Mac Air connection problems

So I just got my new MBA yesterday. Wifi connected in the apple store. I get home and it's not working. My iPad has been working no problems. My cousin has a pro and that's been working with no issues. I've  been on the phone with Mac support for 30 mins and their final diagnostic is that my network has been hacked that's why it's not connecting. Is this real?

Within the Displays preference pane in System Preferences is a choice whther to extend your desktop, or mirror your desktop. Apparently, the current selection is to "extend the desktop".
Set the preference to "mirror the desktop", so that your internal display shows the same image as your external display.

What model is your TC? What is the firmware?
I recommend you do a factory reset and use short names.. not apple recommended names.
Short.. 2-20 characters .. less than 10 even better.
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric.
Set fixed channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. test with 11, 6, 1 at least.
That often helps.. if not and is old, ie Gen1-4 go back to 7.6.1 firmware which is far more solid.

  • Is there anyway to have an 11 inch mac air connected to an external monitor with lid closed and still be able to see content. I have a wireless ketboard and mouse and have tried everything. Only works when plugged in.

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you.

That's not what home sharing is for or how it works.
    You want the remote app.

  • New Mac Owner, connection problems...

    Hi,
This past month I bought a new Macbook Pro (The 2.5ghz 15" one.) and a iMac (The 20" 2ghz one.) Lately I've been getting connection problems where the connection just randomly drops every 3-10 minutes.
The router is 2 rooms away from the MBP and its in the same room as the iMac. I've only known of one connection problem with the iMac. The MBP drops constantly.
My router is a Linksys WRT54GX2 v2 with the latest firmware. (1.00.08)
Before I had the Mac's I had a Sony Vaio FS920, and it would never drop a connection.
    What I've tried so far:
    _On the router:_
    *Wireless > Advanced Wireless Settings:*
    Basic Rate Set #2
    Transmission Rate Auto
    CTS Protection Mode Disabled
    Auto Channel Selection Auto
    Beacon Interval 50
    DTIM Interval 2
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2306
    RTS Threshold: 2307
    Preamble Type: Long
    Network Density: Low
    Compression: Disable
    Concatenation Auto
    *Wireless > Wireless Security:*
    Security Mode: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    WPA Personal: Enable
    WPA 2 Personal: Enable
    Encryption Algorithms: TKIP+AES
    *Wireless > Basic Wireless:*
    Wireless Network Mode: MIXED
    Wireless Channel: 6 - 2.437Ghz
    Adaptive Channel Expansion: 2 - 2.417Ghz
    _On the MBP:_
Airport is on the top of the connection lists
The SSID is on the top of the conenction list
Did the CommandOption+RP twice on reboot for PRAM.
Can anyone help me out? It seems the only thing that is letting me back online every day is the fact that I have to reset the router and the cable modem... There has to be a easier way?
    Thanks,
    nG.

I believe the problem you are having with dropped connections is a known issue with Leopard. From what I have read, Apple will be issuing a fix with the 10.5.3 release. Of course, since Apple doesn't publicly discuss future updates, we'll just have to see if this does get fixed.

  • Mac internet connection problems

hey, i don't know where to post this exactly. i'm in a coffee shop with with wireless access. i can get mail, most websites, but trying to connect to msn messenger or even msnbc website is a problem. it just hangs. seems i have all kinds of problems in general with anything over the net that's related to microsoft + pc network. this particular problem is here, doesn't happen in my house, but obviously it's related in some way to msn.
anyone have any ideas? is it some network configuration thing i have to change in system prefs, like some proxy or firewall or port issue??

yeah, msn messenger is a stand alone app.
but the thing is that there is no indication that anything is being blocked, it just hangs like it's trying to load or connect and never happens, and eventually times out (if that's the proper term), yet meanwhile yahoo and skype work.
it would be one thing if it told me i couldn't access something for some reason, or if there was a problem with internet connection.
seems to me to be some port configuration or firewall issue or general mac/pc-biased-world connection issue, as a few random web pages (like msnbc.com) don't load for whatever reason. 2 services related to msn that don't work, seems more than a coincidence.
again, i can't see why a random coffee shop would inconvenience the loading up msnbc.com, it's not like i'm on the Pentagon's network or anything. a lot of work and conspiring for a bunch of minimum wage workers.
    but i could be wrong.

  • Mac air clock problems

Ok sothis one is a major problem because I set it for today and a couple days later it has the wrong time, day, day number in the month and the year some one help me.

Normally the option in System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time tab > "Set date and time automatically" choice of time servers is checked.  Verify that the proper time server is checked.  If the time server is giving you incorrect results then uncheck the option and set date/time manually.

  • Mac air screen problems.

Any ideas? It started on the left and moved to the right.

Try a pram reset, This will reset the data that carries screen resalution and configuration.

If that doesn't work its most likely a video card issue and needs to be taken to the apple store

  • Mac air book ssd questions(i'm new here)

hi, i am new here on this forum. i've been debating/planning on buying the mac air book ssd for some weeks now already...but recently spend a hour reading through all the mac air book problems on here it's making me think twice. i mean the machine looks awsome and etc..but i've been hearing it has wireless problems...one thing about me is that i'm a wireless guy and that is the sole purpose i will be buying this machine for. have they fix these problems yet on the air? like freezing, over-heating, and wireless problems? any answers will greatly be appreciated.
    thanks

I can tell you to go with the 1.8/64GB SSD if you can. Especially with the price drop. I know from experience that when I had the 1.6/80 (was returned because of a heat issue), I upgraded to custom 1.8/80GB HDD and there is a difference. I now use it as a primary computer with no issues. For the $500 more, go with SSD if you can... much faster read rates, snappy overall, and very quick startup times. Some people say go for HDD, but I do notice it is sluggish at times, but still okay overall for the price and extra space.
About freezing, yes, I've had the odd freeze, but probably general computer related, such as when I leave it on all the time and use sleep on/off. Perhaps an app is causing this, so I now try to restart every once in a while. Other than that, it is rock solid and I carry this computer everywhere becuase it is so portable. I purchased the Speck SeeThru Smoke Case... looks great, and easier to carry around (but it is heavy at first). About wireless issues, never had an issue, it works like a charm.

  • I currently have an iphone that i connect to my mac air to download music, i have now bought a nano for my wife can we use both devices on the same air without any problems???

i currently have an iphone that i connect to my mac air to download music, i have now bought a nano for my wife can we use both devices on the same air without any problems???

My wife and I both have the iPhone 4 and it's actually pretty simple. Add another user on your MBA (her) and she can use the other iTunes when she is logged in. The iTunes is empty and will erase her iPhone, so be sure that she syncs her iPhone, then back up her library onto a portable media device like I did (SD Card) and reload it onto her empty iTunes on your MBA before she attempts to sync with it.
    Works well...

  • Connecting Mac Air to TV and sound problems

I have a Mac Air 13, 2011 and have connected it to my Sharp Aquos TX using the Mac HDMI adapter, I get picture on TV and computer but sound only on computer.  What do I need to do in the settings?

Select your TV as the output device in System Preferences > Sound > Output tab > click on the TV.
You can also hold OPT as you click on the sound icon in the menubar to select the output device.

  • Connecting MAC Air to Projector - which is better, hdmi, vga or usb?

Connecting MAC Air to Projector - which is better, hdmi, vga or usb?

HDMI is thje preferred digital replacemnt for older analog video standards, which your other choices use. It offers far higher signal and definition quality.
Apple has an adapter that is used with your Thunderbolt port/ Mini DisplayPort, if yours is equipped as such.
I've not had a problem with this. It is a Belkin.

  • My new Mac Air continues to disconnect from WiFi after going to sleep.  When waking it up I have to manually re-connect.  How do I keep it connected?

My new Mac Air continues to disconnect from WiFi after going to sleep.  When waking it up I have to manually re-connect.  How do I keep it connected?

I had this problem too and solved it by doing a clean install. After that it was gone.
This is a drastic method since it takes quite some time to reinstall lion and all your software.
Thoughts I had why it started working after a clean install are the following:
It looked like the airport wasn't able to reconnect fast enough before the connection timed out. So what could have prevented my mac from being able to connect fast enough?
Apps that consume processor cycles. I love what I would call 'System Enhancers', little apps that enhance my workflow (Moom, Alfred, Dropbox, Default Folder etc). I'm not saying that these are the problem, they might be programmed processor friendly, but check if you have apps that consume processor cylcles. It might prevent airport from being able to reconnect quickly enough before it times out.
Mobile Config profiles. Another thought I had was that I had a mobile config 802.1X profile installed for the company were I worked. It used TTLS to connect to the corporate network. This profile might have gotten in the way.
    And a sidenote...
Routers with hardware acceleration might also be a problem. My router is a Wireless Gigabit Router 300N WL-351 and has hardware acceleration. As soon as I activate that my wifi connection keeps dropping. It is as if a Macbook Air can't handle that amount of optimisation.
That's it, hope it helps those who are still having the problem.
    Best, Jan

  • Mac book air connects to internet w/ lag and drops

my macbook air has been working for the past year, but recently my internet has been lagging and disconnecting by itself every 30 seconds. all my computers connect through a router and modem but only the mac air is having internet problems. it keeps saying "the page cannot be displayed" even though airport shows that it is connected to the internet. (note: the mac air works flawlessly when I connect to other wifi locations outside of home)
    router: netgear
    all the things I've tried.
    -editing keychain settings
-deleting my network and creating a new one
    -resetting modem and router
    -resetting airport
    -changing dns and ip settings
    -resetting the mac air
    -turning off bluetooth
    -changing browser settings
    -smashing the router around
    nothing has worked....
p.s. there was one day where I changed my router and it worked for one day, the next day it didn't work again.

What are your wireless encryption settings? WEP, WPA2? Have you tried it with no encryption? Was it faster? Sometimes if you have rearranged the room or moved the router, interference can start. I also would download istumbler and see if you have neighbors using the same or adjacent channels. It will also show you the noise on your Netgear. Maybe this will bring some ideas to you:
