MAC app most equivalent to MS Office products (Word/Powerpoint)

I have a new MacBook Air and want to purchase the MAC version of what I would call MS Word on a PC.  For my excel equivalent, it's numbers, but's what do I buy for Word and Powerpoint?  Guy at the store told me, but I can't recall!!

If you want something that is virtually identical to Office then you may want to try the freeware, Libre Office.

Is there a resource where I can see if my older versions of applications will work after upgrading to 10.8 from 10.6.8?  I have some older Mac apps as well as things like Microsoft word and Adobe professional. I know PowerPC apps won't work, but I can't tell by the version numbers if they are PPC or Intel.

About to update to Snow Leopard from Leopard, however, I was told that I will lose access to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.).  First, is this true?  Second, how have others addressed this lost (i.e. other software programs)?  The cheaper the software package the better with FREE being the ideal.

If you install Snow Leopard, make sure during the install to open the Optional install items. You must turn Rosetta on, which is not installed by default (necessary to run older PowerPC apps such as Office 2004). If you miss the installation of Rosetta, it can still be installed after the fact a couple of ways.

  • Is there any Mac App store equivalent to the jail-broken Locktopus app?

I don't want to jail-break my ipad - but I really need the functionality of this app.

Yes. There were numerous opportunities to create new accounts but I didn't want to do that. There isn't even an Apple Feedback option to complain about the lack of feedback for the Mac App Store.
You can't rid the world of criminals. But imagine if you called 911 and they told you that if you weren't the victim, then you couldn't call to report something.

  • When my mac starts up, all my MS office products (Excel, PP, Word) open. How do I stop this?

every time my mac starts up, my MS office package starts up (MS Word, Excel, PP) and also my Pages software. How do I stop this from happening. We operater OSx Lion...

First check your login items under your user account and make sure that they are not selected to load. Then make sure that when you restart or shutdown that you don't have the "reopen windows..." checkbox ticked.

  • Using MS Office Products

Every time I launch an Office product, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, I get "Optimizing Font Menu Performance...". I do design work but only have a few fonts available at any one time. This is annoying because it can take up to a minute for one of these apps to load (on new Macs). Is there any way to disable this optimizing on start up of Office products?

Office 2004 doesn't do that on my Macs.

  • How can I organize my Microsoft Office products on my dock?

    Hello,
Does anyone know how to organize Microsoft Office products (Word, PPT, Excel) into a single fan on right side of dock? Or do the 3 Office products have to take up 3 spots on the dock?
    Thank you for any help!

Drag the Microsoft Office folder to that part of the Dock. Or create a new folder (anywhere you like), put alises to those three programs in that folder, then drag that folder to the Dock.
    Regards.

  • MS Office Products Shut Down after Installation of SP1

I initially could not install SP1 until I completely uninstalled my anti virus software.  I run Vista Home Premium on a DELL XPS M1530.  I have a cable connection though Charter and they provide a no charge subscription to their "Charter Security Suite" by F-Secure.  All 4 of the computers run the same security software and this was the first time I encountered a problem of this nature.
After SP1 installed, I downloaded and re-installed Charter Security Suite.  From that point on, I had problems with all of the MS office products, Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.  After closing any of these programs, I would get the following error messages:
    a.       “Windows Office Word [or Excel or PP or Access] has stopped working.  Windows is checking for a solution”
    b.      “Windows is attempting to recover your information”
    c.       “Windows is restarting”
    d.      “Windows Office Word [or Excel or PP or Access] has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”
With the help of a Microsoft Technician, I shut down all Services and Start Up items in MSCONFIG.  The problem disappeared.  Only after restarting the Charter Security Suite by F-Secure did the problem reoccur.  I uninstalled the security suite again and now all MS Office programs run smoothly.
Now all I have to find is a good replacement security software package to replace the F-Secure.
By the way, the people at Charter could care less about the problem.  They even told me to google free security software and install whatever I wanted.  I thanked them and hung up.

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used.  Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash.  If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first.  Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control.  Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

I had Cs2 and Office for Mac 2004 installed on an OS 10.6.3 system. Worked fine. This weekend my computer did an auto update to OS 10.6.8 and now I cannot save or print from any office or CS2 Apps. What happened. Office also freezes and I have to force quit. Any advise. System or Software problem?

Bad timing.  Reapply the security update:

What happened is that version 1.0 of the security update was available for a bit of time this weekend, and that disabled Rosetta.  Version 1.1 brought it back.

  • Adobe products for sale in Mac App store?

Will Adobe products (like Adobe Creative Suite) be available to purchase in the Mac App Store? How are purchases made? Can you use Itunes credit?

Chances are the appearance of non-appearance of any app in the App Store is for more complex reasons than app size. In fact you can be sure it is not about app size, because I went over to the Adobe Store to check and sure enough, they give you the option of buying the 11GB Master Collection via the download option, leaving it up to you to decide whether your connection is fast enough to finish the download before the Second Coming.
Although I have no tech knowledge about this, I think the real issue with the Mac App Store has to do with whether the app can yet be installed using the App Store mechanism. It makes you install and update apps in one specific way. Which may not fit all, at least not yet. One thing in common with many of the apps not yet available at the App Store is that they have complex installers, and not just Adobe.
Look at it this way: If it was that easy to put complex apps and suites in the App Store, Apple themselves would be selling their entire product line, from bottom to top, in the App Store. They are not. Apple is, in fact, not even close to having all of their own apps in the App Store at this time.
The answer for when Adobe's would show up is probably the same as for when Microsoft's show up and also Apple Final Cut Studio and the Logic line. It's gonna be whenever those unknown (to us) technical roadblocks are resolved. For now, those apps are missing in action, including Apple's. You can't even get Final Cut Express or iDVD in the App Store.

  • I have received a $100 Mac app store gift card, can I use it on the Apple Store website to buy other products?

I recieved a $100 Mac App Store gift card with the Back to School promo, and I was wondering if I could use it on the Apple Store website to buy another product.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
The gift card is restricted to use in the Mac App Store and the iTunes Stores. It will not buy Apple hardware on the Apple Store website.

  • Serial Numbers for products purchased in Mac App Store

How do I find the serial number for my Adobe product that I purchased from the Mac App store? I've reviewed the FAQ, help, and forums, but can't find an answer specific to products purchased from Mac App store. I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Editor. I want to register it with Adobe but I need the serial number. It is nowhere to be found.
    Thx!

Hi. Soooo, I did contact them, because the first Adobe customer service person I chatted with told me to contact them. I sent a message to Apple support and told them that I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 from the Mac App Store, aaaaaand they told me to contact Adobe. I'm going in circles!
Apple support said that the only thing I could do was "redownload the program" and "see if it asks me for the serial number" this time. They had no idea where to tell me to look for the serial number. Incidentally, there's technically no "download" option when you purchase from the Mac App store. After you click "buy," the option that displays is simply "install." So you click on that and the program installs. When it's finished, you can launch the program and, when you do, it just opens like normal. There is no prompt to register the product or enter the serial number. But I want to register my product with Adobe.com so I can be sure to get updates on it.
Incidentally, I also already checked out the links you provided (which I did indicate in my original message). There is nothing there that gives any guidance whatsoever on where to find the serial number for a product purchased from the Mac App store. The closest option is the "store download" option, but those guidelines tell you to enter the redemption code. I was never given a redemption code. I simply clicked "buy" and then "install" and - poof! - the program was loaded on to my MacBook Pro.
Surely i am not the only person who has ever purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Editor from the Mac App store. There HAS to be someone who knows what to do here.
    Thanks!

  • While upgrading Mac App Store Kindle I get the 'The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.' message. How to fix it?

While upgrading Kindle from Mac App Store I get the message 'The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.' How can I fix it?

Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go then move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading Mountain Lion.
