WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!!!!!! I have eight (8) of the ThinkCenter M57 6072 HDU running BIOS 2RKT64AUS. I have E8400s in a couple of them @ 3.0 GHz from the stock E7200 2.66GHz. Paid $65 each of the M57s at an online goverment surplus site. The machines are used by our kids for general homework and League of Legends, Warcraft, etc. The onboard graphics would not run these games. Purchased a ASUS Radeon HD 5450 Silent 1GB DDR3 64BIT PCI-E DVI-I HDMI HDCP Passive Low Profile Video Card for about $35. ***FAILED TO POST***. Purchased a VGA GIGABYTE|GV-N640D5-1GL RTL (NewEgg or NCIX) and it installed, posted, booted, and graphically scored 7.1 on Windows Experience Index and over 1300 on Perfomance Test 8.0 from Passmark Software. Card cost $100 (not on sale) Also purchased a pair of non-matching GT630s (~$65-100) and a GT610 (~$55) to try along with the GT640 but when they all came I started with the GT640 and never looked back. RMAd the others and bought six(6) more GT640s; only six(6) because I killed one of the motherboards updating the BIOS with the E8400 installed!! Only Flash with the correct CPU in I guess. I also intalled a ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 Channel PCI Sound Card 24BIT Dolby Digital DTS 105DB SNR W/ Headphone AMP for $35 and it went in the available PCI slot and now these machines rip and scream. The slowest part of these machines is the memory and the HDD. Easy to put in a nice SSD if someone wanted. And I might experiment with the E8400 machines with some faster memory. Yes, of course, you are correct, Harm. I was over-simplifying.
I Took the OP's "enabled" to really mean "accelerated", and in that sense, it will not work as without the necessary graphics card there will be no acceleration.
I can certainly support your third paragraph, having just moved from a four-year-old system with a quad 3 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM and a hacked 460 GTX graphics card, to a Sandy Bridge E system with a 3930 CPU, 32 GB of RAM but the same graphics card and HDD set up (for the moment). Your oft stated "molasses in winter" describes my old system pretty well from my present viewpoint!
The old system coped with the fairly gentle HDV, provided I kept the number of assets down, but threw a hissy fit if I tried 1920 HD, even with the Matrox (I know, I know!) I-frame codec.

You would be better off upgrading along my path - motherboard and processor first, using as much as you can of your old system for now, as this allows much better scope for future upgrading.

K7N2 does not seem to recognize any graphics card

If anyone could help me out with this I'd really appreciate it, I'm pretty stumped.
Current Specs:
OS: Win XP Pro
Mobo: K7N2 Delta w/ nforce 2 chipset
Graphics Card: MSI FX5600 w/128 MB DDR
Power Supply: Antec SmartPower 350 Watt
Ram: 1GB
Here's the problem. When I boot my system, the windows logo comes up with the blue scroll bar below it but after that's done loading I get a stop error
STOP: 0x000000EA
This refers to either a graphics hardware/software related problem.
I tried booting up in safe mode and after system loads the bare minimum, screen goes black and just hangs. I tried using the "last known good configuration" option but it takes me back to the blue screen.
So, using a fresh unused hard drive I installed Windows XP and then proceeded to install brand new drivers for this card to see if it will work. Computer works fine before VGA drivers are installed, but afterwards I'm back to square one. I've tried FX5600 drivers from: the CD that came with the box, from the MSI website, nVidia's website, and from Windows update. All took me back to the initial problem once they've been installed.
Then I said "O.K., it must be the GeForce card itself." So I've tried several different graphics cards to try and replace the one I have now but whenever I use another card the system won't boot up. The fans will turn on and that's about it. I've tried PCI and AGP cards.
Does anyone have any advice for how to troubleshoot this issue? Does it sound like I can still get my card to work? How can I get another graphics card to work with the system?

RAM Specs:
2 sticks of 512 MB PC2700 CL 2.5 Apacer RAM. I don't know if this matters but they're in DIMM slots 1 & 3.
I downloaded nForce drivers (version 5.10 as Richard suggested) and everything installed fine. However, the computer freezes whenever I'm using MSI liveupdate.
So, instead of using liveupdate I downloaded the nvidia drivers directly from Nvidia.com. During installation the screen flickered three times, and immediately after this the only thing appearing on the screen was a blinking cursor in the upper left; the computer just hung at this point.

So I am starting school and I wanted to make sure the laptop I buy is supported fully. I was looking at the list of supported graphics cards for After Effects and i noticed that the 700s and 800s are not listed. I am thinking it may be that the list is just out of date (I hope)

Any other cards may or may not work for GPU accelerated effects in AE using the Ray-traced rendering system, but this rendering engine is obsolete and will not be undergoing any further development.
A better list to look at are the Mercury playback supported cards for Premiere Pro.

MSI Z77A-G45 (bios v. 2.5) not reading ANY graphics cards

Hey all. I've tried 3 different graphics cards (GTX 680, 670, and 285). No display output. Fans are spinning. Nothing I've tried on the computer from the nvidia java applets to installing the latest drivers for each respective card has worked. They all tell me the same thing: cannot detect any graphics device.
I know about the obvious stuff (power plugged in, appropriated size PSU, installed firmly, the GTX 285 worked fine on another PC).
Anything I'm missing? Trying out a new MOBO tomorrow.

Update: Just fixed it myself. After some googling I did what I think is a "CMOS" update. in which I simply removed the MOBO battery and put it back in.
Now everything is just peachy. Man, I had agonized about this for a solid week.

I understand that you are frustrated, but it will help us all to help you if you create a Signature with all the info, and specs of your PC...As this info will keep us from having to guess for example, What Operating system are you running? Windows, Linux?, if Windows what version?, What type and speed Memory are you using? What type of CPU, a P-4, a Celeron, what speed?.ect. What Voltage is the Mem. set to, Voltage of the CPU?...These are all things that we need to know..Otherwise if we do not have this info we have to guess....So please we want to help ..But you have to give us all the info we need ...Sean REILLY875

Cannot update graphics card BIOS, MSI Live upate 6 will not work.

Live update 6 does not support "MSI Radeon R9 280x Gaming 6G" graphics card.
Live update 6 does not run.
Even tried mass loading Live update 6 to the point it had 800+ "Live Update.exe 32*" processors running in task manager and they soon disappeared 20 seconds later.
No UI.
No Error message.
If the program is not running it is clear it does not support any of the hardware in my system including "MSI Radeon R9 280x Gaming 6G".
As a result I cannot update to latest BIOS for my graphics card.

Am I required to have an MSI motherboard to be eligible for a graphics card BIOS update?
The reason why I seek this is because the entire line of R9 200 series graphics cards are plagued with screen flickering due to ULPS. BIOS updates for other vendors of the card; "Gigabyte", "Asus" etc have been reported to fix the monitor flicking ULPS causes however since I have an MSI GFX card I cannot use Gigabyte and Asus BIOS updates.
I no longer have the flickering issue due disabling ULPS and overclocking the graphics card however it's causing the card to operate at a constant 48 degrees and chew power.
With the overclock values and stress testing it with Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (extreme preset) the card reaches a max of 74 degrees over the course of stress testing for 4 hours.
But I would like to be able to have my card at factory clock settings with ULPS without the flickering and I'm wanting to see if the staff at MSI are fully aware of the bug in their product line and if the latest BIOS version for the graphics card would fix the issue.

No but live update is flakey at best and i wouldn't trust it.... (seen far to many problems with it)
if you want a Updated VBIOS if one is available please supply these 2 things and then one of the other mods will be able to get you what is needed!
1: Serial number of your card (leave off the last 3 digits and then there is no unique information about your card as the rest is all just manufacture data to all the cards from that batch)
2: click the little icon to the side of your BIOS version number and save a copy of the VBIOS to a file and uplaod it to somewhere and give us a link to the file... (use somewhere like Dropbox)
once we have those 2 pieces of information someone here will be able to get one if Available for your card

Graphics card on mac book pro 15 retina not showing?

Sorry if this is a daft question but im very new to macs bought my first one last night. The mac has a graphics 1gb graphics card but when i click on about this mac is only shows 512mb graphics is that right? I know it also has the hd4000 built in but i thought the os would show the 1gb card.

You'll only see the card that actually in use when you go to About This Mac... More Info..., so it's only displaying the Intel GPU. If you open Photoshop. Chrome. etc. - any application dependent on the discrete GPU. youo'll see that card listed in all its 1GB glory (he wrote with envy!).
You can also download Cody Krieger's gfxCardStatus and the the status of your two GPUs at a glance.

Are there any sound cards with best driver support for Arch?

I was wondering if there are any sound cards that have the best driver support for ArchLinux? I currently own a Creative Labs X-FI Platinum Edition. The main reason I like the Platinum is that has an interface you can plug MIDI and Audio ports into. It seems to me, however, that Creative is the worst company to support Linux drivers. If anyone has any opinions, please feel free to comment. According to all my research, ALSA sound drivers are the most supportive for sound. Am I also correct in this assumption?

yeah, creative sucks. go with m-audio. they support linux unlike creative.

HP Envy H8-1540t - dual graphics cards, Pcie 3.0 support

I have 2 questions about using dual graphics cards and Pcie 3.0 support in my machine.
The machine is:
HP Envy H8-1540t
Win 8 64
i7-3820 2nd Gen
10 GB DDR3 1600
256 GB SSD
1 TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
Blu-Ray Player
TV Tuner
Prem wireless N-Lan and Blutooth 2x2
600 Watt PSU
NVidia GTX 660
This machine uses the Pegatron IPIWB-PB motherboard and has 2 Pcie x 16 slots. I realize that by using dual width GPU's like the GTX 660, the smaller Pcie slots next to them will be buried, rendering them useless. So these are my 2 questions;
1.) Will 2 Nvidia GTX 660 GPU's physically fit within the machine and be supported?
2.) Does this motherboard with it's Intel X79 chipset support Pcie 3.0?
