I have a Mac Power PC 867 MHZ, 2M L3 Cache, 640 MB of SDRAM. I am currently running OS X 10.3.9. and would like to upgrade to OS X Leopard. Has anyone done this on their computer and did you run into any issues. I would like to upgrade my software next year and need to have the current OS X to do so. I do a lot of graphics work and run Quark, Adobe CS2, Word and Acrobate.
Any advice??????Indybears wrote:

Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Leopard would install, but your RAM is very low. It should be maximized, esp. since your processor speed is so low and you use graphic-intensive apps. Even then it might run very sluggishly.
Also, many of those apps you list won't run under Leopard. They would probably have to be updated or replaced. -
Performance Problems: Power Mac 867 MHZ G4
I have a Power Mac 867 MHZ G4 with 1.12GB RAM. Going from Panther to Leopard REALLY HURTS performance. Programs launch slower and even MS Word typing characters echoes slower. Is this something that more memory would cure? THX.
Thanks Joe. That seems to have been the bottleneck. Now that Spotlight has finished indexing, the system actually runs ALMOST as fast as it did under Panther.

I am using Xcode 5 on Mac Book with configuration Memory 5 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 and Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. It hangs every time whenever i work on Storyboard and even on clicking on any of the controller it takes time to open. As my storyboard consists of 25 scenes. I searched a lot but did not get any results . I have upgraded my xcode to xcode 5.0.2 which is bug free as compare to xcode 5. Please help I m struggling with this problem a lot.

Was it installed before? Does it show up in Software Update?
Do other updates show up there (realizing that Lion is not getting all the updates anymore as it is no longer being supported).

UPDATING post above.
Excel slowing down is particularly when I do "copy" or "paste" (up to 3 seconds before the action is taken into account).
I tried with empty or very small files, problem is the same.
I checked autoupdates of Microsoft, everything is up to date.
I made the test of David Linc, with no issue.
Anyone having same situation or solution ?
Thank you

I have mac book OS X 10.4.11 model No.A1181 (processor 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo and memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). To which newer version can I update and how?
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and then, you should be able to use OS X Lion.
First, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup of your data, insert the Snow Leopard disc and upgrade to Snow Leopard.
The disc will install Mac OS X 10.6.3, so open > Software Update to install 10.6.8, the most recent Snow Leopard version.
See if your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If you see that it's compatible, call Apple to buy OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Also, check if your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com -
Mid 2010 mac book pro crashing too many times!!!
HELP! I'm basically fed up with my mac book pro crashing so many times in a day. I'm not doing anything tedious, just basic web surfing and music and some microsoft word/excel. I've read that someone recommended to run EtreCheck and paste the result here so anyone that knows how to read them can help me figure out what's happening!
Problem description:
My Mac book pro have been crashing lately. I’ve max out my RAM to 8gb. And the frequency seems to increased to few times in a day. I’ve uninstalled a software that I suspect to be causing the problem but it didn’t help.

I’m going into my third year of graphic design and I’ve had this laptop since mid 2010. I can’t use any of my adobe programmes fluently without it shutting down or play any games. I'm 2 grand into my overdraft and don’t come from a wealthy background, I saved up for about 2 years to get the laptop to help me with my studies and I certainly didn’t pay nearly 2 grand for something that looks nice that I can go on Face book on.
I’ve looked at various threads and posts and it seems lots of people have the same problem but no resolution. Please don’t comment if you have the same problem because I’m trying to get this sorted out not build a group of friends with **** laptops. I think this problem needs to be addressed and apple need to stop ******* ignoring the minority of 2010 Mac book owners that haven’t got a heavy back pocket to fix the glamorised laptop when it ***** up after a year of buying it. Its supposedly a high powered machine, I shouldn’t have to cack myself every five minutes over whether opening a certain programmes going to shut down my computer. Its affecting my education and patience.
This is the error message that occurs about 8 times a day when it does it. Surely someone can make sense of it.

1 Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to your MacBook Pro.
2 Connect the power adapter to the MacBook Pro and a power outlet. Check that the power adapter light is on.
3 Close the MacBook Pro display to put the computer to sleep.
So when your lid is closed your laptop goes to sleep. This is expected behavior. -
Mac Book Pro with Yosemite run clearly slower than Mavericks
HI
I come from other thread about problems whit wifi connection with Yosemite. The great Linc David solved the problem and that has meant thoroughly clean the Mac
I have a Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011 (!only four years¡) with 8 GB of RAM (the maximum), 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and whit Yosemite everything it´s significantly slower that with Mavericks: open a word, do a screening...even when typing fast some first characters don´t appear.
My conclusion it´s clear the max OS that you can install in one Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011,(like me) it´s Maverick. Yosemite clearly slows the mac.
If someone can convince me otherwise I would be very grateful, because I did not backup before installing the Yosemite. And i don´t know how go back. Here you have the Entrecheck report:
Thanks in advance
Jesus

Why is my Mac Book Pro so slow?
Hi my Mac Book Pro is running really slow. It takes ages to perform simple tasks such as opening apps and doing basic jobs. I have run a check on the computer using Etresoft and the results are pasted below. Can anyone see anything wrong or have any suggestions? I have run Disk Utility and all fine. I have also cleared out loads of files on the hard drive and moved to a external one. Thanks.

I have a Mac Book Pro - HELP - problems with bootcamp = too full
I have have a Mac Book Pro. My drive is full. Sadly I had the partition set up at a store that should have known what they were doing (NOT an apple store, but a certified store that carries only Apple products), anyway.. I am now at the point where my bootcamp is full. I've tried reading a number of posts, but some things apply to me, some things don't so here is my situation:
Mac Book Pro
OS X 10.8.2
Processor: 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk: Macintosh HD
Using Bootcamp with Windows 7
I purchased Camptunes by Paragon and tried repartioning my drive that way. It looked like it was going to work until the following error message happend:
Windows filesystem verification failed. Please, repair Windows volume and try again. Windows is not letting me do this because I don't have enough room. Round and round the problem goes.
Initially when I was trying to clear out my Windows side I found a bulky .NET program I wanted to delete. It would not delete it for me (I can retry to look for that error message), but essentially it wouldn't delete it at all. I have no temporary internet files I can delete, cookies or other programs (except my printer drivers), but essentially - I can't figure out what to do next.
I read another post about a person who didn't want to backup their files first. This is not me. I do back up to a LACIE back up drive that has a 999.86 GB capacity with 872.11GB free. What I want to know is do I have to buy another back up to keep it all completely separate? What other program do you recommend to create a virtual drive? Can I get a step by step on what to do? I have the original windows disk if that helps in the equasion.....
My head hurts.... help!interenet wasn't working properly and i couldn't finish
Try restarting while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the startup manager window where you can select the startup disk and reboot.
Then try reformatting (erase) using OS X Recovery About OS X Recovery
Keep in mind, Apple does recommend a high speed broadband internet connection for OS X Recovery. A slow connection may time out before recovery is finished. -
QS 867 Mhz processor in a QS 2002 motherboard??
Hi there.
I'm trying to get a Quicksilver 867 Mhz processor (with L3 cache) to run in a Quicksilver 2002 motherboard, but it ain't working. I've been pretty consistent in my troubleshooting, but before I toss it out (or try soldering the L3 cache onto a QS 733 mhz cpu... muhaaahhuuhhahhh), I'd thought I'd throw this out for some feedback in these lovely discussion pages.
I did earlier get this cpu to run on a Digital Audio motherboard and it booted up no problem - even the L3 cache was recognized. But it was unstable (unstable, but very fast...). I had originally thought that the motherboard was faulty (I got the exact same errors with the original 466 mhz cpu and a QS 733 mhz cpu - both a digital audio and a quicksilver psu have checked out ok in a different machine). I went through much trouble, troubleshooting, and eventually got a new/used Quicksilver motherboard, only to find out that the actual trouble-maker was a piece of RAM. Which was very insidious, because the mac(s) booted okay (the system profiler even said it passed), it only caused problems when I'd open certain applications, such as Firefox or System Preferences (which would eventually crash), or tried to do a new OS install or did a software update (none of which would complete, either in panther or tiger). I'm thinking it might have been a high density piece of ram that got pass me. I think Techtool said there was a problem with a piece of RAM earlier, but I thought it was refering to the new piece of 512mb (which had come from another quicksilver) and I tested that piece in other machines and it was fine, so I discounted it as the source of the errors. It turned out to be a piece I already had (256 mb hynix) and which I thought I'd used before with no problems, but I guess not (I had a couple of extra sticks).
Anyway, back to the current problem, now even with the new (tested) quicksilver board (it's a 2002 - but that shouldn't matter), the QS 867 mhz processor won't work and I don't know why! It did run in the digital audio board, only exhibiting the same errors as the other cpu's due to the bad piece of ram. It hasn't been treated any differently than the other 3 processors I used testing, in fact, probably even more carefully, and they are all ok.
It sometimes will boot to the apple OS X icon but stays there. I also get either a single beep, two beeps, three beeps, four beeps or no beeps at all (ie no power light, just the red light of the board, fans running, etc). I don't know if it got damaged earlier when testing (I did try it on another digital audio motherboard that I think was damaged in shipping), but I'm very careful (and have done a lot of computer updgrading, peecee and mac). The only thing I can think of is that when I first plugged this cpu into the latest QS motherboard, I tried to boot up without putting the heatsink on it first (not sure if this is important or not, it got hot but so did the 733mhz cpu which I'm using now - and nothing smells burned). I heard two little pop sounds, then the computer shut down (as it did before... many times with the other motherboard). I did also find out later that one of the cpu mounting posts wasn't tight to the board (it had snapped from the screw when I tightened it - didn't know my own strength), but usually no contact to the board would just cause no response, not a short to the cpu - and once again, the 733mhz cpu which is fine, went thru the same thing. I did get it to boot after this to the apple os x icon (I let it sit for a day). The motherboard is fine - I'm running from it now with the QS 733 mhz processor (and from whence I troubleshooted the bad piece of ram). And I've methodically zapped pram, reset the pmu, removed/changed batteries, took this part out, put that part in, threatened, cajoled, even sang to it... til I'm literally blue in the face - to no avail!
Any suggestions? Or it this processor fried? Or is there something I'm missing (maybe in regards to the QS 2002 motherboard)? I've searched and nothing comes up that I have to do differently, and when I put the old 733 mhz cpu back in it (not changing anything else), everything runs fine (a lot slower, but fine, as I wipe a regretful tear away).
Thanks for any input.

1 GB PC133-333 RAM (1 x 512mb, 2 x 256mb)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 mb (PC flashed into Mac - no problems anywhere)
ACARD 6280M PCI card (2 drives on it - but the 867mhz cpu didn't like a drive directly attached to the board either)
Power On Self-Test:
Last Run: 28/09/08 08:06
Result: Passed
This configuration has been running stably using the QS 733 Mhz processor (and ran stably before with an earlier qs motherboard in a different machine). So unless there is something different with the 2002 motherboard, and all research indicated it completely backward compatible, nothing I have installed is causing the problem. I have stripped the machine(s) down to the original configurations at some point, and...Can anyone tell if it would?
Yes, if it fits into the slot.
She was asking me if their is a way that a password can be put on the system to prevent him from getting into the Mac?
Use the Accounts pane of System Preferences to disable automatic login and log out or use Fast User Switching to change to another account as needed.

Hello,
I was wondering if someone can help me with this. For a while now, I have been experiencing troubles with my Mac book Pro. Sometimes the screen just goes black and it becomes unresponsive, sometimes the screen has green lines on it while being unresponsive; sometimes it becomes unresponsive after having gone to sleep. In all cases, I have to restart the computer but experience problems there too: I can see the grey screen with the apple logo, which then disappears and the computer becomes unresponsive again, or it restarts. After repeatedly using the power button to restart it again, I usually manage after about 20-30 tries ...
I've been to the apple store several times to have it checked up and every time the hardware check shows no problems at all. I've had my OS reinstalled at the apple store once after which it was problem free for a few days, but then the problems returned again. I really hope someone can help me with the problem or give me some advice on how to solve it.
Kind regards,
Young-il Kim
The details of my computer are
Macbook Pro, 17 Inch, Early 2011
Processor: 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7
Memory: 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Software OSX 10.9.1 (13B42)
Twice after I managed to get the computer back to life there was an error report available (most of the times there was not), I will post these here

Thunderbolt Bus: MacBook Pro, Apple Inc., 22.1Hello,
I was wondering if someone can help me with this.

Hi,
i think i have a serious heat problem and i am a bit afraid of melting the mac book (It happend before with an older mac book pro, graphic card melted...yes, it did...)
i own a Retina, Mid 2012
Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
in use with 2 external Monitors, one TB Display and one Eizo (27" same resolution as TB) via display port and doing lots of stats with Stata and R on it and it get hot like **** (temperature monitor says around 95-100° degrees on graphic processor diod and around 80° on the chip.
furthermore, it creates kind of random kernel tasks with % CPU usage up to 500% (i read somewhere it does it to keeps internal cooling up...(??) ) and it is getting really slow... almost unusable.
Is this still healthy and the way it should be when i use it with 2 monitors?
Will i ruin it by using it like this all day long?
Apple says it could handle two displays. I think it can`t without killing itself on the long run (if you still USE it)
any ideas what to do? i allready use a cooling pad for it (cheap revoltec) but it does not really help, the macs and the pads fans run like crazy, its pretty noisy and gets really hot anyway
Any experiences with 2 displays?
is there anything i can do about it?
Better cooling pad solutions???
Any other solutions??
Any ideas welcome
Thanks & Best
FranzHm, i cannot reproduce the kernel_task thing right now, but this is my temp after working with 2 screens for 10 minutes. is this normal?
100° cpu, 96° on the diode, and 78 on GPU chip? it even was 82 once.
when do i reach critical limits?
apple?
