MA - unable to migrate servers or test Disaster recovery

HI
I have created a test environment for MA and "everything is green" - two servers showing as protected with Diff Sync on both.  No alerts etc.
I am now looking to test options, i have
1. Created a DR test and it shows as having no failback option so cannot proceed, I cannot find where to create one
2. Attempted to failover a server is shows as evaluating requirements for 36 hours, no steps beyond that
3. Attempted to migrate a server from the MA portal, I select a server "on the left" but the server never appears under selected hosts (it is showing as replicated).
Are there limitations to the preview etc that I need to be aware of?
regards
Jason

Maybe this will help.

  • SharePoint 2010 backup and restore to test SharePoint environment - testing Disaster recovery

    We have a production SharePoint 2010 environment with one Web/App server and one SQL server.
    We have a test SharePoint 2010 environment with one server (Sharepoint server and SQL server) and one AD (domain is different from prod environment).
    Servers are Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2.
    Versions are the same on prod and test servers.
    We need to setup a test environment with the exact setup as production - we want to try Disaster recovery.
    We have performed backup of farm from PROD and we wanted to restore it on our new server in test environment.Backup completed successfully with no errors.
    We have tried to restore the whole farm from that backup on test environment using Central administration, but we got message - restore failed with errors.
    We choosed NEW CONFIGURATION option during restore, and we set new database names...

    Could you please help us to resolve these issues?

    I'd totally agree with this. Full fledged functionality isn't the aim of DR, getting the functional parts of your platform back-up before too much time and money is lost.
    Anything I can add would be a repeat of what Jesper has wisely said but I would very much encourage you to look at these two resources: -

  • Applying archivelogs to test disaster recovery database

    Database: 10.2.0.2
    OS: RHEL
    Goal: (1) To test the ability to rebuild a database using backupset and archivelogs.
    (2) To roll forward the test DR database by applying archivelogs from the production database.
    I am using rman but not a catalog.
    I restored and recovered the production database to a new, separate server, making a second database with the same DBID. I felt proud of myself for a moment.
    The production database now has archivelogs past the time of the backup that was restored and recovered to the test DR database. In a simulated production database failure, I want to apply those archivelogs to the DR database in order to roll forward the DR database to the point of failure in the production database. Everyone except me seems to know how to do this. I feel a lot less proud now.
    Yes I have read the rman manuals, all of them, and several times - yes, I have read through the forums and read asktom and metalink. I must be unintentionally overlooking some crucial info and concepts.
    My production database has generated archivelogs passed the last sequence known to my DR database. I don't know how to tell the DR database to recover these new archivelogs.
    Another post on this form directs one to use the command: "recover database until cancel". I get a syntax error. So I tried recover until time, which runs, but does not apply the new archivelogs. Must I update the DR database controlfile with a post-last-backup copy from the production database in order to apply these archivelogs? Must a catalog be used?
    Thank you for any assistance.

    What seems to work is:
    1) to restore the database using the controlfile from the backup,
    2) to issue the command 'alter database recover until cancel using backup control file' from sqlplus,
    3) to respond to each ORA-00279 with 'alter database recover continue default' also from sqlplus and until all the archivelogs have been applied, including archivelogs with sequences subsequent to the backup, then 'alter database recover cancel'.
    4) to issue the command 'alter database open resetlogs'.
    The above steps allow the available archivelogs to roll the database forward beyond the point in time recorded at the time of the hot backup.
    Metalink Note:161742.1 was helpful determining this information, yet it seems to conflict with Tom Kyte's statement that one should avoid using the backup controlfile whenever possible: http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:::::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID:894628342039#29824708782039
    Perhaps the conflict is due to the difference between a restore/recovery and a restore/recovery to a new server?
    Do the above steps seem to be the best practice for restoring/recovering a database to a new server?
    Thank you.

  • Not able to create disaster recovery VMM -- ovm pool / repository ownership issue

    I have installed VMM and VMS and create a server pool with 3.0.2 version.
    To test disaster recovery, I rebuild the VMM with the old UUID by
    runInstaller.sh --uuid 0004fb00000100002ae.....
    and restore the repository database.
    The new VMM (same IP as old one) can recognize the VMS but can not complete the clone process. Couple hours later, all VMSs reboot and the event showed: server cluster is down. After that, I can clone the VM from template as before. But I when I use "Edit the server pool" to assign Master Server, it show:
    OVMRU_000039E Cannot perform operations. Server pool: VMSP1, is owned by another manager.
    How to query the owner of Server pool and how to fix?
    Thanks,

  • EBS 11i Disaster Recovery using tape backup on alternate Unix Server.

    Hi,
    I would really appreciate if you could please share with us what is the process to recovery EBS 11i environment to an alternate DR server using the latest tape backup in case any disaster happens to the existing production server.
    I need to prepare and test disaster recovery plan document using the latest tape backups.
    We have single node EBS 11i environment with Apps and DB installed on the same AIX Unix Server.
    We also have full database RMAN backup every night.
    The new alternate DR Unix server will have different hostname and IP address.

    Your source database was 64bit. You are recovering to a 32bit platform.
    The wordsize has to be changed.
    After the RECOVER, you must STARTUP UPGRADE and run $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql

    Using the personal hotspot feature on the iPhone 5, I am able to connect to the internet.  We also use Juniper NCP client to access our local system from a remote location.  A VPN connection is created, but I am unable to access servers in our network.  This same functionality works using my colleagues iPhone 4.
    Both phones are running iOS 6.1.3.  I tried to reset network settings, but still unable to ping servers in our network.  This is a feature that our sales team relies heavily on when out of the office.  Hoping someone has some suggestions on what is different between the 2 phones.

    Hi,
    Generally, this issue should be related with something called split tunneling, since you’re using a F5 vpn client, you need to look for something related to split tunneling in the F5 VPN client's documentations.
    Here is an example, share it with you as a reference.

  • When deploying to Weblogic Server, JDeveloper is unable to list servers

    I have created a BPEL project using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.
    Have created an Integration Server in the JDeveloper Application Server tab. While deploying the project using this Integration Server profile, JDeveloper is unable to list out servers. As a result, the NEXT button is grayed-out and the deployment prematurely halts and cannot continue any further.
    When deploying to Integrated Weblogic Server, JDeveloper is unable to list servers.
    I have taken the following actions:
    In JDeveloper, the proxy setting was initially turned off. So, I have turned it on and given it a try too.
    I have also gone through the proxy settings in my JDeveloper, proxy connection test was successful. I still dont see servers during development.
    I have also followed all steps on JDeveloper Help Tutorial on "41 Deploying SOA Composite Applications" and no success.
    Issue can be reproduced as below:
    The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
    1. Create a SOA BPEL Composite
    2. Try Deploying the Composite
    3. In the JDeveloper Deploy Wizard, notice the SOA server is not listed.
    Please advice.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I am having the same issue, were you able to resolve this, would you be so kind to let me know what was the fix?
    I have JDEV 11.1.1.6, both my admin servers and managed servers are up and running, I can create Application Server connection with no problem, but I don't see any servers under SOA servers list when trying to deploy a composite.
    Thank you,

  • Disaster Recovery Test

    Hi,
      Can anybody please guide, who'll play the major role in "Disaster Recovery Test"
    like functional / basis / abap etc,,,

    Hello Mahesh
    Everybody has to play a major role , first Basis has to take action then abaper and then for testing Functional people required to put their effort.here is brief excerpt from an article regarding "Disaster recovery for SAP".
    It will give all of us an idea about Disater recovery.
    When you have your SAP system installed, you don't have a disaster recovery solution.
    "SAP has standard methodologies for doing backups and restoring the SAP environment, but there's nothing built into their application that specifically targets disaster recovery,"
    In other words, SAP tells you very explicitly what you need to protect, but you're on your own in figuring out how to make it happen. It is common practice among third-party solution providers to ask about disaster recovery, but if you're doing your own thing it is important to be aware of the need for a disaster recovery solution.
    Outsourcing vs. building a secondary site:
    There are two ways to go about setting up your disaster recovery solution: Outsource or build your own secondary site. Outsourcing may be more convenient and less expensive, especially for smaller companies on a tight budget. Simply approach the outsourcing company with your needs, and they will pretty much take it from there. Graap likens it to an insurance policy, where you pay a premium on an ongoing basis for the security.
    If you decide to outsource, ask colleagues for recommendations and spend some time researching prices, which can vary a lot. But make sure the outsourcer can step up to the plate in the unlikely event that you need their services.
    Building your own secondary site requires a larger investment up front but the leaves you in full control of your contingency plans rather than be at the mercy of an outsourcing company. If your outsourcing provider falls through for some reason -- such as being in the same disaster zone as your main office during an earthquake for example -- you're in trouble. When building your own site, you can prepare for more scenarios and place it far enough away from your main office.
    High availability vs. cost:
    Specialists say one of the most important questions to consider is availability and how quickly you need to get your systems back online. The difference between getting back online in 10 minutes or three days could be millions of dollars, so you want to make sure you get just the right solution for your company.
    Around-the-clock availability will require mirroring content across two sites in real-time. This enables you to do an instant failover with little or no downtime, rather than force you to physically move from the office to a backup site with a stack of tapes.
    Regardless of whether you outsource or set up your own site, a high availability solution is expensive.
    "But if that is what it takes to keep your business from going under, it's worth every penny of it".
    An added benefit of having a high availability solution is that you can avoid maintenance downtime by working on one server while letting the other handle all traffic. In theory, this leaves a window of risk, but most maintenance tasks, such as backups, can be cancelled if need be.
    One consideration for mirroring data is the bandwidth to the secondary site. Replicating data in real-time requires enough capacity to handle it without hitches. Also, a secondary site will require the same disk space as your regular servers. You can probably get away with a smaller and cheaper system, but you still need enough storage space to match your primary servers.
    Whatever the choice for disaster recovery, it is vital that both the technology and the business departments know about the plan ahead of time.
    Testing your solution:
    Ok, so you have a disaster recovery solution in place. Great, you're home free, right? Not quite. It must be tested continuously it to make sure it works in real life. Sometimes management can be reluctant to spend the money for a real test, or perhaps there are pressing deadlines to keep but it should be tested one or two times a year.
    Many people who build good plans let them sit collecting dust for years, at which point half the key people in the plan have left or changed positions.Update the names, phone numbers and other vital information frequently and test them, he said. It is for the same reason you do fire drills: When the real thing strikes, there's no room for error.
    In testing, consider different scenarios and the physical steps needed to get the data center up and running. For example, many disaster recovery solutions require at least parts of a staff to get on a plane and physically move to the secondary location. But September 11 showed how that is not easy when all planes are grounded.
    Costly but vital:
    Disaster recovery is not cheap, and it requires lots of testing to stay current, but it could save your critical data.
    "Any customer who makes an investment in SAP is purchasing an enterprise-class application, and as such really should have this level of protection for their business". "I can't imagine why anybody would not have an interest in disaster recovery."
    Regards
    Yogesh

    Hello,
    you can check it at GlassFish Admin console (usually running on port 4848).
    You need to log on to Admin console with the (default) or changed password (depends if you changed it during installation).
    There you could see your web service deployed (usually in the "folder" Web services).
    If you can see it you should see also wsdl - for your web service.

  • Unable to create a simple test client. Got ConfigException: JBO--33001

    I am trying to create a simple test client as per ADF training manual. Have just created an empty AM. The test client is giving this error at runtime.
    The test client looks like:
    public static void main(String args[])
    String amDef = "test.TestModule";
    String config = "TestModuleLocal";
    ApplicationModule am =
    Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(amDef, config);
    // Work with your appmodule and view object here
    Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(am, true);
    Getting the following error
    Exception in thread "main" oracle.jbo.ConfigException: JBO-33001: Cannot find the configuration file /test/common/bc4j.xcfg in the classpath

    I have added JAXB and Applications Core libraries to the default library list.
    (added JaxB because of http://myforums.oracle.com/jive3/thread.jspa?messageID=3425268&#3425268
    and Unable to create a simple test client. Error JAXBException
    I have checked that /home/aagupta/jdevhome/home/aagupta/jdevhome/FusionJdev/mywork/Test2/TestProj/classes/amit/bc4j/common/bc4j.xcfg file exists.
    I even tried to add this directory using Add lib/directory pane, but no help.
    Please suggest what to do...
    Thanks,
    Amit

    Got it....i paid the price of not understanding the error messages and expecting bc4jclient and ctrl+enter is a magic wand :)
    Thanks to Steinmeier,Oliver http://myforums.oracle.com/jive3/thread.jspa?messageID=3408700&#3408700
    The shortcut only generates sample code. We need to substitute the actual AM location.
    public static void main(String args[])
    String amDef = "amit.bc4j.model.TestAM";
    String config = "TestAMLocal";
    ApplicationModule am =
    Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(amDef, config);
    System.out.println("Read the messages!");
    // Work with your appmodule and view object here
    Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(am, true);
    }

  • How to migrate Planning from Production to Disaster-Recovery server?

    We are using Planning 11.1.1.3 Oracle repository. Presently our DR Planning Application name is different than production's name, and the DR's Windows server names are different from Production's. Otherwise, all other configuration the same.
    How do we migrate Planning from Production to Disaster-Recovery server? We stopped Planning on DR server. Then we exported production planning Oracle repository and imported it to DR Planning. We restarted DR's Planning. DR planning seems to be running fine, but I am afraid to click "Refresh Planning" on DR Planning - it might update Production server. So how can I be sure DR and Production planning are disconnected ?
    Is there anything we need to do? This method seems to be faster than migrating with LCM.
    Edited by: Essbase Fan on Oct 18, 2010 10:11 AM

    You are definitely go about it the correct way, if you are migrating the whole planning application I have to agree it is a safer and quicker route.
    The connection information to essbase is stored in the planning system database/schema so as long as you have not migrated that then you should be good to refresh.
    To put your mind at rest, log into the planning application and edit the datasource associated with the application then you will see where the essbase server is it is going to refresh.

  • "Unable to Reach Servers" and "Connect to the Internet" Error Messages

    Hi.
    So, I purchased Adobe Audition at $19.99 per month for a year.
    It hasn't worked yet.
    I've tried all the online forum advice - drop firewall, check hosts file, check some certificate, remove/reinstall Audition ...nothing has worked.  I still get messages saying "Unable to Reach Servers" and "Connect to the Internet."  I'm ALWAYS connected to the Internet.
    I use Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-Bit operating system.
    This needs to be fixed, or I want my money back.
    Someone please help.  I'm already 2 days with no access to something I've paid for.  I don't like this.
    -Karen

    Karen did you have any questions regarding the steps listed in Sign in, activation, or connection errors | CC, CS6, CS5.5 - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html.  If your membership is valid then there must be a connection error between the computer and our activation server.
    Are you on a managed network?  Do you utilize a hardware firewall or proxy server?
