M5000 - Memory Board Upgrades

Please confirm if the following configuration is possible:
The Server M5000 will support the combination of memories.
Example:
MEMB1  Group A ( 4 x 8 GB DIMM ) + MEMB2  Group A ( 4 x 8 GB DIMM )  + MEMB3  Group A ( 4 x 8 GB DIMM ) + MEMB4  Group A ( 4 x 8 GB DIMM )   =  128 GB
OR
MEMB1  Group A and  B( 8  x 8 GB DIMM ) + MEMB2  Group A and  B  ( 8 x 4 GB DIMM )  + MEMB3 Group A and  B ( 8 x 2 GB DIMM ) + MEMB4  Group A ( 8 x 2 GB DIMM )   =  128 GB
Is it correct?

Dear user 5530729,
the first example of memory configuration sounds reasonable, even I'm confused by the MEMB numbering you used.
( MEMB#0 is the first one in a M5000 and it needs to be populated first, but may be you meant with MEMB1 = MEMB#0)
Alternatively you can use the following configuration:
MEMB#0  Group A + B( 8 x 8 GB DIMM ) + MEMB#1  Group A + B ( 8 x 8 GB DIMM )  = 128 GB
( saves the need of 2 's, having two MEMB's or 4 MEMB's installed on one PSB is valid )
The second example will not work as you violate the memory configuration rules for Mx000 server. In this case the one,
saying the DIMMs populating group A must be equal or greater than the DIMMs populating group B, because the groups
are spread across all memory boards of the same XSB, and you use different DIMM sizes on the memory boards.

Is there anyway i can tell how much memory boards installed on a M5000 servers on OS level?
I don't think prtdiag show that info

    Hi.
You can get this information only from XSCF ( showhardconf )
You can access to XSCF from Solaris via dscp network.
Domain can be configured only on part of M5000 and can't get information about other part.
    Regards.

  • M5000 Memory Config Rules

    Hello,
Iv'e been reading the M5000 Service Manual, XSCF Manual and I'm unclear about the memory configuration rules. Our M5000 is configured as a single domain with half of the server populated. 2 CPU boards and 4 Memory Boards. Each board has 8 x 2GB dimms for 64GB total. We would like to add another 2 Memory Boards (each 8 x 2GB).
This is where the confiusion is, the Configuration Rules say each XSB must have 1, 2 or 4 Memory Boards. But in a UNI-XSB configuration is the whole server one XSB? Can I just add the new memory boards to the next two open slots on the other half? Or do we have to move one of the CPU Boards to the other half of the server? Or is this not possible at all?
    Thanks for any info.
    -Todd

    Hi.
One XSB on M5000 must include:
    - 1 or 2 CPU board ( 2 or 4 CPU corresponding)
    - 1 - 4 MemBoard
    - 1 IO board.
It's look like you server have only one IO board so you can confgiure only one XSB and can't add additional MemBoard.
M5000 can consist 1 or 2 XSB ( depending of configuration. Main limitation - number of IO boards)
You can buy 1 additional IO-board and 2 ( or requird number ) MemB.
Move one CPU board to another half of ther server and configure additional XSF.
    XSB 0 ( uni-mode) : 1 CPU-Board ; 4 MemB ; 1 IO
    XSB 1 ( uni-mode) : 1 CPU-Board ; 2 MemB ( new) ; 1 IO (new)
    Regards

  • How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

  • Process and Memory Board

Noting that the MP 09 has a removable "processor and memory board", one sees the potential for easier warranty repair by swapping out a new board for an old one, I would assume.
Does any one see other potential in the ability to swap out the processor board and memory component?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. • Powermac flashing status light error and adding memory boards

I bought a used Powermac G5. So far it won't boot, there is no image being delivered to the monitor, and the fan revs like a vacuum cleaner.  At first the status light gave series of 3 flashing lights which the online manual (I don't have the specific manual for this machine) says is incorrect memory board or similar message. However, last time I turned on the Powermac the status light now gives single flashes which diagnostic meaning is not even mentioned in the online manual I am using. Does anyone know what single flashes mean? As far as the memory boards are concerned, what is in there now are: Apple memory module M9296G/A (Samsung PC3200U 30331 0413 256MB DDR CL3) in both inner slots, and Hynix PC3200U 30330 0411 256MB DDR 400Mhz CL3 in both second to inner slots. Are these the correct boards? I have on hand 2 other boards from a broken iMac G5. They are Edge Tech 1GB 5380601-40. Can these iMac boards be added to what is in the Powermac or substituted for two of the existing matched boards if they are the wrong type for the Powermac? Both the Powermac and the iMac run Leopard OS. I have also ordered a new battery for the Powermac. The existing battery is dead. Could that cause flashing status light? Thanks.

    5. Or just getting a second set of Corsair XMS2 (TWIN2X4096-6400C5) for a total of 8GB.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184
I would just get a 2nd set of corsair memory.... but if I get a quad kit I know I am getting 4 matching modules ( Or at least should ).  Instead of memory manufactured a year ago or longer (for original set) and up to this year (for 2nd set).   I don't want problems between same type of memory using different chip sets.  Oh btw,  I would really prefer PC2 8500 or so.
Anyone out there had or have any of these combinations.  Or is there other memory that you would recommend instead.  Overclockability is a plus.
Oh ya I have also thought about upgrading motherboard as well and get something with the 790X or 790FX/SB750 chip sets instead of the 790FX/SB600.  But not quite sure what to get on that end either.
    My system specs are below.

Anyone of the above should work fine. I would consider Mushkin XP2-8500 modules, but with 4 x 2 GB modules you will probably have bad overclockability with any memory.
If you have a K9A2 Platinum now, it's not really useful upgrading to a 790FX + SB750 board. Granted, SATA and USB performance should be a bit better with the SB750 and it has RAID 5 support. For the rest, you will not notice the difference...

  • Why don't i have enough memory to upgrade to lion?

I have a 2 year old intel imac that i'm trying to upgrade to lion. I can't installsays I need 2GB of memory, I have 1. Seriously...this is arelatively new computer..I have to buy more memory?

Yes, Charlie is right. With any OS, the listed minimum RAM is always enough to just barely run it. In practice, this is rarely ever enough, because as soon as you add the demands of software etc it can't keep up. I am impressed you can manage at all, quite honestly. (Smiles)
What really impresses me, however, is that someone was actually selling computers with 1G of RAM 2 years ago.  Four years ago I bought a cheapish Windows laptop, and the choice was btwn 2 or 4G. I have since worn it out (did I mention cheap?), and have inherited a four year old MacBook Pro. It came stock with 2G, so I upped it to 4G. It walks like my grannie, and I do all my 'real' work on an iMAC with 16G. Most people these days buy 8G.
The problem you may have with upgrading is that your board is probably old, too. If you do purchase a new one, ask around in here regarding specs.. and don't buy one from the person who sold you that one! (chuckles)

  • MSI KT8 Neo2 F board, upgraded cpu and used MSIs Live Update, now unstable BSODs

I've had this mobo for almost 2 yrs now with an AMD 3500+ cpu and recently upgraded that to the FX-55. To do that, it required using MSIs Live Update and needed newer chipset drivers. It has the latest bios according to Live Update.
It took a few attempts but finally booted w/o BSODs and has been running for over 1 week BUT is still not right. It's sometimes unstable and will crash (BSOD) just by starting up a browser. I had the bios settings at "optimized" and have tryed a few other changes but so far, I'm not gaining. Last night I couldn't keep it running more than a few minutes w/o it crashing.
I have the MSI manual for my board and plan to spend some more time playing with it tonight but might anyone here have any ideas? It's not running hot (reads 50C) and was stable before with the 3500+. I've tryed "Fail Safe" bios settings too but nothing's better that way either.
I'm hoping that someone here has a few ideas?
    Perhaps related?
After initially running this with the new cpu, I'd see the "searching for MAC address" message and it'd hang there on boot. Someone told me that was because it was trying to do a network boot, selected in the boot sequence SO I've unselected that and that's when things got worse (oddly as it shouldn't IMO). One can select the 3+ boot devices (floppy, USB, CD-DVD rom, HDD) and it use to see the HDDs (2) before but now I'm not (only floppy and CD-DVD rom) and if I unselect the ethernet option (boot other devices), it fails to boot at all and says "insert floppy" as if I was installing Win98 way back when (running XP Pro btw). Something's definately not right with my bios selections.

Let's go back to basics here for a bit. Start by posting your complete specs in your signature like we do. Make sure that your PSU values are also in there.
Let's also look at some tests to help determine where the issue is. I would recommend Memtest86+, OCCT, Prime95, and 3DMarks as a great first series. Also get CPUz and lets see what it shows for CPU and Memory.
If we can get an idea where things begin to fall apart then maybe we can determine if this is driver, hardware or some other issue without having to make the flash happen first. The reason why I am avoiding the flash at this point is that if things are mostly working maybe there is some other cause than Bios. We know that some FX's work with 3.x and some that don't. So I would like to try a bit of checking before we dive into a flash that could cause more issues than it solves if we get this wrong. As things are mostly working now we can assume at least for the moment that maybe the flash is not needed. If we don't see anything during testing that sheds some light then maybe we go ahead with the flash.
That is if your willing to take some time to try and sort this out and maybe learn some stuff in the process. It is of course your call and we will respect whichever decission you make here.

  • Memory Configuration & Upgrade Recommendations - 2006 Mac Pro

    Hello,
It's been a long time since I have been posting here. Nice to see that everyone is still here. I have a memory configuration and upgrade I am now looking at. I'm also interested in how to use Bootcamp and install 64-bit Windows 7 when I have the EFI32. It appears that many of you build a new Windows 7 install DVD?
    Here is my current configuration:
    A1: 2GB
    A2: 2GB
    B1: 1GB
    B2: 1GB
    A3: 512 MB
    A4: 512 MB
    B3: 512 MB
    B4: 512 MB
I'm interested in comparing the 4GB vs. 2GB modules and what are the best options for maxing out this Mac Pro. I have forensic software that uses Oracle that I want to put on Windows 7 or a 64-bit Windows server. The system requirements say 16-32GB in a 64-bit environment for Oracle.
I also want to use CS4, Lightroom, Aperture, Capture One Pro, and FC HD on Snow Leopard.
I would appreciate input on configuration and memory quantities for what appears to now be an ancient Mac Pro and how to use a 64-bit OS on Bootcamp.
Thank you for your time and input!
    Michael

2006: 4 memory chips is ideal. obviously that only takes you to 16GB max.
    2008: 8 memory chips (don't read about 2008 then!)
I've seen people report their 4GB DIMMs run cooler, too, and heat is always an issue when it comes to FBDIMMs. They use a lot of power (watts) and one of the large sources of heat.
What you have now, 2s and 1s and 512s don't get you to 16GB or above, and as I posted you can get to 20GB replacing 4 x 512s.
I'd try with 4 x 4GB, which seems like you have to buy anyway, and see how heat and performance is. And only then consider adding back 2s and 1s to get to 20GB.
in the end, I'd sell the RAM you have if it makes a difference.

  • Memory(RAM) upgrade on a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro

Hello Apple fans and users. My Mid-2012 MacBook Pro 13" is a bit slow. It has 2x2GB DDR3 1600MHz Ram and when I open more than 4-5 tabs in Safari it becomes really really slow. So that's what's bothering me and I have decided that I need to upgrade my RAM to more GB's. I have iStat app and it shows me that more 3/4ths of the RAM is being used when I have more than 4-5 tabs open in Safari and when my iTunes is playing a song.
So Im from the Netherlands and what I found is this:  http://www.alternate.nl/Corsair/4-GB-DDR3-1333/html/product/922656?tk=7&lk=9331
It even says MAC Memory. I find this good because it is supposed to be for a MAC, but my only concern is that my memory right now is 2x2GB 1600MHz, and the one that Im currently looking at(at the link) is only 1333MHz.
Do you guys think this might be a problem or it is bad or is it going to be a NOT SO GOOD upgrade? Im not very good with computers but from what I know 1333MHz is less than 1600MHz...
    But I also found this -> http://www.alternate.nl/Kingston-ValueRAM/4GB-ECC-DDR3-1600/html/product/1118143 ?event=search
and it is 1600MHz, DDR3, 4GB BUT I AM NOT Sure if it's gonna work on my laptop because it is a MAC.
So what do you guys think? Which one should I get and why? Is there a difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz? And what is it? How am I gonna feel the difference?

As BobRz says, get the right speed, or you may have problems.
