Mac App Store hanges
I installed 10.6.6 and the App store hanges I am unable to perches apps. I am loged in on my account but when I hit the buy button I get the spinning colored wheel and that's it. I have to force quit App store to get out. I have a early 09 MacBook Pro.
Any suggestions? I did uninstall and reinstall the App store but still the same problem.

Install the v10.6.6 Combo Updae
Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.

My 10.8.3 update did not install properly citing an 'Unknown Error'. Now, my Mail and Mac App Store aren't working. What went wrong and how do i fix it ?
I tried this and still have the same problems. If I open Address book or the Mac App Store I get the library rebuild popup and a hang. I created a fresh user and then things are better apart from the printing issue. Its clearly some 3rd party software issue but the crash logs are meningless to me. I used the excellent Etre check app from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck so I have a list of what is being loaded and can compare clean and crashed user info but as I cant work out which of the startup items, launch agents, launch daemons etc that are causing the problem.
I have eliminated Dropbox, Mac Keeper and Witness, and it isnt related to my exterrnal LED cinema dispay or my external thunderbolt drives, or any USB devices if thats any help to anyone else. Info from Etrecheck follows -

When loading, it simply hangs for 3 minutes then crashes. Can't get past the loading screen.

App Store hangs (not responding)
I am trying to use the App Store to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Mountain Lion (10.8). When I open the App Store and sign in using my Apple ID, I can click on the "OS X Mountain Lion" link. This shows a new page with a button that says $19.99. When I click that button, the button changes to "Buy App". When I click the Buy App button, the App Store hangs with the spinning ball icon after about 20 seconds. I left it alone for over 2 hours, and it remained hung. I have searched user forums and tried a few things. Nothing has worked. Here are some things I have tried, with no success.
+ turned off Spotlight (some forums mentioned that was an issue)
+ unplugged my external USB drive for Time Machine backups
+ re-booted into safe mode
+ removed all directories inside /var/folders
+ removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
+ removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
+ removed ~/Library/Application\ Support/AppStore
+ removed ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
+ removed ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
+ removed ~/Library/Caches/storeagent
I asked Apple support, and they said, "You must upgrade to Lion first, then Mountain Lion, but unfortunately Lion is not available for download. Please visit your local Apple store for help." So, I drove out to the nearest Apple store. The assistant there told me it is NOT necessary to upgrade to Lion first. They asked me to bring my iMac into the store to have a look.. what a hassle. So I replied back to Apple support, who then asked me to call their support number. I called, then hung up when they said "this call will cost you $20".
Anyone out there smart enough to solve this puzzle?No, there is no direct download link. Those are days of the past, I'm afraid. You may need to reinstall Mavericks.
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

I notice since last update that the app store hangs forever and the rainbow circle stay on and then it crashes.

It includes "Address various minor Mac App Store bugs" *that may help that were not included in the original v10.6.7 update.*

Mac app store keeps crashing on OSX 10.6.8
I can open and browse the Mac App store on my MBP but as soon as I try to download any apps the App Store hangs and I have to use Force Quit to shut it down. I have tried all the suggestions I have read elsewhere including deleting all the plist files from the library, repairing permissions, starting in safe mode, deleting the app store app and copying it across from my iMac where it runs perfectly but without success.
Any help much appreciated.

Unable to download Mac App Store
I downloaded it once, but then my Mac started hanging so I trashed it. Now when I click software update, it says my software is up to date. Is there another way to download Mac App Store...is it even worth it to try? It seems a lot of people are having problems with it.

Re-install Lion, reinstall 10.6.8 combo, error running Mac App Store
I need to re-download and install Lion. To do so I need to get to the App Store.
To get to the App Store I need the App Store installer for Mac OS X 10.6.8, the
latest Snow Leopard.
I cannot go to the Mac App Store because the App Store program I have is for
Lion, not Snow Leopard. I moved the Lion App Store application out of the
Applications folder and deleted it and ran Software Update, SU says I'm up
to date. So I download the OS X 10.6.8 Combo update.
I try to run that Mac App Store application and got a memory dump looking
dialog that says I had an unknown error and it may be because the version of the Mac App Store
I tried to run is for the wrong version of OSX. This the error I got when I ran the Lion version
of the Mac App Store application resulting in my deleting it back before I installed the Combo update for 10.6.8.
Perhaps I missed deleting another component still hanging around from Lion?
Any ideas of what to try next?I was on the delevoper's list for LIon and have now had to put a new hard drive in and want to reinstall Lion on my new hard drive but when I go to App store and sign in, under purchases it says I have not purchased anything.
Any ideas as to how to get back to Lion?

I have a mac mini since August and this is the first time I faced an issue.
Every time i try to download an app from the mac app store, the app store quits unexpectedly.
I do not have any problems navigating the store. It only crashes when I try to download something.
I have downloaded apps before without any problems.

Mac Pro, 10.6.8, unmounted every volume, blown away all of the App Preferences and caches in ~/Library, have rebooted (!!!!), tried the OCSP fixes, etc., and still no dice. When I click on the Upgrade or Buy buttons in the App Store, the program spins and becomes unresponsive. But! it looks like the reason many of us are having this problem is because we all disabled Spot Light. If you re-enable Spot Light, you can begin to download Lion or click Updates in the App Store. Hurray for our side, but **** it... Spot Light is/was slow. Sad fix, but at least things work again.
10.6.8 here, same issue although I had not disabled spotlight. However, it had been trying to estimate indexing time for the better part of the last 2 or 3 days with the mds process hogging most of a processor core.
solution:
disable indexing on system drive — sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/SYSTEM_VOLUME_NAME
if the command hangs, find out the pid for mds — sudo kill -9 MDS_PID
to find out the pid run — top — once it is running type o then -cpu and press return — the mds process should be in the list beside its pid number

Can i share freeware from the mac app store?
I have a friend who can't access the mac app store (it just hangs). He's asked me if I can download an app for him (the app is free for a limited time). Is this against T&C's and is it even technically possible (i.e. would it even open on his mac, would it be tied to my account)?
If you download it, it will be tied to your account. You would have to give him your AppleID and password--not a good idea.
As I read the agreement, you can only install on computers you own/control--even if it is free. -

I have a problem with my mac apps store. after updating it to OS X 10.9.3 (Mavericks) when i restarted it and open it up again the mac apps store keeps on hanging and i can't see anything. I cannot update any of my application because i cannot access the store. Please help me. My computer is Mac mini 2.3GHz quad-core intel core i7
Launch Activity Monitor in /Utilities, select all processes, check for app store ones, select them, and force quit them.

Hi, i have a macbook pro and the mac app store is telling me i have a update for angry birds but i dont actually have angry birds installed, when i click update it doesnt really do anything but hang for a while then it pops up telling me that theres some sort of error. I cant seem to get rid of it and i dont know why its appeared. i've tried loging out and back in again in the app store but that doesnt work either. Please any help would be nice??

Not accusing, you understand, but this does sometimes occurs when people have accidentally downloaded Angry Birds from a pirate site. App store picks up its presence but not its detail.
Another thing to do would be to type Angry Birds into the search box (top right) and read some of the many similar and previous questions. -
Old inaccessible Apple ID stuck in Mac App Store
I have a hand-me-down Macbook Pro from my uncle, who used the computer before me himself. He has his own Apple ID and i have my own as well. My uncle had his ID used on the computer for Final Cut Pro X and Angry Birds, among other apps. I deleted all of the content that was based on his account from the computer when he gave it to me other than Final Cut Pro X. However for a long time now Angry Birds has been a part of his account and still shows up in my Mac App Store. For as long as I can remember, that little red badge with the 1 on it has been hanging on the Mac App Store logo for Angry Birds. It's a really long story, but the point is the email and the ID itself are as far as I know, inaccessible, the Apple ID is disabled with no hope of retreival, and that godforsaken Angry Birds 2.1.0 update is stuck there forever. I've tried deleting the Mac App Store's plists with the following commands in Terminal:
rm -r ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
rm -r ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
rm ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
I've tried uninstalling the Mac App Store, which lead to me having to reinstall all of Mac OS X, I've tried deleting the only app from that account I have, Final Cut Pro X, and every possible combination of the above mentioned, but no matter what, Mac App Store still thinks I need to update Angry Birds. Please, someone, anyone, help me. I've never hated Angry Birds, Mac App Store or that red update badge more in my life.Is it really your uncle's Apple ID that is appearing with the update, or is it a stranger's Apple ID appearing?
If it is a stranger's ID, then you have a pirated app.
