Mac app store on older os?

i have mac os x 10.5.8 and it seems I can't get the mac app store.
is it only for os x 10.6?

Your Mac can easily run OS X 10.6, if you really want the App Store. Click on the "Store" tab at the top of the page or visit any store that sells Mac software. The price is just $29US.

Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago, which I modified on 11/4/13, and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers.  When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed and there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall it.  When I checked "About Numbers" on my MacBook it shows "Numbers '09 version 2.3".  Any suggestions as to how I can get the new version installed?

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

  • Mac App Store updating apps on _other_ drive :-(

A little background first - wanted to not just jump right in in upgrading to Mountain Lion (10.8.0), so I got (same brand) external USB HD, formatted it, installed Mountain Lion on that. (With some assistance from Apple Support...) I have moved most all my apps and documents over to the (external) ML drive (500GB). Also have many apps bought through MAS and installed on the ML-500 external drive. When I want to use ML, I boot up from it; other times, I will boot up with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on the internal drive (320GB) to use a few apps where I haven't had all their docs transmogrified to 10.8-compatible apps. Most of the time now, things have been workable and fine.
In the past couple of days, I have discovered that apparently when I had logged into the MAS to update my ML-compatible apps, the MAS (unbeknown to me) updated the older (10.6.8-compatible) apps I had there, including iWork '08 (which had been updated as far as 10.6.8 updates would take them).
So now, it appears (since version numbers are the same for the Numbers, Pages and Keynote apps between the two OS drives) that I have (non-10.6.8-compatible) apps on the Snow Leopard (internal) drive, that won't run when I start up with 10.6.8. The icons on the 10.6.8 drive for Numbers, Pages, and Keynote (which were inside an iWork '08 folder, inside the Applications folder, on the internal/10.6.8 drive) have the 'not' circle and line across them when I view them running from the Mac OS X 10.6.8 (internal) drive. Haven't checked other MAS-downloaded 10.6-compatible purchased apps, so there may be more 'over-updated' apps...
I know that I have my original iWork '08 DVD (and likely, can go back through my Time Machine backups to try to find my latest versions under 10.6.8) and can re-install (and then install all the updates since then under 10.6.8) to get them back, but I would think  - since OS X install discs check a drive for the system version number before installing - that MAS would be setup to FIRST check what the OS X version for a drive with Pages/Numbers/Keynote/other Apple non-system apps, before installing a version over an app (that renders it useless for that version of OS X).
Even though I can possibly (with much time/updates/re-installs) get my earlier apps back on the internal drive, my concern is - how can I stop MAS from once again 'over-updating' those apps? If the MAS can check and tell me that an app I want to download requires 10.7 or 10.8, it would seem to make equal sense for it to check first whether I have (on different drives) 10.6.8 and 10.8 versions of the same app, and ONLY update the most recent one, NOT all of them.
Makes me wonder if Apple thinks that NO ONE out here is running separate partitions or drives with different operating systems for different app needs. I am very sure that there are specfic-market applications out there that companies, laboratories and others need to get tasks done (and for which there is not yet so far a Lion or Mountain Lion-compatible version), so those people/companies/etc. are likely running different OS partitions or startup drives. So WHY does the MAS not check first? Or more importantly, is there some way to stop/limit the updates so ONLY one drive gets updated?

Hello Dahveed, thank you for your answer but this is not good at all. These are not core applications. For instance i want all my games to be on external Hard drive (for instance X3 is about 8 Gb). For having my home folder on external HD this is not good at all too.
Why i should change my way to work and manage my files just for a logical problem ?
Furthermore, the Mac App Store app detects i have the application already installed even if it is on external HD, so there are only 2 solutions : there is a bug into the mac app store application for managing apps OR this is pretty bad for users to have the apps sequestrated into the home folder.
You can see even iTunes with the music rights management system is able to let you have musics managed by user.
Do you have another solution ?
    Thank you

  • Why can't I access the Mac App Store anymore?

I want to upgrade my Mac Pro but I can no longer access the Mac App Store and don't know why.

Remember that Rosetta is not supported beyond 10.6.8. This means that if you use any PowerPC Apps, they will refuse to work.
    My top six are:
Microsoft Office, including Word, 2004 or older
    Photoshop CS2 or older
    Apple Works 6
    FileMaker Pro 6
    Eudora 6
Quicken 2007 (unless you purchase and install the "Loin Compatible" update)

I am trying to install OS X liam on my Mac. Directions say launch Mac App store, click "redeem; found under quick links. Where is quick links on the Mac App store???

If you're running Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer, click on the App Store icon in the Dock, go to its homepage if needed, and look at the sidebar on the right.
If you're running an older Mac OS X version, it needs to be updated or upgraded first.

  • How can I use Pages 4.3 (from Retail pack) template on Pages 5.2 (from Mac App Store)?

This is a new machine running on Mavericks bought last year since my old Mac had a hard-drive failure. Installed Pages (part of iWork '09 package), updated to Pages 5.0 from the Mac App Store and no issues. However, now I need to use some of the old Pages template (San Fancisco Letter to be specific) and the new Pages dosn't have that.
So I had to extract the San Fancisco template from Pages '09 and tried installing under 'My Template' on Pages 5.3. But evertime I'm getting an error while installing. That's when I realised after going through the discussions here, that I can't install a Pages '09 template on Pages 5.3.
So my question is how to use a Pages 4.0 template on Pages 5.3? Is it possible to install Pages 4.3 while Pages 5.2 is still installed? Is there a workaround?
Note: I don't need Pages 4.3 but would like to use some of the templates from there, working on Pages 5.2.
    Thanks in advance - Sid

Due to the huge number of missing features in v5.2 that were functional in Pages ’09 v4.3, many of the older version templates expect features/functionality that simply do not exist in v5.2. You should realize that Pages v5 is a brand new application/design, and not a progressive version enhancement to Pages ’09.
When you updated to Pages v5, that process automatically moved Pages ’09 v4.3 into /Applications/iWork '09. You can continue to use the older Pages (and associated custom templates) on Mavericks.
I would resist removing Pages ’09 from your machine, as it is functionally superior to Pages v5.
Templates that you save with Pages ’09 v4.3 are kept in ~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates
Templates that you save with Pages v5+ are kept in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iWork.Pages/Data/Library/Application Support/User Templates
One of the things that I noticed about the original Pages v5 installation is that it transferred a small subset of My Templates from Pages ’09 into the above User Templates location. These were relative simple templates. The complicated ones did not migrate.
Be certain to make a backup copy of any Pages ’09 template document. Once you open it in Pages v5+, it can no longer be opened in the older Pages application. Providing the template is compatible with Pages v5+, perform a File > Save as Template... to the default location.

    Hi ChuckN,
I have installed the update at home on an older 27" iMac, a new retina macbook pro 15", an older macbook air  and a recent 21" iMac and on none of them does the redeem by camera option show up.
I would say to our north American friends this is something that has been working for you for a while and has only been announced as available in AU with the latest update for our region this week. Sadly updates don't always work straight up.
I am hopeful there is something I have not turned on but think I may need to wait for another update.

  • Can't open NEF from Nikon 1V1 in PS Elements 10 from Mac App store

I have the PSE 10 in the Mac App store version. NEF files from my Nikon D700 opens fine. The NEF files from my Nikon 1V1 don't.

Well, the thing with the app store version is that apple doesn't let developers set things up to update any way except through the app store (i.e, a whole new version every time, which adobe probably doesn't care to do just to update acr). You will need to update ACR manually. The directions are in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4106477
That's for an older version, but you do it the same way for newer ones. You can just install the plug-in itself, if you don't mind not having the lens profiles, etc.

  • Any Mac App Store apps like CleanMyMac ?

Are there any apps available and downloadable from the Mac App Store which is at least equivalent to CleanMyMac in terms of functions and effectiveness ?

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this sort of stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Use your computer; don't fuss with it.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
The free anti-malware application ClamXav is not crap, and although it’s not routinely needed, it may be useful in some environments, such as a mixed Mac-Windows enterprise network.
    4. Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until sometime in 2011, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most users don't.
    5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Mac notebooks that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
Use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
    6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” “running periodic scripts,” “dumping log files,” “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems. They're not for preventive maintenance.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

  • Am I qualify to join Mountain Lion if I purchased Lion through Mac App Store lately in early July

I purchased the Mac OS X Lion through Mac App Store in early July. Am I qualify to join the Up-to-date program for Mountain Lion? If yes, how is this be done?

No you are only qualified for an update when you bought a mac that doesnt include mountain lion. Buying the older version OS X lion does not fall into that category.
    From apple website :
If you recently bought a new Mac that doesn’t include OS X Mountain Lion, you can upgrade for free from the Mac App Store. You may qualify for the Up-to-Date Program if you bought your Mac from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 11, 2012.

  • HT1772 hi guys i wanted to ask how do you get mac app store on my ibook?

i cannot even access my own wifi from my house i could only see the neighbors but umm i really wanted to get the mac app store i dont have it on my ibook

With a serial number from such a product, you can find more detail about the computer through a site such as this: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php where specifications can help you narrow down that model at the everymac page linked below, based on your iBook SN info.
(And Everymac site does have most information in detail on nearly every Mac, incl. ones that may be harder to place...)
Since that is a white G3 iBook made in Sept 2002, and shipped with both OS X 10.1.4 and OS 9.2.2, the specifications show it to be rather old and probably able to run an OS X version up to Tiger 10.4.11 if the internal RAM chip was upgraded to the maximum.
Far from Snow Leopard's specs. Minimum specs for OS X 10.6.x include a minimum RAM (1024MB+) and other numbers: those are very minimal as more is recommended. And an Intel-based processor in supported hardware, which was supported in the first MacBook 1.83GHz coreduo, in about 2006.
    {And this, also depends on the size of the internal hard disk drive since OS X needs HDD free-space for the system and applications to function, as OS X has an automatic function where it uses free space as Virtual Memory. If not for that, you'd need much more RAM installed than the computer can physically (or logically) handle. Since 640MB RAM is the maximum that also puts a ceiling on the OS X version upgrade.}
Given the serial number (SN) of your vintage product, that narrows the field considerably. This should be it: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/specs/ibook_600_2.html
This unit would be light-years from being in the same league as one that could run Snow Leopard 10.6, but if it runs OK and you have the original software discs, cords, any accessories and box, it may have value. Perhap as a backward compatible unit to use older OS 9.2.2 & before applications. With Tiger 10.4.11 it would be a bit slow, and modern browsers are limited or nearly extinct. Maybe TenFourFox browser and older SeaMonkeyPPC versions.
Usually a host will edit the serial numbers from posts, for several reasons. However given a vintage hardware item that is essentially obsolete (see mactracker.ca database download) there isn't a great risk. But they usually remove those numbers when noticed, regardless of the model/year.
Hopefully the upgrade and other information can be of help to make a decision on what else you need to do with it. There is not much newish software out there for Tiger 10.4.11 and that would require a 'retail install' set. If the computer does not have a Combo optical drive, the Tiger disc set would be even harder to find since there was a special CD disc set (4) of limited availability, in addition to DVD media... Those may be found at times online in ebay or other more local sources. The info from Mactracker can help find the part number for the 4-CD disc set for Tiger in their OS information section of the download offline application. Some of this may also be available at everymac.com, too.
For a look at other newer possibilites, later Mac portables appear at Apple Store> Special Deals> Mac, online; they tend to be fairly new, include a warranty, software, etc.
For something that could run Snow Leopard, in restored repaired but used condition an authorized company that fixes them for a living & offers a guaranty, may be a place to look. A comparison site to get an idea online may be wegenermedia.com, they sell repaired Macs, too. Some may not include install-restore discs, so if you contact a reseller of previously-owned hardware, ask about all those items you'd need; then compare.
Should you need assistance, post back.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Keynote in Mac App Store replaces Keynote 09?

Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question: in the new Mac App Store you can buy what looks like Keynote 11 as a stand-alone application. Am I correct in thinking that the bundled iWork 09 in 'old' Apple web store, is now an older version and that if I want the latest software, I should buy one or all three of Pages, Numbers and/or Keynote from the Mac App Store?
    Many thanks.

Hmm, sorry, I think I've answered my own question. Just re-read the descriptions in the App Store and it says all of these 3 are still version '09. I guess Apple has just made it easier (and a bit cheaper) to buy them individually online rather than via a CD and box.
I'd heard a rumour that iWork '11 was due early this year so thought these apps might be the new versions, but I guess I have to keep waiting!

  • After upgrading to OS 10.8, my Mac App Store is not working. It says: Cannot Connect To The App Store

After upgrading to OS 10.8, my Mac App Store is not working. It says: Cannot Connect To The App Store. Kindly Help

Also having that problem - I checked and I am connected to internet (can access other websites or other pages in Apple's website), can login from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with Mac App Store there, but if I use the (external) drive with ML to start up, no go.
I can get to the "Featured"/initial MAS page, and tried going to the login from there, but same problem as Mitoshacer.
In my case, MacBook Pro (2.66GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB external with ML - vs. 320GB internal drive with 10.6.8), March/April 2009 model. Have done searches for the problem online, but nothing shows up (except some for older OS X versions).

  • Update Photoshop Elements 9 from mac app store

    Hi!
I have been using the PSE 9 Editor from the Mac App Store for a few years. Mostly for editing RAW files from my canon DSLR.
However, I just bought a mirrorless Olympus E-PL5, and the CameraRAW that comes with PSE9 will not open the RAW files from it.
There are updates to both PSE9 and CameraRaw on the adobe website, but none of these work with the Mac App Store Version.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
    -Fred

Frankly, it's generally a bad deal to buy the app store version of PSE. Aside from the difficulties updating, you can't install anything that involves deleting mediaDatabase.db3, and once a new version of PSE is available in the app store there's no way to download older versions again. Adobe does make older versions available on their site for download, but they don't recognize your apple ID as a serial number.
EDIT and you pay a premium--you can usually find the boxed version for much less than the app store price if you shop around.

  • Tech specs says I'm eligible for upgrade. Mac App store says I'm not. Please help

I have an older macbook pro. Model identifier 2,2. Tech specs says that I'm eligible but mac app store says that my MBP isn't. I already have Lion. This shouldn't be a problem. Please help.

If your MacBook Pro is from mid-2007 or newer, you can still download Mountain Lion.
You just have to purchase it at the App Store for $20 U.S.
