Mac App Store, Lion, Remote Desktop

Just installed Lion. Minimal problems. One is that I can't use the Mac App Store. The application runs, but I can't sign in, or (obviously) do anything that requires signing in. Just get "Connection failed." Similar problem with iTunes Store. No idea. Another, very similar, machine on the same LAN, running 10.6.8, has no trouble sigining in with the same credentials, so it's not my account.
But that's not my question: I want to buy Apple Remote Desktop from the app store. But I want to run it on the Lion machine, not the Snow Leopard machine. So the question is, can I buy it on one machine and install it on another? Does it use an installer, or can I just drag the application file from one machine to the other? Any idea if this will work, or will it be a bigger pain than it's worth.
Were it not for the $80 price tag, I'd just try it and find out. But I'm a little leery under the circumstances.

Purchases made through the App Store both download and install via the App Store application, not via a stand-alone installer that is downloaded to your computer and you run it.
There is nothing preventing you from copying the installed application to another computer, but there is no guarantee it will work.  At a minimum, you could be asked for your Apple ID and password to verify a legal purchase, which wouldn't be a problem in your case.  But, if the app you copy requires files that reside outside the Applications folder, and you don't copy them all, your app may not work as expected, or at all.
In short, sure, you could try it, and it might work just fine, but if it doesn't, you'll need to identify the source of your App Store connection problem to install the software properly.

  • Any way to install Mac App Store Lion release to partition?

Not sure if this violates any NDAs or whatever.. was just curious if anybody knows if there is / will be a way (once Lion is released) to install it to a partition.
I'm going to need to test my work software to ensure it is compatible, before I upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

Google making DVDs, thumb drives and SD cards with the Installer. Then you are reading outside the ASCs where other folks having defied their NDAs!

  • Getting the Mac App Store. Help

So i have a MacBook Pro and its running 10.5.8. Im trying to upgrade to Lion and i seem to have an isue because i can't download the Mac app store to get it because you need to have had Snow Lepoard now on the apple website it tells you to check out "Snow Leapord" but redirects you to the Lion page.
So my question is how am i suppose to get Lion without being able to get the App Store. Because Appple is tryiing to be Enviromentally friendly with the App store. I don't want to have to buy Snow Leapord and then get Lion. It would simply make no sense for me to do so.
So you see my dilema here can anyone help me.
    Thanks again.

You must install Snow Leopard in order to have the Mac App Store installed so you can download and install Lion.

  • Mac App Store cannot update itunes, OS and remote desktop; keep saying it is updated and yet ask it ask you to update as in fact it is not updated

I search my problem on web and got no solution.
    1) mac app store shows some updates needed. e.g. itunes, remote desktop.
    2) I clicked "update", and it changes to "installed" within seconds and then shows I have installed the update.
    3) But the problem is that the software is NOT updated and the "installed icon" changes back to "update" immediately.
    4) the picture below shows what happened.
    5) As you can see, the remote desktop is updated twice on Mar 3 and is version 3.8.2 v1.1 but the mac app store prompt me to update it.
    6) I cannot update the new version of MAC OS too.
    Solution:
    1) Restart app or OS. >> Failed.
    2) Rebuild spotlight >> Failed.
    3) Genius bar >> No hope as the Genius bar is fully booked all the time (rumors that people are selling the timeslots, guess where am I?).
Can any one help me on that.
    Thanks a lot.

I tried the debug mode in mac app store too >> Fail.
The first time I feel disapointing from apple software.

  • Why is the Mac App Store loading the wrong Apple ID when I try to redownload my copy of Lion?

    Pretext:
I purchased my MacBook Pro 17" Back in March of 2011 from MicroCenter in Madison Heights, MI. Later I purchase OS X Lion 10.7 from the Mac App Store on July 23rd, 2011 under my Account along with a couple of other programs. I know it is under my account because, I have redownloaded the OS X Lion Installer twice before (10.7.1 and 10.7.2), making my own bootable copies on USB drives as emergency copies.
Now my Apple ID has never changed, the password is still the same as when I set it up back when I signed up for my iTunes Music Store account, the only thing changed is my payment options (reissued debit cards, and a bank switch). The account has always been mine alone, never part of any family account or anything of the sort. Outside of that, nothing has ever been editted on my accounts.
Last month my father decides to finally update from his 2002 Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver) to a new MacBook Pro a month ago. I show him how to make a bootable USB stick so he can always have an immediate backup installer. Both him and I are on AT&T which likes to cap bandwidth so remote installs are an insane proposition. He makes his own bootable USB stick of 10.7.3., and in an effort to save bandwidth I borrow it and make a duplicate.
Now I did boot from the copy of the USB stick, but never installed, I just wanted to make sure it loaded just in case. Anyway, I quit of out the installer return to my usual start up disk (OCZ Vertex 3 120GB) and continue on. Eventually I download the 10.7.3 update through the System Update. All is well and fine. Couple weeks later, I decide to make another fully bootable USB stick, go to redownload from the App Store (new AT&T billing cycle) and now it is asking me for my father’s Apple ID and Password. It refuses to take my Apple ID and password and tells me there is an error and tells me to try again shortly.
So I turn on the Mac App Store Debug Menu, clear cookies, and reset the app. I try to redownload again, but his Apple ID is still on my machine. He has never used this machine, not once. How do I fix this?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Downloading Mountain Lion from The Mac App Store.

I'm currently downloading Mountain Lion for my Imac from the Mac App Store. If I put my computer to sleep, the download stops, can I put my Desktop to sleep or will the download still stop?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can pause the download as many times as you need. The download will resume when you wake up the iMac

  • Why does Mac App Store log me out in the middle of a download of Lion and "resume" won't work?

I have previously purchased a copy of OS Lion and have been loading it onto each of three Macs in our home network.  This worked fine for an iMac G7 and iMac G5, but is failing for a White Macbook (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8).  Other apps have been successfully downloaded on the Macbook, so the problem seems to be only associated with Lion (which is a 3-4hr dowload).
When I log onto my Mac App Store account and select "Purchases", my prior purchase of Lion is there as it should be.  I then select "Install" and it starts to download as expected.  Then about 10 minutes into the download, it pops-up that it is going to log out and offers me the option to click "cancel" (within so many seconds) to elect not to log out.  If I select "cancel", it continues to download normally until about an hour later when the same thing occurs, and so on.  If I do not select "cencel", then it logs out and when I log back in "Resume" doesn't work in App Store.  It shows that zero GB have been downloaded when at least 1GB have already been downloaded.
So, unless I sit there vigilantly watching the download for 4 hours to select "cancel" whenever it pops up. I just can't download the software this way.  With a capped data plan, this has the potential to be very expensive.
Btw, I have tried the simple thing of switching from a WIFI connection to cable, but this had no impact on the problem.
    Can anyone help?

but is failing for a White Macbook (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8)
Launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

  • I bought a MBPro which came with Lion installed,i also wanted to have a copy of installation disc so i used mac app store.Normally if an app is already bought there is a warning or a sign that informs the buyer.I've charged for this download is it normal?

Hi ,i bought a MacBookPro which came with Lion installed on it (i have registered my mac book pro right after i bought it), i also wanted to have a copy of the installation disc in case of a crash, so i used mac app store to get it.Normally if an app is already bought (for iphone app store) there is a warning or a sign that informs the buyer, than the app store lets the buyer to re-download/re-install the app.I've charged for this download afterwards, because i was using virtual credit card, there was not enough money transferred to that card during that download but the app store let me download it anyway. I haven't charged before the download, the app store first let me to download it then it requested that amount of money for next download wich it was a free app. Can anybody enlight me? thanks

    Hi ...
i also wanted to have a copy of the installation disc in case of a crash
If you have problems with your Mac you use Lion Recovery
However, you can create your own installation disc >  How to create an OS X Lion installation disc | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews
Since Lion came pre installed on your Mac, the App Store doesn't not recognize that as a purchase so you if you want to re download Lion to create a boot disk you will have to pay for it. You can then re download Lion on all your authorized Macs for free.

  • How can I download lion from Mac app store in recovery mode on an imac?

I bought a mid-2007 imac from a friend, who the computer was working perfectly for. When I went to start up it wouldn't start up (past the gray screen) from the regular HD no matter how many tricks I tried (resetting SMC, PRAM, etc), so I went in to recovery mode. I verified and repaired the disc more than once (even though it said it was fine), and tried to reinstall lion from the online recovery function but it said "item temporarily unavailable." I basically tried every combo of things possible before erasing the HD but nothing worked, so then I decided to erase the HD.
SO that happened, and now I can still boot up in recovery mode and it -seems- like if I can find a way to reinstall lion (which was the last os running), I may be back in business.
however, see the problem with "item temporarily unavailable."
I decided to purchase it from the Mac store online on a different device and it says it will email me a link in 1-3 business days (really??! That long to save me with an EMAIL LINK???), and my thought is that maybe I can log in to my email from the safari window and download it that way. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to access the Mac app store if that is where it downloads from.
Ultimately, I'm trying to avoid a trip to the Apple Store because this thing will be a nightmare to lug on public transportation. My questions for you are as follows:
    - how likely do you think it is that I'll be able to successfully download lion from the email link in recovery mode?
    - Do actual discs with lion exist anywhere in the wide world? If so, how can I get one?
    - would it be worth it to grab an old lion usb stick from amazon?
    - is there ANY other way to reinstall lion or install a new os on this thing without physically taking the computer anywhere?

What a silly company , i have the same exact problem with my macbook pro and i've checked every topic that mention this problem and they didn't solve it .

  • I reinstalled tiger on one iMac, but want to re-upgragde it to Lion.  I don't have the discs anymore, but I installed Lion from the Mac App Store.  Now that I'm back to 10.4, I don't have the App Store.  I have a new iMac with Mavericks, but it won't let

I have a 2006 iMac that I've upgraded to each new os as they came out.  I just wiped it (for the kids to use, I have a new iMac with Mavericks) and reintalled Tiger from the original discs.  I want to get it back to Lion - which I purchased from the Mac App Store.  But Tiger doesn't have the App Store and I don't have the discs anymore from the intermediate versions.  I tried downloading Lion from the new iMac but it's not available...
    Any ideas?

To get to the App Store, you need to upgrade the Tiger machine to Snow Leopard.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
Snow Leopard Tech Specs  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $29.00 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
