Seems to be an expected behavior due to the additional "stress/workload" from the external display.

  • Why does my mac mini getting hot

why does my mac mini get hot and run fan speeds up high.  I've added ram and do not understand the temperature flucuations.

How hot is hot?  What programs are you running when it gets hot?

  • Does the macbook air get hot from use?

I am considering purchasing a Macbook Air.  I have had problems with notebook PC's in the past getting very hot.
Does the Macbook Air get hot from use?

Yes, well, virtually every computer has a fan in it; many fail their mission.
Now that you mention it, I saw no grill or mesh anywhere when I looked at the MBA at the Apple Store.  Is it where the lid meets the body?  I didn't see speakers, either, although I heard music.

  • Why is my Mac Air still hot when I put then in sleeping mode?

Hi,I wonder why is my Mac Air still hot when I put then in sleeping mode?

I just looked in my history - can't find the link. I was googling for about 15 minutes out of curiousity before.. just researched more though. I think its an integrated circuit (the IC part) that is a combination of both analog and digital die sensor readings:
"Many embedded systems need to read sensors that produce analog signals. Since processors are built to interpret and process digital data, i.e. 1s and 0s, they are not able to do anything with the analog signals that may be sent to it by a device. So the analog to digital converter is used to convert the incoming data into a form that the processor can recognize."
    Analog Die - Analog : 125
    CPU Die - Digital Core : 129
    x19 controller IC: 264
    125 + 129 = 254....close....
Thank you for asking! You spurred further investigation
And your computer temperatures look absolutely fine. I wouldn't worry at all.

  • My mac is getting hot

i want to know if it is normal that the base of my computer gets hot, what should i do?

Hey mauac and welcome to the forum -
The key to keeping your Mac as cool as possible is proper ventilation. Avoid resting your MacBook on a soft surface such as your lap, bedspread, carpet, or dirty laundry. Instead, keep it on a hard surface like a desk, tile floor, or a hard cover book. Also, try not to block any of the air vents located in the rear by the hinges and the keyboard. There are some products to elevate your MacBook on a stand so that it's has airflow all around that work well. Use your MacBook in a cooler environment when possible. A nice air conditioned building is much better than outdoors in the heat of summer.
    Hope these suggestions help -GDF

  • New mac air running hot!  Anyone having same problem?

I downloaded Lion last night on my Mac Book Air (purchased Feb of this year).  The fan would hardly run before as computer would rarely get hot.  Now it is running constantly since download.  Anyone else having similar issue?  Is there a solution to this?

I had the same problem Mac late 2010, 2.13 Intel core duo 4GB RAM 2
    Lion was installed as update.
    as result:
CPU on 80 °C and to keep it between 70 and 80 °C fan had to work on 6500 RPM.
    I used Istat.
repaired permissions, no result, reset the SMC and so on... no results.
lately reading also other posts, I started to disable 1 by 1 the start up items.
the antivirus Sophos +  the time machine auto back up -on off was quite successful
now I have a 4000 RPM = quite decent as noise level and CPU at 40-47 °C.
had nothing to do with the flash or browsing, and so on.
Spotlight, yess is pushing the temp up, but is not running 24/7
Check your startup items, the answer can be there
    Maybe helps
    Good luck!

  • Mac Air backlit keyboard light is ON always.

The keyboard light does not respond to ambient light. As I remember when i first bought it, the keyboard lights does not turn on in brightly lit environment.
But now it's on ALWAYS. I always feel that my mac air gets hot easier than before... when it gets really hot, performance is low.
( A month ago, I took my mac air to APPLE to fix cuz no sound came out of loudspeakers output nor earphones output. In the end they told me they had replaced something inside to fix the problem. But the keyboard light and easily-get-hot problem remains...I'm not sure if the staff remembered to check that for me.)

    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard
    Adjust the settings.
    Is it set to "Never"?

  • MB Getting hot and making a noise?

I noticed that my mb is making a noise that sounds similar to a fan running or something like that and is getting warm to the touch. I have had it for about 2 months and it hasn't ever done this before... What should I do? OH, Btw... I am a MB baby. This is the first one I have ever used.

What apps are you using for videos ?
Did you clean inside the MBP? if no, It might be the cooling fan, all the dust around the fan and make it run slower and your mac will getting hot.

  • Updated Mac Air to Mountain Lion and now I can not create new email in Hot Mail

Updated Mac Air to Mountain Lion and now I can not create new email in Hot Mail

    Greetings,
What you posted is rather vague. By doesn't work do you mean the applications don't open at all or are you getting a message stating that your product needs activation? If it's product activation then that is something that Microsoft will have to assist you with. If your problem is that the applications simply won't open you may have to uninstall and reinstall Office again. This is common on the Windows platform too. Rarely when you upgrade to a new OS Office sometimes has an issue with the upgrade and won't open correctly. I would suggest merely uninstalling and reinstalling. Nine times out of ten that helps.

  • MacBook air get too hot

I have MacBook Air 11 Inch.
It's get too hot whenever I used MacBook. Also whenever it gets hot my Mac get slow.
It was not like that when I bought it.
I like to format my Macbook Air. Like I like to have my MacBook air like first time I got it.
    How i can do it?

well you cant really fix that issue but if you run heavyt apps it tends to overheat but it will not damage the machine thats why they have fans to coll them off
if it gets really hot then take it to the apple store and there might be a problem with the cooling system

    OK. If you believe that.
When the disk is starting to die it can be bad for a moment and then be good for a while. If there was no problem while you were checking it of course it shows up good.
I tell you those are the signs of a disk that is about to die.

  • I am 13 but going into high school next year and possibly an elite boarding school that is 9 hours away from my town. I need to get a mac air for school purposes. How can convince my parents to let me get one?

My house has always had macs and my parents don't like pcs. I don't either. They are slow and so far behind from macs.  So i am going into high schoo next year and parents don't let me on the computer without asking and have them all password protected. I did have my own ibook g4 but it broke randomly. My mom says i will isolate myself from too much scree time and get depressed but i love macs and i would like to work in an apple store someday but i'm not even allowed to buy my own ipod touch with my own money. But my mom has an new imac, ipad and  iphone and ipod and all of this has been gifts to her. But i really need a computer for school. I have written lists of good reasons not like i want it but good ones and asked nicely but my mom just says because and thats the only reason i need to know. and by the way she is a teacher so she thinks technogly is evil. How can i get the mac air??

I really do not want to enter a family discussion about what you should or should not have.  If the MBA is to support your school work then you need to present your arguments on that point.  If there is a concern about using a Mac when the school supports PCs then point out a Mac can also use Windows on a BootCamp partition so it is fully compatible with both systems.
