M70-122: Linux can't find a HDD

I have a problem with hdd in my M70-122.I whant to install Linux operation system and when i try to install the Linux tell me "NOT FIND HDD TO INSTALL OPERATION SYSTEM"
I try with differen distribution of Linux but nothing.
And i don't understad wich kind is my HDD ATA Or SATA.
Thanks

Hi
This unit was equipped with a SATA HDD. This could be a reason why its not possible to install the Linux. You have to the drivers before you will continue with the OS installation.
Unfortunately Toshiba doesnt support Linux and you will be not able to find any Linux drivers on the Toshiba website.

  • Disk Warrior can't find my HDD even tho I can boot successfully from HDD

I have a beloved iMac purchased in 3/08. I believe its hard drive is failing b/c sometimes when I turn it on, all goes smoothly while other times, it either won't boot up or hangs. After spending $110 on Disk Warrior, I just rebooted from the Disk Warrior disk so that it can rebuild the directory of the HDD. To my shock and dismay, Disk Warrior can't find any disk other than itself. Why in the world would it not find the HDD if I can in fact successfully boot up from the HDD and run fine (at times)? This theme has been discussed a lot of time here in the forum.
You need SATA drivers in order to install the Windows XP
I recommend searching for some threads here in the forum; search, read and learn

  • 2009 13 MBP can't find the HDD.

I had gotten the gray folder with a ? mark in the middle recently.  Because the system is a little older and from what I have read here I decided to upgrade the HDD.  I installed the new disk, and booted up.  The system used the online recovery to reinstall OSX.  After the install and all updates were completed I placed the old HDD in an external enclosure and connected to USB.  The system recognized the drive and allowed me to use migration assistant to put my MBP back the way it was before it stopped working.  The system was rebooted several times and I conducted a full Time Machine Backup to my network drive over night.  This morning I tried to reply to an email and got the the pinwheel which wouldn't go away.  I rebooted and you guessed it....gray folder with a question mark.
So if the HDD is good, (I now suspect that the old HDD was never bad in the fist place) what should I do?  Is this folder ever caused by software? Or do I have a more serious hardware problem?
    Thanks for any help.

So here is the road I have taken so far.  I have an old Opti Bay unit that I am no longer using.  I pulled the old cable out of the MBP and looked it over, can't see any outside damage (i know this doesn't really mean anything) I placed the HDD in the Opti Bay, hooked everything up and just left the HDD bay empty with the old cable connected to the mainboard.  Pushed power and she fired right up like nothing was wrong.
I found cable 821-0814-A on Amazon for $26 so I will replace that and then put it back together the way it should be and see how it goes from there.

  • Linux: Can't find linkable Gecko library for Firefox 3.6.22

Our servers are running Linux RHEL4 and currently running firefox 2.0.0.8. The environment has hundreds kiosks in support of a manufacturing line. Due to the security concern, we must upgrade to firefox 3.6.22. We've installed 3.6.22 on a test server and have hit a problem with a program that uses the Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT) component. We have been working on this for about a week now, and keep hitting "No more handles" errors as well as
"java: symbol lookup error: /tmp/swtBrowserTest/lib/libswt-mozilla-gtk-3235.so: undefined symbol: _ZN4nsID5ParseEPKc
". Based on this FAQ, http://www.eclipse.org/swt/faq.php#browserlinux. We believe Firefox 3.6.22 does not have a linkable Gecko library. We've also tried multiple version of the jre, no change.
How can we check for a linkable gecko library? Is there a test we can run to prove this?
If there is no linkable Gecko library, is this an issue with firefox 3.6.22? Are the any known or suggested workarounds?
The app runs fine when run against firefox 2, or against seamonkey...the only way we have problems is 3.6.22. Updating to a new version of Linux is not an option at this time.

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html

  • IBook (10.4.11) can't "find" wireless HDD?

I currently have a Time Capsule with an USB hub connected with two external drives.
All three (TC, 1.5Tb HDD and 500Gb HDD) show up on my MacBook and MacBook Air (OSX 10.6.4) but this is where the similarities end.
I'm wanting to use my iBook running 10.4.11 as a server so I can stream movies and music wirelessly to my TV via a PS3 which works perfectly with my MacBook(s).
The problem is that the iBook only "sees" the 1.5Tb HDD (where I only have Music and photos) and the TC but not the 500Gb Movie HDD.
How do I add the 500Gb in 10.4.11? I'm not used the network setups on the older OSX but quite ok on 10.5 and 10.6...
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated...
    Cheerio

OK... Think I might have found something.
It's actually at the TC the problem lyes. All of a sudden the USB powered 500Gb is no longer getting power from the TC/HUB, even though the hub is showing the connection as active so therefor it is not visible in my network.
Have now the USB HDD connected directly to my iBook and it's working fine. Not the best option at the moment but don't have a choice as I have lost the USB hub power supply and don't think the TC is happy supplying al the extra power

    2009 Macbook Pro
M4 128 SSD Work fine before.
Suddenly happend, system not responding. hold power button to turn OFF, then ON again can't find HDD, suspect is SSD HDD problem try plug it on other computer, see all data still there, do HDD verify with out problem. put back macbook original WD HDD, got same problem can't find WD HDD.
Then try reset SMC shift+control+option+power  no help
following try reset PRAM option+command+R+P + ON  no help
what should i do next. any one got same problem with me?
    please advise
    Thanks

it's the cable that goes from your hard drive to your logicboard....those cables have a high failure rate without warning....
to confirm that it's your cable and not your drive, install your drive in an external usb enclosure and if you can boot your macbook when your drive is connected via usb, then it's your sata cable...

  • When installing Windows 8.1, The installation setup can't find my SATA HDD drive

So I wanted to do a clean install of my Windows 8.1 so I formatted my :C (with windows 7 on it) to do so, but i accidentally also formatted the 100 MB of reserved system partition and so none of my bootprograms (like partition wizard and also the windows
8.1 installer) can't find my HDD. It's a Seagate Baracuda 1TB if it might help and yes i checked every connection.
Please help I'm in a hurry

When you post in the Windows 8 area be sure to provide more specific information.  What you have posted is a bit sketchy and needs to be clarified.
I would suggest starting from scratch, boot from the Windows 8.1 install DVD, delete any existing partitions that may show up and then let Windows 8.1 installation take over from there.
If Windows is unable to see the hard drive, you will have to resolve that hardware problem before you can continue with your installation.  It is impossible to diagnose your problem via a sketchy post in an internet forum.

  • MacBook can't boot from HDD

    Hello friends!
Please help me with my macbook late 2009.
I was a problem with SMC conntroller and take mac to service. After one week i took it and all looks good, working for few days without any issues. Today, after 2 hours of use my mac is hung and i use hard reset to reboot it. After reboot, gray screen appears without any action. I tried to reboot it again and again and after 5-10 attempts I see all my disk partitions with recovery mode and tried to start DISK UTILITY to test hdd. Disk utility also hung on scanning disks. I have no luck to tried start it again - always gray screen, question folder or O with /. I tested old hdd with other mac and it's worked fine, I tried to use another, new 1Tb WD HDD 2.5 - connected it and try to power on with recovery flash drive. Mac started without issues and I can boot from flash drive, started disk utility but mac can't find new HDD at all. Please note - I use a lot of methods, tried to reset SMC / PRAM/VRAM without luck. Safe mode also not helped, verbose mode show me "Still waiting root device" error for old HDD, but sometimes mac show all my old disk partitions - after I chose Macintosh HD - I see O with / and that's all.
Please help me to figure out issue. I think this not a HW issue... but why mac not show new HDD? Really very strange problem, all day with tests w/o luck..SMC controller looks to be working fine - mac starts, charge battery, cooler speed is managed by motherboard fine.
May be new HDD is incompatible?
    Old HDD -
    Looking forward for your suggestions.

Looks like this is hdd flex cable issue... I just move it when mac starts and partition select menu appears instead of grey screen or question mark. When I select partition (recovery or macintosh hd) after 20-30 seconds I see O w /.
Can anyone confirm that this might be? I will order new flex so this should be solution or not? I read a lot of google links and see that this is often problem for 2009-2010 macs.
    Still waiting your advices
Apple should improve these type of cables as this not reliable as I think.

  • Copied files to USB HDD - now can't find them!

I had to reinstall my wife's macbook so I backed up all her files to a USB HDD formatted as MS-DOS (FAT) [according to disk utility]
I then reinstalled and tried to find the files which do not show up on the USB HDD (shoulda checked!)
I've seen posts alluding to having the drive formatted Journalised but they all refer to having done that FIRST.
Are my files history? Is there any way to get them back? Help!

Thanks so much for helping me with this.
I must admit, I didn't pay too much attention when importing this "test"
group of photos to LR4, therein lies my problem.  Now that I look at the
    import settings that were used:
    1. Files were not added or copied, they were "moved" to a new location and
    also renamed.
    2. Files were renamed starting with "264" using my regular import template.
Listed below are the first 10 photos with their original LR3 and he
    changed LR4 names.
    1201_001 changed to 1201_264-2
    1201_002 changed to 1201_265-2
    1201_003 changed to 1201_266-2
    1201_004 changed to 1201_267-2
    1201_005-Edit-Edit changed to 1201_268-2
    1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_269-2
    1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_270-2
    1201_005-Edit-Edit-2 changed to 1201_271-2
I have a back up of my images on an EHD from several days ago which has the
original file names, but this backup only has 203 of the 268 images I
    imported yesterday and are renamed.
    Thanks again,

  • C++ - JNI on a SuSe Linux - Can't seem to find my Java files

    Hi all,
I have been playing around with the JNI for a bit now on my windows box and got it working fine and all :) Now, however, I need to port my stuff to a SuSe linux, and I have started out really basic - just trying to start the JVM too see how that went... badly, would be the answer to that question, in case you were wondering.
I made a really simple textbook example (alot of those, when searching this forum - and searched, I have) to just create myself a JVM. I am not even daring to actually try and find any classes, call methods or anything as bold as that yet.
My example compiles fine, but when I run the program I get this error message:
"Can't find class java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. Invalid class path ?"
Now, please note, this is not the actual NoClassDefFoundError exception being thrown here, but looks to me as if the system wanted to throw that exception object, but couldn't even find the object to throw at me ;-)
This leads me to believe that there's is something really basic wrong with my Java setup here. I can run "java" just fine from the commandline, but it occurs to me, that the JVM, when invoked via the JNI, can't find it's own stuff.
Any suggestion what needs to be done here?
I can post code if that helps, but I doubt that is the problem - as it is really textbook stuff and I can get this stuff to work on Windows. I think the problem is "external" to my code, as it happens before I even try to use the JVM. Maybe some env vars needs to be set? I have manually tried to export a CLASSPATH variable, just to see if that helped - I even tried adding full path to core.jar in my "-Djava.class.path" property ;-)
I have tried removing and adding the Java RPM's again (Java version 1.4.1 FYI) to no avail aswell.

    Hi,
As you hv started working on JNI. You must know the following things.
    1. If you want to work on Windows they must hv to hv a .dll file of your c/C++ program while on linux you should have .so file. i.e. shared object file.
    2. On Linux you should set LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to your the path where you have stored your .so file.
Let me know if you do have above things and still getting error.
    - Uday
P.S. You will find help on internet abt How to make dll's and .so file?

  • Can no longer find External HDD

Ok so, last night I had a rough time with my MacBook Pro (startup wasn't working correctly) so I took it down to my local Apple Store today, where they formatted the entire hard drive. Luckily, I've been using my 500gb WD external hard drive to back up everything! So now I'm home, and I plug in my external HDD, and it doesn't come up on my desktop nor in finder. I tried to use Migration Assistant, but it can't find it, and Disk Utility doesn't see it either.
I know the USB ports still work, because I can plug in my mouse just fine. So what happened? Why doesn't my MacBook Pro recognize it anymore?
p.s. The HDD lights up and you can hear it spinning just fine, just like before. This problem has never happened to me before.

Sorry I wasn't clear, but when I pull up Disk Utility, my portable HDD does not appear.
I tested it by plugging it into my family's desktop (a Windows machine) and it pulled it up just fine. This means there's something wrong with my Mac...what can it be?
