M-Audio USB + Shure Mic + GarageBand =FRUSTRATION please help!

Hi everyone,
Problem: My new M-Audio Fast Track USB interface isn't working for me. I've got it and a Shure microphone and I work in Garage band.
I installed the M-Audio software and drivers. In system preferences as well as GarageBand's preferences, I set the audio in and out to the Fast Track. I plugged in the Fast Track into my MacBook Pro's USB. The power indicator lit up.
I then plugged the mic into the guitar jack in the back of the interface using the proper fitting. The mic light didn't light up. I turned the mic's gain knob allll the way up and it barely flickered indicating a mic signal. I put my headphones into the FastTrack, created a new real audio track in GarageBand and tried recording. Test, test, test. I played it back and it was just static.
What's going wrong here? There was some speculation that the M-Audio didn't want to work with GarageBand. I tried installing the ProTools free trial that came with the FastTrack to see where the error was (GarageBand and M-Audio working together OR the unit itself.) No luck. Each time I clicked Pro Tools, the black curtain slowly descended and my computer shut down.

    For this issue,please let us know the error code.
    Meanwhile, I suggest we disable and re-enable the USB controller to check the result.
    This lets the controllers recover the USB port from its unresponsive condition.
    To disable and re-enable the USB controllers, follow these steps:
    1.Press Win+X，and select Device Manager.
    2.Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    Note You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.
    3.Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.
    4.Repeat step 3 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    5.Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
    6.Check the USB device to see whether it is working.

    I suspect your error was 1015, not 1051. This usually involves a jailbroken iPhone, use Google to find your solution.

    Hi. I am one of the very unhappy people who can't use the iPad for recording since getting ios7.  The apple forum is replete with stories like mine: ios6 recording was quiet - ios7 is noisy. I have tried every suggestion. Why won't anybody at apple tell us what the problem is? I have been using macs since 1986. All I want to do is record my songs on my iPad. Unfortunately for me, I recently brought my iPad-mini refurbished so there is no warranty. If I had bought it new I would be at the Genius Bar until I got the problem fixed. Did I mention how unhappy I am?  Here are the specs: 1st gen iPad mini running ios7. Recording onto Multitrack DAW with a Samson Go mic to a 30-pin USB camera adapter, into an apple brand lightening adapter into iPad mini. Everything works fine except for the HISS.

  • Can't open Garageband project, please help

    I was using a Mac Mini, 10.7.5, and recorded some vocal tracks on Garageband 11.  I clicked gospel choir vocal effect at first, and it was fine.  When I wanted to try another effect by clicking another one, the application quit.  When I tried to open the project again, the initializing window popped up, and a few seconds after, it said something like "Garageband quit unexpectedly, do you want to reopen to restore the windows".  When I clicked "reopen", it directed me back to Garageband recent project page without opening the project I was working on.  I tried to open other projects I worked on previously, and those could be opened; just not the one that I worked on recently.
    I didn't back up anything with the Time Machine because I never used it before, didn't know how to use it.
    I just saved the project to my USB drive, deleted the one on the Mac Mini, deleted Garageband, updated to iOS10.9 something, reinstalled the newest version of Garageband, tried to open the project from the USB drive, failed again.
    When I open the "show package content", some mp3 files of my recorded vocals are there.  I don't think all of what I recorded are there, but some.
    Please help.

    Check first if your iTunes is up-to-date. If it's updated, try using a different cable or try plugging it to a different USB port.

  • Frustrated Please Help! ~ Squished Video

    I received a video clip that is 16:9, but it looks squished. It should only be 4:3. I need a way to un-squish it.
    I was hoping that when I imported it into iMovie there would be a way to change the aspect ratio and un-squish it. (to be clear, the video should be 4:3, but when I received it, someone had squished it into a 16:9.)
    In iMovie, if I select "cropping and rotation" and click "Fit" then the squished video is still squished, but there are now black borders on the top and bottom. What can I do to fix this?
    Oh and I read somewhere online that I could change the aspect ratio using DivX player. I was able to open it in DivX player and view it with the proper aspect ratio, but now there doesn't seem to be a way I can save the corrected version to import into iMovie.
    Any suggestions??

    -Perhaps you had "MIDI Local" set to OFF on the S80 controller.
    -set the volume on the S80 to off until you need the sounds.
    -You are actually creating a MIDI track instead of an Instrument track.
    -USB Midi is flummoxed and plugging/unplugging then rebooting Logic may fix (as mentioned by the previous poster)

  • Recording no audio!!??? PLEASE HELP

    I am a new audition user and have just set up my mic. I am running my microphone through a mixer, and into my mic input port on my computer. I am hearing gpood sound from my mic through my speakers, but for some reaseon audition does not seem to pick up any signal level at all. I have configured my windows volume control input setting to there highest potential. Still, however, I am unable to record a sound. Since the microphone is working with my computer, I suspect a software issue of some kind. Please help I have been playing with this for days now....

    It sounds like a "Windows Mixer" problem to me.  Audition doesn't select the source for recording; you have to specify that in Windows.
    You don't specify what version of Windows you're using so there will be slight differences, but basically you have to click on the little loudspeaker icon in the bottom right hand of your screen, get to the recording mixer, and select Microphone as the input you want to record.  Exactly how you do this varies among Windows versions but with some fiddling around you should find it.  Be aware that the basic mixer you find usually comes up showing playback, not record...so even if you can hear your mic you may be recording something else.
    This is usually the fix you need, but if it's not enough, check Edit/Audio Hardware Setup in Audition itself to make sure your sound card and appropriate driver are selected by Audition.

     I'm on a Toshiba NB205-N325BN, Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Atom processor N280 o 1.66GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express Chipset. Audio Driver is  a Realtek High Definition Audio driver version 6.0.1.5904
    My internal mic stopped working. I'm not sure how long it hasn't been since I don't use it all the time, but when I went to use skype last night I found that the mic wouldn't work with anything even the sound recorder program in the accessories folder. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but to no success. I figured I give this forum ago to see if any one could help otherwise I'll have to call the Toshiba support line or do a clean install of windows (which I do not want to do at this time.)

    I actually got in contact with Realtek's support via e-mail, and they sent me a program to install that will let them check their devices that are on the machine. After I ran the scan this is the conversation that we had:
    Realtek: "We found you had plugged a external mic to microphone jack. Have you tried to unplug external mic and then check the built in mic ?" 
    Me: "I don't own an external mic, but I did plug in my headphones into the mic port by accident recently maybe that was it? I don't have anything plugged in right now and it's not working."
    Realtek: "Please try to dump audio info again(run the scan again) during recording interanl mic sound."
    After I ran the scan again they sent me these instructions, and I'm kind of confused on what he means (I think the support is in Asia somewhere and they are translating each message at a time.)
    Realtek: "We tried to check it with TOSHIBA. Your machine supports audio prower download feature after audio idle status. You can try to turn off this function on the Power Manager Page of Realtek HD Audio Manageer. Or you can try to plug headphone jack to keep audio power up state .
    Can anyone help me understand that last part? I went to the Audio Manager and I didn't see a Power Manager page anywhere! Does "Or you can try to plug headphone jack to keep audio power up state." Mean that it might start working if I try to use it with headphones?

  • Photoshop CC program error when opening or placing files. VERY FRUSTRATING PLEASE HELP.

    I'm an advertising graduate student that relies heavily on Adobe programs for my multiple simultaneous projects throughout the school year, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Muse, Edge Animate and Premiere Pro.
    I'm using a MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite.
    I have been experiencing an incredibly frustrating issue with Photoshop and Muse, both CC 2014. I'll speak about Photoshop in this thread since, well, this is a Photoshop forum. This has been happening for almost a year now. I figured Adobe would've fixed this problem by now, especially given the myriad of crash reports I send.
    While working in Photoshop, sometimes when I go to place a file I get an error message that says "Could not complete your request because of a program error." It used to be that this error was fatal and I would have no other choice but to force quit out of Photoshop and restart it. We all know how incredibly time-consuming it is for Photoshop to open (especially 10-15 times in one sitting), and being in grad school, time is not something I have a lot of when I have deadlines and projects due.
    This error is still happening and for the same reasons; however, now I can still continue to work on my file, as long as I don't need to open a document or place an image...which doesn't help very much because I'm doing a lot of mockups and composites and need those functionalities. It happens probably 90% of the time when I try to place or open a document.
    For the record, it's a similar issue that's causing Muse to crash as well. When I try to add an image file, it causes the entire program to crash "unexpectedly," as Muse so eloquently puts it.
    Until recently I had kept CS6 on my hard drive and would dig it out to use in place of CC when PSCC would crash; however, someone told me that having both versions was likely the cause for the crashes. After much hesitation, I finally uninstalled all of CS6 from my hard drive the other day (the right way, not into the trash can, since someone is inevitably going to ask that question) and I'm still having this problem, and now I don't have my CS6 version to fall back on and now I'm in a really bad spot.
    I apologize for all the rambling, but I'm really very, very frustrated with this error, and I had to do something while waiting for Photoshop to restart. Someone please help.

    MacOS 10.10? Yeah, Apple is working on that bug.  They already fixed the crash in the open/save dialogs, but have a few more problems to address with the open/save dialogs.

  • Audio not working.... please help!

    Alot of the time when I talk on my phone I use the headset for hands free, but recently I've been having a major problem. After I unplug the headphones, the phone still recognizes them as being plugged in(pressing the volume buttons on the side causes "Ringer(Headphones)" to pop up on my screen.
    Now, because the phone still thinks my headphones are plugged in, it doesn't play any audio, except for ringtones... but if I answer the phone, I can't talk unless I plug my headphones back in first. I've tried using the silent/ring switch on the side, restarting my phone multiple times, plugging it into my charger and into my computer, and plugging the headphones back in and then unplugging them again... so I don't know what to do. Please help!

    Ok-i think I figured it out (maybe?) I tried the aforementioned tricks to get the headphone jack clean and to no avail neither of them worked. So after some thinking, I used my air compressor to blow out the jack and my phone audio instantly worked. Now I don't recommend doing this because the air could damage your phone if exposed for a period of time but I just did a short burst and it seemed to work fine. Hope this helps anyone who found this issue really annoying....cheers
