Mac Air loses home network SSID

I have a MacBook Air that occasionally can't find my home wifi (SSID). The SSID of every network in the local apartment block displays but not mine. It doesn't show in iStumbler either. My iMac can see it and connect to it OK. If I connect manually it works but that's a pest.
So is there any way that a 'saved' SSID can become masked at boot up as seems to be happening?

The loss of connection to wifi after sleep is nothing to do with the TC at a guess.. but typical issue with sleep and wireless.
See the methods of repair for this that Tesserax has prepared.
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3411
I presume the upgrade was to Mavericks.. it does have some network issues.
I would certainly use all SMB naming. Mavericks now uses SMB network protocol by default.
So SMB names are not like apple names.
They are short.. keep to less than 20 characters.. less than 10 even better.
No spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Use only WPA2 Personal security with a 10-20 character purely alphanumeric password.
Finally it can be worthwhile using fixed wireless channels.. test say 11, 6, 1 or whatever you have available in Russia. Same on 5ghz use whatever channels are available but try a low one if possible.. eg 40 and a high one like 149.
I strongly recommend you setup the TC this way.. and use separate names for 2.4 and 5ghz at least until you get it sorted.
eg.. TC name.. TC
2.4ghz name.. TC24ghz
5ghz name.. TC5ghz
Then as per Tesserax, clear out all the old names. So you have a clean slate and only use the TC on one band.. try each and see if it is reliable.

Can anyone please advise what I am doing wrong?

    Hi LowLuster
Thanks for reply. I am not an expert on these sharing protocols but I think I have turned on SMB sharing but still wont connect. I tried adding netwrik drive by using cntrl K in finder and using smb\\network address but nothing. It is driving me mad!!

  • IPad loses home network settings from time to time

IPad 2 loses home wireless Internet from time even though settings still indicate connected...I just click forget this network and sign in with pass word and it connects ok.  Is there a setting to keep IPad from disconnecting from home network while I am in the house?

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Why does the iPhone lose home network connection?

My new iPhone 5 keeps losing my home network connection. Any advice? I've tried resetting network settings, turning the phone off and on again and turning the router off and on again. Thanks.

I'm looking into that possibility.......have a cordless phone in the office, a PC, cell phones, etc. Will clear them out and recheck. The maddening thing is that the iBook is totally bulletproof even in that environment. Why would the iMac be having these issues, but not the iBook? Is Airport Extreme more robust, or that much better than Airport?
Even now, the iMac shows no network - yet I'm writing this on the iBook right next to it, and it's had no network interruption whatsoever.
Do you have any knowledge of those "error" notations from the syslog? Could they be pointing to anything else?
    Thanks much.....

  • Home Network SSID

Setting up a wireless network at home with a d link router...for my wireless settings SSID Broadcast, should it be Enabled or Disabled?? I have an iBook and G4 that connect wirelessly...I heard to use WPA security, it says that my radius server cannot be 0.0.0.0, which is default....What is the radius server ip, port and shared secret?
If I change some of these settings, is it going to change how I connect with my iBook or G4?
    Thank you.

You'll most likely want to set up WPA/WPA2, but whenever you're ready!
Your friends/guests will just need the unadvertised SSID and the Password.
Getting into your Computers is mostly controlled by the Firewall settings... Personal File Sharing and such.

  • Sharing one library across multiple Macs on a Home Network

Firstly apologies if this has already been dealt with. I have searched but cannot find exactly what I am looking for.
My set up is as follows. I have a Mac Book. I run iTunes and my iTunes database is currently on my Mac Book. The actual music and video collection is all on a Home Server that is connected by cable to an Airport Extreme Base Station.
When I log into my Mac, the server is auto-mounted, and my iTunes library points to the folder on the server.
    So here are my issues:
    1. I am so impressed with Macs that I am about to purchase a Mac desktop. Is there a simple way that a non-technical person can understand, to ensure that I see the same iTunes library whether I use the laptop in the garden or the desktop in the study? I do not want to have to keep updating two separate libraries with changes (that's what the computer should do) rather I want the IT to do it automatically for me.
    2. I also share my entire music collection with my partner. Now sometimes one of us buys a CD we both like from the iTunes Store. If my partner does this and does not tell me, we end up with different libraries that do not match. Is there any way around this problem?
Looking forwrd to any help you can offer.

  • Want to share application data between Mac's on home network.

    Hello,
We currently have one iMac at home and I would like to start using separate logins for different family members, but I want to be able to share applications (Mail, Address Book, ICal, iPhoto, etc.) across accounts. Can it be done? I would hate to have to set up all the email account information again or have duplicate copies of the large iPhoto library. Or two separate versions of address book and iCal.
This issue is also the #1 reason why I hesitate to purchase another iMac or MacBook for our house. I want to be able to be sitting downstairs on the MacBook and access the, for example iCal and not have to run 2 different versions and worry about synching them.
    Any input is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brad.

Hi Brad, OSX is setup to keep all this account info seperate, but on iPhoto for example, you can...

  • Connecting mac ibook to home network

My Windows 7 laptop is working with my Cisco router.  REPEATEDLY trying to connect a mac ibook, but it asks for password.  I enter the one that is given for windows computers, but it won't work with the mac.  I can only connect if I run wire from router to the mac.

Can you please try to put a dollar sign before the password? That works most of the time.

  • Sharing iOS updates between multiple Macs on same home network

    Good morning -
Does anyone know if it it's possible to share the iOS update file from one Mac to another? I downloaded iOS 4.3.1 for my iPhone 4 this morning, but if I can avoid having to download it all over again on my wife's Mac for her iPhone, that would be great! If the file is in the Finder somewhere, I would think I could move it over using File Sharing...
    Thanks for any help!

  • Nokia 6230 loses home network

I have had this problem now for over 6 months. I am with Vodafone and the network just drops out for texts but the worst thing is, I dont know its done it until People ring me to let me know. I then have to do a manual network search and the texts come flooding in.
Vodafone told me over 3 months ago that they had network problems but I would have thought this would have been sorted by now
So its now got me thinking that it may be a setting somewhere on the phone itself
Has anyone got any ideas please? Its driving me nuts!!! (and i missing loads of texts)

    Hi swift47
Having just read your post it doesn't sound like a fault with your phone.
As you're aware Vodafone has been experiencing problems with customers receiving text messages. As we know how important this is I'd like you know that we want to get this fixed as quickly as possible and to make sure that we fix it for good.
I can see from your post that after performing a manual roam your text messages are coming through. I'd recommend that you continue do this throughout the day in the short term as this is clearly working for you (even though I know it's not ideal).
I appreciate this is frustrating but I'd like to reassure you that Vodafone is currently implementing a fix gradually which is around 75% complete with the remaining 25% due to be completed by the end of the month.
The reason for the gradual implementation is to enable our engineers to fully monitor this and make sure that the fix is working and doesn't affect any other services.
If you need any further information you might want to visit Vodafone's eForum through this link http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?act=idx which will provide you with quick updates on the text messaging problems which our customers are already talking about and that we're constantly updating as soon as new and up to date information is available.
Hope this helps and if you need anything else don't hesitate to post again.

  • Can't 'see" other computers on my home network

I just added a third Mac to my home network. We already had a G4 running OSX.2 and an iBook running OSX.4. I've now added a G4 running OSX.4, but the new computer doesn't "see" the other computers in the network list.
On the first G4, if I browse the network (by pressing apple-K) I see the other two computers, the iBook and the new G4.
On the iBook, if I open a finder window and click the "Network" icon, I get the other two computers listed.
But on the new G4, if I open a finder window and select the Network icon, I get three folders, "Applications", "Library", and "Users". And these three folders are apparently empty.
I DO have internet connection, so the connection is okay. And if I press apple-K to get a server list, and type in the IP address of one of the other two computers, I can access them that way. But why don't they show up on the Network list? What do I have configured wrong? Obviously, I CAN use the "apple-k" connect-to-servers-by-typing-in-the-IP-address method, but it's not as "nice" as having them just show up in the network window.
I'm sure it's something simple that I missed, and I'll probably feel like an idiot when someone points it out, but fire away folks!

make sure you have your automounter running. Do this in a terminal to make sure:
    ps aux|grep -i automount
If it is not running, you may have turned it off using some utility (bad idea). It's controlled by the NFS startup item and should be enabled so the OSX API can listen for traffic on port 548, which is the Apple Fileshare Protocol port of register.
if this is confusing, I can give more detail when I arrive at my home.

Ah, it looks like I should have read your title more carefully. Are the  files on the PCs that you want to share with your iMac in a shared folder?
If not, follow the steps on this page to set up shares from Windows 7.
If that is already set up, connect to the share from the iMac using this article.

  • Share iTunes Library on home network and edit from all computers?

I'd like to share my iTunes library on the 3 Macs on my home network and be able to edit the library (add songs, edit titles, add cover art, etc.) from any of the computers. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!

  • Sample secure home network

    Dear,
I'm looking for a sample architecture and configuration sample for a small home network.
    I have 2 x WAP321, SMB-SG 300 switch and ISA firewall.
    Thanks.
    Joris

    Joris,
Thank you for clarifying that the firewall is an ASA not an ISA.  A couple of suggestions to get started.
    Install ASDM
If you haven't already, plug in the ASA and connect your PC to it.  Your PC should get an IP via DHCP.  Browse to the default gateway and on the homepage will be a link to download ASDM.  Download and install it.  Use ASDM to connect to your ASA going forward.  It's a pretty nice UI that will make configuring the ASA much easier than CLI, unless your very comfortable with CLI.
Ensure you need outside access to Home Control
Since your connection is PPPoE, I'm also assuming you don't have a static IP from your provider meaning that your public IP may change from time to time.  The reason this is important is because if you are needing the ability to browse to your Home Network from outside your home, then you would either need a static IP that never changes (preferred) or utilize something like DDNS (less reliable).  All that said, there is a distinct possibility that you wouldn't need to worry about any of that.  Most, if not all, of the Home Control providers make this part easy by acting as a bridge between your outside access to your Home Control and your internal Home Control system.  What that means is that your Home Control system is checking into their system on a regular basis and their system leverages that regular checkin to control it.  You browse to their website to gain access to your Home Control system.  This generally doesn't require a static IP or any special configuration on your end.  It just requires that your Home Contol system has access to the internet and that certain ports are open.
I'd recommend contacting your Home Control system provider and ask them if you need a Static IP at your house to control your system.  Odds are the answer will be no.  I'd also ask them what ports need to be open from your Home Control system to their system for everything to function correctly.  They should provide you with a list of ports (i.e. TCP 80, TCP 443, UDP xxx, etc.)
Not only do you need this information to determine how to configure your firewall and if you have everything necessary from your ISP, but also to determine if you really need another SSID for your Home Control or if it can also be on your Home Network.  Some people may still prefer to put it on it's own SSID, for security reasons, but this also makes setting up and managing the network more complex for it to truly be secure.  For it to truly be secure, we would not only put it on its own SSID, but we would ensure that nothing else has access to the SSID.  So to directly connect to it internally, you would have to disconnect from your Home Network SSID and attach to the Home Control Network SSID.  If you're not going to make it secure, there's really no point to putting it on its own SSID.
