Mac Alias Issue

When I create a Alias to a networked storage "watch folder" that a PC box is suppose to pick up the alias registers as 0kb and when I try to open the file on the PC in notepad nothing comes up. So why are Mac alias's not readable by PC and how do I get around this?

I think you mis-understood what I'm trying to do...
I have a file in Location A and I want what I know as a shortcut in location B - SO on my mac I select the file in location A. Do file make alias then copy that Alias to location B - but the computer that watches the folder at location B is a PC and when I go over to the PC and look at the alias at location B it says 0kb so there's nothing there and its not pointing to any file.

  • .Mac Alias  - Small Niggling Problem for New Apple User

    Hi,
I have very recently purchased my very first Apple computer - and yes, i am one of those life long MS-DOS/Windows users who have been lured by the ease and simplicity of the iPod (which apparently a lot of people are loath to admit, but hey, I'm not proud).
Anyhow, having got my nice new shiny system out of its box, and up and running, I set-up up a new .MAC account, and then set-up one alias, the thing is my 'alias' mail is not ending up in my .Mac mailbox, but my other mailbox which belongs to my broadband ISP.
Basically in Apple Mail ( I have OS X Tiger.10.4.3) I have an 'InBox' which shows everything from my two accounts, and separate mailboxes within : One called 'BlueYonder' who is my broadband ISP, and a second mailbox called '.Mac Mail'. IYSWIM?
Now ALL of the mail sent to my standard .Mac account address ends up in the .Mac mailbox, and the 'collective' InBox, but and here is the puzzle, any mail sent to my .Mac ''alias'' goes into the 'Collective' InBox and my 'BlueYonder' mailbox, but not into my .Mac mailbox!
I sent an email to the .Mac support team, and they said that it was either an issue with Apple Mailbox, and that I should look in here at the 'Discussions' or I have a Rule set-up.
Well I don't have a rule set-up except the one that was already set-up when I first bought my system. This is set to just highlight in Blue any mail from any 'Apple' address. No rules are set to move or change locations etc.
So can anyone,if possible please advise me what is going on with my mailbox and also how I can rectify it if possible please?
Thanks and all the best for the New year to you all.

Drusus - would be good for you to share your findings here. It might help anyone else with the same problem in the future.
    Thanks,
    Brocks.

  • Using .Mac alias in Mail

I have created a .mac alias on the .mac website. I then created a .mac account using this alias in Mail. (In additon to my orginal .mac account) However, I am unable to send mail using it. It asks for a password. I'm assuming you use the orginial .mac account password. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Sue

You don't create a .Mac account alias as a separate account with Mail.
All messages sent to a .Mac account alias are deposited in your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox. To send messages from a .Mac account alias, you select the alias email address from the Account selection located under the message header when composing a message.

Don't think this is anything to do with SQL or PL/SQL.
I guess you need to try an Oracle Apps forum.

  • .Mac alias as primary address

I'd like to use one of my .Mac aliases as my primary e-mail address, now. Hence, I thought, I would have to enter this alias as the e-mail address in the .Mac e-mail account setting of Mail. After doing so, Mail is asking me, if I wanted to save the changes, and - of course - I'm klicking the "Save" button. Unfortunately without effect. Mail always changes the e-mail address back to my .Mac ID. Why?

    Thorsten,
The alias for a .mac account is not entered into the Email Address, as it is with other types of accounts, but rather is available in the pull-down of available addresses in the From box.
To establish a .mac alias as the preferred From address, open Mail Preferences/Composing, and select the alias where it says: "Send new mail from ____" . See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml947.html
which is also in Mail Help, and also see:

As mentioned in msg 12 & 13 VLAN is our WLAN.

    Hi Devils,
    Answer is in below -
    1. Are those MAC addresses actual Wireless Hosts? i.e have you traced them?
= Yes, those are actual wireless MAC add, I have check in zone director controller.
    2. Are the SSID's set to tunnel?
    =No
    3. Do you have one ZoneDirector or two?
=Two, both of them are connected with core switch.
I have been confirmed about that  if wireless users are roaming between two AP or more it will appear the same error msg, now what would be the solution. ????
    What extly the solution is?>
Where should i implement the solution on switch or zone director?
    Please suggest!!!!!

  • .e/.mac alias on iphone

Is there anyway yet to easily send messages from the iphone from a .me/.mac alias?
On an unrelated topic, is there any way to edit a user alias in this forum. I have not been able to find a way to modify an alias here.
    Thanks.

If you want to have multiple "from" addresses - whether they are .mac, .me or anything else...the only way to do this is to setup your MobileMe account as an IMAP account instead of letting it automatically configure it for you.
    Mail Account Information:
    Account Type: IMAP
Email Address: [email protected], [email protected], etc
    Full Name
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.me.com
    User Name: (your MobileMe username)
    Password: (your MobileMe password)
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): you will have to use an SMTP server that allows you to send from a different from address with authentication. You can not use default MobileMe SMTP server. If you have a gmail account - you can use gmail smtp but there are some downsides to using gmail, i.e. Outlook clients display "sent on behalf of your gmail account" when they reply to your e-mail.
You will sync this account to your iPhone and use it for e-mail
On your iPhone you will set up a MobileMe account using your MobileMe information, i.e. [email protected] Then you will turn OFF e-mail sync and turn ON the Contacts, Calendars and Bookmarks.
The only downside to this solution (besides it is not as easy as letting it auto configure everything for you) is that you give up "PUSH" e-mail. I found the PUSH e-mail to be too distracting anyway.
This will allow you to set your primary address for sending/replying to e-mail...but still be able to select any of the others when you reply or create e-mail.
The other practical use of this solution is that you can share contacts, bookmarks, calendar with another person, i.e. spouse while having your own e-mail accounts.
My wife and I share bookmarks, addressbook and iCal so that our Macs and iPhone have the same information.

  • .Mac Alias "From field"

I really like the idea of having aliases they keep you main account protected from all sorts of evil. But i have a question concerning sending mail with one of your aliases as the sender.
When i send an email the "from" field of that email displays the full alias email address but i would like to show it my full name just like when sending mail from my regular .mac account. I have searched the forums and help files without luck. I suspect this is not possible but would like to check cause maybe i am just overlooking a setting.
Thanks for you help. I just made the switch from windows to os x and so far i have not one single regret.

    Dirk,
you can use the following AppleScript to change the full name attached to each of your .Mac alias in Mail (note that this won't affect the messages sent from the .Mac webmail interface):
Click to open this script in your Script Editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:500px">if ((get system attribute "sysv") < 4160) then -- 4160 = 0x1040 is Sytem version 10.4.0 (Tiger)
display dialog "This script needs MacOS X version 10.4 or higher" buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    return
    end if
set mailPlist to ((path to preferences folder from user domain as Unicode text) & "com.apple.mail.plist")
    tell application "System Events"
    activate
repeat with eachAccount in property list items of property list item "MailAccounts" of contents of property list file mailPlist
if (get value of property list item "AccountType" of eachAccount) = "iToolsAccount" then exit repeat
    end repeat
if (get value of property list item "AccountType" of eachAccount) is not "iToolsAccount" then
display dialog "No .Mac Account defined." buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    return
    end if
    try
set theAliasDescriptions to (get value of property list item "EmailAliases" of eachAccount)
    on error
display dialog "No .Mac aliases found in Mail's preferences." buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    return
    end try
    repeat with eachAlias in theAliasDescriptions
set |name| of eachAlias to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter name to be used for the .Mac alias corresponding to the address
" & |alias| of eachAlias default answer |name| of eachAlias)
    end repeat
set value of property list item "EmailAliases" of eachAccount to theAliasDescriptions
if process "Mail" exists then display dialog "You need to restart Mail for the changes to take effect." buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    end tell

  • Send Email FROM .Mac Alias??

Does anyone know how to send an email from your .Mac Alias in iPhone?
    Thanks,

Do you use the Mail application on your Mac for accessing your .Mac account and alias email addresses?
If so, all messages addressed to an alias email address are received in the Inbox mailbox for your primary .Mac account. An alias email address is really not a separate email account - it uses the same user name and password as the primary account.
When creating the alias email address as a separate account with the iPhone, you enter the user name and password for your primary .Mac account but your alias email address is entered in the email address field to appear as the sending email address when sending a message with the alias. When an email account is checked for new messages, the account's user name and password is what is used so this is why the same email is delivered to the primary account and to the alias email address which isn't a separate account at the incoming mail server.

  • Delete a valid .Mac alias duplicate in New Mail account list?

Hello: I've searched the archives a bit and found similar topics, but not quite exactly my situation.
One of my .Mac alias addresses appears twice in the New Mail drop down box for selecting the "sending" account. It appears twice because I changed the name to appear in the From field when sending using this account. Although the change appears when logged into .Mac, the account still shows twice in the drop down box in Mail.
Is there some way that I can remove the "obsolete" alias from the drop down box? I've synced with .Mac, but that didn't update the dropdown box.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Using .mac alias on iphone

I would like to use one of my ,mac alias for my return mail on iphone. I try not to use my main .mac email to keep it safe from spammers ect. I see in the setting you can change the email address but I am not sure it is safe to change it to one of my alias' or not. Please let me know.
    Thank you

There is no facility in the iPhone's mail settings to choose an alternate .mac alias.
Additionally, in the .mac mail account settings, there is only one place for entering an e-mail address.
You can do it manually, however.
    1. Add a new account (Settings > Mail > Add Account... > Other
    2. Make sure the IMAP tab is selected above
    3. In the 'address' field, enter your complete alias address, including the '@mac.com'
    4. For every instance of 'User Name' enter your main .mac username (no '@mac.com' necessary)
    5. Incoming host name: mail.mac.com
    6. Outgoing host name: smtp.mac.com
That's it! Tested and works 100% for me.
