M30: BIOS password: never set but now asking for a password

I've never set my BIOS password before on my Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop.
However i have just switched it on, and the laptop is asking me for a password.
Does anyone know why this is so?
I am not asking on how to hack it - but just wondering what the hell is going on!

The BIOS password(s) are stored on the CMOS chip itself, and the normal procedure for resetting them (if the password is not known) is to fully reset the CMOS chip contents.
Although this sounds pretty straight-forward the problem is that the password information is stored in a non-volatile part of the chip so that the normal BIOS reset techniques do not affect it. Techniques such as disconnecting the CMOS battery in order to remove all user information will also not work.
ASPs use a special device for resetting the CMOS chip contents although some repairers will opt to change the mainboard where they do not have the necessary equipment available.

Tina Hadley did you migrate/transfer your applications over to your new Macintosh? If so this could cause problems with your serial number being recognized. Please run the available uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once this is done you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool. Got a new iPad and set up to sync with iCloud and now asking for password which I never set. How do I get on device if I don't know what it thinks password is?

Help. I just got a new iPad 2 and set up sync with iCloud and no password. Now asking for a password and I never set one up. What password does it want: iTunes, iPhone (no real password there either). Tried as many passwords as I could think with the iPad locking me out since I don't have the password! You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:

Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.

If you are trying to create an Apple ID without using a credit card, you have to follow the directions in the article you were reading (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534) exactly. Note that you have to start by downloading and installing any free app, then create the ID. You shouldn't be asked for a Gift Card to create the ID.

Paul--you are a life-saver!! Worked great. I did have to look around to make sure I was getting 4.9 instead of 4.7 (even when the file was named 4.9 at techspot.com), but I finally got the right file, did the install as you suggested, and everything is now fine. One note, though, that I haven't seen mentioned in any of this thread: when I first tried to open up iTunes after getting back to 4.9, the following message appeared: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I merely went to the old .itl file that was created when I did the update to iTunes 5, renamed it, moved it over to my now new 4.9, and iTunes opened fine. My library was a few days out of date, because of the few days' lag from the time I did the iTunes update, but that was easily taken care of, and everything's now working fine. Thanks again!!!

You may not be able to get a refund, since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:

It's possible they'll make an exception for you, particularly if the problem was on their end preventing the movie from downloading in a reasonable time.

Ask whom/wherever you got the redemption code from for one that has not already been used.

The main thing to do is to sign out all services on your iPhone, like iCloud, iTunes & App Store, iMessage and FaceTIme. Check out the article below for more information.
