M305-S4910 Microphone Issue

I have the same problem that was described eslewhere on this board.  When I make an internet call (e.g. Skype) the transmitted volume is very low and the signal is very poor quality.  Apparently someone was aware of this as the Toshiba support site directs you to an updated Conexant audio driver (Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 4.36.10.0).  The only problem is that it is impossible to install this driver.  The inability to install this driver was noted in an earlier post:  http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/tshb/board/message?board.id=brd_av&message.id=640.
You would think that if Toshiba got Conexant to update the driver specifically for their machine that they would have at least made sure that it was possible to install the update.  Guess not.  Any help would be appreciated.

So I spoke with Toshiba customer service and here is what they said. The most recent driver for Conexant Audio Drivers Upgrade (4.36.10.0) will not work with Vista 64 bit, only the 32 bit version.  So they directed me to an earlier version of the driver that is 64 bit compatible (4.36.7.0).  I installed this driver successfully but it made no difference to the microphone quality.  As is the microphone is basically unuseable.  The signal to noise ratio is so bad that it simply can't be used.  Still looking for any solutions.

  • M305-S4910 microphone doesn't work with Skype

I have a Satellite M305-S4910 which I bought in April mostly so we could Skype my daughter who is going away to college in Sept. It had Skype factory installed, had Skype stickers, a built-in camera and microphone and 64 bit Vista. However, the built-in microphone is unusable making awful scratchy sounds in Skype. I returned the machine and got another one -- same problem. Since then I have seen other users report the same problem. I have been trying to get this fixed now for months with no results.
It may just need an updated driver. My Conexant audio driver is 4.36.7.0, and there is an update 4.36.10.0 available (since December 2008). But ... it is only available for 32 bit Vista so can't be installed on my machine. I have called Toshiba literally a dozen times and haven't been able to get anyone who could do anything about getting a new version of the driver, or investigating the problem.
Is anyone else having this problem now? Does anyone know how to get Toshiba's attention? Is there some other way to get this problem fixed?
    Thanks, Sherm

That user's problem is different since it affects all microphones -- the one we're discussing here affects only the built-in mic. I believe I have fiddled with all the settings provided for the Conexant mic; none had any discernable effect.
lmastro, if you are getting frustrated you might want to write to the General Manager of Toshiba's laptop-making Digital Products Division. I did that and finally got a response from an intelligent engineer, although no solution yet. The general manager's address is below. You can find his name here: http://laptops.toshiba.com/pressrelease/433653 (I'd post it but when I do the Toshiba moderator edits it out for some mysterious reason). I recommend that you tell him about your attempts to get the problem resolved through normal channels. My experience has been a 5 months-long nightmare so far.

  • Help - Internal Microphone Problem Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910

    Hello,
I really hope someone can help me.  2 days ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910 after reading rave reviews on BestBuy.com.    After attempting to use the internal microphone I discovered the following problem.
When I am on a video chat, it sounds like there is a lot of static on the line.  As soon as I plug in a headset, the sound goes away.  I called best buy for the free 14 day support and they said I have two options.  Bring it in to exchange for a new laptop or PAY for a service person to come troubleshoot it for me.   I have spent the last 3 days transferring files, loading programs, and now I have just about everything set up on this laptop.  I do not want to go EXCHANGE it for a new one and do that all over again.  I can reload software if its something simple like that.  Does anyone have any ideas how I can diagnose and possibly repair myself?  Part of the reason I liked this one is the built in mic and webcam since I video chat A LOT!
    Thanks
    Kristine

    Hi,
Since that the problem goes away with the use of external mic, it is very likely that the internal mic is malfunctioning or maybe a loose wire to the mic is causing the problem. Fixing these yourself means taking the notebook apart and possibly voiding your warranty.

There may be one 'lurking' on the hard drive, but if you can't find it, this is the M300 Series User Guide:

  • M305-S4910 password

My niece has a M305-S4910 laptop.  She set a boot password on it and now has forgotten it.  She hasn't used the laptop for sometime, but, now nees to use it for school.  Is there any way to reset the password?  The computer boots up and goes directly to the screen where it says "Enter Password".  I cannot get into BIOS or any boot menus.
We have tried for hours to try and remmeber the password and no luck.
    Thanks.

yes, you have to remove the battery, hard drive cover, hard drive, RAM cover, and RAM.  Under the bottom RAM stick, you will see a sticker covering the motherboard.  Once that is peeled up, you will see two triangular shaped pads on the PC board.  Place the top RAM stick back in, and set the laptop on it's side so you can plug it in.  Short out those 2 pads using a piece of wire, paperclip, pliars, tweezers, etc.  make sure it only touches the 2 pads and NOTHING ELSE.  Turn on the computer for a few seconds, then turn it back off.  The password will be removed.  It will also reset your time and date.

  • Audio/Microphone Issue - Lumia 920

I suddenly have an audio and microphone issue with my Lumia 920 which I've had for two months.
Regarding the microphone, people are suddenly having a tough time hearing me speak into the phone in conversation.
Regarding the audio, the noise from playing video is working, but I can not hear any music.  The music is running, but no sound.
    Very frustrating problems.
    Thanks for any help.

I think Nokia is taking this issue way too lightly.  It is now a rampant problem with the 920.  People just cannot hear me when I make or receive a call.  I do not have any protective case that would interfere with the microphone function etc.
I have searched the issue - and it is becoming a common problem that people have a hard time hearing you on a call - unless, that is, if you use speaker phone function.
Is Nokia going to address this issue - or keep treating it as a non-issue?  I have requested a replacement from AT&T - but I anticipate the same issue coming up with it.  I would rather not have my phone replaced - especially if Nokia/MS could issue an update that solves this issue.
    Thanks

  • Internal microphone issue NB300

Have recently been using Skype and MSN and everything worked fine.
Then tried to download audio files from dctaphone using microphone socket again seems to work ok.
However now microphone on NB300 barely audible on receiving machines.
Screen surround ultra sensitive and high pitched feedback occasionally.
Have downloaded video downlaods but no significant improvement.
Concerned it may be hardware not software.
Toshiba machine diagnostics dont identify a problem.
Any help appreciated as not too technically minded.
    Iain

Sorry for the delay in responding. Did as you suggested and ensured the settings were as shown on the website address you supplied. I have also restored system to a previous restore point which seems to have fixed the microphone issue but now they cannot receive video stream and video images not seen on my machine. Probably need to do some more tinkering. It is a shame that there is no way to record the system settings at a particular time so that in order to regularise the position you can reset manually.
Any way thank you again for your assistance

  • Toshiba M305-S4910 internet problems

I bought a Toshiba M305-S4910 last night and everything works great but when I tried to exit out of my internet explorer 7 several new screens of the internet would open.  Everytime I tried to close one, like 10 more would open.  the only way I knew how to correct this was to totally log off because they just kept popping up.  It happened like three or four times last night.  I have a Belkin wireless G router and was using that as my internet signal.  I have used this before with my work laptops and have never had this problem.  I really don't want to have to take this in to the store so any help would be appreciated.

Stop visiting shady websites and use a popup blocker.
This is not a problem with the machine, it's a problem of the website you're visiting (and to a lesser degree, IE in general on ANY machine).  Many "less reputable" websites will spawn popup ads, AND those popups will spawn more popups when you try to click out of them.
Mozilla Firefox has a built-in popup blocker that should be sufficient.  It's also, in general, more secure than IE.

  • Microphone issue

I have a MacBook Pro and can't get my microphone to work on the audio port. I go to Preferences and choose the audio port to work for sound input, but it doesn't do it. It only works picks up sound through the internal microphone. Can anyone advise me?

    Hi CosminCl,
Before trying to answer your question, I would like to know if Lumia 925 mic does not work is a consumer issue or a developer issue.
We should be able to give some suggestions here if its developing issue.
If its the consumer issue, I would suggest you ask at community site:

  • Odd microphone issue with headphone jack

Well, I really have two issues involving the headphone jack.  One is when I plug the headphone in the volume will occasionally drop to zero and then no longer go up past 0.  A power off fixes this.
A second thing I discovered is that sometimes the microphone does not work after plugging in my headphones.  I fist noticed this when I was trying to use the speakerphone in my car with the line out through my stereo.  I thought that was by design at first.  However, I started using voice control and I noticed that the the microphone was not picking up any sound.  I could tell this because of the visual waveform display.  If I uplug and replug the microphone may start to work.
This happens fairly frequently but enough to make speakerphone use and voice control rather unreliable.

Yes, it has done it through resets.  It seems to happen about 1/2 the time I plug the line out in.  They tried to tell me at the store that it was my car trying to control the audio.  Then I tried to explain it's a simple stero jack plug.
However, if it keeps up I can go to the service center and get an exchange.  I'm going to try and report the issue to Nokia first in case it is firmware related.

  • Using third party headset with Retina Macbook Pro (microphone issue)

    Good day, everyone!
I have very strange issue with my Retina Macbook Pro (Late 2013) OS X 10.9.3
When I plug in my Steel Series Headset, its microphone not recognised by system and only "Internal microphone" available in Settings - Sound - Input.
Headset itself works perfectly fine, because when I plug it to my iPhone, its microphone works without any problems.
Macbook's headphone port also works fine — when I plug in my iPhone original headset to Macbook, its mic works good and I can see "External microphone" in Settings - Sound - Input.
So headset is ok and headphone port is ok. What is the problem?
How to force macbook to use headset microphone instead of built-in one?
    Thanks in advance

Either contact the sales staff at the store where you ordered your Mac from or contact the speaker manufacturer & ask them.

  • Microphone Issue using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5

I have also posted this at the Adobe forums. I'm just hoping someone, somewhere can help.
I am a recent convert from Final Cut to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, mainly so I can start burning to blu-ray. I am finding the switch a frustrating experience. The latest issue I have is with audio recording. I have an external firewire mic set up that worked flawlessly with Final Cut for two years for recording commentary tracks. Yesterday, I tried recording a commentary track in Premiere Pro, and it worked fine for about an hour, at which point it suddenly stopped. Now I can only reocrd about 6 seconds of audio before it stops recording, and repeated attempts result in a "serious error" and Premiere crashing.
I have searched everywhere and tried everything I can think of. Restarted Premiere. Uninstalled/reinstalled premiere. Shut down/unplugged/replugged in C-1 microphone. Updated software. Restarted iMac. Nothing works. I am out of things to try, and hoping someone here might have a suggestion. I have tried using the iMac's internal microphone just as a test (since the quality of the recording would be unusuable for my purposes) and Premiere won't even use that for the six seconds it will the C-1.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

So, just in case anyone else is wondering, we never did solve this issue. However, we upgraded Soundbooth to Audition, and were able to move the project there and finish the commentary track. So, that's a workaround, anyway. (A workaround that did not work in Soundbooth).
