Mac 7500 working with a Windows 2003 server?

Hi all and thanks in advance for any help
We have an ancient mac 7500 that is dedicated to running an old version of DNA sequence analysis software (MacVector 6).
It is networked in our LAN, and there is a common drive on the server, which is on a Dell running Windows 2003 (yes, I live in a PC world...)
So, we can see the server, but when we try to do anything to the disk, it shows that priviledges are only read (not read write)
Our net admin folks swear that they have opened priviledges, and I can certainly read/write from my G4 and my PwerBook running OS 10.
We upgraded the 7500 to run OS 9.2 to try to make it as compatible as possible, but no luck.
Any suggestions on how to "unlock" the server drive to read/write?
You can send email to [email protected]
Thanks!
Mac 7500   Mac OS 9.2.x   Windows 2003 network server

Unless you have added some additional software, the two systems you mention do not appear to have a protocol in common -- the Windows machine wants to talk SMB protocol, the Mac wants to talk AFP.

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

  • Is WebI 2.7.5 compatible with Windows 2003 Server?

Currently have WebI 2.7.5 installed on a Windows 2000 Server and working fine.
Is WebI 2.7.5 compatible with a Windows 2003 Server?
    Thank you.

    Hi Craig,
    - Not supported means that particular version of Operating System is officially not tested (Product Group has not tested any report with that version) i.e. it may or may not work at users end.
    - If it woks at your end and you will get some issues (like error message or other server related issues) then BO support will not able to assist you as the version of OS which you are using is not officially tested at BOu2019s end.

  • Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 2 for product version 4.0.1.0.03

    Hi Experts,
A customer wants to know if there Are any known issues with applying Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 2 for product version 4.0.1.0.03 .
i gave him the answer that SP2 is not tested for that version hence it is not supprted. So he now asks me if Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 1 is supported for 4.0.1.0.03 , Any input would be of great help.

    Hi,
Be careful when you say SP2 is not supported.
Hyperion s policy in terms of third party products was the following (I would imagine this should remain the same with Oracle, however you may want to check with your local support team):
Hyperion products are tested against the versions specified in the product matrices. They do not actively look for issues in maintenance releases or service pack upgrades from 3rd party vendors for obvious reasons (there would be far too many). They will investigate any maintenance release or service pack upgrades as long as the vendor confirms backward compatibility.
Therefore SP2 would be supported with 4.0.1 and Hyperion/Oracle should investigate any issues you may encounter.
However keep in mind that if a specific issue you have encountered in 4.0.1 is caused by SP2 but fixed in a later version then Oracle's recommendation will be to upgrade.
So its a catch 22 situation really.
Personally I would take this opportunity to recommend an upgrade to 9.3.1 ;-)
    Hope this helps.

  • Trying to access Windows 2003 Server share with Mac OS 9.04

    Hi
I cannot connect to a Windows 2003 Server share on my 2003 domain. I can access the share with my MacBook (10.4.9) & my G4. I have File Services for Mac installed & can ping the server from all OS 9 Mac.
Can anyone give me some tips?
    MacBook     Administrator

How are you trying to connect to the server? Via AppleTalk or IP? (What utility are you using to ping the server from the Mac OS 9 machine?) Since you're not providing any information about error messages you're receiving or the symptoms of your problem I can only provide the following information.
If you're selecting the server from a list in the Chooser and clicking the OK button then the connection should switch to IP automatically. Make sure your Mac has TCP/IP enabled and is receiving an IP address or that you have an appropriate IP address hard-coded. You can try forcing an IP connection by entering the IP address or DNS name of the server in the Chooser rather than selecting it from the list in the Chooser.
Or you can try forcing an AppleTalk connection by selecting the server in the Chooser and holding down the Option key as you click the Connect button. If you're asked to enter your name and password then you're communicating properly with the server. This is, however, a very slow connection compared to IP.
Finally, be sure you update to the latest version of Mac OS 9, which is 9.2.2 <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288>.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Can't connect my Mac to my Windows 2003 server shares via SMB

    Hello all
So my problem is I have my Powerbook running 10.4.7 with all the latest security updates and I cannot connect it to any shares on my Windows 2003 domain controller. Everything was working fine and I could connect to the server with no problem till about a month ago. However, I can still connect to the Windows 2000 domain controller with no problem. The error I get when trying to connect is "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct". I did try clearing out my keychain, making sure all of the authentication policies on the server are correct (disabling the digitally sign commucations always policy), and I even went as far as editing a .conf file in /etc/ folder that allows for passwords to be sent without any encryption (I forget exactly what I changed but I can post that later when I get home from work) and none of this has worked. I unfortunately don't have another mac to test out connecting to the Windows 2003 server. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to try and get this issue resolved?

TO share out as afp you need to have file and print services for macintosh installed on the 2k3 Server.
O n the main management console click on the shares icon on the left. then click the "link" create a share. The wizard will guide you through the process. i forget the order of progression but i beleive its the second or third part in the dialog it will have 2 check boxes, the top one checked by default, is to share it for windows/smb the second (lower box) is to share as AFP for mac check this box and change the share name if you like. then proceed through the rest of the wizard. Make sure you configure the security/sharing prefs for access.. we typically remove the everyone policy and add one for Authenitcated Users, and ofcourse Administrators.

  • Mac can't search on a Windows 2003 server

We are using a Mac G5 running OSX (10.3.9) and are not able to search for files on our Windows 2003 server. We also can't index the server from this Mac.
The Macs and the Window server are fully up to date.
We are using AFP for the network connection. (We need to use AFP to maintain the Apple File Links.)
Our Windows PC can search files on the server with no problems.
Please help! Any advice is appreciated!!

Same here. I'm seeing the same error.
When I look at my Windows share, I see that Pages is trying to create a folder with several subfolders: Data and Metadata, plus index.zip, preview-micro.jpg, preview-web.jpg, and preview.jpg files.
I don't think this is a Mavericks issue, although I upgraded to Mavericks and Pages 5.0 at the same time. I still have the older version of Pages. It works just fine.

  • How to install 11.5.10 on VMWare with Windows 2003 Server?

Need help on installing 11.5.10 on VMWare which runs Windows 2003 Server.
I've XP Pro laptop with 2GB RAM and 80GB HDD and external HD with 250GB. Gathered all required s/w for installation.
The Win 2003 Server VMWare is sitting on the external HD. I want to install pre-req s/w along with 11.5.10 on the VMWare.
    (1) How do I make the laptop's CD drive and HD visible to the VMWare?
    (2) Can I use the XP laptop HD as staging area and install on VMWare on external HD?
    (3) What are the disadvantages/risks of using the external HD for both staging and actual installation?
    Any help is appreciated.
FYI - we already have an Oralce 11.5.9 on VMWare. All services are up and running. Able to logon to SQL*Plus and EBS home page. The issue is, we are not able to connect to this Oralce VMWare image from other VMWare image(Siebel), ie, if we do a telnet to oracle vmware image connection establishes and closes immediately. No clue on why this is happening. But this is not happening when we did telnet from a vmware image(plain win 2003 server) that does not have Siebel. All vmware images work fine individually.
    Any inputs?

  • Running Windows 2003 Server on Xserve Intel with BootCamp?

    Well...
This sounds like awfully bad idea, but one of our clients needs to run Windows 2003 Server for a certain project in their organisation. Fundings for the new hardware is available. Windows-compatible hardware!
The idea here is to get fundings for a new Xserve, run it with Windows 2003 Server in the project and then keep the delicious hardware for free when the project ends. A PC-server would be thrown out of a window in this 100% Mac-centric department.
Windows 2003 Server runs smoothly on a MacPro with Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop. What about the XServe Intel?

    Schuckert-
    Greetings.
Are you in a position to test the configuration for a while? If so then I vote do it. If not, you could buy a copy of OSX Server and install it on a Mac Pro and try running your software on the XServe platform.
However, depending on your relationship with this client, I would have them sign a release based upon the beta-ness of the software.
A lot of us here are not in a position to give such things a try-just yet. Too busy trying to make things transition smoothly on the accepted configurations.
Although I will say that I suppose a client will eventually pose the question to me (:>)

  • BOE XI R2 SP3 - Does it work on Windows 2003 Server SP2?

However, I can't find any information on the BOE XI R2 SP3 version running on Win 2003 Svr SP2.
Could someone please let me know if there is such information (link to web site, etc), or if from own experience, this version of BOE XI works with W2003 SP2?
If this doesn't work, what should we do next? Should we upgrade BOE XI R2 to Service Pack 4, and then upgrade Win 2003 Server to SP2, or upgrade Win 2003 Server to SP2 and then upgrade BOE XI R2 to SP4?

  • Connecting to a Windows 2003-Server with a MacBook

    Hi guys!
I'm planning on buying a MacBook anytime soon. The main purpose of this investment is work at school. Therefore I have to ensure that everything works perfectly, otherwise I would have to buy a Windows notebook (in fact not the kind of decision I wanna make).
We have a Windows 2003-Server and every other pupil can easily connect to this server with a Windows XP machine wirelessly. They can use printers, surf the Internet and use all the network harddrives (like F: for everyone; P: for projects were only certain groups have access to certain folders; and Z: your home-directory where only the very user has access).
I need to make sure 2 things:
    a) When I connect to the network via Airport, does the system ask me for my account, so I can have (or have not) access to files I am entitled to?
    b) Does everything work fine under normal condition?
I am aware that something could happen nobody could have forseen, but as the MacBook is a bigger investment than a € 700 windows crapbook, I would like to make sure that everything should work seemlessly.

Thanks Jay, It now auto log's in but it's still not acting like a networked drive - when saving an attachment etc I still can't save direct to the server as it doesn't appear in the listing.. I need to save to desktop or doc's then manually drag it into the server... this is a pain...
    Any further ideas.

  • Running LabVIEW 7.1 on Windows 2003 Server with Terminal Services

We are setting up a newtork based solution with LabView. I have looked for documentation on installing LV 7.1 on a Windows 2003 server to run the applications and then have destkops connect to it. Can this be done with a Terminal Services Access solution? Another words, if we were to purchase the LV Volume License Manager, can you install LV 7.1 onto a Windows 2003 server and run the application through TS across a 1GB backbone from the desktop, which makes the server do all the processing?

Sorry for the delay. I'm surprised Philip didn't get back to us... Phil
are you there? Based on his comments, I think he misunderstands your
    situation (no offense Phil).
You and I are both talking about the same thing. You basically want a
terminal server license. NI will not provide it. They told me (over the
phone) to get a multi-seat license (MSL). IMO, that's unacceptable. I
expect a LV license taylored specifically for thin client networks. A
multi-seat license is for -->installing<-- on multiple machines. It
conforms to a totally different set of rules. One big one, an MSL assumes
that you intend to run LV locally to interact with DAQ hardware. Since
this won't be done with the thin client, you shouldn't have to pay for it.

Since you are talking about a Microsoft operating system, I would say this
cannot be done without some additional/costly junk installed.
Here's another option. If the people you're supporting don't have any
platform dependent things like ActiveX in their LV applications, you
should consider using a Linux-based terminal server. I know for a fact it
    works.
I've assisted in setting up a network like this before:
    * One Linux terminal server with LabVIEW for Linux (Full Dev)
    * One WinXP box on the network with LabVIEW for Win (Prof Dev)
    * 5 cheap thin clients
They developed LabVIEW source code on the thin clients and then compiled
packages on the WinXP box for distribution to their customers. The WinXP
was only used for compiles so they just hopped on when necessary. The
eventual plan is for the thin clients to simply open a RemoteDesktop
(using RDP) terminal session and do the compiles from there. I'm not sure
how to do that yet... on the Windows side.
    > I see the comments on calling VIs through LV. I am a Network Engineer

Phil must have thought you needed a LV application to access the front
panel controls of another LV application running on a remote machine. The
VI server is handy in that area but useless in your case.
Hey, you wanna hear about cheap network infrastructure? We bought our
thin client boxes for $15 each! Go to ltsp.org if you want more info on
configuring Linux as a terminal server.
