M9458f desktop, running Win 7, freezes on HP screen. F keys are unresposive.

When it turn on my desktop it only gets to the, blue, HP screen and hangs.  I can't get any response from it.  The F keys do nothing.
It did it once, about 5 months ago.  I shut it down and it restarted fine afterwards and has been running great for months.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Do you hear any beeps?
Remove all USB devices (except the keyboard and mouse), media cards and be sure the optical drive(s) are empty.
Have you tried a differnet keyboard and mouse?
Open up your PC and unplug the hard drive(s), optical drive(s) and remove any PCI card. Be sure to make where the cables are to be reconnected.   If you have a video card then use the on board VGA video connector.  What are your results?

Using Acrobat 9 Standard on desktop running Win 7 32Bit - and an HP1536dnf MFP  -  Scanner function won't run - message states that driver missing  - have tried to re-load original software many times from CD and download from HP website - that times out.  Have tried many times to load in just driver - won't load-in.  Have tried the unplug from power source and turning off firewall.  Nothing works.  Paid a lot of money for Acrobat and very helpful tool when I was running WinXP, but out of business since loading Win7 . . . . . . . Please help?

That sounds you are having a problem with the scanner driver, not Acrobat.  Are you installing the Windows 7 drivers with the correct bitness?

Downloaded new iOS for iPhone 5. Now the handset is running hot, keeps freezing on different screens, won't charge on official charger ( only charges on crap poundland one) and battery is loosing 1% every two minutes! I've closed all apps and reset the complete phone but no luck. Any one know what else I can try apart from a new phone?

I have done a factory reset at 45% battery. After the reset it's still hot and at 35% now

  • Installation Photoshop Elements 13 Upgr. 32-Bit-Version on Desktop running Win 8.1 64-Bit

I try to upgrade my Photoshop Elements 12 Version to Version 13. Version 12 (32 Bit) is running on PC with Win 8.1 64 Bit. Upgade to Version 13 (32 Bit) is not possible (error: 32 Bit version can not installed with Win 64 Bit system). If I try to install 64 Bit Version of Photoshop 13, I get the information, that there is no original version found on PC.
    What can I do?

As far as the "no original version" goes, you should also be able to select an option to enter the name and serial number of the older (aka original) version instead of having it already installed.

  • Mac Pro 1,1 freezes on boot screen, hard drives are accessible via network

My Mac Pro 1,1 today failed to display anything on the monitors when I woke it from sleep mode, even though it sounded like it was running.
Upon restarting the computer, it chimed as usual, made fan and hard drive spinning sounds, and went to the boot screen, where the little grey, dashed circle went around for a little while, but then it froze.
The hard drives kept making noises, so I waited, but nothing happened.
    So I tried the following things;
    • Restarted
    • Zapped PRAM
    • Unplugged USB devices
    • Disconnected power cable for over 15 seconds
    • Pushed PMU reset button
    • Tried to boot from Snow Leopard DVD
    • Pushed on graphics cards and RAM risers to make sure they were seated
    • Looked inside computer to see if anything looked out of place (nothing really)
    • Smacked side
    Nothing helped.
Even when I tried to boot from the Snow Leopard DVD, it did the exact same thing; showed the boot screen, spun a little, froze.
I got on my MacBook Pro and was able to access the hard drives over my WiFi network, so I know the computer is running on some level.
This computer has been running slowly for awhile, which I attributed to running out of disk space and having lots of browser windows open, and I think it had a couple of kernel panics recently.  Also the monitors went haywire a couple of weeks ago after I shut the computer down while it was running on UPS power,  but I was able to fix one by doing a factory reset.  I don't know if any of that is related to this problem.
Also, I currently have both the factory graphics card and a more powerful graphics card for GPGPU simultaneously installed (forget the model number, but it's the one that dies and you have to bake it to make it work again).  It's not glitching up at all though; just spinning a little on the boot screen and freezing.  I tried unplugging one of the monitors from the graphics card I had it connected to and plugging it into the other one, but it didn't make any difference.
I also recently ran disk first aid on all my hard drives and it said they were fine.
    Any ideas???
    Anyone have any ideas?

The Boot screens use a very simple mode of display, typically shared by Safe Mode, Alt/Option boot, Recovery mode and stand-alone Installer. Once you get to the login screen, the Driver loads and the most complex interrupt-driven parts of your graphics card must be working to display a picture.
The cards in older Mac Pros do not have a history of long, trouble-free life. There are many, many threads here that are solved by replacing the card, especially with a more modern one.

    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HP Pavillion running Win 8.1 OS- wired keyboard has frozen up

The keyboard has frozen up on my fairly new HP Pavilion Slimline desktop running Win 8.1 . The numbers lock light is on and the Microsoft Home button works but nothing else works. I have checked all connections and have tried another keyboard with the same results. The wired connection was originally a PS2 connected thru an adapter cable connecting to the new desktop by USB connection. Any suggestions?

    Jwise2, welcome to the forum.
When requesting help you should always include the make/model (i.e. p6-xxxx) of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.  Also, what is the model of the keyboard?

  • MacBook Pro started running slow and freezing up

    Hi,
What are some things I can do when my MacBook Pro starts running slow and freezing up?  For example, windows are slow to open, and that pinwheel thing keeps spinning.  Clean up tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    tamyc,
    You can try resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller;
    You can try booting into Safe mode, to see whether it runs just as slowly (and freezes up) then;
    You can try disabling your antivirus software, to see if that makes a difference;
You can download, install, and run EtreCheck, and include in your reply the output from an EtreCheck run, which might help identify software which should be uninstalled or updated.

Eww, thanks for your reply, as it makes good sense, and common sense is practical when you walk into an Apple store.
I guess all the reviews and great specs of the new MB pro's made me want one...
I should probably use my current setup till it is totally outdated or simply is beyond repair.
I could ask Santa Claus for one, but by than, the 2012's will be coming out..:)
Thanks Eww for your reply, IAN....

  • Is possible connect XFi 2 to a PC desktop that run Win 2000 SP4?

My brother bought the MP4 XFi 2 in USA. I come from Argentina and I?ve got a PC desktop that run Win2k SP4. Is possible connect XFi 2 with firmware compatible with Win XP SP2 to a PC desktop that run Win 2000 SP4. I only want to connect it to PC and submit files since and to PC. What problems could I have got? If I do that the PC would be able to recognize it or become instable? What do you think? Sorry my poor english but I speak spanish. I would very grateful if somebody answer and help me if it possible. Thanks.

The HP Pavilion is a computer, and not a modem. Or rather it is a computer with a built-in modem. So you already have a computer to run your programs and no other computer is needed.
About the display, a major advantage of the Thunderbolt display is a function of the Thunderbolt interface and its ability to support multiple I/O technologies including Thunderbolt, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2, and Firewire 800 in addition to the video signal. I know of no adaptor, or PC compatible display card that will enable all of that from a computer that was not built with Thunderbolt built in.
However, if you are primarily interested in the 27" display, then Apple's LED display will work quite nicely with an appropriate $35 adaptor available through the Apple Store. Which particular adaptor you need depends on the video output port on the PC. SInce you say it is an old HP Pavilion, it probably has a VGA or SVGA video port.

  • Trying to connect the RD app to remotely control a laptop running Win 7 Pro 64bit

Can you please advice which changes I need to do on the Win 7 laptop to be able to connect to it from the RD client app? thanks!

    Hi,
If the device you runs the RD App and your Windows 7 laptop are in the same network, you can just refer to the steps in this article to configure your Windows 7.
Allow someone to connect to your computer using Remote Desktop Connection
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/allow-someone-to-connect-to-your-computer-using-remote-desktop-connection
However, if they are not in the same network, you may also need to configure your network device.
Allow Remote Desktop connections from outside your home network
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/allow-remote-desktop-connections-from-outside-your-home-network
    Hope this helps.
