.mac backup information

I am going to be purchasing a intel imac soon and am gathering info on how to best transfer my files from my powerbook G4 to the imac. I do use the .mac backup. Will I need anything besides .mac backup and will it be a easy process?
Thank You
Brutis
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

.mac backup needsd to be paid for. i know that there is a trial, but i don't know if the backup is a part of that. if it is, and that suits you - go ahead, but there is an app that comes with os x that allows you to migrate system preferences including apps and documents and pictures and videos...it is conveniently called migration assistant and it is in the utilities folder in the apps directory. you can also migrate across platforms - windows and such...hope that helps.

  • How to find old export presets on an old Mac backup?

    Hey,
I have just bought a new computer MBPR and have started from scratch with everything, instead of loading it from my last backup from my last MBPR. However, I had a load of export presets with different watermarks etc that I would like to load onto my new machine.
    How can I do this?
At first I thought I could find where the presets sit on my current system: /Users/Mikeys/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Export Presets/User Preset).
So I tried finding this folder on one of my backups, but there is NO Users/Mikeys/Library folder?
    The only similar folder is this: /Volumes/Mac Mac/Backups.backupdb/Mike’s MacBook Pro/2014-01-07-204958/Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom
Which doesn't house the presets, only the Registration information
    Help please?

    Hi,
    Use below procedure
    1. Go to /sapdb/SRD/data/wrk
    2. cp -rp dbm_knl dbm_knl_OLD
    3. vi +<Line in which the corruption occured> dbm.knl
see there must be a corruption in the given line and it will specified with a green color
delete that part and make the format as per the above line
    4. save the file
    5. execute the procedure again from Database studio or Database Manager
(Note: Make sure that you have taken the backup first of dbm.knl file Because any extra entry may cause another corruption)
(FYI : This file is only log file of successful backups and returns the return-code)

  • HT201269 I have lost my iPhone 3GS. It was backed up to my computer using iTunes. I now have a new iPhone 4 series from a friend. How can I restore the backup information for my previous phone to the new phone?

I have lost my iphone 3GS. It was backed up to my macbook pro using itunes. I now have a new iphone series 4 (china model). How can I access the backup information for my old phone and put it on my new one?

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

  • .MAC Backup Program

My version of Backup has gone haywire. I was using 3.0 and after a System Software Update Backup no longer worked properly. When I open Backup, non of the menu items such as "new plan, rename plan, remove plan, history, edit plan, backup now, restore, etc. are available for use. So, I downloaded the most recent version, Backup 3, Version 3.1 (v356). I still have no access to this program. When I open the Backup program a window opens showing my "Migrated Drive Plan, next backup schdeuled for April 7, 2006 at 3:00 AM." When I highlight this plan the radio buttons for "restore" and "backup" do not become active. Therefore, I can't do anything even after download of the most recent version. Thanks for any help, Bruce

It seems that you made a wrong turn on the main page of Apple Discussions & ended up in the forum dedicated to the word processing/page layout application, Pages. This is very easy to do with so many folders within folders. I think you'll get the best response to your questions in the .Mac Backup forum. The path to that forum is Discussions: Digital LIfe > .Mac Forums > Backup.

  • IPhoto 6 & Restoring from .mac Backup

Thankyou to all of the experienced mac users who post to these forums, most helpful to people relatively new to mac's.
I have been happily using iPhoto 6.0.1 and the .mac backup utility weekly. last night I needed to reinstall Tiger, then iPhoto - which went fine. I used the .mac Backup software to restore all iPhoto files to the original locations - which also went fine. I can see the 'Pictures" folder contains all the iPhoto photos and data.
However when I load iPhoto I have no photos in my library. I have tried the Apple + Alt keys whilst loading iPhoto and have selected all the options, but nothing seems move.
    Q. - Could someone give me advice as to how to tell iPhoto to display the photos which are in the Data folder ?
Thanks in advance - Paul P
    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi Paul,
Is the library in the Pictures folder named "iPhoto Library"?
When you reinstalled tiger, did you use the same username and short user name?
Have you tried launching iPhoto with the Option key held down until you get a message window? In this window you can choose another library to open. You want to choose your library in the Pictures folder. It might even be already chosen in the navigate window so look at the screenshots to help you out.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer, highlight it, then click the "open" button.

  • Once Icloud has automatically backed up my phone, where do i go to retreive my backup information?

Once ICloud has automatically backed up my phone, where do i go to retreive my backup information?  Also if the backup is successful, can i delete an item off of my phone and it remain in the photo stream?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To retrieve the backup information, you have to restore the backup onto the iPhone. To do it, first you have to restore or erase your device (go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). Then, you will have to set up the device again, and it will ask you to restore a backup, so follow the steps in order to restore the backup.
If you delete s photo from your device, it will still remain in Photo Stream. However, note that Photo Stream deletes photos 30 days after adding them

  • Why database backup information is not in rc_rman_status

    Hi,
I used rman to backup dozen of databases. Only 3 database backup info is in rc_rman_status. I can see all databases fromrc_database. From EM console, every database target page shows the daily backup information. What happened?
I need to create a report for daily backups of all databases. I want to pull information directly from rc_rman_status. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Laura

    Hello,
It is possible that your recovery catalog is 10g but you have performed a backup using a lower RMAN client such as 9i. I believe RC_RMAN_STATUS is a 10g addition and hence the 9i RMAN client will not populate these tables. Obviously I can't guarantee this is your problem, but if you have a mixed Oracle environment, this is a high possibility.
    Hope that helps
    Andy

  • Moving to new laptop from .mac backup

My iBook (running Tiger) died last week, but fortunately I was able to quickly backup the entire hard drive using the .Mac Backup program beforehand. Now I've got a MacBook Pro coming (running Leopard), and I'm wondering how best to do a setup and restore. Should I...
    1. Simply restore the entire backup, replacing the existing Leopard install, and then reinstall (upgrade) to Leopard
    2. Expand the backup to an external Firewire drive, then use Leopard to setup the computer from that drive (assuming that's possible in Leopard)
    3. Partition the new hard drive and restore my old drive to one of the partitions (the primary initial problem being that my old drive has about 110 GB of data and the new drive is only 160 GB total)
    4. Restore in some other creative way I haven't yet considered
    5. Take my new computer to the Apple Store and let them figure it out.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, since I'll be new to Leopard. I've got to get back up and running in the quickest way possible, but yet I don't want to do something that will cause me more trouble/work later on.

    Tim
I don't know anything about .Mac but I'd be surprised if it provides you with a full bootable backup.
You wrote <I don't want to do something that will cause me more trouble/work later on. >
That being the case I would strongly suggest that you procure for yourself a FireWire external drive, and on a regular basis make a complete bootable clone of your entire hard drive. It's the only real insurance for that rainy day when something horrible happens and your computer crashes.

I accidentally stored my backup information on my aunties iPad 2 so her information is gone. How do I restore it back?

Connect to her computer again and see if you can find her latest backup in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices.
If it is still listed, restore it again and use this backup again after the new setup.
If you already synced after you used your backup on her device, the info is gone, iTunes replaces each backup with the new one, unless you use a backup to restore from. This backup will be marked with a time stamp and will not be removed from the list until you delete it.

  • Try to publish ical - error "your .Mac account information is not correct"

I try to publish a calendar from my home computer so that I can see it on my work laptop (both Macs); and I get an error "Your .Mac account configuration is not correct. Calendar could not be published. Your .Mac account information is not correct. You cannot publish to .Mac until you have configured your .Mac account." Its setup and configured. Any ideas?

I had the same thing and did the following two things which got it to publish. Not sure which one fixed it but give it a go.
    1. Open your .mac pane in system preferences. Sign out and sign back in.
    2. Change the name of the calendar you're trying to publish.
    Good luck!

  • .Mac Backup vs Time Machine

Not sure I've got this figured out. Do I use both .Mac's Backup along with TM or do I use one or the other? How/why would I use both?

    1) Dot Mac's Backup is extremely flexible in meeting many different user backup scenarios
-Apple provides numerous Quickpicks for easy data type and Application's data backup selections
-Easily configurable for any single data item to numerous data items to be backed up
-Can create multiple backup Plans each with their own backup time schedule
-Any Plan can backup to a combination of media each with their own backup schedule
-Can backup in compressed form to a user's .Mac iDisk (requires a .Mac subscription of ~$100/year)
    -Provides a flexible restore feature
-Has a specific .Mac Backup User forum for getting technical help from other users
-Can be used on Mac OS X version prior to Leopard as well as Leopard (Leopard does require Backup v3.1.2)
-The flexibility can confuse a user because of the multiple choices provided
-Provides a traditional Full + Incremental backups and uses backup space less efficient than for Time Machine but does retain data for as long as user wishes to keep it.
-Backup time schedules are done only on a daily basis. That is, a Plan can backup to a specific media only once per day automatically. To perform backups more frequently the user must do so manually.
    2) Time Machine (only available with Leopard)
-Apple provides a single interface for controlling what is to be backed up. This is done by a counter intuitive 'exclusion list'
-Time Machine will silently remove backup data (at least in its current form) which may be poorly understood by the user
-Time Machine, once setup, operates in the background automatically and captures data once per hour every day.
-Time Machine is restricted to backing up to HDs only. Backup to optical media and tape for example is not supported.
-Time machine has a easy to use browser for reviewing backups, managing backups, deleting unwanted data from backups and for restoring data.
-The Time Machine browser is tightly coupled with Apple's Address Book, Mail and iPhoto at this time. The Time Machine APIs are known to 3rd party developers for integrating their Apps much like Apple has done for Address Book for example.
-Time Machine User forum for technical help is available
-Time Machine is bundled with Leopard and does not require a .Mac subscription of ~$100/year. Mind you, Backup can be continued to be used after an initial $100 subscription expires.
-Time Machine uses the backup space very efficiently and far more so than does the traditional Backup's Full+Incrementals.
-Time Machine offers a single backup Plan whereas Backup provides numerous Plans. Plans in both can be changed at any time is user so desires.
I'm sure others can chip in with other pros/cons for you. However, this should provide you with a starting point for comparing the two.
BTW - Time Machine and Backup co-exist without issues.

  • Mac Backup Problems

Has anyone found and fixed problems with Mac Backup where it copies files slowly and then 'hangs' at 'checksum' point.  Doesn't complete.  I'm backing up to a WD Mybook World Edition NAS in a different room which Time Machine won't see.  Backup was working OK but now won't.

That does seem to happen on very large backups (which Apple's Backup app really wasn't designed for).
Can you split the backup Plan into smaller parts?
I don't think that NAS hasn't been updated to work with Time Machine on Lion yet, but should work with Snow Leopard, if you have a decent WIFI connection.  Make sure you have the latest version of the software.

  • Can I retrieve files from a modern Mac Backup drive to a PPC Mac?

Can I retrieve files from a modern Mac Backup drive to a PPC Mac?  I have been having problems with my Macbook Pro not starting up.  I need to figure out how to access files with my PPC Desktop; if possible.
What type of files can I access and what type I cannot?
My Macbook Pro: MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 750GB HD, 2.2 GHz, 6 GB RAM
    My PPC: Power mac G4/Upgraded 1.2GHZ /800+RAM/3 HD =400+ GB, Mac OS X (10.4.2)
    Thanks in advance,
    God bless

You will need software that is compatible with the data files on the backup drive, ie. if they are .doc files you will need Word (or a substitute).
You don't mention what type of files are on the drive so it is hard to be specific.
