Mac Airplay Mavericks (NOT MIRRORING)

I've looked throught the other threads and cant find the answer I'm looking for. Just prior to installing Mavericks the Airplay icon on the top right of my menu bar gave me the option to stream my sound to airplay devices WITHOUT MIRRORING. Now to do the same thing I have to open preferences > sound> choose device to stream sound to.
The reason this is so important to me is I use my apple tv connected to my surround sound as my primary speakers because im always listening to music. My apple TV is connected to the same Display as my computer so i could in theory turn the mirroring on to bypass my issue but when i try that my dual display ability is lost... as in the second display isnt its own screen anymore. The only time I use the Apple TV for video and audio is when watching a movie or other video (to keep the video and sound in sync since if i only stream the sound it ends up lagging behind the video.
So basically my question boils down to is there a way to get the old functionality bac or am I doomed to having to open my preferences constantly?

AirPlay will not mirror IPad. No picture and IPad gets very slow.

If you aren't receiving a picture it's not mirroring, basic airplay is a separate feature.
If mirroring was specifically enabled (this cannot be done within an app, only through control centre) and a developer specifically blocked this (which is rare but some do) you would receive an error message.
Is it only slow when using this app/site?

  • Airplay sound not mirroring after first time until restart

    Anyone else seeing this issue?
When we connect either the iMac or the MacBook Pro to our 2nd generation apple tv via airplay the first time, the sound goes to the tv as expected.
If we try to use airplay a second time, the sound stays on the computer, though the picture shows up on the tv. If we try to change the sound in preferences to the apple tv, the airplay connection is broken. Once we restart the computer, the sound works as expected.
All of the latest system software updates have been applied.

That is right - upgrade to Mac as in purchase a Mac which now have Intel processors and the ability to also install and use Windows XP or Vista along with OS X on the same computer.
I wonder if u have gone thru Apple's OS X license agreement recently?
I have gone through the Apple website recently but I don't need to. Regardless, the answer remains the same and will not change. If you want to run OS X, you need to purchase a Mac.

  • Mac with Mavericks not allowing to Save As, crashes when opening files, sloooow

***_{NSArrayM objectAtindex:]: Index 20 beyond bounds [0..15} is a error I get often

    I agree with Chris.
Since I installed Mavericks, ANY TIME I use File>Open or Save As from ANY app at all... I get a 30 second or longer view of the "spinner" going round and round until i can finally see the folder I etiher want to open a file from or save one to.
It's a real P.I.T.A. and I eagerly await the 10.9.1 update that will hopefully fix it.

  • Maverick. Mirroring Screen to TV Airplay Icon Not visible in Menu bar

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my OS to Maverick 10.9.1 from Snow leopard. My Laptop is a Macbook 13" Aluminium Late 2008.
How do I get the Airplay Icon to appear in the Menu Bar so that I can Mirror whats on my macbook to my Television. This is the only reason that I upgraded to maverick as I was informed in an Apple Store that this is what I needed to do.
I have apple TV,(May 2013) and my Itunes is registered with this TV and works fine, as does my Iphone. I have also updated the apple TV with the latest software.
I have looked at the Display in preferences, and the show Mirroring options in the menu bar when available is ticked. There are no other options.
I can choose Apple tv in my sound options as my Output, so the macbook recognises the Apple TV, but only with sound, not Mirroring.
I hope this makes sense. I have gone through all of the apple help pages, and I am still no further forward.
    Thanking you all in Advance
    Greg Simms

AirPlay Mirroring (which allows you to mirror your screen to the Apple TV) is only compatible with 2011 and newer Macs, being this the reason why you do not see the mirroring icon. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
As you cannot use AirPlay Mirroring, you can use a third-party application that does the same job, like AirParrot.

Installing Maverick does not change the hardware requirements.
Did it work prior to installing Maverick?

  • Early 2009 Mac Pro, Mavericks, and Airplay

Yes, I'm sure this question has been asked and answered a thousands times, but I have been looking in vain for an answer that helps me.
I have an early 2009 Mac Pro, running Mavericks.  I have a Denon AVR-1912 Receiver, which my iPhone and iPad see and can play through with no trouble.  So can my MacBook Pro.  I also have Apple TV, but I don't use it for streaming music because the Denon works well.
What I want to do is sit at my Mac Pro desktop and play songs through iTunes that play not only through my desktop system but through my home theater system (the Denon Receiver).  I'm used to clicking on the little Airplay icon and getting to choose Single or Multiple speakers.  When I go to System Prefs/Sound, I see my sound card (Presonus Firestudio) AND I see Apple TV and my Denon.  So my computer is seeing them both.
Here's what happens.  If I choose the Firestudio in System Prefs, it plays as always through my desktop system, but there is no Airplay icon in iTunes. If I choose Denon in System Prefs, iTunes plays music through the Denon AND I get the Airplay icon in iTunes.  If i click on the icon and I choose Multiple, I can choose Airplay Device, which is already checked, and Computer.   If I click on Computer, the Airplay icon disappears in iTunes, and the music starts playing through my computer's internal speakers, not through my Firestudio sound card, and it stops playing through the Denon.
Why does the Airplay icon not give me an option to play through my sound card and the Denon?  Why, in other words, can't I do what I said I wanted to do in the third paragraph, above?  Is it possible or is my Mac Pro too old?
    Many thanks,
    Paul

I found out that the built in firewall interferes with AirPlay (which I know is weird).
Try turning the OS X firewall off using System Settings -> Security. If AirPlay now works, turn on the firewall and add "coreaudio" to the list of exceptions. This worked for me.
Coreaudio is the system driver for audio, by the way.

  • Airplay itunes but not mirror screen

    Hi,
New to this discussion group. I've tried finding an answer to my question with no avail.
I have a mid 2011 mac mini w intel hd graphics 3000 288mb and have mac os x lion 10.7.4
I can mirror my itunes easily on the new apple tv I have on my wi fi network.
However, I can not mirror my mac mini desktop to the apple. While I can with my mac book pro.
Why the Itunes and not the Mac mini? It is included in the list of available machines on the apple website
and I was told by an apple representive at the apple store that it would work.
    Thanks

To do airplay mirroring, you need to have 10.8 on your mac mini, unless it's plugged into the apple tv

  • IPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.1) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.5 on Mac OSX Mavericks. Frustration Station.

iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.1) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.5 on Mac OSX Mavericks. Have tried all of the recommendations on the apple support site, I am running all current up to date versions of iTunes(11.1.5), Mac OSX(Mavericks), AND iOS 7.1.1 on my iPhone 4 and nothing has worked. Also tried doing some recommendation of deleting some ".plist" files in the preferences as I had seen on this support forum and my iPhone is still not recognized in iTunes at all. I plug my iPhone into my MacBook Pro and it makes the sound like it's connected and charging, but when I go "devices" in iTunes, it is all greyed out. I have had this iPhone since May 2011 and have synced it to this computer numerous times since then, with the last time being before I updated to Mavericks which was sometime in April. Not sure where to go from here, I've tried to delete iTunes and re-install, but when I try to drag the iTunes icon from "applcations", the system tells me I cannot do so as it is required by OSX. So, what gives?

durrrrr. nevermind. re-installed itunes and it looks good for now.

  • My mac mini will not shutdown with either Mavericks or Yosemite (following a clean install)

First noted while running Mavericks, my Mac-Mini will not shutdown.  It just hangs on a black screen with the little icon.  I created a clean user account and the problem went away.  Rather than do a fresh install of Mavericks, I waited until Yosemite came out.  I reformatted the drive and did a fresh Yosemite install.  I then restored my apps and data only to find the problem is still present.  I've also tried stopping many of the applications I would normally expect might cause the problem with no luck.  And I tried the one Yosemite suggestion regarding deleting the Library/Caches folder content with no luck.
My naive question:  following the fresh install of Mavericks, should I have done a re-install of my (very many) applications instead of a restore from an image?
I've tried looking at the system logs after I've forced a shutdown with the power button but there's nothing I could find that shows any problems.
Any other suggestions of things to try would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Thanks.
    It is running 10.5.8.
I am trying to boot up an external drive with 10.5.8 on it. It works on my Macbook Pro which is running 10.5.8, runs on my IMAC running SL. But doesnt work on the mac mini?
It had been running SL, however there are a number of programs I have like Windows Live Sync which are not yet compatable with SL so i downgraded to 10.5.6 which came with the Mac Mini then loaded all updates.
It seems to just go into an auto reboot as soon as i click on it.
i thought it might be the firmware? Is it possible to downgrade them and then re-install?
    I have reset the PRAM.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

After upgrading to Mavericks my Mac Pro does not open my double CD drives when I hit eject in the menu bar it locks up (please Help)?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

  • I had just upgraded my OS to the OS X Mavericks.  After doing so, I noticed that my MS Outlook for Mac 2011 does not sync with the calendar/contacts/notes, thus, also not sync these info with my iPhone4s anymore.  Please help, thank you.

    Dear Sirs,
I had just upgraded my OS to the OS X Mavericks.  After doing so, I noticed the following changes:
    1) My MS Outlook for Mac 2011 does not sync with my Mac book's calendar/contacts/notes.
    2) My iPhone4s does not sync with my Mac book's calendar/contacts/notes anymore.
    Please help, thank you.

Correct, USB local sync was taken away from iphones and ipads with 10.9.1 and 2. We are not allowed to speculate on rumours it might come back in 10.9.3 plus new iTunes. Either wait and see or explore Syncmate 5 beta free trial.
    icloud still works.
Cant help with the Outlook problem.

My mac desktop will not provide sound from internal speakers.  When I go to audio devices window it only shows airplay.  How can I get internal speakers back.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
