M300: Remember extended desktop settings

I use my M300 with an external monitor and an extended desktop (i.e. different images on the two monitors). I also have the external monitor set up to a higher resolution than the lcd (and on the left of the LCD not the right).
However, I have to redo the settings every time I log in. Is there a way to get the graphics utility to remember the setup (and even to assign it to the hardware button left of the keyboard)?

Thanks to Pedro for the response but I should have explained more - the external monitor is connected directly (not via a docking station) and I am using the graphics setup utility supplied with the laptop NOT the Windows desktop properties dialogue. Although they have the same effect and the Windows dialogue may be quicker I was hoping that the dedicated utility might provide me with an instant means of switching
By the way - no problems with disappearing images as I always set it back to LCD only before logging off

  • Extended desktop video troubles

I have a 20" imac with a 24" extended desktop and I am loving it. There's just one thing that is very annoying. I got the second monitor because I like to watch videos while I write and search the web. but most of the video sites I go to won't stay in full screen when I click the mouse. So I'm forced to watch videos that take up only 1/4 of the screen. On many sites I can zoom into the website, but this often creates a jittery, blockiness that isn't there when the video is set to full screen.
So my question is, how can I get my browser to not jump out of fullscreen when I use the other monitor? Is there a certain browser that has that kind of option? Is there an app for my computer that will let me do that? Do I not understand something fundamental about changing video settings? Or am I completely out of luck?
I'm having this problem on sites like youtube, all the network sites, megavideo wisevid, dailymotion, zshare, ninjavideo, etc etc. Pretty much the only site that I don't have the problem with is Hulu, of which I can either use Hulu Desktop or I can pop the video out and then expand it to the size of my screen.
So I guess another question is, if I can't do something that would uniformly fix the problem for all the sites, are there any more programs like Hulu Desktop (besides netflix) that are ideal for watching on an extended desktop?

And there's one more question I was hoping to get answered that I forgot to mention.
Is there a way to dim one screen to black while the other continues to play a video? I know that frontrow does it automatically, and quicktime and vlc both do it, but I would like to be able to do it easily on my own command--maybe with quicksilver (i'm not using the program yet but plan to get used to it).

  • Extended Desktop (video out) issues

Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up an extended desktop onto another monitor using my iMac G5, 1.8 GHz. Mirroring the desktop is fine, and the help screen says that if there's no "Arrangement" option, then it won't be able to set up the extended desktop. I don't see this, but I seem to remember having this computer use a second display as an extended desktop before. Is there a solution for this or am I destined for mirrored desktops only?

yep, sounds like your computer doesn't support spanning, only mirroring...
As someone else said there is a firmware extension script called 'screen spanning doctor' (google it). I wouldn't call it a hack as you can remove it by resetting your pram, i think... however, it can mess your computer up, so really think before you want to use it!!

  • ITUNES AND EXTENDED DESKTOP

O guess I can't post a pic as a reference here or attach the thing.
Ok, I run two 17 inchers down deep and it's 2560x1024 display. Safari takes the extended desktop to timbuktu. iTunes doesn't like to span the entire display. Do people who have HD 30" displays only see like itunes take up 1% of their display area? I'm going to suggest to Apple they allow itunes to resize window freedom for all mankind! Should I use the osx feedback?
    Cherrs!

well i looked into other media players. no luck. cddb access and altivec importing aiff are nice, i solved this problem by permanently erasing the want in my mind for full screen support, wait what did i just say i don't remember oh i noticed on apple insider that apple is specing a new display interconnect hd interface called udf or something like that. I'm waiting for HD DVD to come out before I buy antother computer or display so I can go hddvd with that technology at that time. I guess at that time I'll drop the money for a 30 in hd display or whatever size they have then. when will lep's or led displays come out to price me nice? epson pringing lcds sounds cool, ok i'm done, hd dvd come soon so I can see all itunes column access thingy last thing hd runs like mud on a 400 mhz g4 (sawtooth) so just for kicks I'll menntion that when hd comes along you'll need a faster cpu to kick the bits, hd dvd for eva peron

  • Mirror and Extended Desktop - Panasonic 42" 720 image cropped

I have my 15.4 macbook pro connected to a Panasonic 42" 720 HDTV via the mini displayport. In both mirror and extended desktop mode, the Panasonic image is cropped off on all four sides. I fooled around with all the resolution settings and nothing changes.
No matter what I do, the menu bar and dock get cropped off by a few pixels. How can I fix this?
    thanks

Right, your TV is overscanning. That's very common. Overscan has been part of what TVs have done for decades.
If your TV is meant to be compatible with computer output, there should be a way to set the screen size using the TV's remote and/or menu system so that computer output just fills the screen. So check you TV's user manual about making a connection to a PC for information about how to get rid of overscan on the TV.

  • T43 Extended Desktop

    Hello,
I am attempting to use the extended desktop feature with my Thinkpad T43 series laptop.  I have an IBM Thinkvision monitor and the Radeon 300 video card, but can't seem to get the darned thing working.
I press FN+F7 and create a profile for the extended desktop, but once I test the settings, the second screen kicks into presentation mode and comes up with an error saying the setting can not be applied properly.  Very strange and very difficult.  If anyone has any ideas, I would be happy to hear them...
    Thanks
    TWM

How about just using the trusty old display properties of window to configure your extended desktop setting????

  • [T60] Use Laptop Screen as Extended Desktop

I have a customer who wants to use her external monitor as the primary, and the laptop screen as the extended desktop. I created a profile in Presentation Director to do this, however every time she reboots she has to go back in an manually apply the scheme. I do have this scheme selected as the default to use when the laptop is docked, that seems to be ignored though.
Any thoughts on how to get the settings to stick through a reboot? Alternately, are there any command line arguments for Presentation Director that I could use to add a command to the startup group and apply the profile that way?
    Thanks!

    Heya,
There is a program out there you can download that will make this possible. It is called "BBScreenStream", not well known, but I use it myself, and it works great. It allows you to see your Blackberry on your computer screen att different ratio settings, and updates the screen at regular intervals. Requires you to have Blackberry Desktop installed, and JL-Commander.
Try it out. Uses USB only.
    Good Luck, and happy holidays.

  • Princeton dual display extended desktop

This is my first apple...I have the G5 quad and I hooked up my two Princeton LCD17 monitors, with the adapters. They both have the apple background screen, but only the right monitor has cursor function, the left is just the blue background w/the info screen on the resolution. I've played around with the resolutions...but to no avail. Are the princeton's compatible for extended desktop? Thanks.

    Good evening!
Maybe I can help. Maybe I can't. But I'll try.
    I have a Princeton 19" VL193 lcd here, and a 15" LG 566LM lcd.
When I turn my system on, it automatically goes into extended mode, giving me my normal 19" view with background and menu's and dock.
The 15" shows a blank screen. So I went into the SYSTEM PREFERENCES under the APPLE menu. In there, go into DISPLAY. Each screen should show it's own resolution settings. I can set each screen's resolution and refresh rate, as well as colors, independently of each other.
On the MAIN screen, there is the option to "mirror" the screens, and then they will show identical images etc.
    That's what you SHOULD see.
If now, there is the option to "DETECT DISPLAYS" on the DISPLAY screen.
So they can run seperate backgrounds / wallpapers, or identical.
Let me know if this helps at all.

  • Can't set up extended desktop in Mavericks

I can't seem to join my two displays (MacBook Air display and external Cinema display) into a single extended desktop. Worked fine in Mountain Lion.
Does anybody have a solution? The onscreen help is no help.

OK ... after logging out and back in, the fix above from captfred worked. That fixed my main problem, in that I can now run Citrix Receiver across both monitors.
New problem ... I think. With the settings changed, when I go to fullscreen mode in an app (such as Safari), it fills up one monitor and the other goes blank, just like they did in Mountain Lion. Anybody else seeing this?
The new problem isn't a huge deal, but I can't believe that Apple didn't make the new fullscreen behavior in Mavericks work regardless of whether a space covers one or two monitors.

  • Dead LCD, Any file I can modify to force Extend Desktop/Mirror?

The LCD has died on my G5 iMac so I have no way to enable Extend Desktop to allow me to continue using the iMac with an external monitor. I still can access the hard drive via the network.
Does anyone know a specific file I could modify to enable Extend Desktop by modifying the file from a computer connected over the network?
    Thanks,

Hope the information did the job. However, be aware that you might also tick off some users that do not like default settings others like. I would suggest you consider your reason to override the user setting is good before you do it. If you really want a full screen view, maybe a landscape mode might be preferred. In that case, I suspect users would not mind the forcing of a full page.
You can also force full screen viewing, but such is confusing to some folks that don't think of hitting the ESC key to get out.

  • Gnome 3 extended Desktop (beamer) and Libreoffice Impress

    Hi,
I've had a nice experience with Gnome 3 and LibreOffice Impress today on work. When I plug in the beamer via VGA the Gnome 3 desktop gets extended and that's fine. But when I want to use Libreoffice Impress in presentation mode, it only shows up on my laptops display. I think this issue is true for flash movies in Firefox as well. Is there any known fix? I guess this is a bug in Libreoffice, since EOG is showing PDF files on the extended desktop in fullscreen mode as it should.
    Tobsen

LibreOffice Impress has the option to specify which display to output its presentation to.  Navigate to "SlideShow" > "Slide Show Settings".  At the bottom of the config window there is a section called "Multiple Displays".  You should be able to specify which display to output the presentation to by selecting one of the displays from the drop-down menu.  More details can be found in the LibreOffice wiki

  • ITunes breaks Airplay extend desktop via Apple TV

Hi there, using my MPBr 15in with Yosemite installed and an Apple TV.
I have been watching photoshop tutorials in an iTunes playlist via extended desktop (Video played on extended desktop on TV, I'm following along with Photoshop on my mac).
I had put my mac on charge and did some things for a while, came back and went to continue my tutorials. But for some unknown reason when I select play in iTunes, instead of just playing on the extended desktop like it was earlier, iTunes quits the extended mode, 'sends' the video to the Apple TV which is a bit of a bumpier process then I'd like. Not to mention it needs to 'buffer' the video each time the next one is played. The worst issue is that the video is zoomed in too far, meaning I cannot see the photoshop tools or the menus along the top and no way to change it (it seems at least). I could forgo the Airplay streaming if it didn't have that issue.
No Apple account is signed in to the Apple TV.
I have tried changing a couple settings in Apple TV (including overscan settings on/off) to no avail. Also changed iTunes setting of Airplay that appears next to the volume slider. No matter what I try when I play the video, extended desktop mode turns off and iTunes streams just the video to Apple TV, also meaning I have to completely disconnect from Apple TV and reconnect again.
So my question is, how do I force iTunes to not use Airplay streaming when I have specifically configured the computer to extend the desktop? I want to extend the desktop!! Using the multiple desktop feature is useful!
Why does it assume I want to stream it independently rather than keep the second desktop?
Why has it done it now, instead of before? I never pressed anything that I know of. It just decided to do it.
If for whatever reason there is no way to turn this auto configuration off, how do I stream the video so it does not cut off the edges?
Thanks in advance. If I figure it out I'll be sure to post what I found here.

Troubleshoot the network, starting with power cycling the ATV and router.

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.

  • I cannot get my iMac to connect to my macbook via Thunderbolt to use my laptop as an extended desktop

I am trying to connect my iMac 21.5" desktop to my macbook pro via Thunderbolt cable so that I can use my laptop as an extended desktop. I have tried using detect displays to get it to show up and nothing happens. I've tried doing command + F2 to make it a targeted display, but the only thing I can get to happen is my iMac will mirror my Macbook and that's not what I want. No matter what I have tried it hasn't worked. I have tried turning both computers off and I have a brand new thunderbolt cable. I've updated all the software. Is there anything else I'm missing??
    I'm running OSX Yosemite 10.10.1
    Thank you !

We've already done all of that. And we used the same thunderbolt cable to connect two iMac's and that worked totally fine doing the Command+ F2. I don't understand why we can't get the macbook to do the same.
