I would like to darken my Mac Air screen, so I can use may external display and the keyboard on the notebook--it is possible on a PC-does it work on a Mac?

    Sure it's possible.
Go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo on the top left of the menu).
Choose "Display".  There's a slider bar for the screen brightness.  Adjust it and you're all set.

  • Mac air screen flicker

my mac air screen flickers for no reason, does not appear to depend on the hinge, or power connected or not.
hard reset keeps it down for a while **** screens out while writine this....

You can perform the following two procedures and see if there is a difference:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
But, I would strongly suspect a hardware issue related to your display, for which no online troubleshoot exists.
Perform the Apple Hardware Test (or Apple Diagnostics depending on your model), and see if anything turns up:
Using Apple Hardware Test - Support - Apple
If the issue isn't resolved, bring your machine into Apple for a definitive and free diagnosis

  • Mac Air screen dimming

My Mac Air screen has started to randomly dim.  To get it back to normal brightness, I have to click on the color tab.
In Display options, I have the 'Automatically adjust brightness' box unticked.  In Energy Saver options, all the options to dim the display are unticked.
Help!  It only started happening a couple of weeks ago but it's rather annoying!
    Thanks.

There's a slight chance this will help:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Otherwise it needs to be serviced.

  • LINES DOWN MAC AIR SCREEN

I have lines down my mac air screen, but they are not always there. And also, when I first boot the mac and presented with the apple logo they are not there, they only appear when it goes to the log in/enter password screen. Making me think its not a hardware issue? Its like a bar code, not coloured. I fresh installed Mountain Lion today.

    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
If this does not help, contact Apple.
    Best.

  • Mac air screen not displaying correctly

I have a Mac Air 13' screen. Recently I was using it and someone put a lemon head on the keyboard and slammed the screen down on it for no reason.
The screen is now displaying a grey screen with a white vertical line down the middle. When I turn the computer off and then back on the screen is
exactly the same. When I type I cannot see anything that I type. I have a two year warranty on my computer. I am just wanting to know if there is anytthing
that I can do without sending it in. If there is not, who or what am I supposed to call to send in the computer to fix it. Also would Ribbit computers or another computer repair store, would they be able to fix my screen without me sending it in to Apple. Any information would be appreciative and very helpful! Thanks for reading!

  • Mysterious pinhole in Mac Air screen?

Hello everyone, I have been reading about a similar problem on some pro models with retina display but I just want to see if anyone else has this blemish on their devices.  Recently I cleaned my 13 inch mac air and realized that there is a tiny pin-sized hole in the screen.  I am very careful with my laptop and always make sure that the keyboard is free of dust before I shut it.  I have been reading things about 'exploding pixels' online, is this true?  I see no possible way how anything could've punctured my screen from the outside.  My Mac air is an early 2014 model and I have had it for about 7 months now, Thank you for any help you can offer!

You can look at the iFixit.com and the Powerbookmedic.com web sites for parts and instructions.  Or you may take the MBA to an Apple store genius bar and have them effect the repair.
    Ciao.

  • Why does my Mac Air screen keep flashing white?

I have been having a few issues with my Mac Air. Sometimes, it randomly flashes white/grey (I can still see the programs I have on). It just happens randomly and I'm getting worried....
    Can anyone help?
(Please note I am most definatly not Tech Savvey so please try to simplify things if possible_

Make sure that "Screen Flashing" is not turned on.
System Prefernces > Accessibility > "Audio" under Hearing
Uncheck the box beside "Flash the screen when an alert occurs".

  • Mac air screen problems.

Any ideas? It started on the left and moved to the right.

Try a pram reset, This will reset the data that carries screen resalution and configuration.

If that doesn't work its most likely a video card issue and needs to be taken to the apple store
