Mac App Store criteria question
In regards to the requirements for submitting an App to be considered in the app store, does that app have to be developed using Apples dev tools, or are apps developed using third-party tools/frameworks acceptable?
Specifically, I have an app that I have written using a third party toolkit. It compiles to a self-contained, universal, cocoa application that will run on any 10.5+ machine with just a drag-and-drop install process (so no third-party installer, just stick the Application wherever you want it). I could easy use package maker to make an "official" installer if that was required. Is there at least a possibility that this app could be accepted into the Mac App Store? Or would the third party toolkit disqualify it?
Obviously no one here can tell me if the app would actually be accepted, I just don't want to pay the $100 necessary to even try if there is no chance at all of being accepted without a complete re-write. Thanks.
Israel,
The is the correct forum. You are right about the "other" developer forums. However, you get more goodies for your $99 than just the forums.

There are some very specific requirements to consider. However, if your application compiles to a self-contained, Intel, cocoa application that runs on 10.6.6, then you should be able to distribute it through the Mac App Store.
You can include all the 3rd party libraries, frameworks, and tools you want, as long as they reside inside your application bundle and you comply with their licensing. Your application cannot depend on any other 3rd party software. You can distribute a 32 and 64 bit intel application, but no PowerPC. The Mac App Store only runs on 10.6.6 anyway, so that precludes PowerPC. If you target only 64-bit, you can use the Modern runtime too.
One interesting restriction is that you can't include any metadata from other operating systems. So if this is a cross platform application, you have to purge anything from the bundle that doesn't apply to MacOS X.
In short - pony up your $99

HT4710 Updates for iPhoto and iMovie in the Mac App Store
Hi,
I recently bought a new computer running Lion. When I started using the computer, I opened the Mac App Store and signed in with my Apple ID (the same one I've always used for buying apps from there, music from the iTunes store, and apps for my iPhone). I am able to easily access and download my old purchased apps to my new computer without a problem. However, in the updates section it shows updates available for both iPhoto and iMovie, but when I go to update them I get this message, "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it." iPhoto and iMovie came on the new computer, and the only Apple ID account that I have ever used is the one that I am currently signed in under. Does anyone have any idea how I can get these updates, or at the very minimum, get rid of them so that they do not show up anymore (frankly, I find the red circle very annoying, and I don't really use either of these apps so I'm not too concerned about them).
Thanks!
Sorry, I found a few other questions about this same thing after posting, so I'll try those solutions.Open iTunes on the new Mac, sign into your account and view your account information. There is a section for Purchase History where you can view the invoices for everything that you have ever bought from the iTunes stores and the Mac App Store.

How do I download Mac App Store to my MacBook Pro. Somehow, it was deleted
Somehow, Mac App Store has been deleted from my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X version 10.6.8)
How do I download this back to my MacBook Pro?Yes it is. I have a Mac Book Pro and trying to open Mac App Store. It won't open and isn't even listed under my applications. Apparently, I deleted it some time ago by mistake. I'm trying to somehow download the app for it again. I can't seem to find the app to even download it. Can you help? I'm sorry if I caused you trouble, or if my question wasn't clear.

How can I download lion from Mac app store in recovery mode on an imac?
I bought a mid-2007 imac from a friend, who the computer was working perfectly for. When I went to start up it wouldn't start up (past the gray screen) from the regular HD no matter how many tricks I tried (resetting SMC, PRAM, etc), so I went in to recovery mode. I verified and repaired the disc more than once (even though it said it was fine), and tried to reinstall lion from the online recovery function but it said "item temporarily unavailable." I basically tried every combo of things possible before erasing the HD but nothing worked, so then I decided to erase the HD.
SO that happened, and now I can still boot up in recovery mode and it -seems- like if I can find a way to reinstall lion (which was the last os running), I may be back in business.
however, see the problem with "item temporarily unavailable."
I decided to purchase it from the Mac store online on a different device and it says it will email me a link in 1-3 business days (really??! That long to save me with an EMAIL LINK???), and my thought is that maybe I can log in to my email from the safari window and download it that way. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to access the Mac app store if that is where it downloads from.
Ultimately, I'm trying to avoid a trip to the Apple Store because this thing will be a nightmare to lug on public transportation. My questions for you are as follows:
- how likely do you think it is that I'll be able to successfully download lion from the email link in recovery mode?
- Do actual discs with lion exist anywhere in the wide world? If so, how can I get one?
- would it be worth it to grab an old lion usb stick from amazon?
- is there ANY other way to reinstall lion or install a new os on this thing without physically taking the computer anywhere? What a silly company , i have the same exact problem with my macbook pro and i've checked every topic that mention this problem and they didn't solve it .

How can I get a refund for a Mac App Store game?
I bought Farming Simulator 2011 and now when I click on my save file it shuts down. I have already contacted GIANTS SOFTWARE but said to come here.
Mac App Store: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4461
What is the Mac App Store refund policy?
If you experience a technical issue with an app, first contact the developer of the app for assistance. Their support contact information can be found on the app's page in the Mac App Store. If that does not resolve the issue, contact Mac App Store Customer Support.

Hello,
I was wondering if someone knows what this error message in the Mac App Store means. I am trying to run Software Update by clicking in the Apple Menu however, I am not able to see my available updates and instead get the following message on the Mac App Store:
I have tried to fix the error by deleting both the Mac App Store Caches and plist files in the user library and made sure that I am properly logged into the Mac App Store with my personal Apple ID.
What else can I do?aayushp wrote:
I've been having the same issue. It was all fine until yesterday when I was searching for updates.
Since when have you been seeing this error message?
Last time I checked for an update was about 2 weeks ago and there were no errors reported. However, today I wanted to update iTunes to version 10.7 and decided to use the standalone installer rather than the SU version. Still, I decided to run the MAS Software Update function in order to ensure that my computer had all its software up-to-date and then I get this message. I don't think that me installing iTunes is to blame. Probably, it could be an internet connection problem on Apple's end I am still submitting a bug report to Apple.
Now one question, who is your ISP (internet service provider)? In my case I have Comcast and I am in Florida.
Thanks for your reply! -
Your computer could not be verified Mac App Store and FaceTime
Hi All
I've been trying through several forums for a long time to find a solution for my problem before giving up, I'll go down to the point:
I have an iMac Intel 20" early 2008 (I can provide more detailed specs when required). I am using Mac OSX Lion installed from a usb and prior used Snow Leopard. They problem has been consistent thru all versions, same symptoms, same all.
1. Whenever I try to login to Mac App Store I get the famous: "your computer could not be verified, please contact support for assistance". FaceTime also does not login, promptying a "server error, try later".
2. Contacted support, and after 16 emails back and forth all I was told at the end was: "I am able to log in into your mac app store account from this side after resetting your account,is there anything I can do for you today".... (!!!!????)
3. There has been a problem parallel to that, and although I am not sure they are related anyhow I need to point it out. My ethernet port stopped working and there is no way to create any connection through it. I can still use wireless quite well (reason why I still keep my machine). After sending the machine to repairs, diagnose was that it could be a problem on the logic board and to fix it may require to replace LB entirely. So I decided not to go for it and keep the machine only with wireless connection.
So I have tried every single solution found (so far...) on google and forums to no avail: a) deleting .plist, b) resetting network configs and creating new locations, c) resetting PRAMs (not sure if it solve anything, but tried anyway) and others. The problem still persists with the same symptoms.
I can login into iTunes store and buy applications from computer, iPhone and iPad, which makes me think that my credentials are valid, alas, I logged into this forum using them.
I also tried creating a new account at App Store, when I request it through the Application, the "little fan that advises you to wait" appears, but suddenly dissapear with no warning or message at all (!!!!????). It is like you never requested anything in first place.
Obviously I can still use my machine for internet and stuff, but my ability to purchase/use any Apple software is seriously restricted. I cannot purchase any software anymore if AppStore is going to be the main way to acquire it (which I think it will).
So, my big questions are:
1) Is this hardware problem (ethernet, logic board, connection ports) remotely related to the machine authentication process when using MacApp Store and FaceTime through Apple?
2) Is there a way to fix this through software, before I consider replacing the machine? (Please take into account that I have already tried TS1811, deleting .plist files, resetting network, creating new locations from scratch... I basically searched thoroughly on google, forums and tips and tried all reasonable found recommendations before posting).
Thanks in advance. Thanks Livia and Huevoos (eggs??) for your interest in this post.
In a nutshell, I haven't been able to solve this. I gave up on Apple support after they proved useless.
As Huevoos suggested, and I confirmed it time and again after browsing thru endless forums, it seems that the user validation routine for the Mac App Store is done by looking into your network settings, which in my case are either incomplete or erroneous due to the broken-down ethernet. (I am still waiting for somebody more experienced in this forum to contradict or explain this).
So, because I still have wireless connection, I can use my machine for day-to-day chores, have not been able to purchase anything up to this date in the Mac App Store though. I'm waiting for either a software update that could correct this (Mountain Lion??? there's no guarantee only hope) or the moment when my machine will need to be replaced by a new one with a functional ethernet.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help. But I'm pretty much in the same situation as you guys.
Live long and prosper.

New Printer Drivers won't load in Mac App Store
Hi!
I've recently update my mid-2014 rMBP to the Final release of Yosemite, up from the Yosemite Public Beta 6. I've been able, during the beta phase to add my home printer (an HP OfficeJet 4500) after (or before?) the Mac App Store had downloaded the required HP drivers (3.3.1).
Now, however, I'm trying to add an HP LaserJet 1200 series (whose drivers are in the official list). I've tried several times, asked the MAS to check for new updates a thousand times but still it won't download any new printer drivers.
When adding the printer and selecting the driver from the list of drivers bundled with OS X, I could see various printers (with a large number of HP printers who use the aforementioned 3.0 drivers which have been downloaded already), but no HP LaserJet 1200. I don't have them because they're not the same as the 3.0 ones. On my sister's 2010 MBP, which didn't go through the beta testing phase, I found what seems to be all the drivers from the list (at least there was the one for the 1200 Series).
So my question is, how do I somehow "trigger" the MAS to download the required drivers (19.8) ? Is anyone else having troubles installing printer drivers?Thank you for your quick reply! I've deleted the hp folder (and moved the PPD relating to the printer which is already installed, the OfficeJet, just to see if it would help) and had the MAS check for new updates. No success yet, though.
However there's a slight misunderstanding regarding which drivers I'm trying to install : I already have the 3.3.1 drivers (for the OfficeJet) but the drivers which won't download are the 19.8 for the LaserJet printer. are these separately downloadable too? -
Buying in the Mac App Store for the enterprise
We're looking to buy an app in the Mac App Store (iBarcoder) for our graphic designers using Macs, and after read this article on Macworld.com, we're not too sure how to go about it.
Does that mean I could buy one copy of an app and install it on every Mac in my business?
No, the license you agree to when you enter the Mac App Store says that app downloads are for Macs that you personally own, and that's a license for personal use. Apps that are intended for professional use are licensed for you or for a single computer used by several people. While there's no technical impediment to you installing them on multiple Macs at work, you'll be violating the license agreement. It's the same scenario as if you buy a single-user copy of iWork and install it on ten Macs at work—you can do it, but you're violating the license agreement, making the act ethically questionable.
We know about the volume licensing that Apple offers, but it seems as though it's only for education and not for the enterprise. Surely creating a new Apple ID for every Mac isn't the best way to do this, right?
Thanks!Ask Apple;

How do I install camera raw updates to the mac app store version of elements 10
In the mac app store version of Elements 10 there is 'get updates' link on the help menu. And when I try to do it manually from a download I get a message telling me that 'this update no applicable'.
Once again, Apple only provides support for purchasing issues, not with using software purchased via the app store, any more than staples will give you tech support for a boxed version you buy from them:
The Mac App Store handles the download, installation, licensing, and updating of all products purchased through it. If you encounter an issue with an Adobe product during one of these four processes, visit http://www.apple.com/support.
For all other issues, including program errors and how to questions, visithttp://www.adobe.com/support.
Apple only provides support for problems with updates released via the app store and adobe has NEVER bothered to issue updates anything offered through the app store, so you can't get any help from apple for this.
It's more complicated to install ACR in the app store version. You have to do it manually. See this thread:

This is a new machine running on Mavericks bought last year since my old Mac had a hard-drive failure. Installed Pages (part of iWork '09 package), updated to Pages 5.0 from the Mac App Store and no issues. However, now I need to use some of the old Pages template (San Fancisco Letter to be specific) and the new Pages dosn't have that.
So I had to extract the San Fancisco template from Pages '09 and tried installing under 'My Template' on Pages 5.3. But evertime I'm getting an error while installing. That's when I realised after going through the discussions here, that I can't install a Pages '09 template on Pages 5.3.
So my question is how to use a Pages 4.0 template on Pages 5.3? Is it possible to install Pages 4.3 while Pages 5.2 is still installed? Is there a workaround?
Note: I don't need Pages 4.3 but would like to use some of the templates from there, working on Pages 5.2.
Thanks in advance - SidDue to the huge number of missing features in v5.2 that were functional in Pages ’09 v4.3, many of the older version templates expect features/functionality that simply do not exist in v5.2. You should realize that Pages v5 is a brand new application/design, and not a progressive version enhancement to Pages ’09.
When you updated to Pages v5, that process automatically moved Pages ’09 v4.3 into /Applications/iWork '09. You can continue to use the older Pages (and associated custom templates) on Mavericks.
I would resist removing Pages ’09 from your machine, as it is functionally superior to Pages v5.
Templates that you save with Pages ’09 v4.3 are kept in ~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates
Templates that you save with Pages v5+ are kept in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iWork.Pages/Data/Library/Application Support/User Templates
One of the things that I noticed about the original Pages v5 installation is that it transferred a small subset of My Templates from Pages ’09 into the above User Templates location. These were relative simple templates. The complicated ones did not migrate.
Be certain to make a backup copy of any Pages ’09 template document. Once you open it in Pages v5+, it can no longer be opened in the older Pages application. Providing the template is compatible with Pages v5+, perform a File > Save as Template... to the default location. -

This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -
Logging in to Mac App Store on different Mac to install Lion?
Hey there folks, I hope this question isn't too confusing. I also hope it's not against any forum policies. I have two MacBook Pros and one of them is currently used by my mother. I gave it to her as a gift and upon giving it to her, I signed her in to her own Apple ID for the Mac App Store so she can buy her own apps. My question is- Could I log in to the Mac App Store with my ID for the purpose of installing Lion on her Mac, but then log her back under her own account? And if I do this, will it screw up Lion? Thanks in advance for any help!
Short answer: Nope.
The user agreement allows you to install the software on as many devices as you like <provided> they are all using the sam Apple ID. If you were to login to your own account in order to redownload Lion onto your mother's computer, you'd have a problem logging her back into her own ID. She'd lose access to apps and her iTunes-purchased content. -
Following my purchase of an iPad mini with retina display, I received complimentary copies of Numbers and Pages on iOS. When I launch the Mac App Store on my mac, these 2 apps appear under the Top Free apps on the right hand side of the screen. When I select either however, a price of £13.99 is displayed. My question is, are these free or not? I did download iPhoto for Mac shortly after my iPad mini purchase assuming that it would be free. My iTunes account was charged in full for the download and yet when I queried this I received a full refund. I'm confused! I do hope that someone can clarify this for me.
Thanks in advance.Apps for the iPad don't run on a Mac and apps for a Mac don't run on an iPad. Even the apps from Apple with the same names have been developed for the two different platforms.
iLife apps; iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand have come free on Macs for years. The iLife apps have been paid apps on iOS devices; iPhones, iPads and iPods Touch.
The iWork apps; Pages, Numbers and Keynote are usually paid apps, but they are free with the purchase of a new Mac bought since 1 OCT 2013. The Mavericks versions of the iWork apps are also free if the prior '09 version of the apps were on your Mac when you upgraded to OS X Mavericks 10.9.
The iWork apps for iOS devices are also paid apps, but they are free with the purchase of a new iOS device bought since 1 SEP 2013.
