M9400f wont startup

I have this problem with my computer M9400f. It came with Vista, and I upgraded to Win 7 hoping to solve the problem, but to no avail. I have searched the net and HP support and any other source that remotely suggested a solution.
The problem is if I shut it down, it will not restart for some time. When I shut it down, the green light on the power supply stays on for bit before going out. I turn it back on and the green light comes on, but the power button gets no response and does not light up when you push it. Sometimes I have to turn it off and let it sit a while and then turn it back on and wait for the green light on the power supply and then wait another while and if I am lucky and time it right it will boot up. If not I start all over again. It will restart from the start button for updates, etc. but you cannot shut it down and get it to reboot. I have been through all of the trouble shooters on HP and Ask.com, Fixya.com etc. to no avail. I was going to put in a new power supply, howver the one I oprdered did not fit even tho I ordered it for this computer. One other problem is that when the computer goes into sleep mode or hibernation, the only way to recover is to shut down. I am then back to the same problem as before, I can't boot up. I remedied this by locking out the sleep and hibernate modes in the power management. At this time I am running the computer none stop day and night. However if I have a power blurp I am back at square one.
I posted this on a reply to a post with the same problem, but marked "SOLVED" and I thought maybe the people looking at it thought my problem was solved also, but it has not been solved so I posted it to a new thread in hopes that someone could help me.

From the steps taken, it seems to hint that you had the right conclusion in replacing the power supply. I cannot really tell from the product page, but from the case type, it would indicate a standard ATX power supply would be correct. I would would remove the existing Power supply, take measurments and start looking from a well known source IE: http://www.newegg.com/Power-Supplies/SubCategory/ID-58
Something around 400-500 watts would be great.

A flashing disk icon means the bootloader that starts up your Mac can't find a suitable startup disk. Something happened to the internal HDD to cause this, the damage may be repairable or not.
Ive tried inserting the installation disk and reinstalling it but the destination window is empty [i dont see my disk]...please help with a fix...
It can't see the disk for the same reason that the bootloader couldn't. Let's try to see if it is fixable before reinstalling everything and losing all your settings. Since you already are able to start up from the Install CD/DVD, go to the Utilities menu and select *Disk Utility*. There, check and see if the HDD device appears on the left column. Under and indented you should see the volume by name.
If the device does not appear, then it is really hosed and you will need a new one.
If it appears, with or without the volume, it means it is damaged but may be repairable. Click on the device and do a *Repair Disk*. If it says there are errors, repeat *Repair Disk* until it comes out clean with no more errors. After that, reboot and see if the Mac will start up correctly. When it does, run Disk Utility again (it is found inside the startup volume's Utilities folder) and do a *Repair Disk Permissions*. If all is well, you'll be a happy camper and your Mac will live to see another day.
If you can't get the *Repair Disk* procedure to come out without errors, it means that the damage is more severe and Disk Utility can't repair it. You can either get heavier duty tools, like TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior, or you can choose to format the HDD and reinstall afresh. Note that you will lose everything. If you decide to format and the formatting has errors, it also means the drive is permanently damaged and will need to be replaced.
Let us know how it turned out and welcome to Apple Discussions.

• Disk Utility wont startup

I'm trying to start Disk Utility (under mac os 10.4.8, intel) but it wont startup. It bounces one time in the dock and then dissapers.
I tried a copy of an other computer, but the same problem. I Repaired Permissions in the terminal. I've reset my P ram.
This didn't work at all. Anyone an idea?

Wow, that's not good.
The first four bytes of a "Universal" Mach-O loadable object and/or executable should be (in hexadecimal representation, which is what the "0x" prefix signifies):

0xCAFEBABE

but instead, it's saying that the first four bytes are:

0xCC8B45D0

In other words, the internal data of the file has been altered or is otherwise incorrect so that it's unusable.
Before doing anything else, I would, if you haven't already done so, startup from your Install DVD/CD and use Disk Utility to make sure your disk directory checks out okay. Use the Verify/Repair Disk buttons to do this. How to repair this problem short of an Archive and Install is a bit tricky.
What exactly did you try copying from another Mac? That could work, but you need to make sure that you only copy it from a Mac of the same architecture: Intel-Mac to an Intel-Mac and PowerPC to a PowerPC Mac. Note that the Disk Utility application itself is most likely fine, there's no need to copy that. What you want to copy is the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskImages.framework/. Copy that "DiskImages.framework" folder from another Intel-based Mac and put it into the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ folder on your (damaged) Mac. Replace the existing copy. (You'll need to click the "Authenticate" button to enter your password in order to accomplish this). Then try launching Disk Utility to see if it will launch successfully.
Hope this helps....

My suggestion is to navigate to the Apache home and startup Apache manually. The console window will let you know if there is something wrong with the configuration files.

• My macbook wont startup

my macbook wont startup, i have tried using the PRAM reset and I hear the second start up chime and then it says start up disk is full and the screen stays blue. What can I do?

Prior to this, were you getting messages indicating that your start up disk was "almost" full... suggesting you you clear up some space? Was your machine running very slow or possibly frequently crashing?

• G5 Wont Startup

Hey Guys!
So I have a G5 tower that wont startup. Heres whats going on:
-When I try to start it up normally it gets to the spinning grey wheel then turns off.
-Resetting the PRAM does nothing. I might need a new PRAM battery but I'm not sure if that explains the symptoms. I ordered a new one though, should be here soon.
-When I try to boot off a Tech Tool Pro DVD I get a kernel panic screen, that says You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button blah blah blah... The text on the screen ends with BSD process name corresponding to current thread:kernel_task
-Tried to boot off the Tech Tool DVD with the HD unplugged, same error.
-When I try to start up in safe mode it stays on the spinning grey wheel for a couple of minutes, then turns off.
-In single user mode ran fsck -y and it returns:
disk0s3: I/O error.
Invalid node structure
(4,275)
**Volume check failed
/dev/rdisk0s3 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
and then says
'PowerManagement emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep!'
Over and over.
-I reset the nvram in open firmware earlier, which did nothing, but now when I try to start up in open firmware the screen just stays black and nothing happens.
-Earlier, booting in verbose mode would return some errors, then shut down immediately, but now its just goes to a black screen as well.
-Resetting the PMU didn't do anything.
-Switched the RAM around, so I'm pretty sure its not a problem with the RAM, or the RAM slots.
Any ideas on what's going on or what I should do next? Or should I just wait for the new PRAM battery? Thanks for helping!

Any areas I should concentrate on?
CPU heatsinks, Video card, RAM, Fans, Power supply.
about a foot away from my 10' sub. Could that have caused the damage?
I wouldn't think so, at least yet.
So how would I go about fixing the HD? TDM maybe?
Yes, but I think we have to take care of the heat issue first.

my MacBook Air wont startup after login???

Try to boot your computer in Safe Mode: restart and hold the shift key down.
This can take some time, so be patient.

If thyis leads to the computer booting, you can restart without holding the shift key down.

• PowerMac G5 Wont Startup - Dead Battery???

Hey yall, I have a 1.6 GHz BASE model PCI G5 with 4gigs of ram (maxed) and 80 gig hdd. My concern is that I unplugged it for a schedued power outage, and now it wont boot back up. Worked fine before. I replaced the PSU just in case, but same thing happens. The light on the front stays on for a second, then shuts off. No internals can be heard turning on. It has a 3rd party power cord, but it has been working just fine - first one was getting worn. Any ideas? Could it be the "VRAM Battery"? Thanks

Hello,
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...

• 20 inch imac wont startup or re-install OS

hi folks
i had been off work for 4 weeks due to a knee op and on my return i was informed my 20 inch imac wont start up.
it chimes then the grey apple appears, but the circular bar at the bottom just keeps ticking away, nothing at all, even left it for 15 minutes.
So i tried the command option PR, second chime went fine, then the same thing.
So i launched from the install CD, this gave me the option to reinstall my OS and archive the old one, retaining all my user settings, i opted for this and it failed to install twice, saying i should retry the installation.
any ideas?
i am contemplating using it as a T target disc and grabbing my necessary files then re-formatting.

hopefully they mean expedite rather than escalate? but who knows with apple support!
Basically I wondered the same as you, what if we only had one mac????
I guess i would be mac-less and they would resolve things, i think it is under warranty still.
T mode is achieved by pressing T upon startup, this turns your mac into an accessible hard drive via firewire, you are in T (transfer i think) mode once the firewire logo floats around the screen and this enabled me to grab everything essential and stick it on my MBpro.
T mode is also an option when first installing, and transfers everything over from an old or alternate mac, internet connnections, applications, network settings, the lot, it is absolute genius compared to the old mac days!
If your machine is stil under warranty then the least they can do is replace it if they cannot fix it!!!!

My iMac wont start up.when I turn it on all that happens is the fan starts and the welcome chimes go off.

(specs:G4 1.25 Ghz, 80gb original HD, 256mb of factory memory, Mac OS Tiger 10.4.3, super drive,)

Start your system from your Mac OSX DVD - to be able to do so you have to hold the 'c' key on your keyboard while launching the machine, that way the tray will open enabling you to instert the DVD. You have to hold the key until the tray opens. Then open disk utility and first try to repair the startup HDD and then repair permissions on the volume. Reboot and observe the results. Hope this helps. If that doesn't help then there could be another reason - the system battery (which keeps for instance the clock settings). When it's old it can cause your system not to start up.

• Laptop wont startup

i have a HP pavillion laptop teat wont boot at all...
this hppened several days ago, but after a few minutes just pressing the power button on and on, it somehow booted up
just today i tried to startup my computer and its happening again. when i press the power button the screen stays black, the lights come on, and after 3 to 35 seconds it turns off, as if i took out the battery while it was on. I tried to boot it with no wires attached (charger, cooling fan, ethernet cord) and still nothing, I tried to take out my battery and let the charger run the power, still nothing. all it does is turn off, it doesnt even go to the screen that has the HP logo where i have the option to boot wnidows to safe mode.
What's going on here?
P.S. I'm still under my 2-year accidental warranty from best buy, if i take the computer to the nearest best buy, will it be covered?

Like Nokia said, as long as it's not damage from neglect or abuse you'll be covered. Before you bring it in though, try taking out the battery, unplugging it, and holding down the power button for 10-20 seconds. It's possible, though not exactly likely, that this will fix the problem. If you're really lucky it may be an issue with your mobo and you could get a new pc

• OSX wont startup!!

Everytime I try to boot OSX it just turns off. No error. Screen just turns off. I also have a Bootcamp partition with Windows 8 installed. I can still boot into windows and access the Macintosh HD from it but it wont start. I've recently been using windows alot and haven't been using OSX. I use a 2011 MBA, so what do I do?

Windows 8 is not supported in Boot Camp, and the consequences of installing it are unpredictable. I suggest you back up all data, including Windows data, and repartition the internal drive by booting into Internet Recovery (command-option-R at startup.) Reinstall OS X and restore your Mac data from a backup. Then, if you wish, run Boot Camp Assistant and create a Windows partition. Install Windows 7 on it. If you want to run Windows 8, run it on a PC.
