Mac attempting to open folders with the Icon Composer application

When opening a folder from anything other than a finder window(like the "Open In Finder" button in a stack or by clicking the preview icon in the Get Info box) my Mac attempts to open the folder with the Icon Composer application. Of corse this produces an error saying the Icon Composer cannot open files of this type. It is like the "Open With" setting got messed up somehow though there is no "open with" option for a folder that I can find. It does not matter whether the Icon Composer is running or not though this issue did not start until after I ran the application for the first time.
I have tried renaming the finder's .plist file and the finder's settings seem reset but the problem persists. If it were a problem with the Dock it would not persist within other apps(including the Get Info window right?
Any advice?

never see this one. try resetting launch services. delete the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.launchservices.plist and try this again.

    Hi Daddyfred,
CS4 Photoshop has not been tested on Yosemite. But still you can try the Java 6 update using the below link.

  • Opening Folders in the Mac

    Hi,
I have a question about navigating the different folders within the Mac. On my windows machine whenever I open a folder, it open the contents of that folder within the same window.
On the Mac, When I click on a folder it opens a a whole new window to display the contents of that folder. This can get very annoying as I move through the different folders on my machine.
Does anyone know how to change this behavior so the mac opens folders within the same window?
    Thanks,
    Danny

Press the oval button at the top right corner of the window and try opening the folder again.

  • Why do I have a black screen with the icon spinning round and won't open?

why do I have a black screen with the icon spinning round and won't open my photos?

Because there is a problem. Want to try fix it?
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Terrance Devlin answered a question about iPhoto (4-2012) re:copying iPhoto Library to an ExHD, and losing all the albums. I can't locate the "Choose Library" when I open iPhoto with the opt button. Can anyone help?

I tried to move my images (over 25,000) to an External Hard drive to open up some memory, hoping to make my computer run faster. It took three hours to move the images and I see them all in the mac's menus. However when I try to open them with iPhoto now, none appeared. and when I tried to import them back to the main HD they come in to iPhoto just fine, but not with the albums nor any of the massive organization i'd created in the original. this represents years of images, and I can't imagine that I'd have to recopy them into folders/albums again.
Terrance Devlin answered a similar question back in April of last year. He said to make sure the ExHD is formatted to MAC OS Extended (Journaled) and to move the library to the ExHD and then open iPhoto with the option button and select "Choose Library" from the resulting menu.
Command "I" tells me that the new drive is formatted correctly. I can't locate the "Choose Library" when I open iPhoto with the opt button.
First, I wondered if the application needs to be on the same drive as the Library. I sure would like to know if I can find out how to restore all the folders I had them in. Terrance's advice helped the user that had asked the question.
Here's the url for that archived discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3849933?start=0&tstart=0
Can anyone help? I'm using iPhoto 5. My MAC is an OS X version 10.4.11.
    thanks, brokenlom

    Here are Apple's instructions:
If you are using iPhoto ’06 or earlier, you will need to follow these steps to tell iPhoto where the Library is now located:
Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and open iPhoto. Keep the Option key held down until you are prompted to create or choose an iPhoto Library.
    Click Choose Library.
Locate and select the iPhoto Library in its new location.
    (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229 )
Below (in the link below) is what you should see when holding down the option key and opening iPhoto. Keep holding down the option key until this dialogue comes up. You want to select the Choose Library button.

  • IMovie for Mac: "iMovie cannot open files in the "iMovie for iOS Project" format."

    Question, asked professionally
When will iMovie for Mac be able to open iMovie for iOS projects?

    Specs

    iOS 8.1.2
    iMovie for IOS 2.1.1

    Error Messages
iMovie for Mac: "iMovie cannot open files in the "iMovie for iOS Project" format."
iMovie for iOS: "An error occurred during export."
    Frustration
Manufacturer: Apple (a multibillion dollar company)
    The year: 2015
    Hours lost: Three Weeks
Total costs for both devices: $4,000
    Background Details
I just wasted thousands of dollars on these two hardware devices by making the rookie mistake of assuming projects were compatible across iMovie applications. However, the exported .iMovieMobile project files are in an incompatible iMovie for iOS Project format that iMovie for Mac cannot import. So I am stuck with a 15 GB .iMovieMobile project file--for an hour-long+ video--that I created and I was editing on my iPhone for weeks that I can no longer edit on my iPhone due to an error, nor potentially rescue the lost hours on my Mac, the sole reason I purchased it one day ago. The reason I can no longer edit the project on the iPhone is because iMovie for iOS suddenly stopped displaying the video of the project in preview, external display, etc. The clip snapshots remain visible and the audio remains audible, but the video appears fully black. Any attempt to export the video at any resolution generates an error message. (This error applies only to this project; other projects export without issue.) I can save to and from iTunes or iCloud without issue, but import into iMovie for Mac is unavailable for this latest version. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not resolve the issue. Nothing has resolved this issue; so I purchased the Mac as a last attempt, and it appears that I will have to begin the meticulously painful process of recreating the video from scratch with all the titling, sound effects, precise edits, transitions, organization, etc. This video was to surprise my mother for her birthday with "this is your life" footage, including my late father. It may seem like a small first-world problem, but such things carry big emotional impacts. What began as such a wonderfully intuitive and joyful experience has descended into a soul-suffering nightmare of catastrophic proportions. This software grinch stole christmas.
    Likely Suspect
I believe this originated from Apple's confusingly designed iTunes client that removed videos used by iMovie for IOS during a sync, which I successfully restored back to the iPhone. This apparently resulted in iOS seeking and then claiming to find all of the videos, but somehow a bug in the coding causes the audio to play but not display video, and no way to resolve the bug from an enduser standpoint. I was hoping that iMovie for Mac would allow me a workaround, but I'll never know because the iOS and Mac formats are currently and dishearteningly incompatible.
    Suggestions
I never performed a full backup of the iPhone, but I don't believe any of the iCloud nor local backups actually backup iMovie projects themselves anyway. (That's a fail.) So one must back them up manually to iTunes or iCloud.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS DAILY, IF NOT HOURLY.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING OR SYNCING FROM ITUNES.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING VIDEO CREATED OUTSIDE  OF YOUR IOS DEVICE.
    Resolutions
Hope Apple fixes this problem soon? Perhaps.
Return the Mac to Apple, if they allow? Perhaps.
Someone in this community will provide a magical workaround--that I haven't already attempted? Perhaps.
As unlikely these options may be, I shudder to imagine that I may be forced to suffer no resolution and $3,000+ completely down the drain, because if iMovie for IOS worked as intended, I wouldn't have ever purchased the Mac as a last ditch effort to rescue the project. It meant that much to me to surprise my mother by attempting to retrieve this project file from oblivion--but to no avail.

I appreciate you taking the time to copy and paste boilerplate responses to increase your points in this forum, but I've already read all those support articles in depth; but you have barely read my post at all. Please don't guess a fix. Only someone with the latest versions of iMovie, iOS, iPhone, Yosemite, and MacBook Pro is qualified to troubleshoot this, because anyone would immediately see that the following option no longer exists:
Open iMovie on your Mac, and choose File > Import > iMovie for iOS Project.
Read my post before you reply: It clearly says in the title and within my post that I can neither export nor import through iTunes without receiving an error message. So your response neither solved my question nor helped me whatsoever.

  • HT1338 My Mac keeps Looking for Networks? The ICON in menu when clicked shows the WI- FI (in gray) ON then goes to Looking for Network again. Shutting down the connection.

My MAC keeps looking for networks? The ICON in menu bar when clicked shows the WI-FI (in grey) it keeps shuting off and disconnecting. Any Ideas???

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Reinstall OS X.

  • How can I have a Pages document that is shared with me under my Pages section and not open it with the link?

How can I have a Pages document that is shared with me under my Pages section and not open it with the link?

    Try this.
Open the document and select and copy a few pages, say ten pages.
Open a new blank document and paste the pages you copied into that.
Save it with a new name.
Work on those new pages to see if the problem has disappeared.
If this helps, continue breaking up the large file in to smaller chunks and working on them
You can of course later reverse the process and merge the files into one new one.
This suggestion is based on my experiences with large Word files. Breaking it up in to smaller chunks does two things. First, if there is any corruption in the old file, the new copies might escape that. Second, the Mac is faster handling the smaller chunks.

I have posted in Mac pro Eplehust and Oslo in early June to change videokart (which has changed six months ago) got my Mac a month by mail, with the terrible damage the body, but the packaging in which he lay was not damaged. I sent him back to change the computer, 4 weeks, I changed it and checked 2 more weeks. as a result of three days ago, got back, more than half the programs crash, I can not open or closed CDrom, some programs do not come off or stop, and stop responding commands, turn it off only mechanically, not any excuses, I did not get to the store, what should I do?
My patience is crowded, nerves on edge, I have lost my time with the worst service of my life, the only thing I see its the draw Eplehuset and apple to court.
    my e-mail - [email protected]

While writing I made a mistake... It is true I could become aware of the Scorpio incompatibility.
I also tried the same identical procedure with a Seagate one. This disk and the same procedure was performed by some people I know on many MacBookPro Mid-2010 and everything was OK.
We do not understand why this problenm occurs.
Furthermore, If I installed the system on the broken HDD (that works, but sometimes it fails so badly and makes the system experience kernel panic) I could boot from it.
I guess it is because of the **** Apple FIrmware written on the label.
Is it possible that I cannot manage to boot from my new HDD because it has not a "special" feature on it that makes it compatible with apple??? Why making things so **** difficult my god a closer world like Apple one is impossible to imagine.
However Shootist007 thanks for your message, but given what I said I do not think is a cable problem.
