Promedia 5.1 Klipsch kit.
When I use digital sources either optical or coax, when my decoder does'nt receive any signal from my DVD or X-box, I am earing a big hum coming out from my speakers. And then when my DDTS-100 receive a digital signal the hum disapeer.
I am not earing the hum when I use the analog input.
I am very disapointed about this bug because when the volume is high I am worried about my Klipsch kit.
    Thanks in advance
    Mat

I finnaly found out my problem
The buzz came out from my coax cable from my DVD. My DVD player was probably inducing 60Hz on the coax output.
I switched to the optical output and no more buzz.
I'll need to buy a new toslink cable to plug my x-box on the optical input #2
Also I pluged my TV audio out in my st analog input, it also induced a 60 Hz on my DDTS-100. The decoder does not seem to filter out electric noises.
I'm pretty happy to have found out my problem but I'm very dispointed that the DDTS-100 does not filter any electric noises.

  • No Center/Sub from Audigy using Klipsch Promedia 5.1 (analog) - NOT a CMSS/digital output qu

<FONT face=Garamond>I am receiving no center/sub output from my Audigy Platinum card. I have had the card installed on the same system (P4 3.0/ASUS P4800 Mobo/Win XP Pro SP2) for a couple of years with no problems. I recently began experiencing intermittent loss of my center/sub channel. Since I have not changed the connections in quite some time, I was able to rule out an improper output connection. Also, I was able to independently test the speakers themselves and the center and sub are both functioning. Additionally, I switched my Klipsch volume/channel output controller to headphone mode and ran the Creative Speaker diagnostic and I hear four channels (FR/FL/RR/RL) in the headphones (as I do with my front and rear speakers) but I <EM>do not</EM> receive any signal for the center channel (i.e., no "center channel" speech signal). Based on all of the above, I am certain that the speakers are functioning correctly (I am of course using them in analogue mode), there is no "switch" on the rear of the subwoofer for 2/2., all of my Creative and windows software are configured for 5. audio. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all of the creative drivers and software (using Driver Cleaner Pro in Windows Safe Mode) and reinstalled from my original Audigy CD and then performed a complete Auto Update from the Soundblaster.com site. <Still no center/sub even in diagnostic test!!!!
    <FONT face=Garamond color=#ff0000 size=4>
I want to be clear: I am not confused about CMSS 5. gaming/audio issues; I believe this is purely a soundcard output issue. Despite all the grousing I read about the Creative driver series, I have been most happy with the Audigy Plat card. It has performed extremely well with the Klipsch 5. in gaming, DVD, and audio contexts for several years through numerous driver updates. I know how to configure the settings to get true 5. in any context. However, now I am completely stumped. Is there anything I have overlooked or might try so I do not have to conclude that this great card has just "crapped out" and now needs to be replaced?
    Thanks for listening.

<SPAN>Thank you! I had my digital coax connected there with an adapter, but since that can only carry ac-3 and stereo signals im better of using direct 5 chan ( i don?t watch movies on my PC... that?s what the home theater is for) Most games use EAX or some other direct sound, so ill stick with 5. direct analog. who would have thought the digital jack was also for center/sub heh.

  • Macbook Pro + M-Audio Studiophile Speakers. VERT quiet sound output!

    Hi All,
Kind of a newb here - so I'm not sure if I'm going about this in the right way or not. Here's what's going on: I have an M-Audio BX5a speaker plugged into my Macbook Pro via the headphone jack (1/8" -> 1/4" cable) and even with the sound maxed on my MBP and BX5a, the volume coming out of the BX5a is extremely quiet. I Tried playing music through iTunes to do a sound test (this is my 1st time using these speakers) and the music is only audible when I'm sitting right next to the speaker. I tried searching through several pages of search results but couldn't find anything. I have a hunch that this is a Mac OS issue and not an M-Audio one, since I had a similar problem with my last macbook. All help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Adjust the *volume slider within iTunes* all the way up, turn the master volume control down to near minimum, and then test again, gradually turning the master volume slider up to see whether the results are better.
The volume slider in iTunes limits the maximum volume that is available through the master control, at least when iTunes is playing.

  • M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 monitors with imac optical digital out

I'm looking to purchase these monitors for my imac or ones very similar to them and was wondering how I go about hooking them up to the imac. I've read that I would have to use a mini-TOSLink cable to use the optical digital out, but how do I go from that to the RCA on the back of the monitors? Do they make a mini-TOSLink cable to RCA cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, the AV 40 inputs are line-level analog RCA; they 'don't understand' digital audio,
and the conversion requires more than a cable -- you'd need an D-to-A converter.
You could run an analog signal to the monitors with just a cheap miniplug-to-RCA
(analog) adaptor from Radio Shack; but if you want to use the iMac's digital output,
you'll need some sort of external digital-to-analog conversion hardware.
I don't know of any inexpensive stand-alone TOSLINK-to-analog converters, but
there are many USB-to-audio products that would allow you to feed digital audio
from the iMac to the AV 40's -- but through a USB port, rather than TOSLINK.
Search for "USB audio" on amazon.com and/or newegg.com.

  • Klipsch ProMedia GMX-D 5.1 and Mac mini G4

I can't get any sound out of these things. I just got them, I'm not a sound techie, but I plugged in the cable with a green end to my mac mini's audio-out jack, and plugged in the analog audio cables (the red and white ones) to the circle shaped sound-controller. The sound controller is hooked up through the DIN cable and power supply from the subwoofer (I think that's what it is) and I have all five of the little speakers hooked up to the subwoofer by putting in one wire end in the black slot and one in the red slot for each speaker. I think I did at least the final step properly. I don't care if I don't get surround sound, I just want to be able to hear through this nice set of speakers. Any response would be awesome, and remember, I'm an audio newb! If you'd rather e-mail me, feel free to do so at [email protected]

Just to clear out any questions you might have, here are some other facts:
It's got 5 "satellites" (that's what I've heard them called before) and a subwoofer. The satellites are hooked up to the subwoofer through two little wires with metal tips. Each satellite has a metal tip placed in the red hole above and the other tip in the black hole below. The subwoofer is connected to an outlet for obvious reasons. There is a DIN cable that runs from the subwoofer to the sound controller thing. There's also a DC cable that runs from the subwoofer to the sound controller to power the sound controller. There's a cable with a green end plugged into the mini's audio-out port and the red and white ends (the analog audio cables, male) hooked up to the sound controller's (obviously) female ports. That's the whole set up, if I'm doing something wrong, please correct me.
The following is a response to what you wrote:
I'm using a cable that's hooked up to the mini's headphone jack and it has the analog audio cables (the red and white ones, male). I know the cable works fine because I hooked up my mini to my bass guitar amplifier and I was able to get sound out. I'm not sure what's going because when I turn the subwoofer on (which provides power to the sound controller and the smaller speakers) I hear the subwoofer make a "bump" sound that most speakers make when they are turned on. The controller works because the on/standby LED light is lit up but that's about it, it's lit up in a dark yellow ish which I'm assuming means it's in standby mode but I also don't know how to bring it out of that mode.

  • Compatability with klipsch promedia ultra 5.1

i'm trying to figure out if my standard soundcard for my 1.5 gh g4 powerbook, about 2 years old now, can be used with these speakers, or if i'd be wasting my money. i can get a used, apparently perfect working set for $150.00, but don't know how to make them work together. ie; what kind of connecting cable do i need. i've searched the net with google to no specific avail.
thanks in advance for any help.
    G4 Powerbook, 1.5 Gh   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you want to get surround sound in games, you'll either have to buy an Dolby Digital Li've! card (Turtle Beach Montego or HDA X-Mystique) or get the Creative DTS-60 DTS Interacti've encoder (to convert analog to DTS digital).
If you just want surround for DVDs, you need to buy a hardware converter to go from coaxial to optical, like the one in the link below:
    http://www.shopping-headquarters.com/products/4008-v428.asp
You'll also need a minijack to RCA cable. If you get a stereo one, just connect the white RCA end to the GMX pod.

  • XPS 8500, klipsch 2.1 speakers, no audio?

I tried to connect klipsch 2.1 speakers to the audio outputs in the back. No sound comes out. SPDIF out  (PCLe) volumes are ok and sytem is supposed to be working. What gives? It apppears a lot of people had had the same problem.

     Hi Ymirahu,
We'd like to explain that the XPS 8500 has been equipped with a stop-gap mechanism which automatically disables the Integrated Audio ports from working, when an S/P DIF Connector is attached.
Effectively, you can either use the Normal Audio Ports or the S/P DIF Connector, not both - as each of them transmits individual audio signals.
For the Klipsch 2.1 Audio system, we recommend one connection - Use a standard 3.5mm Auxiliary Cable to connect the Sub-woofer to the Orange Audio port (Top-left of all audio ports) as that would suffice to generate audio.
For a clear understanding of the S/P DIF format and it's advantages, you can refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=S/PDIF

  • Audio Probelms with some DVDS/BLU-RAY discs when using optical out to Audigy 2

I have my PS3 connected to my Audigy 2 ZS soundcard via optical?cable to play 5. sound on my PC sound system (Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.). I have finally successfully played discrete 5. sound with some DVDs. I have changed my optical out setting to bitstream in the DVD/BD menu (XMB) and selected optical with everything checked in (XMB). So far, The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and Minority Report have worked in proper 5. (not stereo matrixing). Both Dolby Digital and DTS tracks (I know it works because it sounds twice as good as Dolby?Digital) ?work in Minority Report. The problem is... Jurassic Park (DTS) and my Blu-ray MIssion Impossible 3 have no audio (probably more too). The STRANGE part is if I fastfoward both films by .5x (so that audio plays in FF) I can hear audio. When FF by .5x the display signal on the top of the screen changes from DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL: Multi Channel to DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL: 5..
What is with that? Also I still do not get audio in any games, Resistance (Blu-ray)?or any game demo but I do get the audio from the game display screen (XMB). Please if anyone has?any?useful advise or information it would be greatly appreciated.
