  • Mac book air wifi detection error

my macbook air wouldn't recognize my home wifi. all the other devices can find it and works perfectly fine. its just my MBA that can detect it ive tried turning off the bluetooth while doing it and ive tried turning the modem on and off. help please. After i reboot the device it can detect it but get a connection time out error while trying to connect to the network

    Hi
I'm having the same issue for the last 3 days. How did you resolve this? All other devices seem to pick my home wifi automatically, just my mac air docent

  • Slow wifi on mac book air.. is this normal? (airdrop)

when using airdrop to send from mac book air (11 inch mid 2011) to a mac book pro (13 inch mid 2011) the wifi airdrop transfers seem very slow. a 5 gig file took 30 minutes to airdrop. when i was at my brothers house and i sent 11 gigs to his imac (unsure which model maybe 2009 <- before thunderbolt) it took 3 hours.
i thought maybe this was airdrops fault, so i connected this mac book air to my mac mini (mid 2010) using airdrop, it also took 30 minutes for 5 gigs.
so i made a manual WEP adhoc connection on channel 48, it also took 30 minutes for 5 gigs. i then tried copying files from another laptop (a dell)
and the 5 gig file copied at the full 300 mbps (or abouts) maybe 5 minutes to the macmini
whats going on here??? is this normal for the mac book air?? do i have a bum wireless card?? i was going to ask a genius to switch out the wifi card or check the antennas but i thought i would post here to see if anyone else has problems
when copying to the mac book pro or the imac i made sure that both computers were connected at 2.4 to different networks, to make sure that 2.4 was
tied up, figuring the simulataneous airdrop connection would prefer 5 ghz. ive seen it sometimes airdrop on the same machines on the same network and taking longer because it was a 802.11g network.

seems like any of the 2 computers on at 2.4 ghz (even on different networks) slows down airdrop. but havingboth computers wifi cards on but not connected to anybody, speeds up airdrop dramatically.
sending from air to mini (air = 5 ghz wifi) mini (2.4 wifi) airdrop speed 12 gigs in 1 hour
sending from air to mini (air = 5 ghz wifi) mini (not connected) air drop speed 12 gigs less then 30 minutes
sending from air to mini (both at 2.4 ghz) 4 hours
sending from air to imac (both at 2.4 ghz on two different networks ) 4 hours

  • HT204350 Hey, migration from an old mac late 2008 aluminium to a brand new mac book air. Only the new one has firewire. Transmissiom via wifi estimates ~50h. Is there a faster Way to sync? Tanks in advance

I'll venture that your problem here is that you're using two very different versions of Mac OS X.  The USB adapter has been useful to me when making big downloads or while using other networks, but it might not be your case.
Here's what I would advise, though it may be less than stellar:  Copy the files you need into folders and move them through a USB flash drive or using that external hard drive of yours. (Could the format be the reason your MBA can't see it?). Some stuff like calendars and contacts can be exported too. At least in Lion, I haven't used Tiger in a while.
    Good luck.

Unless you can set the Time Capsule's drive to have it's ownership ignored
you won't be able to use the library on the same volume as the Time Machine backups.

  • My mac book air suddely disconnects many times the wifi while using wifi

my mac book air suddely disconnects many times the wifi while using wifi

Lots of things can impact wifi connections.  If you are at the marginal edge of the wifi range (which depends not only on distance, but what's between you and the transmitter) you may find the connection dropping in and out.  Sometimes a minor repositioning of the computer or transmitter can solve the issue.
As well, interference can also create problems.  For instance, microwave ovens are really good at disrupting 2.4Ghz signals, and that the frequency used most often in wifi routers--so if someone turns on the microwave and it's between you and the transmission point it won't be surprising if the connection drops.  As well, metal blocks the signal fairly effectively, so if (say) ductwork is between the CPU and the wireless router there can be problems.
Finally, I've run into some combos of devices and routers that just don't seem to like each other :-) .  That said, I've not hit that problem with either Air I'm running (an 11" and a 13"), though obviously I've not tried to connect them to every type of router out there.
Just this week I was at a hotel and in my room the hotel wifi was "interesting" with every device I tried (iPhone, Android phone, Kindle Fire, iPad and the two Airs) dropping connection regularly from the work desk.  Turned out if I moved the devices over to the nightstand on the other end of the room (not the best work environment) all of the problems went away, so it clearly was a signal issue and the exact layout of that room and the hotel's wifi.
If the machine has a problem when positioned close to a variety of routers, then I'd suspect a hardware issue with the wifi card in the Air and get that checked by Apple.  Similarly, if your problem is with your home router, I'd check to see if other devices also are getting dropped, since there could be a hardware issue on the router.

  • Home Sharing one Mac Book Air Will Not allow Music to Transfer to the MAC

    First here's what we have
2 users, (2) iPhones and Mac Book Pro and Mac Book Air and a Windows PC
All computers are set to manually manage music.
I have home sharing set on all 3 computers. When l log into either the Macs or the PC I can drag music I want between either computer with no problems. All computers are authorized. When my wife logs into her account on her Mac Air she cannot move any music from the shared computers. We have separate iTunes accounts. Anyone have any idea, why when using her user account she cannot drag the music files over to her Mac Air

for home sharing to work, iTunes must be authorized to the same user account.

  • Mac book air

Which one is better mac book air 13 or mac book pro

no heavy photo editing with layering etc, and nothing beyond simplex video editing, the Air is the better choice.
"better" of course is subjective on your use of intent with same.
Pack around campus/ school?  No question the Air, same for lots of travel.
The new Air was just released, its faster than a base model macbook pro 13" , also much faster 802ac wifi capable, much longer battery life.
only one moving part, no conventional HD to crash.
The (roughly) weight of an Ipad but the power of a full notebook.

  • Airplay between mac book air and apple TV

I just purchased apple TV and I have a mac book air purchased earlier in the year. I am unable to connect the mac to the TV. No devices are detected in airplay mirroring in display settings. They are both connected to the same wifi. Both are on.

If you're not seeing an Airplay icon next to the TimeMachine icon on your top toolbar to the left of your clock, then the MacBook isn't seeing the AppleTV.
What type of hardware are you using for WIFI connectivity?  Some have issues passing the necessary multicast packets to make AirPlay and other Apple connectivity work on the network.  Usually all-in-one modem/router devices from carriers like Comcast have been known to have these issues. (Arris gateways from them will not work with AirPlay or AirPrint protocols.)

  • My mac book air turn on with grey apple icon and spining wheel. then it wont turn off.

my mac book air turn on with grey apple icon and spining wheel. then it wont turn off.pls help

Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?
My iMac's disk crashed also a couple of months ago and I'm still recovering. I have four Apple devices, two of them have failed. Can Apple afford such a ratio?

  • Mac book Air 2011 Serious Problem!!!!!

I bought Mac Book Air 2011 last week in Apple Store of Australia, but I found when I visit internet at home through WIFI , it is so slow and often dropping, I often cannot open any website but other laptop(Windows System) worked fine and fast!!!

This is my first Apple product, I heard someone said Apple is an excellent product but I am so disappointed it at the moment!!!!!! Is there anyone can help me.........PLEASE.........!!!!!!!!!!
    My laptop info:

I just bought the same machine you did last week - also in Oz.
As you noted, I also had issues with slow WiFi as I started using the machine. However, I upgraded to Lion 10.7.1 and have not had any noticable problems since. I did not try some of the other fixes that are suggested so I don't know if they help.

  • MAC BOOK AIR Unusual Data Consumption by Mountain Lion OS

    Hi,
I am using MAC Book Air and my OS is upgarded to Mountain Lion. After upgradation I am facing a problem of data consumption by my MAC all the time from my wifi modem, even without opening any brpwser or Mail. Kindly provide solution for this proble. Please note that all the settings in icloud is off.
    Regards,
    Desikachary

this never happened to Windows unless you have a virus , So is this normal for a Mac ?
It certainly can be. Free RAM is wasted RAM. Inactive RAM is as good as free RAM (it can and will be freed immediately when needed), but can be used to speed up your machine by holding cached data. As an example, suppose you quit Mail. Perhaps it was accidental (command-W is right next to command-Q), or perhaps you forgot to look at something you meant to look at, but in any event, you re-open Mail. It should pop back open very quickly, because everything is still cached in RAM.
So, in other words, don't worry about it. Even if you were having a problem, the source would be elsewhere.

  • I need to sync an iPhone 3GS to a new Mac book air. The phone is currently synched with a machine running windows xp. Is this possible ?

I bought my wife a Mac book air to replace her windows lap top and want to sync her  IPhone 3GS  to her new computer. The phone is currently synced to a machine running windows xp. Is this possible ?

Did a bit more research on this and moving iTunes isn't enough.  You will only get the iTunes library and not data like contacts, etc.  You should take both computers to the apple store.  They will migrate your data  from one to the other for you.
