Mac address cloning / BT Home Hub 5

I have Infinity 2 package with BT Home Hub 5.
I recently bought Asus AC3200 and would like to use it as a main wired/wireless router in the house.
I don't want to have an extra routing hope, so I thought to setup Mac address cloning, so AC3200's broadband interface has the same MAC as BT Home Hub.
Is it possible ?
Where can I find MAC address of BT Home Hub 5 broadband interface ?

Are you trying to connect a 2nd router to the phone line at the same time? If so it won't work. If not why are u trying to clone the mac address? You can only have the same Mac address once within the same network. Arp cannot understand multiple devices with the same Mac address. You can only have a mac address known to one device. Multiple IP addresses can map to the same Mac address but you cannot map the same IP address to multiple Mac addresses.

  • Back to 'mac address cloning'

My last 'mac address cloning' issue was solved, but now I have another. Before I had to reset my router to disable and reset everything and it worked. Now I have to enable 'mac address clone' to get my pc and server to let me connect to them (thru 'MSTSC') with my wireless laptop and then I have to disable it to get on the internet. Is there a way for the pc and server to be reset and start off fresh?

This is very likely to be a name resolution issue. When you do not have the MAC address cloned and you ping dan-pc, do you get replies?
Unless you have either a WINS server set up on your network, or all of your PCs have static DHCP leases at the router, or you run your own internal DNS server, or you have LMHosts file entries for all of your internal machines, it is unlikely you wil be able to resolve the names of the PCs on your LAN.
The easiest way for you is probably to reference them by IP address. If you changed the port they are listening on so you can access them seperately from outside your network (when you are not home for instance) you should append that oport number to the IP address in the mstsc address entry block, ie 192.168.1.10:3389 for one and 192.168.1.11:3399 for the other (that is as an example...I don't really know the IPs or the ports you used....

  • How do I add my phone's Wi-Fi Mac address to my home server so that I can use my home Wi-Fi with my phone?

Hello. I am using an Android cell phone and, though the phone sees my home server name and accepts my password, it won't connect. I understand that I may have to add my phone's Wi-Fi Mac address to my home server in order for it to allow my phone access, but I have no idea how I might do that. Could someone help me with this? Thank you.

You need to log out of iMessage and Facetime, make sure your number is correct in Settings/General/About, then log back in again to send a new activation request.

  • MAC Address Cloning?

I am currently connected to my dorm room network with my AirPort Extreme successfully. However, when connecting for the first time, you are prompted to enter a username and password on a web page which authenticates your machine for the first time. The problem is, if I want to hook something else up wirelessly (Apple TV or PS3) I have to re-authenticate it using the web login, thus disconnecting my Mac from getting online.
I am thinking that I can probably authenticate my Mac, then clone my MAC address to the router, but am not really sure if that will work or how to go about it. Can someone please provide some insight on going about doing this? Thanks.

Does changing it to bridge mode give the same responce?
Using share ip would mean that only one of the uni's IP addresses would be associated with the airport base station. In bridge mode any device attaching would get a different uni IP address. This may allow multiple devices to attach, but without knowing the full set up, I can't really help any further.

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express

Although the BT Home Hub is 'Mac' compatible, there is still little information on using it with Airport networks. I hope that the following makes sense (I am no expert) and is useful?
Connect the Airport Express via Ethernet cable to the Ethernet 1 port of the Home Hub
    Open Airport Admin Utility
    Airport Tab>Base Station>enter a base station name
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Mode>Create a Wireles Network(Home Router)
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Name>enter a network name
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Security>enter your preferred security level and ensure it matches the Home Hub security level
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Channel>choose the same channel as your hub, do not use automatic
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Create a closed network>leave this unchecked
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Mode>if you have a mix of 11b and 11g cards leave the mode at 892.11b/g Compatible
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Options>leave these alone if you want to avoid problems
    Internet Tab>Connect Using>Airport (WDS)
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>enter the MAC address of the Home Hub(i.e the primary WDS base station
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>tick the box Also allow wireless client computers
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>Configure>Using DHCP>the IP address will be assigned in the range 192.168.1.6*and the Subnet mask should read 255.255.255.0 and Router address should be 192.168.1.254
    Network Tab>Uncheck Distribute IP addresses
WDS Tab>Enable this base station as a WDS>check this box>from the drop down list choose>remote base station
WDS Tab>Allow wireless clients on this base station>check this box
WDS Tab>Main AirPort ID> enter the MAC address of the Home Hub or use Select to scan for the Home Hub wireless network and you should pick up the MAC address etc automatically
    Click to Update these settings.
Go to bthomehub.home and ensure that you have WDS dis-ABLED in the settings. You will have to log on as admin (password is defaulted to ‘admin’, but it is worth changing it!).
To do this after logging on as admin go to>Home Network>Interfaces>WLAN At this point you should be presented with Wireless Access Point click on Configure (top right) Scroll down the screen that follows and click Configure WDS and you will be presented with the Wireless screen. Click Scan for wireless access points. The BT Home hub will scan for available networks and once it has found these you should click apply but DO NOT ENABLE WDS! Click back from this screen to Home Network and you should see your wireless Mac(s) and their various connections
Best wishes and hope this works for you! My iMac/Mac Mini and PowerMac G4 now connect perfectly through the Airport Express and I have extra Extreme and Dual Ethernet Airports for printer and Windows file sharing. I am running OS X 10.4;10.3 and 10.2 variously without seeming conflict. Airport firmware is 6.3

I have now changed settings as you advised from WDS to Ethernet for the Express>BT Home Hub connection.
I know from previous posting that the ABS Snow does not support WDS.
Hers is what I want to achieve, however so far, with the exception of the Mac Mini (untested/unconfigured for use with Extreme)it all works?:-
Power PC 400 AGP OS 10.2.8>Airport Extreme PCI Card>Wirelessly connect via Express(connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Mac Mini 1.4 OS 10.3.6>Ethernet>ABS Extreme>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
iMac G4 Flat panel OS 10.4>Airport Original Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Samsung PC Windows XP(SP2)>802.11G Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
All four of the above connect to the ABS Snow on a separate wireless network for file sharing and printing.(I set this up via help/info from the discussion forum and given it works without hiccup have left it as it is!)
Hope this helps and any further assistance/advice is appreciated-I am keen to get it right since the BT Home Hub is relatively new-UK based Home Hub forums http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=77

  • Sharing Mac's across a BT Home Hub network

I had a problem with this today and saw that this has been asked before with no answer available, and that topic has been closed.
The original poster had problems connecting macs across his BT Home Hub network.
I went into advanced settings on the BT home hub router and changed the wireless config to use 802.11b/g instead of the default 802.11b/g/n. Apply and reboot the router. This now allows macs to connect to each other wirelessly.
    Hope this helps someone.

    No joy I'm afraid.
Tried this on both mac's and once again it timed out…
Could it be a home hub setting?
Just wanted to check to see if anyone else had this problem before I spend 3 hours speaking to some dude with no knowledge of apple in an indian call centre!

  • Home Hub 4 unable enter IP address

After a recent power cut some devices on my network were no longer connected to HH4. I have managed to get most working again but my Sky HD box and Vodafone Suresignal v3 no longer connect. When I click on the devices in HH4 I see they are set for static IP but I cannot enter anything into the IP address field. There is a note that the device is not set up for IPV4 in both cases. I have tried resetting HH4 and the devices but no go. I can get the Sky HD box working by entering the IP details in the setup on the Sky box but I don't understand why the IP address field in HH4 setup appears available but does not accept any digits. Can I change the static IP to DHCP - if so, how? First post, pls forgive rambling...

You cannot alter the IP address that the home hub allocates. Your best option is to reset the home hub to factory default, then allow it to allocate IP addresses automatically using DHCP.

  • Connecting a NAS to Home Hub 4

I have connected mac computer directly to Home hub 4 with success and also a Develo Home Plug with success. I have got all of the wi-fi to work but I cannot get my Buffalo terrastion to be even seen. I have tried Buffalo to Hub direct via ethernet. Buffalo to switch via ethernet with switch to hub via ethernet. Anybody got any ideas please?
    Best regards Dennis

The other option would be to change the IP and subnet of the home hub 4, so it matches your old router.
There are some instructions on this page, and I assume the HH4 is similar.
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9011/~/how-do-i-change-the-dhcp-settings-of-the-bt-ho...
This can be quite tricky, and you could lose connection to the home hub, and a factory reset would be needed.
If your old router was not locked to your last ISP, there is nothing to stop you using that instead. All you would have to do is to change the login details.
As for changing the NAS, if you can get into the network settings screen, and select manual network configuration, and use the following settings, it should be possible to use it with the home hub.
    Use these manual network settings.
    IP address 192.168.1.50
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.1.254
    DNS Server 192.168.1.254
I have chosen an IP address which is outside of the home hubs DHCP range, to avoid any conflicts.
To access the NAS after making the changes and restarting the NAS,
    Go to http://192.168.1.50
That should bring up the normal NAS menu.

  • Home Hub 5

My first post so please forgive any etiquette faux-pas.
I have the above and have 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz as separate SSID.
Connectivty to internet is flaky; so a device can see the SSID and connect but provides no internet access yet switching to the other SSID provides it. This particularly affected iPad and Macs.
I have BT Dual band extender in loft and HH5 is on ground floor. Does this cause a conflict?
Also, PC can connect to wi-fi but again internet access is dropping out frequently. Noted that HH5 assigned IP address different from that on PC. Cannot use IE but Outlook is connected?? Home Hub manager does not even list the PC as being connected yet the PC has an IP address from that Home Hub.
I do not want to keep logging into HH manager to sort this; it should work!
Any guidance is much appreciated. I have even tried the BT chat but that is having "technical issues".
    Thanks

    Hi
Switching to 5Ghz provides internet connection.
The extender does and works to connect CCTV.
The IP address from Windows control panel was different from the IP address on Home Hub Manager.
Using a different channel on 2.4Ghz worked the other day (rather than smart wireless).
Additionally, I have noted that if I can receive an internet connection on the 2.4Ghz network and I am upstairs I cannot see the device in HH manager; is this because I am connected through the extender and somehow the IP address assigned by the HH is masked by that of the extender?
I know the HH is connected to the outside world OK as hard wired connections (eg SONOS) work OK.
    Thanks for the comments.

  • AEBS and Comcast (can I clone a MAC address?)

I am currently an Earthlink DSL subscriber. I love Earthink, but DSL is giving me all kinds of trouble. Covad owns the lines in my area and they are aweful... in any case...
I am going to switch to Comcast Cable Broadband. I have set up many people in the area with Comcast and a wireless router. It seems that Comcast does not do this everywhere, but in my area they "bind" to the MAC address of the NIC that you use to setup the connection (MAC Address Authentication).
If I want to use NAT on my router, it will not work unless I can spoof the MAC address. This is easily done with a Netgear or Linksys router. This does not seem to be a setting in the Airport Admin Utility.
Is there a hidden setting or a third party utility that I can use for spoofing the WAN MAC address on my Airport Extreme Base Station?
I could switch to a different wireless router or put a small router between my Cable modem and the AEBS, but I would rather not add a layer of hardware or switch hardware if I don't have to (I really like my AEBS).
    Thanks for any advice.
    WT

It should be possible, if manual registration of the MAC address of connected equipment is required on Comcast's service in your area, to get them to either clear the binding to allow a new device (ie the Base Station) to associate with the connection, or to ask them to manually register the MAC address of the Base Station's WAN port. I realize you would rather not have to deal with Comcast's tech support people, but (as pointed out above) the only other option is to use a different wireless router that does support MAC address cloning.

  • Attempting to clone MAC address, cannot save changes.

    Hello.
I am attempting to use the MAC address cloning feature on my Linksys e2000 router. When I check "Enabled" and then attempt to save settings I receive "The values you entered are invalid. Please try again." I also receive this message if I select "Enabled" and then "Clone My PC's MAC". All other change to settings seem to work.
    Any help?

You might have to reset to factory defaults since there isn't any reason why this is occurring AFAIK. Maybe trying to clone the router's MAC onto itself broke something in the firmware.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Cant find Mac address BBT Hom Hub 2.0

Hi, I have my NAS severe connected directly to my HH.
Everything has worked fine for months, I had port forwarded some ports on the router so that I could access  my Nas externally.
All of a sudden, ports are blocked and I cannot find my NAS device on the router, it is connected and I can connect via LAN.
Not sure waht to do because  the Nas dvice Mac address does not show up in the device list or in DHCP list.
    thanks

Your NAS really needs to be given a static IP address, as DHCP tends to stop working after a while, as the home hubs DHCP table fills up to capacity.
    These pages should help.
    Port forwarding problems
Using static IP addresses on your home network
You usually have to do a factory reset of the home hub, to clear out any existing DHCP table.

  • USB External drive for PC & Mac Via Home Hub 2

    Hi Guys,
I have a home hub 2.0, I also have a 1TB External USB drive, I have connected the drive to the USB port on my Hub and I can see the drive on my pc, wirelessly (Windows 7), I know nothing abouy MAC's, but my wife has one and it would be great if we can both use the same drive, I think I will need to reformet the drive when it is plugged into her MAC into some MAC Format (?), I am happy to do that, but will both my PC and her MAC be able to access the drive?
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi steve,
As nobody else has posted I've decided to step in with a bit of advice, limited though it may be on Mac's
You can map your network drive to the Mac as well as your PC; I don't think there's a specific file format you need to have your hard drive formatted to although I've read reports of Mac's having problems with NTFS - FAT32 apparently works fine. The link below should help you map the drive to your Mac - as far as I'm aware, the IP address assigned to the USB slot on the Homehub is 192.168.1.253, so enter this when prompted for an address/location.
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/09/20/map-a-network-drive-on-a-mac/
Give this a go and get back to us to let us know how you get on, it might prove useful for other users (if it actually does work!).

  • BT Home Hub 3 + Back To My Mac / Port Forwarding

I've recently got BT Infinity and along with it a BT Home Hub 3 which doesn't seem to be playing nicely with Back to my Mac.
The setup on the Mac side of things is correct and I can see my remote computer but I just can't connect to them, or vice versa. The Back to My Mac preference is showing that the router needs configuring for better performance.
I've ensured UPnP is enabled and forwarded the following ports to the device:
    TCP 5354
    UDP 4500
    UDP 5353
    UDP 500
    UDP/TCP 4488
Which I found listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629
After doing some checks on these ports using http://canyouseeme.org it would seem that only one of these ports is open, and even then it's occassional.
BT seem to state on http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12529/~/why-do-i-get-an-error-message-when-using-appl... that 'Back to My Mac' isn't compatible and this is due to a compatibility issue on Apple's part. Frustratingly this article doesn't indicate a date when this was posted. Never the less, I would presume this could only be UPnP related — i.e. the necessary ports won't open automatically. I'm unsure of what other compatibility issues there would be. If the ports are open it should work fine.
I've read numerous threads in many forums about the BT Home Hub 3 port forwarding not working correctly, is this still true? If so, surely the device should be deemed faulty or a firmware update should have been put in place by now to resolve this. I can't seem to find any recent articles regarding this.
Thanks in advance for any help!
