Mac App Store Upgrade advantages vs Download from Apple Web ?

Since latest OSX versions the upgrades are checked in App Store and the download of the upgrade follows in App Store.
I have checked with latest OS upgrade (10.8.1 and 10.8.2) and also now with Aperture 3.4.1 that the download time inside App Store is twice longer compared with a direct download from Apple.  More interesting is that the download gives me a file that I can use to upgrade not only my iMac but also my Mac Book Pro.
The upgrade notification in App Store reached my Mac while the related file is not to befound in the italian Apple site but if I change to us I immediately find the file.

I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Yes, OS X updates from the Apple Downloads page will work. If your version of Aperture is from the MAS, the update from the MAS should not be able to update it, that is for the previously sold boxed software.

You can try the 'report a problem' link to contact iTunes Support and see if they will refund or credit you : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
To try and stop it happening again you can use Settings > General > Restrictions on the device to prevent in-app purchases being made, and you might (depending upon its iOS version) also have a 'Require Password' option on the Restrictions screen that you can set to 'Immediately' so that your account's password has to be entered for each download from the store.

Go into your account in the App Store, sign out, do a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.], go back to the Apps Store, sign in and try again.

  • Problems with the mac app store login/ yosemite installer download

I am trying to download the yosemite installer from the mac app store, but can't seem to log in. I receive no error message. What could be causing these issues? I am using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8.

Based on the numerous posts regarding iTunes and the App Store, there appears to be an issue at Apple's end. Although Apple has not provided any indication on the cloud status page.
    Do not change your settings.

  • Mac app store error message failed download.

When I try to download an app from the Mac App Store  I get an error message  "failed to download use the purchases page to try again".
How do I fix this problem on OS Mavericks 10.9.4?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Mac App Store broken. No Download is possible

    Hi
Since a really long time i am unable to download any app in the Mac App store.
When i am clicking the download button a turning wheel appears in the upper left corner but vanishes after several seconds.
Nothing happens at all. No Download, No login no nothing...thats really confusing
    What I already did
I inserted these lines in Terminal:
    rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
    rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
    rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/*
I entered the debug menu of the App store and resetted the app (and cleared the cache)
    I unlogged from itunes
    I forced quit storeagent..
    Nothing works
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem? I really want to download OS X maverick but i cant without the access to the app store..
I am using OS Snow lion. (aluminium mac late 2008)

By chance, did you check your Applications folder for the App Store  ??
Unfortunately, on v10.6, this can be a bit complicated ...

  • Mac App Store upgrading to Mountion Lion on two computers

Is there a way to install Mountain Lion (purchased from the Mac App Store) on two computers without having to download it twice? Can it be downloaded on one computer, and then not automatically installed, as most apps are? And then the installer copied to the second computer?

This program will make a bootable DVD/USB Flash Drive and the program is free.

  • HT4479 Mac app Store Issue: Trying to download the app store application so we can install recently purchased software update of 10.7 but unable to do so because we don't have updated software. Need assistance in installing update that's already been purc

Trying to downloads App store application for the sole pupose of downloading a purchased OS update 10.7. We cannot download the app store until we have a software update but need the software update to download the app store.

There is no Mac App Store app that you can download. The Mac App Store is installed with the update of previous installations of Snow Leopard to version 10.6.8. v1.1.
Does your Mac have OS X Snow Leopard installed? If not, you have to install it before you may go further.

  • Mac App Store will will not download anything.

    Hi,
I have been attempting to download Lion this week with little luck. I have attempted to download it numerous times through the Mac App Store, and each time I click the "Buy" button nothing happens. No downloads start, or are queued, no apps are added to my Application Folder, or Dock. This happens regardless of the App I select. I have attached a video of my most recent attempt to download.
I have tried several solutions offered on here, I am currently running 10.6.8 on my MacBook with 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4Gb of ram, and ample hard drive space. Is anyone else experiencing this particular problem with the Mac App Store? Has anyone managed to resolve this issue?
    Thanks.

Download and install the 10.6.8 v1.1 Update Combo over your current installation and hopefully it will fill in the missing pieces to your Mac App Store.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    To be doubly sure, I would Trash the MAS and these files before installing the update combo;
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
    ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist

  • Now, my iMac doesn't display the Mac App Store properly! What's up, Apple?

Okay, I mentioned that my MBP was not displaying the Mac App Store properly... now its my iMac! Stupid blue boxes and unloaded tiles are the problem. Before anyone asks, my Internet connection works well. Anybody else having this problem (see photo)? What's up, Apple?! I'm tired of reloading the page and crossing my fingers. Fix your junky software!
Oh, when you added OS updates to the App Store, that's when problems started. Thanks, Apple!

Well, there's nothing wrong with my ISP or strength of my wi-fi signal. As you can see from the enclosed photo, the signal is very strong at the top of the UI. The picture was taken several minutes AFTER waking from sleep mode and after a page reloading (the Mac App Store actually displayed more icons, prior to the refresh). Additionally, the Mac App Store is slow as heck to load. I don't have any of these problems with any other Internet connected application, including the App Store on my iPad 2! All of the problems are localized around the Mac App Store. Ironically, the app store on my Windows 8 Pro virtual machine runs without a hitch!
Mac App Store icons don't always load correctly w/ strong wi-fi signal
No problem with the Windows 8 store running on a virtual machine using Parallels Desktop 8 (see, no ISP issues!)

Just a reminder... this happens to BOTH of my Macs (MBP & iMac)! My PC, Ubuntu, and Chromium virtual machines run Internet-connected applications without a problem. I hate the Mac App store!

  • Mac app store top free full of paid Apple products?

Just curious, why is the Top Free Apps list on the Mac App store filled with Paid apps and just a few actual free apps. So iMove, iPhoto, Keynote, Pages,  Numbers, these are £10.49 and £13.99, not free?

Because if you qualify, they are free. If you don't qualify, they're paid.
    1. They are free with a new Mac bought starting 1 OCT 2013.
    2. They are free if you own iWork '09 and upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9.

  • AU Lab downloaded from Apple web site - won't open!

I just downloaded to my iMac running OS X Mavericks and I get the following error message:
"AU Lab" can't be opened because it is
    from an unidentified developer."
    Any suggestions?

    Hey bsouthj,
I found the following information about that message you encountered, it has to do with your security settings:
The app you tried to open was not registered with Apple by an identified developer. This doesn’t necessarily mean that something’s wrong with the app. For example, some apps were written before developer ID registration began. However, the app has not been reviewed. Also, there is no way for OS X to check whether the app has been modified or broken since it was released. A common way to distribute malware is to take an innocent app and insert harmful code into it, and then redistribute the infected app.
The safest approach is to look for a later version of the app from the Mac App Store or check for an alternative from an identified developer.
In addition to apps, other types of files may not be safe. Scripts, web archives, and Java archives have the potential to cause harm to your system. Of course, not all files like this are unsafe, but you should exercise caution when opening any such downloaded file. An alert appears when you first try to open these files.
You can choose to override your security settings and open the app anyway:
In the Finder, locate the app you want to open. Most apps can be found in the Applications folder.
Press the Control-key, then click the app icon.
Choose Open from the shortcut menu.
    Click Open.
The app is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you will be able to open it in the future by double-clicking it, just like any authorized app.
For more information about protecting your Mac from harmful software, see:

    exactly what the title says.

On the menubar, App Store > Store > View Account > Sign in > click on View Hidden Purchases.

  • Mac App Store is able to download new apps but not update old ones

Well title says it all. I am able to download new apps (just bought GTA: Vice City to try) but when I hit update it says
I updated my laptop to mountain lion this morning and everything works except softweare updates. I can not use iPhoto because it needs an update but as you can see I am not able to
This is very irritating, anyone have any idea?
    Things I have already tried:
    Deleting app store cache
    Deleting app store cookie
signing out and then back in

Put the app in the Trash and try to download it again. It should give you the up-to-date version. If it works, then you can empty the Trash.
