M40-145 DVD-RW drive - low recording speed

My recorder's speed is lower than announced for the model. I have a MATSU****A 831s witch shoul record DVD at 8x, but the maximum speed Im obtaining is 2x, independently from brand, type or quality of DVD-R/+R/-+RW/DL. I updated firmware, changed burning software (Nero 6, 7, Pinnacla, Sonic) but nothing worked.
If there's any solution, I'd like to know the answer. If not, I'll activate my warranty service with Toshiba, hoping I'll get a different drive, for as much as I've been informed, the Matsu****a isn't the best burner...

  • Satellite M40-145: CD/DVD drive won't read some DVDs

    Hello!
    I own a Satellite M40-145 purchased just over one year ago; the DVD driver worked perfectly until three days ago, but today I discovered something... peculiar. It still reads commercial DVDs and burned DVD+R, but apparently it doesn't read burned DVD-Rs anymore. I have tried with different DVD-Rs I burned through the same DVD player, with no success; trying to access the DVD yields a "insert disk in D: drive" message.
    In this case, I'm talking about movies on DVDs. Please tell me there's a way to solve this without sending the computer to customer service...
    I'd hate to think it broke down just days after the expiration date of the warranty.

    Hi
    Well, you can try to remove the drive form the device manger.
    After new reboot the drive should be recognized again. Check then if its possible to read the DVD-R CD.
    But the issue sounds as a lens calibration error. If you use different media the lens must be calibrated again. But if this procedure fails, the drive is not able to read or write the DVD for example.
    Unfortunately, in such cases only the drive replacement will solve this issue.

  • Satellite M100 - DVD-Multi-Drive not recognized as CD/DVD recorder (!)

    Hello,
    after installing Win XP SP3 in the last windows update, the Toshiba tools as well as other CD/DVD-burning software don't recognize the DVD-ram drive as such, only as a CD-rom-drive.
    Thus, software like recordIt doesn't work.
    I have already removed the drive from the hardware list and have reinstalled it.
    The driver used is "Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-841S"
    That is correct, so far. But it doesn't burning CDs/DVDs.
    Has anyone noticed this problem as well?
    Thanks.
    Bjoern

    Hi
    I think its a lower upper filter issue and I think you could solve this following this step by step instruction.
    First of all remove the ODD (CD/DVD) drive from the list in device manager.
    Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    Finally you should reboot the unit.
    After that windows will recognize the ODD again

  • Satellite L300-H02: DVD/CD drive don't work - Error message 39

    Hi all,
    I just purchased a Toshiba Laptop, running Vista Premium Home Edition, and after a massive Windows update download, the DVD-CD drive didnt work. Error message 39, corrupt or missing driver. The driver isnt missing, so it must be corrupt. Am savvy with regedit regarding removal of upper and lower filters from the registry, except havent action the removal yet, as there doesnt appear to be an upper filter listed. Only the lower filter.
    Also, the information states you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall any affected programs. which is a problem, as Vista etc. was already loaded and no other software came with the laptop.
    Im a little chicken to go ahead and remove the lower filter registry entry, seeing as theres no upper entry to delete, plus I've heard some people can't write to CD after removing the filters in the registry.
    Where can I get information on the CD-rom drive for this model: pslboa-08h022 ?
    There isn't any information on it in the System Information.
    Thanks in advance folks, Anniebird

    Thanks andrej, I appreciate your help.
    This seems to be the only solution I've been able to track down, although I was looking for a better one. I rang Toshiba support, and they said Toshiba could not be held responsible for any advice followed on the Windows website.
    If the filters aren't necessary to the running of the DVD drive, why are they there? I don't want an impaired DVD-OM drive that is unable to function in writing mode.
    Toshiba phone support said to remove the hardware from the Device Manager (CD-Rom Drive with ! displayed), then download a new driver from: http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au/drivers
    I have a feeling this driver is already on my computer, but will follow through with his advice. If this doesn't work, he said the only other thing to do would be a system restore. Which means reinstalling ALL the programs and files I so laboriously installed a few days ago.
    I only purchased this notebook on the 11th September!!! I am fast becoming disillusioned with both Toshiba and Windows Vista. I want a first rate product functioning as it should, not a headache to be endured.

  • Equium L10 needs a driver for DVD-RAM drive

    It's rather embarrassing, but in recent days I've come to find that somehow, the driver for my DVD RAM (Mat****a UJ830s) is somehow corrupt or missing.
    I've searched high and low over the net to find the right driver to reinstall, but I can't find a single thing.
    Don't suppose anyone can help?

    Do you mean the simply common driver for the Mat****a UJ830s?
    Usually the windows use the common Microsoft OS driver and usually you will not find an Toshiba driver for this device.
    Ok, on the page you will find an DVD-RAM but its only for the reading and writing of the DVD-RAM medias.

  • DVD-R drive compatabillity list?

    I want to add a DVD-R drive to my G4. The only ones I see people talking about here are the Pioneers. I would like one with Lightscribe, which the Pioneers do not have. Can I use any IDE/ATA DVD-R? I'm assuming that some DVD-Rs won;t work with the iMovie, etc. Is there a Compatabillity list? I'm looking, but haven't found anything.

    I am currently looking at a Pioneer EXTERNAL USB 2.0+PIONEER DVR111D 16X DVD±RW DUAL Layer and having a hard time trying to see if this will work on my Mac , any ideas?
    Overviews:
    Pioneer launches its new 11th Generation dual format DVD writer the DVR-111D. This new model supports 8x Dual/Double Layer and 16x write speeds on both DVD-R/+R media. This extends Pioneer's track record of establishing key performance benchmarks when introducing new DVD writers. With the facility to write 4.7GB of data to write-once media or store up to 8.5GB on Double Layer media. The successor of the popular DVR-110 series, the DVR-111 / DVR-111D DVD burners from Pioneer are expected to be released in Europe soon after mid-March. The device writes a full DVD disc in less than six minutes.
    In short, there are two main differences between the DVR-111/111D and its former version the DVR-110/110D. In the first place, the upper chassis has been redesigned in order to further reduce noise vibration from the drive.
    The DVR-111D adopts 5X reading for DVD-RAM, whereas the DVR-110D would only read DVD-RAM at 2X speed.
    Finally, the DVR-111 still remains at a 5X speed for read / write with DVD-RAM which is the same as the DVR-110.
    Pioneer also plans to launch a retail version of the DVR-111 series, dubbed the DVR-A11XL (XLA = beige, XLB = black, XLC = silver). It is likely that Pioneer USA, China, Australia and Japan will be introducing the DVR-A11XL (retail version) possibly at the same time, although Pioneer Europe had decided to stop its retail drive business since the DVR-A08XL. Both the DVR-111 and DVR-111D drives will be OEM/bulk versions, which means that they will come as bare drives only with no retail box and software

  • Unable to alternate internal DVD RW drive for external DVD driv

    Hi,
    Please call me Yogie.
    I have a G4 computer issue.
    I have a Mac computer (G4-500mhz dual) with a Pioneer super drive. It has failed, to the point where it won't read dvd's. I've purchased an external dvd-cd burner (lacie) and when I want to record photos from Idvd, the Pioneer super drive tray will open for dvd insertion, but doesn't recognize the dvd. I need to override the Pioneer superdrive, so I can use the Lacie dvd rw drive. How can I do that ?
    Thanks

    Hi Yogie:
    Welcome to discussions!
    How is that LaCie drive formatted? You must use HFS+ to store iMovie files, not FAT32(DOS) or Unix.
    Connect the external drive and then launch Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities). You'll see your external drive in Disk Utility's side bar; select it and then click the Erase tab at the top. From the Volume Format menu select which type of formatting you want (most likely Mac OS Extended-Journaled) and then click the oval Erase button at the lower right.

    It's probable that the CD 'side' of the combo drive has failed.  That you cannot boot from the recovery CD is pretty much proof of the failure.

  • DVD-Rom drive in Satellite C655-S5128 not working properly in Windows 8

    I recently upgraded my system from Windows 7 to Windows 8. However, the DVD-Rom drive after the upgrade no longer works properly -- it now treats the pre-recorded disk as if it was completely blank. I tried reinstalling the Toshiba Disc Creator, but that did not work.

  • Solution for  CD DVD Matshita driver or other with Vista and itunes

    Hi all,
    I searched the answers everywhere, all around the websites. The problem was always there. If I didn't have the error message in itunes my dvd-cd driver was wrong and if I change the parameters in registry, my dvd-cd driver worked correctly in windows but not in itunes. I have a Matshita cd drive and Vista.
    After 8 months, I found the solution yesterday. I did the changes and WOW all is OK now. Believe me, this is THE SOLUTION and I'm very happy.
    You must do the changes the registy with regedit (see other answers for the upperfilters in registry) but after this change it is VERY IMPORTANT that you follow this ...
    Go to this website and follow the instructions for the file AFS driver or read the complete solution.
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=CD/DVDdrives_disappear_after_installingiTunes
    Here the complete explanation:
    Summary:
    After installing a GEAR Software or a GEARWorks GEAR Powered Product (such as Apple iTunes and Norton Ghost) on Vista, the CD/DVD drives disappear in Windows Explorer and the installed software is unable to detect any CD/DVD drives on the system.
    Discussion:
    After investigating this issue, we have determined that the issue is being caused by the presence of the Audio File System (AFS) driver from Oak Technologies.
    The AFS driver adds CD recording functionality to certain versions of the following software:
    * HP Memories Disc Creator
    * Liquid Audio
    * Portal Player
    * Oak Technology SimpliCD
    * Broderbund's Print Shop version 20
    It appears that the AFS driver does not meet Windows Vista driver signing requirements and thus is not compatible with Vista. As a result, the AFS driver prevents the GEARAspiWDM.sys driver from functioning correctly resulting in CD/DVD drives ‘disappearing’ in Windows Explorer and applications using the GEARworks API, such as Apple iTunes and Norton Ghost.
    Solution:
    Disabling the AFS driver appears to resolve the issue.
    This can be done by renaming the afs.sys driver file in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory to afs.txt and rebooting the system. After the reboot the CD/DVD drives should re-appear in Windows Explorer and be available in GEAR and GEARworks powered product (such as Apple iTunes and Norton Ghost).
    Note that disabling the AFS driver may result in the loss of the CD recording functionality in the above mentioned software that uses the AFS driver.

    Are you able to even edit the registry key? The problem I had -- and many others, I've learned -- is that for some reason iTunes and/or QT locks down certain critical registry keys. So even if I'm logged on as an admin I can't change them.
    I posted a possible solution -- at least it worked for me:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1358116
    Good luck!

  • DVD RW drive not reading discs

    Hey guys, I have a G61-210CA (HP Laptop) and the DVD RW drive no longers reads discs.  I have tried running the Mr Fix it tool which could not repair the problem.  I have tried uninstalling device from device manager and reinstalling it.  I have removed the upper and lower limits in an effort to solve the problem.  I am still having the same issue.  When I put in a disc it does not recognize disc.  The light comes on and the drive spins, it is just unable to read it.  Any suggestions?

    Thank u so much.

    The upper and lower filter thing only applies if the drive is not showing up at all in the Device Manager. If it appears as a drive and will perform any function at all, then it is likely a hardware issue. One way you can be sure is to try to boot from a bootable DVD such as a Windows 7 install Disk. If the computer will not boot from such a disk then it is apparent the hardware is defective, not the Windows software because the problem exists even before Windows loads.
    The drive has multiple lasers and it is possible for one to go out but not the others.  The drive is easily replaced. See below:
    This eBay seller ships worldwide. You would have to transplant your plastic drive face but that is very easy to do:

  • CDRW/DVD Rom drive disabled by Panther

    Looks like same problem as dozens of others, but no answers. After upgrading to 10.3.9 the Sony CRX820E is hiding. Toast titanium says "no CD Recorder found" CD's show up in finder but not DVD's. (it is a DVD Rom drive)
    Anyone find a fix for this recurring problem or do we just write it off to "progress"?

    The entire computer is 6 years old almost 7, and it worked fine until recently.
    Maybe its to do with the new power supply I put in, I put a 750 watt power supply in to replace my 250 watt, because I recently got a new graphics card.
    the power supply is plugged in correctly, and my system tells me the drive is there, it just won't read DVD discs.
    I'll give a run down of how putting the new power supply in went:
    1) I found out that the plug I would need for my floppy drive was required by my new graphics card, so I took the IDE cable out of the Floppy drive and motherboard, and plugged the power supplies plug into the graphics card.
    2) After a problem with my computer not being able to find either the DVD Writer or CD drives, I found the problem was a loose IDE cable, which I promptly put back in place, then my computer was able to find the drives.
    3) Afterwards I changed my BIOS a little, I changed it so it wouldn't try to find a Floppy drive, and changed the sequence of booting the system from having the floppy drive boot first to the DVD/CD drives boot first.
    4) I started up my system and popped in a disc for a game, 3 different times the drive refused to work, 3 different times I found a solution that got it to read the disc, then afterwards if I put a different disc in it wouldn't work, and the fix wouldn't work a second time.
    I hope this helps answer me, but here is another question. Can a device be plugged in to any IDE port on the motherboard? If so, is it possible using the IDE cable to plug the DVD drive into the port the Floppy drive was plugged into might help?
