M2T files cant be read with AA CS6 (Mac)

Hi, I gave osmeone some M2T files. Some were from a Z7 and some from a Datavideo DN 60 recorder (which was connected to a Z1). The person I gave them to said he could not read them in After Effects CS6 on Mac. Anyone got any ideas how I has resolve this.

Maybe you can rename the extension, but I wouldn't. Working in AE is all about preserving image quality, and mpeg files are lossy. I'd transcode to a better codec first.

All my After Effects projects show as opening with Acrobat and I cannot change them to open with After Effects, and these were created with AE CS6.
Any ideas?

Ok simple easy idiot proof method. Go to
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files
Rename AfterFX.exe to AfterFX.exe.org or anything will do to make it a non.exe file. Then click on any .aep file. Windoze will say can't find AE CS5.5 and it will then allow go to the dialog window where you can change it to open with AE CS6. Check the always open with this app box and you're done. Go back and rename the changed CS5.5 file to AfterFX.exe and you're back to normal with all future .aep files to open in CS6.
Same process with any version of AfterFX.exe Windoze may have locked you in to.

Importing m2ts files but having problems with the audio layer

Hi all, I'm new to the whole video editing side of things and so would appreciate some help.
I've just bought myself a Canon HF200 HD camcorder, and a Sony Vaio notebook which came with Premiere Elements 7.0 pre-installed.
For the last month I've been shooting footage, and just getting down to trying to edit everything and put a DVD together.
The problem I have at the moment (and I've just started using the program, so everything is new to me) is that while I seem to be able to import the m2ts file format that my Canon records, only the video is imported into Premiere - not the audio.
I can play all my videos in Windows Media Player just fine, with both video and audio. So it seems my machine is able to read the files correctly in this program. However, the audio seems to drop out when I import the file into Premiere. The program was pre-installed in my machine, and when I go in to have a look at the audio settings, there doesn't seem to be an ability to change the settings to something different.
So far I've spent a long time googling and trying to find a solution, but with no joy just yet.
Appreciate any assistance the anyone can offer.

I think I sorted it. If you look at the Premiere Pro forum, on the right is a box with a link to "Forum Best Practices".

Being a good first time poster, you read that. But the problem is, it places you inside the Forum Comments forum. So when you choose to Create a Discussion, you aren't creating the discussion in the Premiere Pro forum. Instead, you are creating it in the Forum Comments forum.
Looks like perhaps a forum mod needs to work on this and create a duplicate thread in the forums in question.

.m2ts files no audio in Premiere Pro CS6

So my brother want's me to create a video of his son using the videos he filmed on a Panasonic HC-X800, he gave me these files on an external hard-drive. I've never worked with .m2ts files before so wasn't sure what to expect when I dropped them into Premiere, wasn't expecting there to be no audio, I can't seem to find a fix and the only alternative being is to convert to mp4's using handbrake, which isn't the most easiest alternative considering there are 162 videos all varying in length.

In my experience, I suggest that you could set Copy to Output Directory property of the PDF file to “Copy always”.

NEF Files Cant Be Read

updated to lightroom 3.5 wont read my NEF files. PLEASE HELP i have been at this for hours. How to I Import my photos from my D300?

So as soon as you updated to LR3.5 it quit working but used to work with LR3.4 or has something else also changed like an OS upgrade or new user profile?
It may be that LR 3.5 is using a different OS function to read from the camera which isn’t compatible, anymore, or something else may be coincidentally be going on.
Can you copy the files from the camera to your hard drive, successfully using Finder or Explorer, depending on your OS?
If you can copy files to your hard-drive and import from there and they work ok, then it may be either a cable issue or some OS-level-interface change in LR.
Do you have a card-reader to see if that works?
Does the camera have any USB-mode like PTP and Mass Storage where only one does what you want for copying RAW files?

CC 2014 .aep files will not open with AE CS6

I have a file for Adobe After Effects I was working on for class, however I couldn't work on it at the college last week due to spring break so I used the CC Trial that they had available from this website for my laptop. Today, when I tried to open it up on one of the college computers that has the CS6 version of the software, it wouldn't open. I get this error that says:
I have worked on this project a whole bunch, and it is due this upcoming Wednesday. How can I convert the .aep file to the software from my college?

You need to save backwards. CC 2014 (which is version 13) can save back to version 12 (which is CC). Then you would open it in version 12 (CC) and save it back to version 11 (CS6).

Ok, I'm doing something unique here maybe. I'm trying to Network Render a project because it takes about 8 hours or so to render in Premiere. My workflow consist of a number of dymanically linked AE files that make up some titles, info headers, and some green screen comps. This is all cut beatifully on the Premiere Pro timeline and audio is edited nicely in Audition. What I'd like to do is import the Premiere Pro project back into After Effects after the final cut and use the AE renderer to distribute. The problem I run itno is the .aep files I used in premiere show up as unlinked footage. Further more trying to relink the file leads the ,aep files to be represented by the importer as "8o u" or some crap like that. Can .aep files not be directly represented in a workflow like this?

If you have a Premiere Pro project that contains linked AE files as source footage then AE will have to open up in the background to run and render those files. Also, all linked Comps in AE will have to be in the same AE project.
If you open up the Premiere Pro project in AE then what do you think will happen to the linked files? AE will have to open them up and render them so that they can be rendered in AE.... See the problem.
Dynamic Link and AE as a comp are only useful in PPro if you're finishing your project in PPro. If it were my project as soon as the edit was close to final I would have rendered all of the dynamic linked files and bring the footage into PPro. Now you'll have no problem in AE doing the final color grading.
Most of my long form projects that require a final color grade are rendered from PPro or FCP or Avid to a production codec and then the footage is brought into AE for the final color grade if I need things like Colorista. Other wise the final color grade is done in Speed Grade or the entire sequence is sent out for color grading by boxing up a bunch of hard drives and bringing the entire project into a grading studio.

4.0 layout files cant be read by 4.1 and vice versa?!?

I have just learned that all my videoTs folders that I have built in studio pro 4.0 cannot be formated in DVDSP 4.1 and vice versa. This is extremely frustrating and has limited the efficiency having both a G5 workstation and a Xeon workstation should yield.
Any one know why this is?

Error message when transferring files from Adobe reader on iPad to Mac via iTunes

I use adobe Reader on my iPad Air for work and at the end of each day transfer the files to my Mac at home through iTunes. Lately i am getting an error message "file could not be copied because an error occurred. A duplicate file name was specified." I have updated everything i can think of..any suggestions?

Isn't the error message displayed by iTunes? Can you check your Mac to see if there are actually duplicate files?

CBR m2t files

Hi All,
this has probably been posted before but as I am new to the forums and the whole MAC experience in genral ill post anyway - I feel like im in encoding 101 again.
I need to create a CBR 40mb 1280x720 m2t file - is this possible with compressor
all i can seem to output is VBR and my post encoder wiggs out with vbr files.
Premiere can do this - why cant compressor?
Any Help would be great thanks
at the moment im exporting my files in PRORES and then making my m2t files on a PC ... but ideally id like my mac to fit into my workflow

Does this happen with ALL of the MTS files from that recorder, or just some of them?
With truncated audio, the first thing that comes to my mind is that the Conforming process was not able to complete, but this would probably only affect some, but certainly not all, such files. Just for some background, see this ARTICLE on Conforming and Indexing files.
When you look at the Waveform Display, does that go "flat-line," when the Audio signal ceases, or does it continue to show up properly?
While a player accesses the source file, for both Audio and Video, PrPro accesses the CFA files for Audio, and the PEK files for Waveform Display.

PS - someone asked about NTFS formatting. If you have your HDD formatted to FAT-32, then you also might be reaching the ~ 4GB file size limit. Something else to check.

DTS HD audio is missing from .m2ts file

I am learning how to use Premiere Pro by extracting the musical numbers from a commercial blu-ray disk (which I purchased). The master .m2ts files are fine, playing nicely in the appropriate player. The .m2ts file audio is encoded with DTS HD-MA. However when I bring the .m2ts file into Premiere Pro or Encore CS5 there is no audio. In the browser by the thumbnail I see the video described (1920 x 1080 (1.0), 23.976 fps, but there is no audio description. Playing the preview I see the video without any audio. I'm using a 12 cpu MacPro August 2010, 48 gb ram.
One possibility might be that I am lacking DTS-HD support. However I was hoping that there might be some way to simply extract the clip from the master .m2ts file with the original audio, and then generate a new file just copying the master audio track (clipped), without processing.
My goal is to transfer the clips to a PS3 in order to play the clips with the original audio bitrate (4-5 mbps). Is this possible? Unfortunately the PS3 has the same problem, it also plays the .m2ts file without the audio.

Better use material you shot yourself, or get the original material from the copyright owner. As you noticed DTS is not supported, but the company that has given you (written) permission to edit their material may have the audio in an editable format.

Audition CS6 Mac Won't Play Audio Interface Preference Issue

Hi Im having some problems with Audition CS6 mac. I have the full master collection and only encounter this issue with Audition.
On my Macbook pro
I use my internal speakers/audio or a vrm box audio interface, occasionally Ill use a fasttrack pro to record. My problem occurs after I use the audio interface. When I next open Audition set up for the built in speakers/audio and hit play, it says playing but nothing plays.
When I open Audition after using a external interface going back to my built in macbook audio I get a pop warning that:
"Your systems audio hardware settings have changed. Would you like to go review Audition's audio hardware preferences?"
I click yes, go to that everything is set for internal mac audio,
hit play, says playing bottom left, then just sits there.
I noticed today when it did this, that it if I go into the Audio Channel Mapping Preference, it shows what ever audio interface I used last on the output/not working on it. I am unable to change theses settings.
I reboot after changing audio interfaces, etc.
I can delete my Audition preference files in my user folder and it functions again, but that also entails rescanning all plugins which takes some time.

I just found that removing MachineSpecificSettings.xml in the user/preferences/adobe/audition/5.0/ folder will get it to play again under the internal audio settings. And when I look at channel mapping it shows the internal audio.

Ouicktime 7.5 not working with Flip 4 Mac.

I upgraded QT to 7.5 and now my QT plays the audio but no picture when running streaming WMV files. I checked with Flip 4 Mac but they said its a Quicktime issue.I'm running the latest version of flip 4 mac (2.2.0.49R). Anyone have the fix to this problem?

This won't help you, but just for the record, I have not noticed any problems at all with QT 7.5 or for that matter Flip4Mac and playing WMV files, and we are using the same OS.
It might be worth your while checking the following for updated components:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.1, QT 7.3, 7.4 and 7.4.5 and OS 10.4.11.
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.11 and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:

(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-003. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:
