  • Mac App Store says "Unknown error."

The Mac App store is giving me an "unknown error" when I try to install a purchased app or but another app.
I *think* this is a result of me running a chmod or chown recursively on the wrong directory.  I've run the "Restore Disk Permissions" on my main partition and although that said it fixed some things, it didn't solve my App store problem.
What user, group, and permissions do I need to set and on what files and directories do I need to set them in order for this to work?
As a side-note, I'm logged into the app store with my only account.  Choosing "Sign Out" from the "Store" menu does nothing.  I upgraded to OS X 10.7.4 and rebooted today.  I've deleted the App Store cache files and rebooted.
    Thanks,
    Joel

    Hi Joel ...
How about third party software. If you have anti virus software installed, disable that.
Little Snitch can cause the issues you are experiencing also.
And try deleting the App Store cookies .plist
    Go to   ~/Libary/Cookies
Move the  com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Try the App Store.

  • Mac app store wont load, error "powerpc Apps not supported"

mac app store wont load, error "powerpc Apps not supported"
Im running a 2008 intel i mac with ios 10.7.5 all updates done. Have previously used the store ok.
    Help please.

You're using 10.7 but Rosetta is no longer available on that build. So you can't get PowerPC emulation to run anymore. Sorry but that's been stripped out.
But I am puzzled as to why this would prevent Mac App Store from loading.
Could you show us a screenshot of this error, and your screen in its entirey here? Thanks.

  • Mac App Store log in error message 'connection failed'

    Hi all,
I access the internet via a local network and proxy server at my workplace who also use the websense firewall software. We've managed to sort it finally that we can log into iTunes, but still cannot log into Mac App Store using the same AppleID and password. Whenever I try I keep getting the 'connection failed' error message.
    Any ideas anyone???...

  • I Deleted the mac app store because of error 4 and i cant download it with software update

I Deleted the mac app store because it showed error 4 and I cant download it with software update.

I guess you have no time-machine or carbon copy cloner backup at hand.. then you will go a manual way.
Mac AppStore is included in 10.6.6 first and a updated better version ( the latest ) is in 10.6.7, so I focus on the later :
Use the shareware ( works without paying , nag screen only ) called "pacifist" . Locate the 10.6.7 update package on your harddisk, mount the dmg, go inside and right-click the installer package, it wil offer you top open it with pacifist instead of Apples OS installer.
Inside pacifist you can see the various sub-packages, one item is the Mac App Store, select it and choose "install to default location" from pacifists menu.
This way you bypass the OS' logic that it is already up to date and will find AppStore in your Applications folder.
Note that this scenario is totally unsupported by Apple of course and you do it on your own risk.
The official way if you have messed up the OS and have removed parts of it, would be to wipe and reload OSX plus its updates to be back..

  • I cannot sign into App Store. "unknown error" and then "We cannot complete your request. There has been an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (4)"

I cannot sign in to the App Store.
I changed countries a few months ago and updated all my account info and everything was working fine, until recently, while trying to upgrade my softwear to Mavericks, which I cannot do. My apple Username and password work fine on iTunes and on my iPhone. I can also access all my account info when I sign in through the website. It just will not work for the App Store on my Mac Pro.
When I click "Welcome" under Quick Links it asks me to sign in. I sign in with my Apple Username and Password and then it DOES NOTHING
When I click on "Free Upgrade" and then "Install" on the mavericks software, it asks me to sign in again. This time it says "unknown error" and then it says "We cannot complete your request. There has been an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (4)"
I''m completely blocked. I cannot procede without being able to update my software.
    Please help me.

    You could try this.
Back up all data.Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Reboot and test. If there's no change, restore the item you deleted from a backup, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, you may need to recreate some of your settings in the Network preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Save Mac App Store password?

I am the primary tech for a school with roughly 200 Mac computers. I'd like to update as many as possible to Mavericks so I created an image with all of the free apps that are commonly used by the students/teachers (downloaded most from the app store). I'd like to allow those apps to update without my intervention but I absolutely can not give out the password for the school's Apple account (which has a credit card linked). Is there any way to save the password for downloading and updating free apps without allowing purchases? Any help will be appreciated.

Launching App Store does NOT ask for my password.  Browsing, even my installed apps, and checking for updates does NOT ask for my password.
Only buying something wants my password.
You can always change your Apple ID password to something a little more memorable.  If you want to keep it secure, make part of it unique but easy to remember, and then add some repetitive padding that extends its length.  Password length is what makes a brute force attack difficult to crack.

  • App Store - An unknown error has occurred

    Hi,
Trying to update OSX. When I enter to AppStore with My Apple ID it always says - "An unknown error has occurred".
I tried to create another account (as I read in some message form Apple Support) but it just keeps thinking, with no results.
I would like to update OSX, but I can't find the way.

    Hi,
I used to do it directly from terminal.
    mv /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces2.plist
mv: it will move file NetworkInterfaces.plist to NetworkInterfaces2.plist
Or you can go directly to the folder:
    cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
    and the move the file
    mv NetworkInterfaces.plist NetworkInterfaces2.plist
    hope it helps

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

My 10.8.3 update did not install properly citing an 'Unknown Error'. Now, my Mail and Mac App Store aren't working. What went wrong and how do i fix it ?

I tried this and still have the same problems. If I open Address book or the Mac App Store I get the library rebuild popup and a hang. I created a fresh user and then things are better apart from the printing issue. Its clearly some 3rd party software issue but the crash logs are meningless to me. I used the excellent Etre check app from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck so I have a list of what is being loaded and can compare clean and crashed user info but as I cant work out which of the startup items, launch agents, launch daemons etc that  are causing the problem.
I have eliminated Dropbox, Mac Keeper and Witness, and it isnt related to my exterrnal LED cinema dispay or my external thunderbolt drives, or any USB devices if thats any help to anyone else. Info from Etrecheck follows -
