Mac audio TOO LOUD after rebooting Mac

After rebooting a PowerMac G4/500 (AGP) with Mac OS X 10.4.6 sounds too loud (as if it was at top highest volume) when playing audio files, even though the audio setting (keyboard audio keys) is set to only one to three points. Just clicking such keyboard audio buttons (to lower or even increase it) fixes it and the audio returns to its correct volume. What is going on? This is driving me nuts!
Thanks.

Justin,
Thanks. I have done as indicated, shut down and booted, yet the issue persists. For instance, if I go to iTunes and play a song, it plays very loud, yet the audio is set at a single point. I can see it clicking the keyboard audio keys. As said, once I click any of such keys (increase or reduce volume any amount) the audio returns to its normal volume until the next time that I boot the Mac. This is a 100% consistent issue. Weird.

Everything running well with Mountain Lion except one annoying issue. Whenever I reboot the system, the default audio volume changes to the maximum level. Is there a way to control this?

Some sound settings are stored in PRAM. Try resetting it.

  • Mac fan running too loud after update

    I have a Macbook pro 13".  (mid 2012)
    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Storage: 500 gb
After updating to Yosemite 10.10, my macbook pro's fan is running too loud and producing a lot of heat. I reseted the SMC several times but it didn't help. Surprisingly, The fan also runs loud even if only 1 application is open.
Please advice me what should I do.
    Thank you in advance!

I have the same model and I've had the same problem for a few days. I didn't really have problems with heat, but my fan was going crazy even though I was just browsing the Internet. Maybe you're logged into iCloud and have some activity going on. What worked for me was going to:
    1. System Preferences
    2 iCloud
    3. Uncheck things like "Keychain", "Find my Mac", etc. (things you don't need/use)
For me, I unchecked everything and logged out of iCloud. After several minutes, my fan is super quiet and not acting up! Hope this helps.

  • Magic mouse sluggish after rebooting mac

    Hi,
I have a strange problem with my magic mouse.
I have an early 2013 Macbook pro retina. After I upgraded to Yosemite, for a while I had a lot of problems with the magic mouse, sluggish response, disconnecting all the time and so on.
I reset the SMC and that solved the problem, occasionally it would come back but resetting the SMC always solved it.
But a few times, I have problems after rebooting the mac. The mouse is working perfectly but when the computer reboots starts behaving badly.
Yesterday I had that problem, I rebooted my mac and after all the mouse was terrible. I tried resetting the SMC but it didn't work. I remove the device and it had problems finding it, it eventually did but still it wasn't working well.
After a while, I shut down the system, reset the SMC once again, waited for about a minute, turned it back on and as the mouse was still a bit erratic, then I rebooted, and from then on it worked well.
I read an Apple support article that recommends doing that, shutting down, wait, power on and restart.
What puzzles me is why would this happen when I reboot the mac. It's like bluetooth needs sometime to start working properly again.
does anybody know anything about this?

    HI,
    Try Resetting the PRAM
Also, install the v10.6.2 Combo Update
    Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

  • IMac is much too loud after updating to 10.4.9

    Hello!
I just installed the 10.4.9 Update on my Intel iMac. Right after reboot I launched iTunes and noticed that the sound volume of the Mac had been increased by far!
What has been my normal listening volume (50%) is now really loud, normal volume seems to be 1 or 2 boxes on the scale you see when changing the volume.
This is really annoying as you cannot listen to quiet music any more without changing the volume directly in iTunes (what doesn't work with the remote). Furthermore this would mean to change the volume in any program manually. I think that is not the way an Apple system should work...
    iMac CoreDuo 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Sorry for that. I should have had a closer look first, though I did not find a topic concerning this special problem.
Well, I hope there is some update coming up from Apple, for I don't see any practical solution to this.

  • Iphone 5c audio too loud

I recently bought a headset BHS-930 by phaiser and the audio is way too loud whenever I try to play anything and there's no way to adjust it even at 1 on the iPhone 5c it's I can hear whatever I'm playing without even having the earpiece in my ear. This only happens when using it with my iPhone if I pair it with my laptop the volume level is fine but when I pair it with my phone the volume is so loud anyone sitting near me can listen to whatever is coming out of the earpiece. Is there anyway to fix this?

I would've done that if it was too loud for more then just the iPhone. I can pair it up with my laptop and the levels are fine, it's just on my iPhone that it too loud.

  • After rebooting mac, backup from hard drive was too large and didn't happen. I continued the reboot and can safely use my mac now, but how do I transfer the backup files I need from my hard drive onto my mac/macs system?

Seems like a silly question but I had an appointment at my local apple store about a start up issue, ran some tests and passed them which was fine.
After this, I was left to reboot my mac and basically transfer files from my harddrive onto my macbook. However, I couldn't choose the files to be transferred and so I went with the reboot and the startup issue I initially had was fixed, although I need the files from my hardrive to be transfered onto my mac.
There are backups and documents I need.

I'm not sure I understand, but are you asking how to copy files from your external drive? Open two Finder windows. In one find the files you want to transfer, in the other where you want to put them. Select the file and drag it over.

  • Soundblaster ROAR Mac USB Connection Lost After Reboot

I am using the device on my Mac. I currently connect it via USB, but also ran into the problem with Bluetooth. I set up the device for sound in System Preferences and everything works correctly. However, if I reboot the computer, the Mac is not seeing the device and won't reconnect via USB. I have to go back hit the Play/Pause button to connect it again via USB.
This is obviously frustrating. Is there a way to solve this problem? My Mac is running Yosemite 10.10.2.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Hi jwt0001,
As with any electronic devices, especially those with built-in batteries, leaving them connected to your PC or electrical socket that is always turned is not good for your battery. Although batteries these days have special circuitry to cut power off once it has reached its full charge, such practice can diminish your battery's lifespan/charging cycle. If your Sound Blaster Roar is connected to your PC and it is occasionally switched off from time to time, this should not be a huge problem.
It is a normal behavior for Bluetooth devices to take a second or two to wake up when audio begins since it needs to re-connect to its last paired connection. I've yet to observe this when connected via USB.
Personally, I pair my Roar to my phone via Bluetooth; I usually turn on the speaker, turn on Bluetooth to connect and start playing music. It does take a couple seconds to do this each time but is not so much of a hiccup for me.
    Cheers,
    Colin-CL

  • Is there a Re-Map option on MAC? (Reconnect automatically after reboot).

Ok...have a NAS storage box that I can map to from the MAC via IP address...works fine...
But if I reboot the MAC I loose this mapping. (And have to remap it each time). In Windows there is a Reconnect at Login.
Is there anything like this on the MAC? So I don't have to Remap or ReMount this device?

There are several ways of doing this, depending on quite how you want it to work.
Do you want it to mount when the machine boots, or when you log in?
There's a difference. If you mount it at boot time, it'll be available to all users. If you mount it when you log in, it won't mount until you log in.
The latter is easiest to implement - Just drag the icon of the shared volume to the Login Items panel of the Accounts preferences (System Preferences -> Accounts -> (your account) -> Login Items).
Anything here will be opened when you log in. In the case of a shared volume that will initiate a remount of the server.

  • Mac Pro Too Loud

I have 4 units of Mac Pro. All have same specs. Early 2008 model, 2.8ghz Quadx2, 8gb ram, 320gb hardisk, 2tb (2x1tb raid). All my other 3 mac pro seems to be normal and silent. And this one mac pro of mine seems to be louder than the other 3. It has a humming sound. the fans seems to turn faster than the others. Any got any experience with this? Please help, Thanks.

I have the same unit. It's the ATI Radeon HD2600 video card fan. It sounds like a jet warming up on the tarmac. The "genius" at the local Apple Store told me I didn't have a problem. If you put your finger on the fan it goes completely quiet. I teach in a lab with 30 G5's and MacPro's (all earlier than the 2008's) and my one new Mac Pro makes more noise than my entire lab of 30 machines. Combine that with the "on again, off again" USB problems, I'm beginning to realize this is not going to be a pleasant experience.

  • Mac OS X dropped after rebooting

Did, but it did not help. Add to the description of the problem, that when you turn on my iMac on display Apple logo is displayed temporarily, and instead it is a circle, crossed the line.

  • 10.6.7 - Audio Settings Reset after reboot & plist missing

    Hey all,
I have a mac pro and I'm having an odd issue similar to http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10412664-263.html.
I set my settings on the sound preferences. Once I reboot the sound setting resets.  It seems to be a preferences issue and as the article states its' located here:
Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > Audio
    The files will be:
    com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Unfortunately, I'm unable to locate these files for whatever reason they are long longer on
    Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > Audio or  <home directory> Library > Preferences > Audio.
I thought it was find i'll just move it from the new macbook pro with 10.6.7 but that computer also doesn't have these files anymore.
    Question:
    Where are these files

On my computer, those 2 plist files are right where you indicated.   Are you sure you looked in the right place?  Did you use spotlight to search?

  • Audio too loud on my MacBook Air!

So, I just purchased my MacBook Air from Best Buy (as an Open Item since there was an awesome markdown plus coupon markdown on top of that, and 18 months financing is pretty cool too).  My problem is that the sound is extremely loud on this system, especially when I have headphones plugged in.  I have the master volume at the 4-5 level (out of 16, mind you), and headphones can only be set on 1 (or if using the gradual shift with Shift+Option+Vol Up/Down it would be more like .5).  If I have it set to full volume, the speakers are blaring (and I'm sure I'd be permanently deaf if I tried that with headphones on).  This is my first Apple laptop, and I don't have this issue with my iMac (but I've got a pretty decent set of external speakers hooked up to that, so if there is an issue I don't notice it).
I tried fiddling with the sound in the System Preferences, but all I have access to is the Alert Volume slider and the Output Volume slider (which I found is the same as using the volume hot keys).  And for the Output preferences tab, I can select the headphones, but all it gives me is a balance slider, no individual volume control for them.
I've been googling and searching this issue in this Support Forum, but most of what I'm finding is about the system having the opposite problem (extremely low audio), and the few that seem to have the same problem as I do aren't really getting a definitive answer.  I thought I saw one where somebody had this problem and took it into an Apple store, where they popped the laptop open and noticed that something wasn't hooked up correctly (wires hooked up wrong, or something like that).  But I can't find that particular thread anymore, so I'm a bit uncertain on that - anybody know where that thread is and can I have a link?
I'm wondering if this particular MacBook Air was returned because of this sound issue.  Should I take my MacBook Air in to get it looked at?   And if so, should I just go into a full Apple store rather than the Geek Squad (which is more PC oriented)? I did purchase a Geek Squad Black Tie plan, mostly for the accidental coverage.  (I'm a klutz).

I think I might have figured out why the volume is bothering me.
On my iMac, I have a decent set of Creative external speakers hooked up and it has an external volume/bass controler w/ headphone jack.  I've set up the volume on the speakers to a comfortable level, and use the iMac internal sound control to do minor editing - which is normally set around 11 out of the 16 "notches" and that way I can increase/decrease w/o fiddling with my Creative volume control.
But when I unplug those speakers out of my iMac, I end up with the insane volume that I'm not used to (I jumped when the sound played and had to mute it.  XD  I think I should start video logging my troubleshooting for the lulz.)  I also figured out that the system remembers the sound levels when you plug/unplug headphones/external speakers.  Very handy.  :3
So, I'm just used to having a fine tuned control over my sound, and when I started playing on my MBAir, I thought something was wrong.  I'm probably just going to go get myself a really good set of headphones that have a volume control on them so I can get the same results I get from my iMac.
Thanks for the help!  <3  I'll let y'all know if I run into anymore problems!

  • My Mac is very slow, after installing mac OS x snow leopard

    Hi
I am quite sad to note that the new Mac OS X Snow leopard software is a big let down. After installing i found my mac has become very slow, its taking a long time to process applications and stuff. It does not shut down completely, i get an error message most of the time saying i should press the power button for 5 seconds in order to shut down or off the computer completely.
Please advise should i just go back to the old version or is there a fix to this
    Thanks

Did you update your applications as well? Which are slow? How much memory is installed? How full is the hard drive?
