Mac 10.5 how to update driver

My powerMac G5 is having issues, which after much troubleshooting, I have narrowed down to a Firewire PCI card.
Short of replacing the card, is there anything else that I can do?
Any and all advice appreciated!

Do'oH!!!!
I'm sorry!
I didn't mean to say "graphics" card. I meant to ask what the make of the FW PCI card is....
There are FW PCI cards that have known issues.
You say "lately"with regard to issues. What changed? External drive make? OS update?
FW cards are sometimes the same as USB cards with regard to mass storage devices. If a drive is mounted and active, when the machine sleeps, it sleeps too. However, when the machine awakens, or is commanded to wake, rather, the system remembers the previous drive state.
Problem is, that just before the PCI bus is powered up, the system stalls looking for the drives that were previously there.
Can't find them and won't, simply due to power on sequencing.
Since your card hasn't given you issues until recently, I would try pulling the card, cleaning the gold contacts with an eraser, and reinstalling the card.
Compatible FW cards typically have alternate power provisions, so it coud just be a card seating issue.

  • Complete mac virgin! How to update from 10.3.7

I brought an imac g5 off of eBay. Local so I know who from. My daughter yanked out the power cable when I had it on, this froze the whole system. After a few weeks I figured I how to reinstall the dics! I was told it was running 10.6.8, but it now says 10.3.7 ): is this the reason I can't download transmission? Or any utorrents. It asks me to update safari but won't let me do that either. Any SIMPLE advice would be great!

    Hi Amelia,
Yes, you can update from 10.3.7 to 10.3.9, no problem.
You should then have the other updates available in your Software Update (Apple menu): remember to choose "Install & Keep Package" if you want to keep backups.
The safest way to update: download the Combo Update from Apple Downloads here:
    - Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9
    Warning: Before the update,
    BACK UP FIRST. Then,
    1) Uninstall Norton Systemworks completely.
Use the Removal Utility (click this --> Norton Support), then use Finder's Find (⌘F) to search for any "Norton" and "Symantec" files left, and delete them.
    2) Run the "cron" scripts and clean users caches with OnyX or whatever other cache-cleaning utility you use.
    3) Restart from your Panther Install DVD and run a Disk Repair with Disk Utility.
If you have DiskWarrior, it is a good time to use it too.
    4) Restart your computer (normally, from Macintosh HD) and run a Permissions Repair with Disk Utility.
    5) Unplug all periphericals, iPods, external HD etc. Just keep the speakers, keyboard and mouse.
    6) Install the Combo Update.
    7) After the required Restart, Repair Permissions AGAIN with Disk Utility.
    8) When you use Software Update for the further updates, remember to Repair Permissions again after each install or update.
    No hurry with Software Update.
Tip: it is safer to install/update only one software at a time.
    Good luck!

  • How to update driver's .conf file?

After write my device node, I changed some status of the module, and I want to save the change to the driver's .conf file. How can I do ?

    Hello.
Is far as I understood you want to change the file "/kernel/drv/xxx.conf" to store your driver's new status there.
I think there are no commands that are explicitely made for modifying the driver's .conf file. The only chance you have is to modify the file directly (by doing fopen(), fwrite() etc.).
There are two ways to do it:
    1) From the driver itself:
You may use the vn_xxx commands defined in <sys/vnode.h>. These commands provide the the functionality of open(), write() etc. for kernel drivers but they are not documented. You may have problems if your driver wants to change the .conf file in an early state of booting (before the file systems are mounted).
    2) Using a helper daemon:
You may write an additional program which runs as seperate process in the background and checks the driver's state every second or every minute. If the state has changed the driver's .conf file is updated. This variant has some advantages:
    - You can use the entire C library (fopen(), ...)
    - You do not use undocumented commands
    - You can create the new .conf file the following way:
    fopen("mydriver.new.conf"...)
    unlink("mydriver.conf")
    rename("mydriver.new.conf","mydriver.conf")
(The advantage doing so is that a system crash while writing to "mydriver.conf" does not result in a bad file!)
    I hope this helps.

  • How to update driver for Xerox printer?

Internal Default driver is FX ApeosPort-III C5500 v3017.104 PS
I've downloaded Version: 1.70.110 (release date: 29/05/2013) for Mac OS X 10.5-10.8 Print Driver from xerox website
The file is "Fuji Xerox PS Plug-in Installer.pkg" and double click to install it successfully.
But how can I choose the latest driver?
When I try to 'Select Printer Sofftware' from Printer Using, it is no dedicated driver for selecion.
    Any suggestions? Many thanks.

At printer general page, the driver version is 2.0 before.
After I followed your step and add the C5500 driver again, the driver version displays 4.0 now.
Just confuse how to verify the driver is latest one as I downloaded Version is 1.70.110 (release date: 29/05/2013)

I have been having troubles like BSOD, NETIO.sys and computer crashes evey 5minutes.
it is now stable without any problems and only the sound driver refuses to install.
Please advise how to update driver for W7 as it is not available on the HP site.

    Hi:
Did you try the Vista driver?  Normally they work fine for W7.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-69143-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=
Another thing you can try is to be connected to the internet. Click on the audio controller in the device manager. Click on the Driver tab.  Click on Update Driver and select the automatic search.
Sometimes W7 will pull down a driver from the Windows Update site.
If the above 2 suggestions don't work, try this driver which seems to be the same as the Vista one, but for Windows 7.

  • Has anyone been able to contact Adobe to learn why their Flash Player does not work on Mac OS 10.6.8, no matter how many updates you install?  This seems like a big error by Adobe.

I have thee Mac computers with Mac OS 10.6.8, one of which is a Mac Pro.  No matter how many updates I install from Adobe, their Flash Player does not work on any of these 3 computers.  I don't know how to contact Adobe Systems about this problem, but I think it is their responsibility to make sure that their so-called "universal" software works proplerly on a relatively recent operating system like OS 10.6.8 that is still in widespread use.  When you install the updates, nothing happens -- not even an error message.  What is the point of a universal player that is not universal?  It works fine on my MacBook Pro with OS 9 Mavericks, but it does not work at all -- indeed, has never worked -- on my 3 Macs with OS 10.6.8.  Has anyone contacted Adobe Systems to find out why the Flash Player does not work with OS 10.6.8 and what they plan to do about it?

Where are you getting Flash from?
Get the appropriate dmg installer here and then run it.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
If it still won't install, do these two things: First uninstall any Flash by going into the second level Hard Drive Library>Internet Plug-ins, and trash the Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt. Then boot into Safe Boot, Shift at the startup chime (give it much longer than a usual boot) and run the installer while booted in Safe Boot.

  • How To update  Mac OSX 10.3.9 (Dual 1.8ghz)

I recently purchased an iPod Classic but it won't operate from my system (Which is lame!) ... I was considering updating from Panther to Tiger or Leopard (they seem to be the same price) ... I've read many posts about the new Leopard's bugs etc., also I'm about to start doing some pre production (music) from home using Pro-Tools --- And I read on the digi design site that Leopard is not compatible with their system as of yet ...After reading the post I'm leaning towards not getting Leopard until Apple works out the kinks - Now Tiger ... on the iPod Classic box it requires Mac OSX 10.4.8 (which I didn't see until I got home) --- It looks like on the apple site that Tiger runs 10.4.6 -- (***??) If I purchase this can I download a Tiger update 10 10.4.8 or higher ? I'm confused and frustrated ---
If I knew this I would have purchased an iPod Video 5th generation from one of the commercial stores (same size) and it runs on Panther... and it cheaper ...
PLEASE someone let me know what my best option would be ... beside returning the iPOD CLASSIC ...
I appreciate any help...and please excuse my frustration...

    Hi Jcverses!
    Here is some additional info.
Exactly which model Mac is it?
    What is the Processor speed?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
Note that the stated System Requirements for any version of OS X, are the bare Minimum.
As roam posted, once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), 10.4.x to 10.4.11 (Pending), and 10.5.x to 10.5.1 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If your Mac meets the Leopard System Requirements. Leopard 10.5.x, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
    Additional info in these links.

    Caveat Emptor!
If any are presently available, examine these items very carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions of the seller before purchase!
    Tiger On eBay
If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.11 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
If Leopard 10.5.x is installed, you would use the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update.
Additionally, Tiger 10.4.x and Leopard 10.5.x, ship on a DVD, so if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.

  • HT3669 Latest Mac OS Update Driver for Canon 9500 Pro causes text lines all to be printed over the first letter of the line?

Anyone know how I can 'fix' the Mac OS printer driver for the Canon 9500 Pro - all my text lines end up with the whole line being printed over the first character of the line of text when printing PDFs. It has ruined a lot of work.

    I'd try this:
Delete the current printer (reset the print system) Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
Delete all other Canon software and utilities from your computer.
Do a factory reset on your printer
Use Software Update to download the driver from Apple.
Don't reinstall any other Canon Utilities.
Make sure you don't have something mechanical stopping the paper from advancing.
If the problem is really the driver, then you could look in Gutenprint for a different driver. Gutenprint for Mac OS X

Does anyone know how to update OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1. to 10.8.2. on a late 2012 Mac mini. All I get are 'not compatible' messages even using supplementary updates etc?

It appears that many of the problems with the HDMI are the "monitors" that are being used. Samsung and Vizeo both DO NOT support a computer input on HDMI only VGA. There probably are others, manuals must be read to confirm compatability.
I strongly believe that the reason the 10.8.2 update was pulled is due to the fact (it happened to me) that the new Disk Utility creates a Fusion drive if aftermarket SSDs are added to the system. I think Apple wants this propriatary Fusion Drive to be something you buy from them not a "homebrew" for lots less money.
