M30X-125 cooling fan is running very often if USB device is connected

Hello,
I have used USB devices with my M30X-125 for a few months and noticed that as soon as I connect a USB mouse or printer with external power supply the fan cooling works very often. With no USB device the fan cooling is very "quiet".
I updated the BIOS with the last 1.90 release and changed parameters (reduce processor speed) of the Power Management Utility. No effect on this fan cooling issue.
Can you help me please to limit fan cooling work with USB device connected?
Regards

Hi Phil
I agree with you but I believe that it is not easy to make a optimum there. If you check other notebooks from different producers the cooling vents are not so quiet. Like you know the units are designed to be small and a lot of hardware is placed at small place. The warmness is very high especially if the CPU activity is high and the units must be cooled before the hardware can be damaged.
I have tested cooling method intensively with my unit (Tecra M1) and if the cooling method and CPU activity is set to lower level the unit doesnt run like I want. Because of that I can live with sporadically running cooling fan but the performance is fantastic and all running processes flow smoothly.

  • Qosmio F30-112: cooling fan is running very fast

    Hi,
I want to ask somebody thier, my laptop qosmio F30 -112 recently every time i start my computer i heard that the cooling fan is running very fast (i mean) it wasn't stop unlike before its running smooth only i heard it when i playing games but not continuous, then after that my computer now running slow.
Somebody can help me what im going to do?
    thanks: rtmasagca

    Hi
F30 is a little bit older notebook series I think about 3 years old or older... did you clean the cooling modules in the meantime?
I think there is a lot of dust and debris inside the notebook and I think this prevents the air from circulation and therefore the fans run faster.
Try compressed air spray this should help to remove dust and debris.
    Good luck

So, they sent me another toshiba a660 but this time I heard fun all the time. Of course from time to time it got louder even when I did nothing on it. • Satellite C660 - Fan is launching very often

    Hi
I am using Toshiba C660 laptop. I noticed, that fan is launching very often (temperature is 45-52 C ). I have tried to change "Toshiba Power Saver Settings V8.9.4.64" to "Battery optimized" in "Advanced power settings" but this didn't helps. I updated my BIOS to 1.80 version but it did't helps, too. When will be the new BIOS for this model?

    Hello
Please dont understand me wrong but fan acitivy will be controlled automatically and is depending on CPU temperature. The fan will always start if CPU is running on high temperature to protect the hardware. So its normal.
What you can do after some months is cleaning the cooling system as described here:

  • Cooling fans constantly run @ full speed after replacing the upper CPU??

After replacing the upper CPU on a Power Mac G5 (June 2004), Dual 1.8Ghz PowerPC, model M9454LL/A, all the cooling fans constantly run at full speed. All other operations are normal.
I've read, "...after replacing or switching CPU locations the Logic Board doesn't properly recognize the CPU's in their new location and a "Thermal Calibration" is needed". Could a "Thermal Calibration" possibly correct the constant full fan speed issue?
    What software would be required?

    Hi-
Could a "Thermal Calibration" possibly correct the constant full fan speed issue?
    Yes.
    What software would be required?
The Apple Service Diagnostic disc (ASD) of the proper version for your machine.
Call an authorized Apple service provider and arrange a calibration, as the disc is not readily available to individuals.

  • My fan is running very loud

My fan is running very loud...Not sure what the problem is..Does anyone have any suggestions?

If it is your fan, the cpu is working very hard.
    1. check with Applications/utilities/Activity Monitor, <all processes> , click the %cpu column, what process is running more than 50%?
    2. install the widget iStatPro (free), clik the Dashboard: iStatPro will let you see the CPU usage, the temperatures, and the fanspeeds.
If there is a process that is "eating" the cpu, in activity monitor you can quit that process. Check in System Preferences/Accounts   Login Items tab, if it is there, delete it there. Restart the system.

  • HP Spectre XT 13-2005tu - Cooling Fan Countiniously Running At Top Speed From Start Up

Ok, Here's a puzzler if anyone can help. HP Spectre XT 13-2005tui7-3517U @ 1.90Ghz4.00 GB Ram256 SSD HD Has been a great laptop, very happy with it, small light powerful, etc, good battery life, everything I needed as student and as someone who travels a lot for work. Towards the end of 2014  the hinges on the screen gave out. Outside of the warranty period HP were kind enough to fix it, however this didnt get completed until approximately Feb 2015 - when I returned from travelling. At the time they gave it a full service - cleaned it up, updated bios, replaced fan. The cooling fan was replaced as they claimed it was noisy, but to be honest I had never noticed it. As soon as I took it home, the fan went crazy. From the moment the power button was pressed it would run flat out and non-stop. Sometime it would change from flat out to nothing every two seconds for 5 minutes - I took a video of this at the time. I had planned to take it back to the service centre but after a few hours it returned to normal. There were no problems for a while, every now and again it would startup and run flat out constantly for an hour or so but would always go back to normal. A couple of days ago it started this again but just won't stop. The moment the button is pressed it is running flat out until the moment it goes to sleep or is turned off. It has also started with the occasinoal intermittent 'running flat out, then slowing down then flat out then slowing down' continiously over about 5 mins (I took a small video of this as well - https://youtu.be/P2ybdunCZf8). I have: - Updated anything and everything. - Formatted the pc and reinstalled windows. - Rolled back and reinstalled the bios. - Made sure the bios setting to constantly run the fan was off. - Checked that the fan was sqeaky clean. - Installed and monitored temps with HW Monitor - fans run flat out at any CPU temp. - Ran HP system diagnostics that show no errors. - Tried hard resets. - Also checked the CPU usage - fan runs at high speed whether 5% or 95% is being used. - Tried different power settings and changing the CPU Cooling policy within the power settings. I am out of ideas. I have a feeling it might be a hardware fault and that I'm doomed but I am keen to know if anyone else has any thoughts, and espeically if there is anything HP can do or recommend. Cheers

Hi , Thank you for your query.   I understand that you had the display replaced by HP as it quit due to a hinge issue.  When you got it back after  they had done  full service - cleaned it up, updated bios, replaced fan. The cooling fan was replaced as they claimed it was noisy, but to be honest you had never noticed it. As soon as you took it home and powered it on the fan went crazy, running at full speed non stop.  The speed sometimes would change from full to nothing every 2-5 minutes. After a few hours it seemed to settle down and work normally.Occasionally the issue would return for a hour but then return to normal.A couple of days ago the issue returned but now remains constant. Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal. As this did start  just after the repair, I would contact HP support, explain the issues  and get  your options if the above has not helped. Please contact HP support at Contact HP Support.  To say thanks for replying please click the thumbs up icon below. If this fixed your issue, be sure to let people know by choosing solution provided.  Best of Luck!!

  • My Macbook Fan Is Running Very Loud...

My fan has been running very loud for the past week and I'm not sure whats wrong with it.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If the fan is working all the time, it looks like a sensor problem.
Run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Plug the MacBook Pro to its charger, choose your language, tick the box to run an extended test and start the test. If at the end of the test you see an error, copy it here.
It's probable that this is a sensor problem, but if the problem doesn't happen during startup, it would be a process which is consuming your CPU. Open Activity Monitor, select "All Processes" above "Show" in the toolbar, and order processes by CPU. Do you see any process which is consuming more CPU than the others?

  • I turned on my 2011 IMac and the fan is running very loud.  What is the problem?

Please help me figure out why my fan is running so loud after turning it on tonight.  I have shut it down and turned it on again and rebooted it and it is very loud.
    Thank you.

    timfrombrisbane and ScuseMe are right.
Apple engineers say, that to reset SMC, you follow the procedure outlined in KBase Article HT1379.
How much you've posted to the forums is irrelevant rkaufmann87. You're not one of the engineers who created the product.  The engineers who created the product, say to follow the steps outlined in that article HT1379.
The procedure you listed is incorrect and will not work to reset SMC on an iMac. Read the article. It's there in black and white, with very clear steps. As the article states, you have to unplug the power cable from the back of the machine, wait 15 seconds, plug it back in, then wait 5 seconds before turning it on. The article says nothing about holding the power button for 5 seconds.
People come in here, for computer science advice. I cited my source, for this scientific procedure. My source, is an article from the computer scientists who created the iMac product. I'm also an Apple certified repair technician - so I listen to what the Apple engineers say.
Can you cite your *official* source for your incorrect procedure? Didn't think so.

  • NEW 3 week old HP Pavilion dv6, cooling fan always running

Hi the cooling fan in this laptop always seems to be running fast enough to be irritating, it was like this out of the box, other laptops I have had usually only run the fan during periods of heavy CPU usage but this one is running fast all the time. Any ideas, and dust in the vents is not the problem, BIOS ?

I also have the same problem. 8 month old HP Pavillion DV6. Bios updated and air vents cleaned. Fan runs constantly even without any load on pc'n.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures and fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even then, the fan seems to run almost constantly, plus the standard setting for Bios is to have fan runing constantly enabled. Would be greatful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searcing for solutions on the Web.

  • Cooling fan not running

The fan isn't running so the emac is getting a bit warm.
I've given the fan 12 volts and it runs.
Are there any software settings I should be looking at?
If there is a hardware fault, is there a problem with running a 12V supply direct to the fan?
I don't really want to get any deeper into the entrails.

Did this start after the logic board replacement? If so, you should visit the shop and let them know they failed to connect something.
As far as I know, the PPC desktop Macs do not have a user-changeable software fan control. There are probably some third-party utilities that might to it.
We have two eMacs--one 1Gen 700mhz and one 2Gen 1.42Ghz representing the first and last models--and neither seem to adjust fan speed during operation, suggesting that they do not have a temp controlled fan like the PowerBook G4 notebooks.

  • Satellite A660 - cooling fan is running too slow

    Hello,
    i own TOSHIBA Satellite A660-10X
the problem is that fan is going slow (when notebook starts its going much faster than slows down). Problem is that the notebook is overheating and than it shuts down without any warning. I work on it and need to be reliable.
I've tried power management but there is only "batery optimized" or "maximum" but on maximum it is not going max for sure.
Is there any way to check Fan speed ? I tried several aplications to see Fan speed but they wont work.
And I never found Fan in BIOS.

    Hi buddy,
    > I cannot disassamble the bottom because there is no guide how to do that
Yes because such technical manuals are not for public. Only authorized service providers and Toshiba itself have such technical manuals. Furthermore if you disassemble the whole notebook you will lose the warranty.
    > Also i dont know if its normal but in back cover the round part doesnt have holes
You dont need holes directly under the fan. There is already a discussion about this question:
[Satellite A660-11M - Ventilation holes on body |http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=58398]
I think you should take the notebook to an authorized service provider for professional cleaning. Probably the thermal grease must be renewed too.
You can find a list here:

  • MacBook fan running very loudly

I have been having issues with my MacBook overheating and causing the fan to run very loudly (so loudly I can't listen to music or watch videos on it very well). I have had the motherboard replaced twice this year alone by Apple and I still have coverage till November of this year. They told me if I keep it on a flat surface (like a desk), the problem shouldn't keep happening. More times than none, I only have one application running like Safari or Firefox with only one page open and still the computer is incredibly loud. Any suggestions? I really do not want to take it out to a retail store again unless I can get a new MacBook out of it since it'll be the third time the motherboard has been replaced.

Hi Brandon: This is a shot in the dark, but check out the troubleshooting tips in the Apple article below.

  • Satellite A215-S4757 - Battery life and cooling fan issue

    Hello everybody,
I would like to ask a few questions abou my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?
I have my laptop since august last year and I think it shouldn't be a problem of dust, because it is too "young" for that and I don't live in a "dusty" appartment...
Anyway, I think the "almost allways running fan" problem appeared about 2 months after I purchased the notebook. I have installed "Speedfan" and I see "HD0" temperature is increasing from about 30deg immediately after I start the laptop, to about 39deg after 1 hour.
But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behaviour normal???
Is the core temperature of 45-50deg normal? I am just using my laptop for Internet browsing, e-mails, etc., no complex 3d games!
The second thing is that the battery life is (and was from the beginning) not spectacular: it lasts max. 1,5 hours with wireless on, but normal use of laptop (not playing dvd's or something like this). Is this normal? If yes, is it because of the amd turion 64x2 processors?
Please help me with some advices / opinions.
P.S. I've bought my Toshiba as I was on trip in USA (NY).
Thank you very much in advance.
    Conrad

    > I would like to ask a few questions about my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?
Im an owner of a Satellite A210. Its similar to the A215. The A210 is a European model and the A215 belongs to the US notebook series.
I have noticed the same on my A210 and I think its normal behavior.
    > But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behavior normal???
The CPU temperature of 40-60deg is nothing unusual.
The temperature could arise up to 70-80degrees while playing a game. So dont worry about the temperature.
The cooling modules are controlled by BIOS. The fan table is stored in the BIOS and it contains informations about temperature limits and the cooling usage.
If a certain temperature level was reached the cooling module starts to rotate with a certain speed.
Now I would like to say something about the notebooks battery life time
Generally the battery life time depends on the notebooks usage.
While playing games or watching movies the battery would discharge much faster.
Anyway, your notebook was equipped with high-performance devices and as far as I know the Vista was preinstalled on this series. Both factors (high performance devices CPU and GPU) + Vista OS need a lot of battery power. Vista needs more notebook resources as the Win XP and therefore notebooks with Vista OS run shorter on battery as the notebooks with preinstalled Win XP.
Last but not least you have to know that there are different battery models A stronger battery with higher *mA* value would help to run the notebook longer using the battery power.
Hope I could clarify this question.
