M40 won't power up on battery

My M40-225 Satellite won't power up on the battery. When the power-up button is depressed, the surround to the power-up button displays as blue, then everything goes dead.
When AC adaptor is plugged in,the compute powers up normally, "battery remaining" is given as 100% in TOSHIBA power saver settings, and the Battery light indicator at front of computer displays as blue.So the battery appears charged.
I've had the computer for just a few weeks. Power up on battery worked fine until recently and I can't think of any reason for the change.
I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks. Mike.

Hi
As far as I know if both parts (Battery and AC Adaptor) are plugged to the unit this can damage the battery or decrease the battery life. You should always remove the battery from the notebook if the Ac is plugged.
In your case I propose to remove the battery from the unit for a short time .
But in my opinion if it doesnt help I assume that its something wrong with the power electronic.
In this case your notebook needs a services.
Bye

  • Chromebook 14 won't power up from battery

I have had my Chromebook 14 for 2 months. It will only power on when the power chord is plugged in. In the bottom right corner it says it's charging but stays at 1% and if you remove the power chord after leaving it for hours the Chromebook won't turn on.
There is zero helpful info about HP Chromebooks anywhere on the website. The only thread I could find with help directed people to a battery checking page. Everything on that page is specific to Windows machines and can't do anything. I really feel lost here as I've never had a piece of technology with zero support and no way to get help. Can someone please help me figure out how to warranty this thing? I know the battery is dead but the HP site feels like they prefer I just give up out of frustration.

    Hello commercialscott,
I see that the battery in your Chromebook is not charging. I will try to help you with this.
For this I will refer you to this Google Chromebook troubleshooter: Fix hardware and system issues. If you go through the steps it provides and are directed to contact the manufacture. Here is the information to do so.

  • T61p won't power up from battery - very strange problem

A couple of days ago I put my computer into hibernation as normal - half an hour later I noticed that my bag was very warm and discovered the computer had turned itself on again. I experimented a couple of times and found that even when I shut down the computer, when I shut the lid, or just randomly, it would turn itself on again. This problem seems to have disappeared after a day, but now I cannot power up the laptop from the battery, only from the ac cable. The battery is working fine - if I disconnect the ac cable after the computer has turned on then it continues to work, and the battery is only a few months old.
Any help would be very much appreciated - I am pretty much baffled by this.

  • Won't power up after battery is drained - edit SOLVED ITSELF?!

    Hi there,
The battery was fully drained on my Playbook (running OS2).  When I plug it into the PB charger, the red LED turns on for 17 seconds and then turns off and nothing else happens.  I have left it charging over night, but it's not warm anywhere indicating that nothing happened with the battery.  Holding the Power button for 20 seconds has no effect.  Please help!

  • Satellite P10-304 Won't power up now

    Hello,
Got Satellite P10-304 machine which won't power up after 2nd attempt. What happened:-
Machine powered up from cold start - booted up Window XP ok. After 5 -10 minutes, machine screen went dimmed (looks like backlight have gone) and couldn't power off machine by pressing power button, so had to remove the battery pack to kill the power into machine.
Now, machine won't power up (even battery pack fully charged), When I pressed the power button, I do get a orange light flashed once inside the blue light circle area around power button.
Leave machine powered off for about 1 hour and machine started up in BIOS screen and then after 3 mins screen went dimmed again. Machine won't start up again! Checked AC adaptor and getting 19.3Volts and 6.1Amp so power supply unit ok.
Sounds like the motherboard is playing up and needs replacing? Dose anyone come across this problem before?
    Many thanks

    Hello
    > Sounds like the motherboard is playing up and needs replacing?
    Yes, it seems so :(
Maybe its not the mainboard but another hardware part. But to be honest you should go to an authorized service provider. The technicians can check the notebook to determine what is exactly wrong.

  • My kid just got an iPod 5th gen (today from Santa) and it won't power up or charge. The only response is when I connect the USB and press the power button or front button the Battery appears with red line and lightning symbol. No other response at all.

Sorry about the long title.....its my first post.
My kid just got a brand new iPod 5th generation (today from Santa) and it won't power up or charge. The only response is when I connect the USB and press the power button or front button the Battery appears with red line on left and lightning symbol below. There is no other response at all no matter what I do, including holding both buttons down for extended period.  My other kid got one and it works perfectly.....I have interchanged usb cables ports etc. but still no response....I would really appreciate any help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem with the iPod. This is because as you said the same cable works with another iPod.

  • IPhone won't power on or show battery icon after discharge.

My iPhone4 ran out of battery.  I plugged as soon as I could after it ran out (within 15 mins) and charged it overnight.  It won't power on this morning and does not show the charged battery icon on the screen.  The phone is only 4.5 months old and has never been left in a car or extreme heat.  I always let the bettery run down to <10% before charging and then charge back to full capacity.   I have tried holding down the home key and the sleep/wake buttons individually and together and nothing.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.  I had tried to connect it to the computer on my own and found out that my version of iTunes must  be too old to talk to my iPhone4.  I am still running 10.4.11 on my PowerBook G4 which uses an older version of iTunes.  I don't use the music feature on my phone to conserve my battery for Apps and other features I really like and leave the music to my Shuffle.  Guess I am really lucky it doesn't work as I would hate to loose my photos of my new grandson.  I need to find a quick way to send them to backup storage.
When I disconnected after trying the computer and tried your suggestion of holding it until I saw the symbol, it finally worked.  Guess I did not hold them both together for long enough.  The battery only shows 31% even though it was on wall charger all night.  I will use it as is today and charge it overnight again to see if it gets a full charge.

  • Won't power on after checking battery for exchange program

This is so silly its not even funny.
I simply shutdown my 12" 1.5Ghz power book. Took the battery out to read the serial number, which by the way is one of the faulty ones. Then put it back in and now it won't power on.
Pressing the power button does nothing. Battery is fully charged, with AC connected it has the green light. Trying to power on with only battery, only AC has no effect. Resetting PMU, NVRAM unsuccessful.
Help! What could have possibly happened?
The warranty expired in May but I'm confident if I didnt have to check the battery I wouldn't be facing this problem. Do you think Apple will take pity on me?

If I have the battery out, if I hold the power button then when I plug in the AC I hear something like a capacitor discharging for about 2 seconds. Kinda like something spinning down.
    Ring any bells?

  • My computer won't power up at all. Battery fully charged. Nothing but black screen.

I tried to use my Mac Book this morning and it won't power up. The battery is fully charged but the screen stays black. Any ideas?

  • Adaptor won't power my PB: the battery is running out!

I was wondering if anyone found a solution to the problem below that I found in this forum. I am having the same problem and don't know what to do. Just wish that this wasn't an internal problem.
    ========================================================
I've got a 1.33Ghz PowerBook G4 15" and I am having problems with the AC adaptor.
When I plug the adaptor in, the light on the adaptor turns orange but won't charge the battery or power the computer - it will only run from the battery. If I wiggle the connector where it plugs into the computer then the light goes green but still won't power the computer.
The connector where it plugs into the computer feels quite loose, do you think replacing it would work, or is it an internal problem?

When you say connector are you referring to the port that you plug the adaptor into ON the computer? THAT is loose? Or are you talking about the plug part?
Did you ever get your problem resolved?
All of a sudden I'm having an issue when I plug the adaptor into the port it glows for a brief second and then it stops, so it's not powering or charging my powerbook. I can't use it because there is only 4% battery life left. I don't know if it''s the adaptor or the PB itself...nothing is loose. But I'm a little annoyed because this computer has only been lightly used as a backup, so it's practically brand new and a little premature for things to just stop working...
I can't remember what OS and I can't check right now. It's over a year old.

  • Powerbook won't run off of battery - requires PMU reset to power up with AC

Like everyone else posting here, my powerbook won't run from the battery. I have two batteries, one that came with the computer 3 - 4 years ago and a newer one that I purchased about 1 year ago. When I am plugged into AC using iStat Nano the newer battery shows cycles 173, health 89%. The older battery show cycles 0 and health 100% (go figure!). Both batteries just say 'calculating' on the tool bar battery meter. The light around the AC adapter plug always shows green as if the batteries are fully charged.
Here is where my post differs from the others. Once I shut down the computer I can't power it up again with reseting the PMU. I've tried reseting NVRAM and deleting and re-establishing the powermanagement plist as suggested elsewhere on this forum to no avail.
Is the PMU something that can be replaced? How is it related to DC-IN? I've read elsewhere here that is another problem that could cause these symptoms. Has anyone had these two components repaired and did it fix the problem? How much did it cost?
Thanks in advance for any information you can give men.

I had the same experience. I have 10.4.10 on the cloned drive but the battery is still not charging. I decided to take a closer look at the battery updater instructions and discovered that even though I am at 10.4.11 on my Powerbook the BatteryUpdater.bundle was at revision 1.1.3 and hadn't been updated since Jan 6, 2006. So I downloaded the BatteryUpdate that is posted at the top of this forum and installed it. It has made no difference in the operation of the computer. The AC adapter still isn't charging the battery although the green ring light is on which usually indicates the battery is charged. furthermore, when I go back and look at the date and version number on the BatteryUpdater.bundle they haven't changed. Who knows what the update actually changed! There is no mention of it running in the software update log. My system profiler says:
    The battery is installed
    Full charge Capacity 3890
    Remaining Capacity 0
    Cycle Count 173
AC adapter cannot charge battery: YES
By the way, my battery is a replacement battery.
I have just about exhausted all my option other than taking it into an Apple repair store and I'm not sure at this point I want to give Apple any more of my money. I am going to live with it the way it is for a while in the hopes that someone will post a fix for the problem. Good luck with your investigation. If you find out anything else please post it here as I will check back on a regular basis. If I find out anything else I will do the same. Nice working with you.

  • NX6325 won't power up - battery light flashes 8 times

I have a 3 year old NX6325 that won't power up any more.
It makes no difference whether the charger is plugged in or not.
When I turn it on the battery light flashes 8 times (amber) and that's it. Nothing else happens.
Does anybody know what this means?
    Regards,
    Julian.

It is very likely your Northbridge chipset is gone.
The CPU could not make connection to the Northbridge to initiate the any data transfer from the Southbridge ( connected to all your low level devices such as Hard Drive, USB ports, Optical Driver and etc ) to fetch the BIOS content to start the POST ( Power On Self Test ) sequence.
It could also mean your CPU could be bad.

  • MDD won't power up, even after battery replaced?? Help!!

Hi everyone. I use a MDD 1.25 GHz G4 at work and when I got in this morning the thing wouldn't turn on. After reading numerous forums, I tried the PMU reset button and changed the battery, and still nothing. I've read numerous others that say that they push the power button and it lights up for a second and then shuts off. Well, mine doesn't even light up at all!! I've tried different power cords, even tried an old keyboard with the power button on it, just in case the power button on the G4 was bad. Still no luck!! Could the power supply be bad? I need to advise my boss quickly on this so we know which direction to go from here. He was ready to buy a new one, but I'm trying to save him some money, as we are a smaller company. Anyways, hope one of you gurus can help. Thanks in advance...

  • Pavilion dv7 3079wm won't power up with/without battery or ac cord

Tried to power up with a.c. cord or battery. Leads flash once attempts to start, then goes out.

I hope you folks won't mind my piggy-backing on this thread.  I have a very similar problem with a dv7 (belongs to my grandmother).
When I plug in the AC adapter, the small LED next to the socket usually does not light up, but will flash briefly when the power cable is removed.  The AC adapter is fine, because I've used it to charge and run my dv5 with no problems.  If I unplug and then plug the AC adapter into the socket repeatedly, eventually at some random point the LED will stay on.
    However...
The battery light is slowly flashing.  It flashes anytime the AC adapter is plugged in (whether or not the LED next to the jack lights up).
The computer won't power up.  It tries to for a second or two, then shuts down... as if the battery was critically low.
Now the thing that puzzles me -- The computer won't start up on AC power without the battery installed.  I can do this on my dv5 with no problem.  It does not require the battery to be installed.  I figured if the battery is completely dead in the dv7, that it may be confusing the system and not allow it to start at all.  But, trying to start up the dv7 without a battery does absolutely nothing at all.
I'm hoping that the dv7 is designed to always work with a battery and that all I need to do is just install a new one.  Does that seem sensible?  I just don't want to buy one (they cost a whopping $140 from HP!) only to find that the computer is suffering from a more serious problem.

  • Ibook g4 won't power on but i am able to charge battery

i have an ibook g4 and it used to work fine until one day. may have been dropped.. but now when i try to turn it on by pressing the power button nothing happens.. the charger light comes on and it charges the battery but the laptop won't turn on with a full battery or with ac power adapter plugged in... i haven't really tried anything yet and i haven't tryed a different power adapter or battery... does anyone have any ideas.....

I am having a similar problem to this issue with my daughter's ibook. She came home to a dark grey box that states you need to restart your computer hold down the power button for several seconds or press restart button. However, when she goes through those steps she ends back at the same box. Any ideas would be appreciated. I do hear some funny sounds coming from the system on boot-up.
