Mac 2.4ghz processor and Lightroom 4

I have a Mac computer with 2.4ghz and 3gb of ram. Can I use Lightroom 4 or do I need to upgrade the computer. Thanks Fred

Here are the system requirements for Lr 4.3 for Mac from Adobe's website:
System requirements
• Processor: Multicore Intel® processor with 64-bit support
• OS: Mac OS X 10.6.8 - 10.8
• RAM: 2GB of RAM
• Hard Disk: 1GB of available hard-disk space
• Display: 1024x768 monitor resolution
• Internet connection required for Internet-based services*
I would like to add that with 2 GB of RAM you won't have much joy using Lr. Gor for at least 8 GB - 12 Gb is better - and you won't need 16 GB.

I am interpreting that to say that the detail panel is missing your develop module. If that is the case, right-click on one of the other panel headings and make sure there is a checkmark for detail.

  • I´m not able to download the mac version of photoshop and lightroom, I always get a download of an .exe file, which I cannot handle.

    No mac version?

    Hi peter314,
Please download CC desktop app via Free Creative Cloud | Download Adobe Creative Cloud free trial and then start downloading Photoshop and Lightroom.
In case that also comes in .exe then download PS and LR via Adobe CC 2014 Direct Download Links – Creative Cloud 2014 Release | ProDesignTools
PS: Please follow the VERY IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS or else the download will not start.

  • Mac OS X Lion and Lightroom 3 import issue

    Hi,
I upgraded to Lion and migrated my applications and data through the migration assistant. Now I have a problem with importing. I use to import by converting to dng from cr2 (Canon EOS 350D), using a card reader. Nothing changed in my setup from Snow Leopard, but now LR gives me an error message, that it can't import the pictures because it can't read them.
I import the files to an external HDD, and I think, there lies the problem. Maybe there is some rights issue. I tried to import to the Desktop, no problem here. Through the Finder, I can move the picture to the external HDD, so generally, it is possibly to write.
Is there any preference file I have to change, that LR will get writing permissions to this HDD back again?
I hope, I made myself clear, as English is not my native language ...
    Thank you for any input!
    vetdoc172
Edit: OK, maybe this is some information. I created a new catalog and tried to import again, now it worked flawlessly. As I like to have my pictures in my main catalog, I would love to find a solution to change some catalog settings or whatever to be able to import to my old catalog, again. Any ideas?
    Message was edited by: vetdoc172

Sorry to have bothered you, but I found the solution myself. As I mentioned before, it was indeed a permissions problem. With LR closed, I right clicked my external HDD and opened "Get Info". Way down, there is an option "Ignore ownership on this volume" which I activated. Now LR can write on this HDD again without any problems.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Do I need a 64 bit processor on my Mac Pro to run CS6 and Lightroom 4?

I would like to install Adobe CS6 and Lightroom 4 on my 2008 Mac Pro but may not have the right processor to run it.  I know I will have to upgrade my OS X 10.5.8 to at least OS X 10.6.8.  The system requirements specify a Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support.  I have a Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor.  Does this mean my Mac will not run this software at all or slowly at best?  Will I only be able to use this software if I buy a new computer?
Here is what I have now:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro3,1
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          2.8 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          2
      Total Number Of Cores:          8
L2 Cache (per processor):          12 MB
      Memory:          6 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.6 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MP31.006C.B05
      SMC Version (system):          1.25f4
      Serial Number (system):
      Hardware UUID:          A120CDBF-0CB3-56FA-9AF2-16F2938C5F0D
    System Software Overview:
      System Version:          Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)
      Kernel Version:          Darwin 9.8.0
      Boot Volume:          Macintosh HD 320
      Boot Mode:          Normal

Please see the tech specs for LR 4 : http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
LR 4 and CS 6 applications will not run on 10.5.8, you need atleast 10.6.8 to run these applications.

  • What Mac Pro specs are best for Photoshop and Lightroom?

I'm about to cross over from PC to Mac. I've got up to 4 grand to blow on it and would like to spend it as wisely as possible. I've decided to take the Mac Pro route, but am unsure what configuration I should go for to keep Photoshop and Lightroom working smoothly. My image file sizes are usually around the 300 Mb mark but they often rise to 700 Mb or more when layers are involved. My so-called powerful Dell PC struggled with these sizes.
Should I do the obvious and go for bucket loads of RAM and as powerful a processor as possible, or are there more effective moves? For example, would 8 core be a worthy improvement over quad core?
My image library is stored on separate drives so I could hold back on hard disc space. If any wiser head can advise I would be grateful. Just don't make the answers too techy. I'm no computer boffin.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Don't buy a MAC PRO now. New ones are to be released in the next weeks (maybe already today as today is Apples WWDC Opening)
    2. Lightroom and Photoshop can use all processor cores you have. So I would go with the cheapest two CPU Model. As an upgrade by example from 2.26 to 2.66 Ghz (current Model) will cost you more then 1400$ for only 15% more processor power which results in maybe 7--10% faster application perfromance.
    3. Don't buy extras at the Apple store.
    4. For the saved 1400$:
4a. get from a third party provider a total of 10-16 GB of RAM (10 are normally sufficient)
4b. Additionally I would suggest to get 2 fast SSD Disks with 128 GB (or if you can afford it) 256 GB . Put them in a RAID 0 Array. Put your OSX Files and Lightroom Catalog, Caches and current work files on it.
4c. Get two 2 Terabyte Drives and run them as RAID 1 for your pictures.  And an additional 2 GB Extra External Firewire 800 or Better eSata Drive for Backup purposes.
Have fun with a very fast machine.
Additional question: How are your current storage devices connected to you computer: USB, eSATA , Ethernet or Firewire?
If you don't know what some things mean, go to a good 3rd Party Apple Seller who gives you fair prices for upgrades.

  • Mac mini good for photoshop, lightroom and large files?

    Hello all,
My brother finally wants to switch from windows to mac and asked me for advice. He is a young photography professional so his primary need is to run photoshop, lightroom and be able to use large RAW files and 100+ MB photoshop files.
He still has a 27" high resolution screen, so my first option to look at is the Mac Mini with the 2.7 GHz dual core i7, 8GB of ram and the standard 5400 rpm drive (as SSD is too expensive). Is this machine capable of handling the above mentioned things? I think that the processor and memory are more than enough, but i have my doubts about the videocard, since 256 mb of video memory is not that much in these days..
In the future he wants to buy an iMac or Macbook Pro, but for now that's still a little to expensive. Although, if the mac mini is not that good, he has to decide whether to wait a while and then buy an iMac or something.
I hope that anyone can give us some advice:-)
    Kind regards,
    Mark van Dam

Thank you everybody for all the replies!
First off, I think we'll wait what the 11th of june will bring us, hopefully a new mac mini. As Michael Wasley stated, the glossy imac screen isn't going to work for him. So that brings us to a Mac Mini or Macbook Pro. I'm using the macbook pro myself for the last couple of years and i'm a great fan of it's capabilities.. but my brother prefers a fixed 'computer' and not a laptop..
At this point i think he's going to buy (the new?) mac mini (and use his own screen), upgrade the RAM to somewhere between 12-16 GB, possible get a SSD drive and for sure get the biggest i7 processor available.
Hopefully that will get things running.
    Kind regards,
    Mark

    Hi-
You need to contact Sonnet, or the dealer from whom you purchased the CPU.
Since you have OS X 10.4.9, you probably need a software patch from Sonnet (if available). Or, you can go back to a known, supported version of OS X.
    Contact Sonnet!http://www.sonnettech.com/support/default.html

Recently upgraded Mac OS to 10.5.5 - have an older G4 which is max'd out upgrade-wise - both processor and OS. At present Safari is 3.1.2. Itunes is 9.2.1. Itunes will not allow me to connect to store - says it requires Safari 4.0.3 - however, when I try to download Safari 4.0.3 or newer it says it requires an older version of the OS. What to do?

    Update v10.5.5 to v10.5.8
Download and install the  combo >  Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update
    Then restart your Mac.
That should update Safari for you to 5.0.6 and that should help with iTunes.
If necessary, after updating to v10.5.8, you can use the standalone Safari installer here >  Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • Using Mac Mini with Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom

    Hi
I use Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4 mainly as I am a photographer. It involves both programmes live and some huge PSD files kicking around. I would be interested in hearing from any one who does similar on a high end mac mini. I am thinking of getting the high end new i7 with 16g and an SSD.
    Any good ?

While it will not deliver 'blazing fast' performance, it has tested OK with Photoshop CS6 MGE recently and it has faired decently well in some benchmark reports. Since the OP insisted Mac Mini, I think he can go for it. Also, since his work demands more 'Photo-specific' editing, I guess he should be good. Not much 3D I assume!
    Here are some references:
http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-Photoshop-CS6-GPU-Acceleration-161 - Look at benchmark reports (images) for Z77 chipset
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html - HD4000 has been tested with CS6 by Adobe
And I haven't heard of a 'reported failure' per se yet.

  • The best way to migrate image library and Lightroom settings form PC to Mac?

I want to migrate my image library and Lightroom Catalogs and settings over to my new Mac Pro. My images are currently on a separate external drive, whilst my Lightroom Catalogs and settings are on my old PC.
My intention is to situate my entire image library on it's own dedicated drive, which is one of the four separate drives on the Mac (in this instance, drive 4). I have also installed Lightroom 3 onto drive 1 (the same drive as the OS and all other applications, including CS5). I bought this as an upgrade to LR2, which is on my PC.
    My questions are:
    (a) How do I transfer my LR2 Catalogs and settings housed on my PC, over to LR3 on the Mac?
    (b) Once the library has been moved, what do I need to do to get Lightroom to find them?

    (a) How do I transfer my LR2 Catalogs and settings housed on my PC, over to LR3 on the Mac?
Simply copy them. When you launch the LR2 catalog in LR3 you will be prompted to convert it to a version 3 catalog. This will create a duplicate. Once you are satisfied all is well you can delete the version 2 catalog.
    (b) Once the library has been moved, what do I need to do to get Lightroom to find them?
Control click on the topmost folder and direct lightroom to the current location of the folder on the external drive. All images in subfolders should sync nicely.
