Mac Air A1304 normal-SSD to motherboard-connector cable???
Hi guys,
I need to upgrade my 120GB LIF connector HDD with a new 18." SSD. Some manufacturers offer this upgrade (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other+World+Computing/SSDAPMB120/ - i am not trying to advertise this!) and I noticed that these products are basically normal 1.8" SSDs with a HDD cable identical to this A1304 but the HDD end is normal SATA instead of LIF. The question is can we find this cable only? Apple-to-SATA instead of the factory Apple-to-LIF? Then we can use any 1.8" SSD..

If you have the galaxy desktop then it's working. This is called extended desktop mode, it's a logical extension of your desktop to the right. Drag the browser off the right side of your monitor and it will appear on the TV.
You can also mirror your monitor with the TV by pressing CMD F1.
All these settings are in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab.

Mac air is not charging, cord is fine
My Mac Air is not charging, the cord/connector is fine, all other devices plugged are working. I tried plugging directly on the wall too. This happened once in the past, then worked again. I thought my Mac Air had a problem, took it to the Apple Store but my cord worked there and so did theirs. This is so annoying! Does anyone have new suggestions? my mac air is 2012-mid 13inch 128G ssd model, but i cannot upgrade the ssd firmware 1.1 version. No update available in Appstore and if i download from the apple website, it shows not need install in this mac, what can i do now ?

Mac air book ssd questions(i'm new here)
hi, i am new here on this forum. i've been debating/planning on buying the mac air book ssd for some weeks now already...but recently spend a hour reading through all the mac air book problems on here it's making me think twice. i mean the machine looks awsome and etc..but i've been hearing it has wireless problems...one thing about me is that i'm a wireless guy and that is the sole purpose i will be buying this machine for. have they fix these problems yet on the air? like freezing, over-heating, and wireless problems? any answers will greatly be appreciated.
thanksI can tell you to go with the 1.8/64GB SSD if you can. Especially with the price drop. I know from experience that when I had the 1.6/80 (was returned because of a heat issue), I upgraded to custom 1.8/80GB HDD and there is a difference. I now use it as a primary computer with no issues. For the $500 more, go with SSD if you can... much faster read rates, snappy overall, and very quick startup times. Some people say go for HDD, but I do notice it is sluggish at times, but still okay overall for the price and extra space.
About freezing, yes, I've had the odd freeze, but probably general computer related, such as when I leave it on all the time and use sleep on/off. Perhaps an app is causing this, so I now try to restart every once in a while. Other than that, it is rock solid and I carry this computer everywhere becuase it is so portable. I purchased the Speck SeeThru Smoke Case... looks great, and easier to carry around (but it is heavy at first). About wireless issues, never had an issue, it works like a charm. -

Hi so I had to force shut down my Mac air because it froze, when I turn it on it first tells me that I had force shut down so press a key to start up, then it goes to the apple screen, then black strips with white text pop up, then it restarts again. So I looked up what to try to do and I did the "command/r" and it comes up with options, but I don't believe that I set up my time machine backup or something because nothing comes up after it "searches" for a back up thing. and it won't reinstall OS X because it can't find the installation information. And the disk utility doesn't work because it says that I need to "back up as many of [my] files as possible , reformat the disk, and restore [my] back up files" .
I'm not sure what to do but I have a lot of school things I need on it. So I hope there is some possible way to not erase any of the info on my internal hard rice. I'm also not that good with computers.Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem (what MBA you're using - there are many versions going back to '08, what OS you're using -there's a lot of those too- and an iOS will not work with an MBA you must be using some versions of OS X 10.5.x - 10.9.x) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it..
Sounds to me like your SSD and/or your OS is corrupt.
Boot into repair and use Disk Tools->Disk Utility-Disk First Aid: repair disk to try to fix your boot volume. While you're there also do repair permissions.
Reboot holding the Shift Key down until you see a progress bar at the bottom of the screen and log in. BACK UP YOU IMPORTANT DATA.

Same frustrating problem here with my MBA. It's running slow, fans are running at full throttle from boot to power down, the apparently notorious known kernel_task process using between 200-400% CPU resources and some 450MB memory.
I have been reading hundreds of good support community threads, tried all reasonable advises such as resetting SCM, PRAM, upgrading from Maverick to Yosemite 10.3.3, endless chats with Apple support (nice peoples, but no help). I am getting desperate and close to deaf listing to the fans in my MBA.
Have seen several good supportive posts from Etresoft in various communities and now here again. Took the opportunity to download linked error check software and have inserted result below. I do however not expect this will really help in finding a solution, but you never know.
ANY advise and feedback appreciated (y)

Bootcamp performance: Mac Air 11 with windows 7
I was looking to replace my wife's Lenovo U110. She needs ~11", light netbook. Her main usage is remote desktop to her office windows machine, running few company specific apps to access company resources, running MS Office applications (Word and Powerpoint)
I recently bought her Sony X, which was nice on paper (11/6", 1.5 lb, etc) but she could not stand keyboard. (I am using it now as a travel laptop and think that Intel Atom is the worst even CPU).
Anyway, when I saw new mac air 11, I thought that it fits perfectly her needs. I offered my wife to buy it but apparently that special (from company) soft does not work well with MAC OS. So, what I am thinking now is to get MacAir 11" with 128Gb SSD and to install Win 7 with bootcamp. Then she would be using it most (all) the time running win 7.
My question is, can I assume that MacBook Air 11 with bootcamp and win 7 64 bit will provide "experience" equivalent of running Win 7 on "Microsoft-native" laptop. I mean both from point of view of CPU performance (1.6 GHz should be more than enough normally, so small performance hit would not be a problem) and also the easiness of usage (software instillation, access to hardware resources, etc). I understand that bootcamp is not an emulation but I have never used it before myself...
Thanks.Windows will run fine on the Macbook Air. In fact, if she doesn't like the Mac OS at all, she can wipe the drive clean and install Windows. Bootcamp is just a fancy name for partitioning the drive and easing driver functionality. There's no difference booting up Windows on a Macbook vs booting up Windows on a Dell or Sony-- it runs natively.
You will need the Mac OS usb that comes with the Air to install the Bootcamp drivers on Windows (graphics, sound, trackpad, etc...). To save both of you the headache, once you've installed the Bootcamp drivers (and updated them)- go into your notification area and open the BootCamp control panel. Select 'tap to click' on the trackpad tab, then close the control panel.
The trackpad will work just like any other PC (even better). Two-fingers to right-click, 1 finger to left-click. -
MAC AIR Crashes on wake from sleep
Dear All,
I have a user's Mac Air exhibiting the ubiquitous 'wake from sleep' issue that seems to have reared its head at every OS since 10.2, increasingly occurring with or without various apps running at time of sleep.
Upon tapping space bar after a night's sleep, we get a login screen with sometimes the desktop background, sometimes black, but always with the login panel available but tantalisingly NO blinking cursor or ability to enter password into the box for logging in.
Solution even after 20-40 mins (user is a patient person :-) is to press and hold the power button.
Syslog examination upon reboot shows nothing at all for the corresponding time period, just the info pertaining to the hard reboot.
...This last fact makes me think it is below the OS level and to do with the SSD power management / SMC / firmware relevant to both the above - if I am correct, after a couple of hours sleeping, as the laptop considers it is now in deep sleep, the contents of RAM get written to the SSD.
So, upon wake up calls from peripherals or built in mouse/trackpad, IF it cannot load the data written to the (still sleeping??) SSD back into RAM, then of course logging in will present a problem ?
I'd love to finally get to understand this completely, especially as it has occurred with all recent versions of the MAC OS, and on pretty much all hardware (acc to google).
Like many of us over the years, with previous OS versions' wake-from-sleep issues I have just taken the varying anecdotal advice (run /sbin/fsck/ -f/y, or fix permissions, or reset PRAM / SMC / trash windowserver prefs / apply combo update etc etc etc, turn around three times and kiss a back issue of Mac User magazine) and moved on...
.... this time, with yet another OS version, this annoyingly prevalent bug undermines my enthusiasm for continuing with Apple (I rely heavily on various remote access apps and having a non-local machine not wake up for me could be be a huge issue).
Anyone delved deep into this one and come back with an answer ?
Currently I am toying with using terminal to remove the hibernation aspect of sleep ..

ppl i fed up with my mac air while using my exchange email account, it takes ages to refresh and it doesn't send or receive instantly , no clue although that the same setting and server names has been set up on my iPhone and it is working totally fine
Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.

You have to remove the hibernate mode (do that at your own risk, 'cause if your computer is running out of battery you can loose some data),
so into the terminal do :
to remove the writting operation of the RAM on the SSD : sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
to remove the writtent data and to recover some GBytes : sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage
to come back to the original mode : sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3

Air Play is no longer working correctly from either my Mac Air or iPad.
Air Play does not appear to be working correctly.
Yesterday I tried to access my ZEP Air using Air Play from my iPad (3rd Gen), and neither the Zep Air or my Airport Express were shown. I checked that all software was up to date, and that all devices were on the same network, but no joy. I was however able to use Air Play through my iPhone5, which picked up all devices, and I was able to play music through my Zep Air.
I have now tried to use Air Play with Apple TV using both my iPad and Mac Air. When I select Apple TV on my iPad, and turn on the Apple TV, nothing happens, and I do not get the normal mirroring option. Using the Mac Air, I can switch on mirroring with the Apple TV, and see my screen on the TV, but again I cannot access the ZEP Air or see the Airport Express. Apple TV has '86' in brackets at the side
My Apple TV device shows both the ZEP Air and Airport Express, and the Airport Utility shows all devices working correctly and software up to date.
I have Norton for Mac installed, and have just checked with a Norton technician - using remote access - that Norton isn't blocking any access through the firewall, and everything appears to be OK.
Interestingly, I called in to my local Apple Store (Sheffield UK) as I'm interested in an iPad Air 2, and I asked whether they were aware of any issues following OS X Yosemite and iOS 8. I took my iPad and it didn't show the Air Play icon at all in store, and the representative I saw, wasn't aware of any issues. Before I organise to see a 'genius' at the Sheffield store I wondered whether anyone has recently had experience of this problem? If so, is there a fix I can try?CORRECTION: Whenever I click on: "SEND" on my iPhone I DO hear the audio send prompt and I DO see the email listed in the "SENT" folder within the email program soooooooooo it appears to me that the emails ARE sent. I just do NOT receive them. I have even tried going into the SENT folder and opening an email and trying to forward it to myself WITHOUT any success.
Maybe this will shed some new light on the problem. -
Mac air with external hard drive - not being found on Finder, Time Machine, Migration Assistant
I have been using an external drive (Imation Apollo) to access only, old files from previous computer (PC) on a new Mac Air. I had not transferred them across to new computer (didn't want to do that) just accessing them from the HD. It had been working fine until recently. Each time the external drive had been connected Time Machine would come up and ask if i wanted to use this drive for back ups, and I always chose 'Decide later'. So, as yetI hadn't as yet configured Time Machine to do back ups.
Recently I noticed that the extrnal HD was no longer showing up on Finder. Slight panic as i have 5 or 6 yrs of work saved on that HD
Further investigations - it's also not showing up either on on Disk Utility, or on Migration Assistant.
I've done the following:
Tried HD in each of different USB ports - made no difference, HD still not showing up
Tested different Hubs in each port with HD attached - no difference HD not showing up
Tried USB flash drives in the USB ports - These are working fine and show up on finder
Tried the HD on other comptuters (a PC though, don't have access to another mac to do this test)- working fine, the HD is showing up and is accessable
Interrogated the Console logs to try to see if the act of attaching the HD creates a log entry - couldn't find anything
Rebooted computer via shut down, power disconnect - no difference
Reset PRAM - no difference still not showing up
Reset SMC - no differnce still not showing up
So I think I have established that all the USB ports are functioning correctly and able to access other external drive devices, using hubs with external powersource is not the issue, identified that the external hard drive is working OK, and it appears that the Mac itself is functioning normally.
What would be the reason the Mac now does not allow this specific external HD to be identified and accessed. The only possible things I can think of are
if I had in fact pressed 'Do not use' when Time Machine asked 'do you want to use this drive for back ups'. Would that mean that the Mac now totally rejects this HD from being a source of accessible files - I hope not!
I also think that my husband may have disconnected the hard drive from my computer to access some stuff and he just yanked it out rather than use the safe eject method. Could this create an issue? The Hard drive works fine on his PC.
Why is my Mac Air now rejecting this HD and what can I do to access my historical files now.

AnnaI can't answer why it isn't accessing it, but I have a slightly related issue w my back up drive starting to get noisy.
Realizing that redundancy is safety for critical data. I talked to my brother about my situation the other day & he said he has 3 small Western Digital portable HDs that he rotates for backup. He even keeps 1 in the safe deposit box.
I have read for some time that we should have multiple back ups & also have our critical stuff backed up off site. Amazon HD reviews had a woman telling about how she was very backed up on multiple computers & hard drives, but they were robbed or burgeled & all of them were stolen including her thesis that was on the computers.
Hard drives aren't that expensive. I just bought a new Western Digital 1 TB drive for $89.99. I plan to use it to back up the Seagate that is getting noisy & then maybe alternate them.
Also, when I came back to Mac, I moved practially all of my documents to Mac. I think I just dragged & dropped or something. Photos, Office, & pdfs do fine that way. & then you could back them up to a couple of different external drives & remove from your MacBookAir.
Unfortunately I think most of us do not back up until crisis & then it may be too late.
Also use Time Machine. For the 1st time in my computer life, my computer is well backed up--although now realizing the need for redundancy so will start backing up to at least 2 different HDs alternatly.
So, not sure why it isn't working & hopefully you have come up w a solution by now.
I think what I would do in a situation like this, since you can access it on the Windows machine would be to transfer the data to the Windows machine & then transfer it back to a different back up.
I'm looking into backing up what I still have in Windows using a thumb flash drive. I think it should all fit ok now that they have the larger drives & I don't have very much left in Windows format. -
My mac air says hard drive full and 90% is full of 'other' which I cant work out what 'other' is as i Have transferred most to my external hard drive.
Do you know how I can tell how large each file is taking up and what my 'other' category could be?

- Delete all files in the Downloads folder.
Empty the Trash.
- Start iPhoto.
Empty its trash.
Restart.
Backup:
Run a Time Machine (or other) backup since you are about to delete and move files and you may need to recover from any inadvertent mistakes or decisions. You will need one external hard drive for your Time Machine (or other) backup and a second if you plan to offload some files. (See suggestions for where to purchase hard drives at the end of this message.)

Offloading files:
Consider moving some of the no-often-used large files or directories to an external disk. Use ODS again to find them. This will be at least your second hard drive. Your first one(s) is/are for your Time Machine (or other) backup(s). Do not offload files onto a Time Machine disk.
Format the second drive as Mac OS Extended (journaled). Using OWS to find large files/folders and copy them from the system drive to the external hard drive and delete them from your internal drive.
Then > System Preferences > Time Machine > Options… > Remove the offload HD name from the exclusions list.
Now both your system disk and your external offload disk will be backed up onto your Time Machine disk.
