Mac and Apple TV

I'm having an issue with my Macbook Pro not "seeing" my Apple TV. My Macbook Pro is 2012, I'm running 10.9.2 and it says there's no updates. I find it really strange because some days I get the Apple TV icon on my toolbar, but mostly not! I've also made sure that the Apple TV is updated.
Any suggestions?

5. Check Firewall Settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu > System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
Block all incoming connections
Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
It made sense to me, but its still puzzling me after restarting a router would (in my first attempt) resolve the issue for a day. This this time I applied the port forwarding TCP and UDP ports and saved the settings in the DLink DIR-655 and both my iPad2 and iPhone 3GS were now again finding the share. My ATV2 is also now accepting the Share.
Tommorrow will be the true test.

Adding a mini mac and Apple TV .

I currently only have a iPhone. But would like to make the plunge to full apple.
I would like a mini mac and Apple TV.
I need advise on the best way to integrate them into my system.
I currently have:
A pioneer amp.
A ps3 and a Blu-Ray player, these plug into the pioneer amp via hdmi.
The amp is connected to my tv via hdmi.
The tv is a 48" Panasonic 3d plasma.
There are 2 spare hdmi ports in the amp.
Can both products be connected by hdmi?
Is that the best way?
Can I plug one to the other and save a hdmi port on the amp?
If so, what cables will I need?

Not all computers can use the "Mirroring" feature found in Mountain Lion.
You can still mirror using iTunes and use "Airplay".

Sorry to say it, but this is normal for Apple TVs. I've owned a TV2 and a TV3, and neither lasted for an entire year. They are quite fragile and of low quality, and as you can see here, quite fussy even when they work. The wi-fi receiver on these are cheap and unreliable.
Consider the $99 an annual rental fee. They rarely work for a whole year, so if you are going to use the platform, you will have to replace them constantly.
Also, when one dies under warranty, never, never send it to Apple for repair. Go to the Apple Store for replacement. I sent my ATV3 in for warranty repair using a box sent to me by Apple, and although FedEx tracking showed it was accepted by Apple, it was never seen again. Apple won't replace it or even return my calls.

HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share? I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all. Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other: "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

Homesharing mac and apple tv and other pcs

I recently deauthorised my mac the reauthorized. It now wont connect to homesharing despite all pcs and apple tv showing correct apple id etc. I've tried obvious stuff like turning homesharing on and off resetting apple tv etc but the units wont recognize each other. The apple account summary shows the correct no of authorized computers - I'm wondering I'd be better off setting up a new apple id?

I doubt setting up a new Apple ID will solve the problem. If you are going to take that approach try de-authorizing all devices first and then add them all back.
Just for the record. You can have up to ten (10) devices authorized. Only five (5) can be computers and Apple TVs do not count against that limit.

AirPlay between Mac and Apple TV

I just bought Apple TV and I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro (2012 model) to Apple TV. I know that I have to go to AirPlay, but my computer does not give me the option. I go to system preferences, settings, and I am not given an option to connect to AirPlay, it just gives me a list of settings for my computer's screen. My Mac's software is up to date as well as my Apple TV. I am just wondering how I can be prompted to connect to AirPlay.

I have no issues connecting my Apple TV to my iphone and ipad, just the Mac is giving me problems.

Picture not in- sync with audio on Mac and Apple TV

I bought "Bait" through the itunes store.
After about 3-5 minutes the sound is behind on the picture. Not synchronized anymore. Apple told me to reload, which I did without any hope of change.
Do you have any ideas???
PS: it's on Apple TV as well as my Mac!!!!!

I am soon going to purchase .mac which will give me a Apple ID and I am aware that my current Apple ID email will not be able to change to this new .mac one as the .mac makes a Apple ID. Is there a way I can merge both together as on my current account I have all of my music that I need to authorize etc and I am looking into not checking my old mail. Is there a way?

Your Apple ID is not necessarily a .Mac e-mail address. You already have an Apple ID since you had to create one to be able to post in these forums. You can change the e-mail address by going to http://myinfo.apple.com/ & signing in where you can then update the information.
Even though I have a .Mac account, that is not my Apple ID & my Apple ID is not my Discussions alias. As a matter of fact, my Apple ID isn't even an e-mail address. I can't remember if I even had a mac.com e-mail address when I got my Apple ID, it's been so long. I do know I have changed my secondary e-mail address more than once (my ISP kept getting changed).

HT201177 switching to multiple displays via i-mac and apple tv works great in video but the audio doesn't switch over.

When I switch to multiple displays the video transfers perfectly through my Apple TV but the audio doesn't come through unless I turn the volume all the way up to it's maximum level, and at that, it's hardly discernible.

So if I understand it, you can't show in your TV what is showing on your MAC screen even though both are connected to the same WIFI-n network? Somehow that just sounds wrong. You know Photo's, Video, Sound, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I think the concept of C&C (Computers and Communications) or convergence of everything is the future. Why shouldn't everything we have not be able to exchange data among themselves? Atv seems like a good product but I think I will wait until the product integrates more than just my Ipod.
