M5400: Automatically Optimize for battery lifespan?

Hello mithunr,
I know you can help me with a clear answer !!!
I am using since 3 days ago a Lenovo Essential M5400 laptop.
It looks very nice , all software i found on lenovo website , so its great.
Because is my first laptop , i do have some questions regarding the battery lifespan, because i am using my laptop like a desktop, all the time the AC adapter connected.
I am using Power Manger 6 and i set the battery on : automatically optimize for baterry lifespan.
Did i made the best choice if i am using my laptop as a desktop ??? (for sure i will not use it very often on battery mode)
I want to say that the battery is fully charged 100% , status : no activity,
I used only 1 time the battery until 85% and then i plugged in again the AC, and was charged again to 100% and remained like this.
design capacity 47,52whrs , remaining capacity 47.07whrs - this means 99,05%
cycle count 2, temperature 27-30.
I know that is not ok to work with battery 100% charged , but in this way this option : automatically maximize for battery lifespan is ok or not?
Please help me with this issue , i really dont know what is the better option if i use my laptop as a desktop (ac connected).
Thank you very much .

Thanks CBHedricks.
Normally i am using all the time AC power connected , thats why i did not know which option to select in order to not kill the battery very fast .
I selected the option "Automatically optimize for battery lifespan" from Lenovo Power Manager 6 -> Battery -> Battery maintenance (advanced options) .
So, your opinion is that this options is the best for my type of laptop use (ac power connected) ???
Thanks again .

  • Automatically Optimize for battery lifespan works?

    Hi All,
    My current x230 is set to "Automatically optimize for batter lifespan" under battery maintenance. I read that for this settings, it'll set your battery to hover around 80%~ base on Lenovo forum under w530 section. However, i'm always seeing my battery at 100% when AC is plugged in; Remaining capacity: 62.47 wh ; Full charge capacity: 62.47wh. Is it suppose to be lesser? I suppose it not healthy for the battery to be constantly kept at 100%. Any x230 users experiencing this too?
    Would like my battery to last at least 2 years. usage :70% AC plugged in,30% on the go.
    Thank you!

  • Automatically optimize for battery lifespan charges the batt to 100% in Power Manager settings

    Whats crazy about my system is I did a complete driver update with the lenovo update and I still dont have the option for Automatically optimize for battery lifespan. It never shows in my options please someone help me to get this option so I wont burn out my battery. Here is the link to my screen shot http://screencast.com/t/aOvXEJfLnmSm thank you

    Hi Shaggy2626,
    Thank you for the reply!
    There are no additional settings for that, only thing we have to check with setting the BIOS to factory default. To proceed with that go to BIOS and press F9 to set factory default setting and F10 to save and exit.
    Uninstall the current version which you have installed and download the application from the below link, it might be little older version. But I have checked with my T430 and its working fine for me.

  • Automatically Optimize For Battery lifespan

    Yes another question on this but I can't find an answer.
    When you click the help section on my Lenovo X220 it states the following:  "Battery Health Mode immediately discharge your battery to 50% and set to stop charging at 50% and start charging at 46%."
    My computer most definitely does not do this.  In fact when I set Optimize for Battery lifespan and restart the computer my battery gauge will go from reading 98% (pre-restart) to 100% (post restart).  If I set custom thresholds my battery gauge will suddenly read 98% again.  Finally, when set on "optimize for battery lifespan" the remaining capacity on my battery is 61.68 wH and the maximum capacity is 56.87.  What gives?
    Why is my battery not "immediately" discharging to 50% as specified in the help?
     What is with my gauge jumping between 98% and 100%?
    Why is my battery's remaining capacity greater than the maximum capacity (I have had the computer for only 1 month and it is always plugged in)?
    Weird

    hey imbcms1
    try doing a battery gauge reset. then use your unit as usual (without AC adapter) and let it discharged normally.
    once discharge, charge it fully and do not use the unit while its charging.
    uninstall and reinstall the power manager. Currently the latest version of power manager is at 3.62 (win 7) / 1.99j (win xp)

  • Power Manager - Battery Maintenance: "Optimize for battery lifespan" question

    Having just had a battery failure after only 14 months and 77 cycles (seems some of the cells have failed as it now only lasts about 30 mins despite saying condition good and 3 hours to go - 30 mins later at 4% and takes only 30 mins to fully charge) I just bought a new battery and will be paying much closer attention to managing it using the Power Manager tool Battery Maintenance options.
    Have read a lot here and elsewhere about batt issues and thresholds for maximising life. Can live with the conflicting advice too, but what I really want to know is this:
    If I select the "Optimize for battery lifespan (automatically change for me)" option and check the box that says "Notify me when thresholds change" - is there any way this little app can be persuaded to tell me what the thresholds actually ARE at any time / at the outset?
    It is all very well letting it decide what thresholds for charging/discharging to implement but I would like to know what they are and nowhere can I see how to get this info. And I have not yet had a " they've changed" message and have no idea when I might.   I know I'm just the poor sap who pays for the batteries but surely I can be allowed to know what, in its wisdom, the Power Manager has deemed appropriate to implement if I give its own way?
    Anyone got any experience/clues as to how to track/monitor the automatic levels when these settings selected?
    Thanks.

    Hello George,
    it seems that the feature to manually adjust the thresholds has dissapeared in newer powermanager versions.
    The powermanager is now set to a full automatic and takes care of your battery health.
    Simply set it to automatic and relax.
    Also I recommend to leave your battery in your TP, it will not harm the battery.

  • How to maximize W520 Battery Lifespan?

    I just got a W520 and I plan to run it off of the AC adapter 90% of the time, so I want to make sure that I will not reducing the lifespan of the battery in any way. I read the help section in the battery maintenance window, and it sounds like if I run automatically optimize for battery lifespan, it will recognize my habits in time and change the thresholds. I would rather it run at the thresholds for maximum battery life immediately. What threshold settings would that be?  Also I saw something about charge rate in the help section. Is charge rate determined by the thresholds? Would setting the charge thresholds myself be equivalent to the optimize lifespan setting (once it's reached the right values), or is it doing something different? I don't really care what charge level my battery is kept at, I just want it to last as long as possible.

    If you really want to make it last longer, charge it about half way and freeze it:

  • Power manager setting for battery on AC

    Hello,
    99% of the time I keep my T61 14" plugged into the wall and was wondering what the recommended battery settings would be in Power manager? I guess this mainly refers to the charge thresholds.  Currently I just have the checkbox selected that says "optimize for battery life".
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    If you want to maximize battery life it's best to remove the battery at around 40% charge and store it separately in a cool, dry location. Check it every few months and recharge it as necessary. If you leave the battery inside your ThinkPad, even with optimized recharge settings, the heat from the system will reduce battery life.

  • Using a power bank good or bad for iphone battery lifespan?

    I currently use iphone 5, i see many aid product made now such as power bank,
    but a question comes in my mind , is that good or bad for our battery lifespan?

    Are you referring to cases with battery packs in them?
    If so, most have a switch to turn the battery in the case on or off.
    Having the iPhone or any phone in a battery case is neither good or bad.  It is merely a way to extend the "life" of the device between charges without the need to physically plug the device in as there is always the extra battery onboard.

  • No drives for automatic optimization

  • Right way for battery charging

    Hi everybody! I bought an iPad Air when he was released. Surfing on Internet, I've heard conflicting opinions about the right way to charge the iPad (or the iPhone) to increase its battery life. What I want to ask is this: iit is true that once a month you have to bring the battery to 0% and then charging it?

    The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
    Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
    How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
    At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Is there a fix for battery drain on ipad 2 IOS 5.0.1? drain from 100% to 70% in less than 20min had it on playing music with display off

    is there a fix for battery drain on ipad 2 IOS 5.0.1? drain from 100% to 70% in less than 20min had it on playing music with display off

    About all that can be suggested is to use the feedback form and talk to Apple. They have communicated with some users, trying to get more info to find out just what the battery drain is so they can fix it. Unfortunately with the myriad of operating systems, apps and individual tweaks, there could be several combinations of settings that are draining the battery.
    My personal suspicion is that it has something to do with iCloud and the wifi syncing. (My ipad, before I changed the setting, was reaching out to find a sync on a regular basis. And it may still be doing so, however I set my iTunes to not automatically open to keep my device from trying to sync several times in an evening...not to mention the constant aggravation of iTunes opening regularly)
    That said, I could be wrong and it could be an app that users have in common, or several apps.

  • Is there a way to change the automatic optimization of the Thumbnail images in Webgallery?

    Is there a way to change the automatic optimization of the Thumbnail images in webgallery found in Photoshop (CS3 or Photoshop elements-- I have both)?  The thumbnails come out so blurry that it's embarrassing (for an art site). Thanks.

    Thanks for your response. Your websites look great!  You are to be complimented on your fine design work.
    I've been doing custom sized thumbnails, at around 300px, but they are still a little blurry, like when JPEGs are over optimized and some isolated areas look like they are churning, one shape melting into another like boiling water.  Then, I tried even larger thumbnails, and then shrunk them to a smaller size using HTML commands, hoping  that shrinking them smaller would help tighten up the blurry churning areas. They looked a little better, but the churning areas remained.  When I open up the individual thumbnails in Photoshop and I try using the unsharp mask or the sharpen function, it gets even worse.

ORACLE SERVER
    PURPOSE
(Automatic Optimizer
    Statistics Collection)
    Explanation
    1) STATISTICS_LEVEL = TYPICAL | ALL
    3. GATHER_STATS_JOB에 대한 설명
    GATHER_STATS_JOB 은 DBMS_STATS.GATHER_DATABASE_STATS_JOB_PROC procedure를
    이 프로시져는 'GATHER AUTO' 옵션을 사용한 DBMS_STATS.GATHER_DATABASE_STATS
    GATHER_DATABASE_STATS_JOB_PROC procedure는 통계정보를 수집해야 할
    4. Dictionary Objects
    언제라도, DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS procedure를 사용하여
    2) DBMS_STATS.GATHER_DICTIONARY_STATS라 하는 새로운 procedure도 사용
ANALYZE ANY DICTIONARY
    3) GATHER_DATABASE_STATS라는 프로시져는 GATHER_FIXED라 불리우는 새로운
    4) GATHER_FIXED_OBJECTS_STATS라는 procedure를 사용하여 fixed table들에

    Hi,
    Please see here,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/stats.htm#i41448
    If the table/s are changing very frequently than its better to gather the stats manually.This would lead teh volatile table coming up into the stats job again and again.
    For the system stats and data dictionary stats,they are not collected by default.So there is no choice but to gather them manually.

  • Batch fetch optimization for lazy collections

    Hi,
    I feel like this question must have been asked by somebody already but couldn't find any answers in the forum.
    We're trying to evaluate migrating from Hibernate to KODO JDO. One feature we use extensively from Hibernate is the "batch fetch optimization for lazy collections".
    For instance, there's a class User with collection "Set<String> permissions". In the DB, there're tables USER(id, name, etc) and USER_PERMISSIONS(user_id, permission) with one-to-many relationship b/w them.
    Suppose the code is the following:
    query = ....;
    List<User> users = (List<User>) query.execute();
    for (User user : users) {
    println("User: " + user.getName());
    println("Permissions: " + user.getPermissions());
    I've setup EagerFetchMode to parallel. For field "permissions" I had to specify default-fetch-group="true" b/c I wanted this to happen lazily. When I look through the logs, I see that permissions SQL query is executed for each user.
    With Hibernate we were to setup mapping the way that permissions are not fetched at first, but when they are requested for the first user (user.getPermissions()) they are automatically selected for several users in one query using SQL IN clause (similar to the parallel mode).
    Is this possible to recreate the same in KODO JDO? (JPA?) If it is, this would greatly simplify migration. Please notice, that we can't use explicit fetch groups for this, b/c we don't know ahead which collection can be navigated (in the real life User class have many relationships).
    thanks in advance,
    Dimitry

    Kodo doesn't have a direct analog for that behavior. The typical way to solve that problem is to keep the field out of the default fetch group, and then explicitly include the desired field in the current fetch group at runtime. In pure JDO, you can do this by creating a separate fetch group that includes the relationship field, and designating that the query should use that fetch group:
    <pre>
    query = ...;
    query.getFetchPlan().addGroup("relationshipGroup");
    List<User> users = (List<User>) query.execute();
    </pre>
    Kodo has JDO extensions that allow you to do this a bit more easily:
    <pre>
    query = ...;
    ((kodo.jdo.KodoFetchPlan) query.getFetchPlan()).addField("com.example.User.permissions");
    List<User> users = (List<User>) query.execute();
    </pre>
    Finally, you can do this with Kodo's JPA extensions like so:
    <pre>
    import org.apache.openjpa.persistence.OpenJPAQuery;
    query = (OpenJPAQuery) ...;
    query.getFetchPlan().addField("com.example.User.permissions");
    List<User> users = (List<User>) query.getResultList();
    </pre>
    Note that in all cases, you could also make this change to the current PersistenceManager / EntityManager's fetch plan instead, to make the change happen for the duration of the use of that manager. In that environment, the change would need to happen before the query was created.
    (And no, I have no idea why the edit box has a 'pre' button but does not seem to do anything with the resulting tags.)
    -Patrick
