M$ KB2709289 hotfix support from toshiba

i recently tried to due a system restore using the windows 7 recovery environment mode and received an error when i attempted to do a system restore. looking up the error on line brought me to this M$ support page; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2709289. while the hotfix can be implemented by end-users, the process is a lot more complicated than simple installing an update. the page also has this note; "Note If your environment is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) product, contact the OEM vendor for more information"
So does Toshiba have an update or something that will install the patch to the windows 7 RE on laptops that were shipped before may 2012 (when the patch was released)?
Toshiba Satellite P500-ST6844
PSPGSU-OQ2012

i'm not sure what you mean by history. do you mean the history of my laptop or why i needed to use system restore?
my laptop was purchased from toshibadirect.com in may 2009. I chose to custom order my laptop, and after recieving i there were some issues with it involving a incomplete factory image and missing default toshiba software (not office). toshiba exchanged the laptop (for free) for the one i have now, as one of the custom options i chose for my laptop, i chose Windows 7 Ultimate x64 as my choice of OS. as soon as win7's SP1 came out, I installed it. i dont remembe rwhat the serial or model number of the 1st laptop was, but i do know it was different to what i have know
the reason my p500 wont boot properly atm is i accidently screwed up a important registry key related to a critical windows service while i was working on an issue involving my home network connection settings. it was one of those "oops, that wasn't the key i was supposed to delete moments". when i did it, windows gave off some weird error i hqave never seen before saying something simialr to "windows has detected changes to...... and needs to reboot."  I thought i had things well in hand with the ability to do a system restore.
but restore is not working.
windows is able to boot....sort of. iwindows keeps telling me that windows 7 is no kinger genuine because of file changes or something.  everytime i run system restore from the recovery evioroment, it ended with an error 0x800ffff . I ran the usual checks for issues, chkdsk, sfc, etc. and those came back clean. I hardly ever use sytem restore. so this issue could have existed for quite a while with out me knowing. I also uninstalled all my security software. still no dice. a google search turned up the m$ KB. I even tried using previous restore points further back than i wanted to go (more than three days) and no matter which point i used, it errored out.
i was able to uninstall my av/firewall from the recovery envioroment by using the manual uninstaller provided by the av/firewall maker (eset)
i would rather not have to restore my system from one of my backups oor do a factory restore, especially when the fix is so tantalizingly close.
I could implement the fix on my own and update the wim file that contains the recovery envioroment, but i probably risk fouling up the toshiba options if i do so. also the process for getting to and accessing the file is more effort than i want to put out for something that should be fixed by toshiba, not me.

You can transfer data a few ways from PC to MAC.
If you have an external hard drive formatted to a readable format, you can manually transfer data this way.
Or, you can use Windows Migration Assistant:

  • How to get Vista Installation Disk from Toshiba?

I've been working with Microsoft support to resolve a security issue on my Satellite Pro A210, and have now been asked to use a Vista installation disk.
Microsoft says that I am entitled to an installation disk from the original supplier of my kit - Toshiba. But one did not arrive with my laptop - only a recovery disk was supplied.
How do I go about acquiring a Vista installation disk from Toshiba?
    Regards,
    Kevin C.

Mores is right. Toshiba doesnt offer installations CD with operating system only. you will get recovery image.
    Recovery image definition:
+Recovery Image is an exact copy of a computer's hard drive and contains the exact, byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive partition.+
+The copy includes all the partition information, boot sectors, the file allocation table, operating system installation and different application software.+
+Using Recovery installation CDs/DVDs, you can restore your system after heavy data loss caused by an operating system crash, virus attack or hardware failure complete.+
+Recovery image installation procedure allows the user easy and fast system installation. Unfortunately it is not possible to restore only certain files from a disk image.+
+Every recovery image is designed for one specific notebook model and it can not be used for any other notebook series.+

IE Explorer must be having issues again I've had problems with it for several days. Reset internet to default setting and restart computer or use the Microsoft fixit to do it for you.

While other devices having same hardware supports 64Bit then why shouldn't Encore too?

... I found an Win10 Intel platform driver v1.14 on the Lenovo website for the Thinkpad 10 tablet. Doesn't look as a dedicated Win 10 driver to me as it was already released as an WIn 8.1 driver before. This works pretty nice with the Encore as the hardware components are very similar. I removed the audio and GFX section out of the config file before starting the setup procedure as I do not want to overwrite the Dolby audio driver from Toshiba and the already installed Win10 graphics driver I found on the downloadcenter.intel.com website. Everything works nice and without any problems. Nevertheless, I wouldn't recomment this approach for the standard users out there. You need to know what you ar doing with this driver-mixture I'm pretty sure that Toshiba will release an updated platform driver pretty soon - but I don't expect significant improvements to my current configuration ... Bernd

  • How to get direct support from apple

Hi, I am a new iPod user... I have just created a new account and I am having problems with language support. So I tried to get support from Apple and ended up here...
So my first question is, is this forum being maintained exclusively by iPod users or are there any apple employees helping too? Is there otherwise some other way to get help online from apple or are we on our own, just as if we were using any piece of freeware software?
And here is the original question that made me look for support: I live in Spain but like to use my PC in English. My Windows is configured for English, and so is the iTunes software. But since I have registered my user account under a Spanish location, I cannot avoid getting the iTunes Store in Spanish language. The result is a mixture of Spanish and English in the iTunes window. Is there a way of changing that and keeping my Spanish profile and billing details while getting all text in English?
By the way there must be a bug in the registration process... the first time the credit card data is requested, it says "if you live outside the US click here", so I clicked there, then selected "Spain" and I got an OK screen which ended my registration process... but the account was not created, since I was getting "unexistant account" responses. So I had to create the same account again... the second time iTunes knew I was in Spain so I could proceed with the credit card data and the account was created. This means that the screen flow fails to create a proper account in the cases where you have to select a different billing country.
OK... that is all, sorry for the long list of questions.

is this forum being maintained exclusively by iPod users or are there any apple employees helping too?
Though on rare occasions you will see a post from an Apple employee, the Discussions are intended for user-to-user assistance only. There is no guarantee, nor even a strong likelihood, that an Apple employee will ever respond to any post here.
Is there otherwise some other way to get help online from apple or are we on our own, just as if we were using any piece of freeware software?
It depends on the problem. If you're having a technical problem with iTunes or an iPod, you can call Apple tech support (there is no support via email for problems with Apple hardware or applications). The call may not be free, depending on when you purchased your iPod and whether or not you have AppleCare for it.
If you have a problem with the iTunes Store, then go to the iTunes Store Customer Service site, select the page most appropriate for your issue, and submit the web form that you'll find at the bottom of those pages (note that the form won't be on any KnowledgeBase article page, only those from the Store itself).
I cannot avoid getting the iTunes Store in Spanish language.
To the best of my knowledge, the Spanish iTunes Store itself is only available with Spanish titles, etc., regardless of what language you have your system set for.
As to your registration, did you get the account created successfully? Or is there still a problem and if so, where is it hanging up?

    Dear Lenovo Friends,

I've contacted the Lenovo Support in Poland and they tend to tell that this is because Microsoft has invalidated my codes for unknown reason. Contacting Microsoft they told me that it its vendor's (Lenovo) problem and they are not responsible - shall I obtain new licence key from Lenovo. The Polish Thinkpad support is working on the problem since January the 9th, with no success.
The Windows grace period is already over and I cannot use my ultrabook now without activating the licence.
Is this the famous Thinkpad support quality? I already own 4 Thinkpads and sorry gyus but I'm considering swithing to some other vendor.
When I called them, the solution provided by the Thinkpad support was... "would you please reainstall the OS once more to get another grace period?" I was thinking it was a kind of joke, but it wasn't... Asking for the responsibility of the Lenovo for the Windows OS they provided I was told that Lenovo is not responsible and I was given the advice to buy the hardware with no OS next time, have box licence from Microsoft separatelly.
I'm really disappointed. This is my last Thinkpad I believe. It seems even having the warranty it is not enoug to get support from Lenovo - I'm on my own...
    Regards,
    P.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Solved!
Finally I've got another DVD recovery set from Lenovo. Now it works. Seems that the first DVD set was invalid .

  • Unbelieveable lack of support from Apple (error -50 issue)

Well I've just updated iTunes again and of course, I still have the -50 error trying to download the video I purchased over a month ago. That's at least 3 or 4 releases of the software and still no fix. And before somebody recommends that I do the things mentioned on this forum (like deleting the .tmp file and rebuilding your music), I've done all of those. Also, I purchased a ringtone the other day for my iPhone and it downloaded just fine SO THE ISSUE IS OBVIOUSLY RELATED TO iTunes and a large (over 2gig) video file and has nothing to do with my computer.
What really gets me is that I've posted more than once on this subject, along with other people, and have absolutely no support from Apple. Oh well, at least I have a $100 voucher I can use for something. Maybe I can get my $10 back for the video I paid for....
I also have a mac Mini so I really consider myself a good Apple customer. To bad they don't really seem to care....

  • Impeccable support from Apple...

    Dear all,
I feel that I need to say this, in view of all the negative posts regarding support from Apple.
I am, admittedly, on my 4th MB. 1st's case was badly designed, and I returned it straight away as I had so many problems of the same ilk with my old PB. The next RSDd, but had great, if not perfect support from Apple, and came away with a perfect model, apart from its line out not working. I tour with my laptop, so this was retty much a killer for me. Now, here I am on my week 38 and am not having any problems at all.
While I know that some would consider a 4th replacement hard to bare, I have had wonderful support from the Regent Street store. They have been very accomodating and helpful, and most of all understanding. It seems that they take your situation in to account very seriously indeed, and I guess the only service I have had comparable to it is private banking. All of my cases have been reviewed individually, and I feel that they take all of them seriously, offering the best solutions they can.
I know that some have had bad experiences: the point of my post is not to gloat in any way at all, it is purely to say thanks to the staff who have been so helpful, and also to provide a very positive experience were anyone to do a search of these forums.
I do rely on Apple products for my profession, but in no way feel any affiliation with them for those reasons. I do feel very indebted to them, however, for providing great customer support and, whilst experiencing teething problems with their product, dealing with it in a very professional way indeed.
To those having difficulty, I wish the very best of luck, but I just wanted to add something that I feel is very positive to these forums which tend (of course, due to their nature) to be full of negative views.
    All the best, Fred

Apple no longer directly approves nor sponsors user groups. The coordination of user groups has been passed to a separate advisory board. You can find information and ask to be included in their listing here:

I have a family who will receive the laptop
What I want is someone advise me on the east or purchase I need help to complete the purchase.
Personal toshiba to help me to complete this purchase. .
    Thanks
    Note:
    I live in Peru.
I have some queries about the product.

    Hi
First of all you should know that this is a user to user forum. So you will not find any people from Toshiba here.
Secondly I have checked the page which you have posted in the posting and find this phone number. Call 800-316-0920 for shopping assistance.
Otherwise I recommend searching for some online dealers who provide the notebook which you want to buy.
    Good luck

  • New to Mac....can transfer files from Toshiba to Mac. But can't transfer files from Mac to Toshiba??? Can anyone help please?

New Mac user......own a new iMac and iPad and still use a Toshiba Laptop. Can transfer files from Toshiba to iMac but can't transfer files other direction?

Are you doing these transfers over a Network connection, the systems are networked together over your Home LAN? Or are you doing it with an external drive?
If an external drive Mac OS X can READ Windows NTFS formatted drives but can NOT WRITE to them. So you can co[py files to the drive on your Win PC and READ them on the Mac but Mac OS X can not Write to that drive so you can't copy files from Mac to that drive.
For an external drive to work on both systems, be able to Read and Write from/to that drive, it has to be formatted either FAT32 or exFAT.

  • Qosmio F50-10K - How to get Vista 64Bit from Toshiba

    Hello,
Few days ago I bought Qosmio F50-10K but with Vista Ultimate 32 Bit.
    It doesn't satisfy me
Does anybody know, how can I get Vista Ultimate 64 Bit from Toshiba?
This version was developed for Poland, but in this country there is no Representative Offices or something like this. There are only distributors or shops which import laptops from foreign distributors.

Isnt it funny that some notebooks from different manufacturers are not equipped with any Operating Systems?
You got a Vista 32bit of course it would be better if everyone could choose the OS which is the best for everyone but fact is that computer manufacturers sell the own products with the most popular OS and 32bit is more popular as 64bit OS due to compatibility with other 3rd party software.
