Mac book AIR or Mac book PRO for Autocad light user

Mac book air or mac book pro with autocad?
Hello everyone, i am trying to decide wheter to buy a Mac book AIR 13 inch or the mac book PRO 13 inch. I am an architech switching from office to MAC, and i am a light user of AUTOCAD.
in AUTOCAD I only use 2d, i dont use any 3d or modeling or rendering in Autocad, i only use simple drawing features of autocad.
I dont want to buy a 15 " because it is much heavier, i carry my laptop around all (i have a back problem, so the AIR would be amazing, but i dont know if it would run smoothly
So my 2 choices are:
1) AIR: 13" 1.7ghz dual core intel i5, 4gb, intel hd graphics 3000, not sure if 128gb or 256gb hard disk
2) PRO: 13" 2.3 ghz, dual core intel i5, 4gb,  intel hd graphics 3000, 320gb
Thanks for you help!!

My preference is the Pro because there are more port options with the MBP.

  • Download windows support software for mac book air running Mac oS Lion.. too slow in bootcamp

    Hi guys,
Do you know a site which I could download the windows support software for my mac book air running MAC OSX Lion. Using bootcamp takes a very long time and seems to be stuck. Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Whart exactly are you having problems with?
Installing Boot Camp, manually updating the B.C. Drivers, Apple software update updating the drivers, or Windows Software updates?
You will or have a full Windows install. _ALL_ Microsoft Windows software is through Microsoft or 3rd partys. Apple just supplies the drivers for their hardware to be run in Windows.
If you want to manually install the Boot Camp drivers then try here?:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Underneath the hardrive picture is a link for _Downloads_, it shows up as an error in my browser but when i put in "Boot Camp" in the "Search Downloads" bar I got a large list.
    Hope that helps.....

Is anyone aware of a lower cost alternative to Adobe Acrobat Pro for generating light weight PDFs?

  • Installing Snow Lepard on Mac Book Air using Mac Book Pro

    Hello;
I have installed SL on my Mac Book Pro using a Family pack (with which I succesfully ugraded our third home Mac...); The issue I have is installing it on Mac Book Air; the remote DVD/CD reader link works fine (I can read the instructions on the CD on the Mac Air), but when I double click on the Install icon, nothing happens....
    Help!

    Hi Marc,
You can update the OS while booted to it. If you're running the installer from a disc image or mounted volume on your Desktop that's not going to work. When you go to use Remote Disc, did you enable it on your MacBook Pro and make sure both machines were connected to the same network?
It's a pretty straight forward process, where are you getting hung up on the Remote Installer?

  • Should I get a high end macbook air or a macbook pro for digital graphics?

I wanna get into some 2d graphics. Drawing professionally with a tablet and such. Looking into 2D animation really. Maybe a little 3D. would a i7, 8gb ram 13 inch macbook air suit my needs? or should I get a pro for this? i really like the light design of the air and think it's a good enough size but the real issue is preformance. I guess it doesn't have to be such a powerhouse cause im planning to get a high powered desktop/imac anyways? I just wanna know which would give me the best results for on the go rendering.

The advantage of a desk top is that it is NOT portable, like the mobile devices. I do 75%/25% business/pleasure on my iMac 27" and it is as secure as possible in its location at my house. Because all these systems are so multi-function these days - Internet, photography, music, writing, and of course business - the temptation is always to have one around wherever you are.
For instance, I take my iPad abroad, or simply out for the day in case I get somewhere and find WiFi and want to use that.  If I only had a MacBook, I would take that out, and risk losing critical business data and images.
Sure, I have Time Machine backups, but for me, the trouble and cost of claiming for hardware and software [if I could prove I wasn't simply careless], and then messing about to get back to square one makes having a stable system at home very desirable.
Then I can take subsets of what I want out on the lesser hardware and not worry.
So it depends if you are playing or working, and of what nature the work is.

  • What are the exact differences betweern mac book air and mac book pro

I have not used mac book b4, and now I consider to buy a mac book. I am a college student and majoring in computer science. Can someone tell me what are the exact differences between MBP and MBA? I know the CPU in MBP is better than MBA and what else? Which one would you recommend me to buy? Waiting for your response. Thank you so much!

So the question is relevant at least to the extent that it is asking for a comparison between a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air
MacBookAir definitely favors portability and sports a dual core i5 at 1.5GHz (max RAM is 4GB not user upgradable)
MacBook Pro  has upto a quad core i7 at 2.4GHz (ships with 4GB and upgradeable to as much as 16GB on some models)

  • Mac Book Air 13" the right device for occasionally editing photos?

    Hello!
I am owner of an iMac 24" and know I want to replace my three years old thinkpad. Mainly, I am using my iMac for editing photos. With the MacBook Air I also want to be flexible to edit my photos also during a holiday or in the train etc. Do you think there will be a problem to work with RAW files with the processors of the MacBook Air? And is there a big different between the 1,86Ghz and 2,13Ghz processor that would make any big changes on editing photos? I am working with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

MacWorld did a comparative evaluation of the October 2008 MBA with 1.86 GHz processor and the Mid-2009 MBA with 2.13 GHz chip. Their conclusion was that that 1.86 CPU was actually FASTER than the 2.13 in most applications.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/141296/2009/06/macbookairmid09.html
They speculated that the 2.13 chip was being throttled by Apple to control heat issues and that's why it tested SLOWER than the (supposedly) slower 1.86 part.
Have to wait for testing of these new MBA units to know if the same thing occurs. But, for the Rev. B and C MBAs, the 1.86 part was actually faster in real world use!

  • MY IMAC is from mi-2011; it should have the air play recopie video : I can not see it on my mac but air play is wirking only for audio; I can not watch the screen of my Imac on my TV Why?

My Imac should be able to get the recopie video via Air play because it is from Mid 2011.
Nothing work except the audio : Why?

No way for us to know for sure (without similar product/issues) but the
HP Support site suggests that with the current Mavericks OS X 10.9.x
their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/HP-Product-Support-using- Apple-Software-Updates-for-new-OS-X/td-p/3086229
However that may be limited to certain models of printers or scanners that
already had been known to be working under OS X as of that date in a
prior OS X (such as 10.8.5, 10.7.5, 10.6.8, etc) with earlier product support.

A link to Mac OS X Support's List Printer & Scanner software (HP+ Other)
•OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download
    HP Officejet t65 All-in-One Printer
{According to this page, your old printer has only Windows & Linux drivers
but you may or may not look into third-party driver support through such
    sites as Gimp; though unlikely to be available with Mavericks, or Yosemite}

You may be able to get a deal on a new printer as they are rapidly obsoleted.
PS: edit to add... there was a Gutenprint driver reference for T65 Printer here:
Mac OS X 10.5: Included printer drivers
Yet a driver for ancient Leopard 10.5.x may not be suitable for Mavericks 10.9.x
but the Gutenprint lead may be helpful to locate whatever may exist; or not.

  • Macbook Air vs. Macbook Pro for college

    Hello,
I am currently in college and need to upgrade my laptop. I have never owned a macbook before but some of my friends have them and they love them. I am a music major and I just added a photography minor. I need a laptop that can handle editing large amounts of photos. I will also need to have Word and Powerpoint on my laptop. I will be taking my laptop to class to take notes, so portability and battery life is also something I need to take into consideration. I have been looking into buying one of the refurbished macbooks simply because they are cheaper. Also, is there a major difference between LED and Retina display? Any suggestions as to which model I should get would be appreciated!

The MacBook/Pro has more processor options and additional
upgrades as part of a configure to order when buying online.
There also is a higher RAM capacity in the /Pro, which can
help several top-heavy applications (or a newer OS upgrade)
run better than without. All things considered, there is little
an owner can do after purchase to upgrade these.
The Retina is likely a bit sharper and is of higher resolution
but some users don't say that means a lot to them; however
the way the display is assembled may be better w/ Retina.
And consider the optional AppleCare extended plan.
The basic MacBook/Pro with optical drive & non-Retina panel
may be OK, and maybe less a theft magnet than higher end.
In the refurbished store, the saving could almost equal the
cost of the AppleCare extended plan. However items sold
in that discount area don't offer any upgrade to hardware.
Mostly the specifications of the Applications, and OS X version
that likely would see an upgrade before long, along with the
prospect of multiple-tasking several things at once, would lead
one to consider the /Pro & any options in processor/RAM/HDD.
Some older models allow you access to swap a hard drive, or
add RAM: the newer ones appear intended to not allow much.
Check the iFixit and other online guides if looking into an older
Mac model to see if they say anything about user upgrades.
Also, with a new model an unauthorized upgrade may void an
AppleCare plan coverage of an issue resulting from tampering
if something is broken where one is not supposed to go...
The MB/Pro with or without Retina, looks best for processing
and large file manipulation, layers of image editing, etc.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Face time has stoped working on macbook pro and mac book air

Its been a week and Face time has completely stopped working on my Mac Book Air and Mac book pro,
I have I PAD 3, I PAD 2, I phone 5 , I phone 5, MAC Book Air Core I 7, Mac book Pro 13" core I 7, using all of this some of these devices which are in India also I am using some to communicate with my family using Face time,
just a week Ago my wife was trying to call me using face time and she couldn't connect, she tried and when she calls i do get call but as soon as I answer it said failed and call ends, i though some thing may be wrong with connectivity , but then I asked her to use i pad instead mac book air to do faceting and it worked from i pad to i phone, but she couldn't call using Mac Book Air to I Phone. I thought the ID may have some problem in mac and i asked her to log out and re logging, and there you go, she couldn't even sign in back. i was thinking what's wrong and i came home and started my mac book pro to see what's wrong by logging in to her mac book air using team viewer but before doing that i though lets just cal from my mac to her I pad and then i couldn't even call so i tried to log out and log in and its a same issue i cant login either.
now its been a week i cant log in to face time in my mac neither my wife on her mac book air. when we use ID its says check your network connection, where my net is working absolutely fine as i am using face time from on I pad and i phone.
i think Apple may have stopped Face time for MAC users.
so i can confirm the problem is only with MAC BOOK .
if any one has solution for it, or any feedback that when it will start again, please advise as I need Face time to be working in my mac.
Many thanks in Advance for looking in to my topic.

  • Can mac book air be used for a micro business?

Hi I run a one-person business. I use an old laptop (which now needs replacing)  for:
Creating presentations using PowerPoint and delivering via projector mainly at various locations with equipment of varying quality/brand
Routine office work - using Mocrosoft Office at present
    Email
My new laptop must be light but robust enough to withstand the everyday out of office use
I am a photography hobbyist - not a pro - so I need a reasonable editing feature to
    That's about it
My recently aquired iPad has encouraged me to consider buying a Mac as a replacement for my dying PC
    My question is:
Should I buy a Mac Book Air or should I go for a MB Pro? What are the pros and cons of each
    thanks
    Boss Croker

To answer your initial question first: Yes.
For what you are up to, you don't need super-power on hand, so any MBA or MBP will do. The rest depends on screen size, SSD/HDD space, RAM (>=4GB), connectivity (without adapters, e.g. for Ethernet), weight/size, and... budget.
Coming from a PC (I guess) you'll also need:
    - A handful adapters to be able to connect with whatever you find with projectors and their wiring out there.
    - Maybe Microsoft Office for Mac 2011, but if you don't depend that much on exchanging original MS docs with the outside world, Apple's Pages/Numbers/Keynote may do even better, or one of the free Office-like suites.
    - With an MBA, you'll want a USB->Ethernet adapter. (Forget Thunderbolt->Ethernet, it's useless if you're on a projector at the same time, more expensive, and the USB->Ethernet is offered by more less expensive 3rd-party brands.)
iPhoto, which comes usually free with a new Mac, offers you easy and, for a hobbyist, decent basic editing tools.
    Hope it helps.
