Mac book Charger

What causes my charger not to charge.  Now it won't charge at all.  The light will not go on at all  and it gets very hot.

You can get a new third party power adapter on eBay for about $20

  • Mac Book Charger - Cord strain relief begs for a fix

After several years of good use, the original AC adapter/charger for my Mac Book developed a tear in the cord that runs from the white 'block' to the Mac. The tear in the outer cover of the cord formed adjacent to the hard plastic 'strain relief' that Apple puts on the cord. With the cord cover compromised, the wires inside quickly broke due to flexing from normal use. We had to buy another power adapter/charger unit for - - yes, $80.
Now, with about a year of use on a second charger, it has developed the exact same problem; outer cord tears at the strain relief point and wires break.
The obvious solution to this, which a worthy ME/EE should be well aware of, is to make simple and easy fixes to the strain relief design. The current use of hard plastic for the strain relief simply moves the stress point from the plastic block intersection out onto the cord a 1/2 inch or so away. The right solution would use any  of the industry standard designs that applies a more flexible plastic strain relief to dissipate flexure over a longer section of the cord. This is miles away from rocket science.
Apple's design of the magnetic coupling connector at the other end of the charger cable is ingenious and worthy of Apple.
I'm hoping they can apply the same skill at fixing things at the other end of this simple but crucial cable.

  • What is normal does wear and tear look like on a mac book charger

My childs school is charging us $80 to replace her charger that stopped working and stated it was her fault it stopped working.  It was a bit frayed at the top but that's it.   The charger was 2 years old when she received it.

    have a picture?
80% of wear and tear you cant see ,which is twisting the cable up on the charger and bending it over and over and ruining the copper feeds running thru the rubber coating over the PVC coated sheaths of the copper wire
So, looking at it often doesnt tell a whole lot.
if the wires under the rubber look very coiled and twisted, that would be abuse

  • Does my warranty cover the mac book pro charger?

I got a new Mac Book pro for Christmas and the charger already stopped working. Luckily I had an old one. Anyone know if my warrantly will cover the dead charger? Not trying to spend like 75 bucks on a new one.

The Mac, so they can corroborate the serial no. and confirm coverage. Can check here:  https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
After this experience, consider the benefits of extending the warranty for two more years, post-Xmas, with AppleCare.

You'll need an inverter capable of producing 85 Watts of power for your Macbook Pro OR You can submit a request to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html

  • Can I use an 85 watt charger for my 15" mac book pro

the 15" came with a 60 watt charger - it is okay to use the more powerful charger (that came with a 17" mac book pro) on the smaller laptop?

Here is Apple's official position on use of adapters.

  • How long should the Mac Book pro hold its charge???

How long should the Mac Book pro hold a  battery charge??

For a single use or how long will the battery last until it needs to be replaced?  For single use, it depends on what you are doing when using you mac.  I find that when using mine I get about 6-6 1/2 hours just using it to browse the internet before I need to recharge it.  If it is one of the newer Macbook Pros that claim to have a 7 hour battery life, It can last up to 5 years.  See this article on notebook batteries to get the most out of your battery: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html.  Hope this helps

  • Mac book pro charger

My Mac Book pro charger has broken. The Mac is from the u.k but I am living in South Korea now. Can I buy a charger out here and it will work ok ???

You may purchase an Apple charger anywhere in the world and it will work.  The issue you have to be aware of the the outlet plug type in a given country, thus you may need an appropriate plug adapter.
