Mac Book Infinity Home Hub 3 - appallingly slow

Infinity and HH3 installed on Monday.
Wired PC and wireless laptop working very well.
Macbook going like a dog now - virtually unusable and much worse than pre infinity.
Has Airport "n" card so that is not an issue
Used Ping Test on Speed Test site and came back with F result - PCs were A rated.

Hi there,
What I would suggest you do, is download iStumbler on your MacBook and see what other wireless networks are around you. It sounds to me that perhaps you're on a congested channel and there's another, nearby network that could be swamping your signal, so changing channels might be an option.
I hope this info helps.

For about 2 weeks now my infinity home hub 5 keeps resetting itself.
This is getting progressively worse. I'm at the stage now where it's happening every couple of minutes.

  • HP Deskjet 3070a and BT Infinity Home Hub 2.

I purchased a HP Deskjet 3070a yesterday and I can't get it to connect to my BT Infinity Home Hub 2. There are 2 ways of connectng to the wireless network:
    1) Push the WPS button on Hub - but the BT Infinity Hub doesn't have one
    2) Enter the 8 digit pin (generated by the printer) into the routers configuration - I can't see anywhere in the Hub to configure this
I purchased the printer to use Wireless ePrint so if I can't resolve I will return to HP.
I see other people have experienced similar problems. I can't believe a standard HP printer has problems connecting to one th UK's most widely used broadband hubs.
    Hope someone can help
    Brad

There is a third way to get Deskjet printers on a network.  The primary method of connecting the deskjet to a network is to use the software on the computer to do a USB to Wireless connection.
What operating system does the computer use?
The steps to do this for your respective operating system can be found in this document from HP.  The steps start after the WPS method.  USB to wireless will require a computer on the same network and a USB cable to transmit the network data to the printer.

  • Infinity Home Hub Datasheet

Hi does anybody have a datasheet or technical details on the new Infinity Home Hub.  I used to have the old one (black curved one).  This was wireless N, but as it only has 1 aerial I could never get more than 130mbps using wireless, so I changed to a Netgear router with 2 aerials and can get up to 270mbbs which I need with our house.
So I was wondering what the wireless spec of the new HH is?
    Thanks
    Duncan

    Hi Duncan,
    In This.- http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/wireless-routers/1283386/bt-home-hub-3/specifications
    it mentions
    Stated speed
    300Mbit/s
This is the BT info on the HH3 http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10477/~/user-guides-for-broadband-hardware
If you have a look around the forum you will notice a few recent posts where people are disappointed with it's wireless performance and have replaced it.

  • BT Infinity Home Hub 2 Type B(i)

    Hi,
I just moved from a BT Infinity area to a standard ADSL brandband area.
BT asked me to re-use my BT Infinity Home Hub 2 Type B(i), but I just can't get it to connect to broadband.
I plugged RJ11 cable from the purple landline socket to the ADSL socket on the filter, but all I get is power and WIFI lights.
I suspect BT Infinity Home Hub 2 Type B(i) is not compatible with ADSL broadband, but BT service call centre insists it can.
Does anyone on here had experience similar? or know technical specs of a BT Infinity Home Hub 2 Type B(i)?
    Thank you.

have you tried a factory reset of the hub - hold the recessed button on back until lights flash

  • Mac Book Pro with Yosemite run clearly slower than Mavericks

    HI
I come from other thread about problems whit wifi connection with Yosemite. The great Linc David solved the problem and that has meant thoroughly clean the Mac
I have a Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011 (!only four years¡) with 8 GB of RAM (the maximum), 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and whit Yosemite everything it´s significantly slower that with Mavericks: open a word, do a screening...even when typing fast some first characters don´t appear.
My conclusion it´s clear the max OS that you can install in one Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011,(like me) it´s Maverick. Yosemite clearly slows the mac.
If someone can convince me otherwise I would be very grateful, because I did not backup before installing the Yosemite. And i don´t know how go back. Here you have the Entrecheck report:
    Thanks in advance

  • BT Infinity & Home Hub 3

I've just had Infinity installed over 10 days ago and all appears to be working ok. Getting downloads speeds of around 36-37Mbps when I plugged a laptop into the back of the home hub 3 with the Yellow Ethernet cable.
But when I run various speeds tests over WiFi the speed is much poorer, no more than 15Mbps. I have tested the speeds with both my laptop (intel Wifi network card) and my desktop PC (NetGear Wifi Network card), both give similar results.
Using the smart wizard which I installed with my NetGear Wifi drivers (yest they are up to date), I can see that my connection is not conflicting with any other channels in my neighbourhood, but the connection type is (B). I know that both WiFi devices are new and support (G). When I look at the HomeHub router options in the Advanced Settings the options listed are B/G/N. Is there any way I can set the HomeHub to work on (G) ?

    to quote smallnetbuilder
'Using a 802.11g client with an 11n router will get you a maximum link rate of 54 Mbps and around 22 Mbps of actual, usable throughput.
The link rate is also referred to as the PHY (or physical layer) rate, which is the maximum rate that bits will move across the network link. For a 10/100 Ethernet adapter, you will usually see a speed of 100 Mbps and for a gigabit NIC, you will see 1000 Mbps (if you are connected to a gigabit switch port).
The reasons for the big difference between the "link" and actual rates include the high overhead involved in wireless connections (lots of bits used for communicating information other than the actual data you are trying to send or receive) and data retransmission (due to the inherent unreliability of a wireless connection). So maximum usable throughput is a much lower percentage of the link rate, usually 50% or less.'
Its all about understanding the differnece between physlical link rate to actual data throughput, companys love to quote the high numbers to you.
heres a nice read on wifi

  • BT Infinity,home hub 5 signal booster

I recently, two weeks ago, had Infinity installed. Because of using a new cable, not the cabling built into the house, I had to place the router on the ground floor. I live in a three storey townhouse. The router is the new home hub 5 model. I was told by the engineer that it had a range of 30M. I was worried about it sitting on the ground floor as I have a smart TV in the bedroom on the third floor, and we use it a lot for catch up TV, mainly the BBC I player.
Before infinity, my old BT router was on the middle floor, and connecting to the TV in the bedroom was not an issue.
However, now the signal is useless. It takes 90 seconds buffering to get 5 seconds of play time. In truth , even logging onto the internet is now slower than my old broadband.
I have complained to BT, and they have indicated that the range upwards is maybe not as good as all round. So the impression of a wireless signal floating around 360 degrees seems to be incorrect.
Anyway, they have now offered me a "BOOSTER". Does anyone have experience with these? Do they work? If so how?

    You probaby mean this device.
    http://www.shop.bt.com/products/bt-dual-band-wi-fi-600-kit-8W47.html
Not bad if they are giving it to you for free.
They have been field trialled, and appear to work fine, provided you are aware of the limitations of a wireless repeater.
It could however be this kit.
    http://www.shop.bt.com/products/bt-wi-fi-home-hotspot-500-kit-8W3W.html
Which is likely to give better performance that a wireless repeater.

  • Bt infinity - home hub 5 - dropping connection

Ok guys, might be a difficult one for you here.
I have had infinity installed since October. I have always suffered from drop outs in my connection.
What happens is that the big blue light on the hh will turn orange for maybe 5 seconds or so and then go back to blue. But it's long enough to kick me out of an online game for example.
Router logs show something for the disconnection, but no info really.
I have had 3 home hubs, brand new internal wiring in my house, and 4 or 5 engineers out to check things out, as the line was also a lot slower than initially expected.
I have had another engineer out yesterday and today, who has changed my entire line back to the green box. But it has just disconnected on my again whilst playing titanfall.
Does anybody here have any ideas? Engineers are at a loss, BT India support are clueless. I'm out of ideas
    Cheers guys

The only thing that makes me wonder, is that I am not seeing these VDSL up and down resyncs. And most people have been seeing these issues since late January, mine go back to October.

I do have a OR modem around, unused, that I managed to talk one of the engineers in to giving me, as plan was to use my AirPort Extreme, but I didn't want to start using that until the connection was fixed, as first thing bt support would say is that it's my router causing the fault.
I could try the OR modem, just not sure if this is my problem or not. Anybody know anything from the logs I have posted? Or will any other logs help out?

  • I have a mac book pro that has become very slow. It has gradually gotten worse over the last 6 months. What can I do to enhance performance and speed?

    I have a mac book pro 9,2, with intel corei5, 2.5 GHz., 1 processor, 2 cores, L2 cache (per core) 256KB, L3 Cache: 3MB, Memory 4GB, Boot Rom Version MBP91.00D3.BO8
    System Software Version : OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
    Kernal Version: Darwin 13.4.0
    Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
    Boot Mode: Normal
    Secure Virtual Memory: Enabled
    Regarding the Macintosh Hard Drive:
    Available space 208G.66GB , Capacity 499.25GB
Intel 7 Series Chipset, Link speed 6 Gigabit
Apple HDD Toshiba MK5065GSXF, Revision GV201B
Using Kodak ESP Printer 5200 Series AiO
    Memory slots Bank0/DIMMO 2GB DDR3  1600MHZ and BANK 1/ DIMMO 2GB DDR3 1600MHz
The problem I am experiencing is a slowness of response between changing from various applications. What steps could I take to clean up the boot speeds, the applications speeds and general performance of the computer? I would like to restore the speeds of that when it was new.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

  • Mac Book Pro i7 late 2011 Running Slow after installing Mountain Lion

    Hi All,
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues, since I have updated to Mountain Lion last week my mac is now running alot slower than before on startup, closing down and when opening and shutting programs / apps.
Would it pay me to upgrade to 8GB ram?
    Thanks

  • Cant find Mac address BBT Hom Hub 2.0

Hi, I have my NAS severe connected directly to my HH.
Everything has worked fine for months, I had port forwarded some ports on the router so that I could access  my Nas externally.
All of a sudden, ports are blocked and I cannot find my NAS device on the router, it is connected and I can connect via LAN.
Not sure waht to do because  the Nas dvice Mac address does not show up in the device list or in DHCP list.
    thanks
    Keith
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your NAS really needs to be given a static IP address, as DHCP tends to stop working after a while, as the home hubs DHCP table fills up to capacity.
    These pages should help.
    Port forwarding problems
Using static IP addresses on your home network
You usually have to do a factory reset of the home hub, to clear out any existing DHCP table.

  • Control Office G5 from Mac Book at home?

Assuming that I leave my G5 2x2 at my office powered on and connected online via my LAN, is there a way to view/copy files I need, maybe even load program files so they're ready when I walk into my office from home on my mac book?
The G5 is on 10.4.9, mac book is 10.4.10

    Hello Nathan,
Do you have an IT dept. at your job. If so you can ask them to open up a network port for file sharing at work. You will need the outside Network IP address, or you can sign up for a DNS service.
With the port open you would be able to send data files to your work computer.

  • Infinity home hub 2

Well it all went well with the installation, until he plugged the new bt homehub into the openreach modem that is. The broadband light would'nt turn a solid blue, it just stayed orange. Anyway he went to his van and put a home hub 2 with the red ethinet on it, and it works fine. Im now getting 38mb down and 8mb up, with im very happy with. But my main point is, is that when i ordered infinity, they took away my bt talk because they're not compatable with the new hub 3. So surely with this other hub i should be able to get it reconnected right?. I tried registering the old hub phone to the infinity hub and it registered fine. Anyone know about this. Thanks in advance

    Hi Scratch910,
Thanks for posting. Sorry for the delay in getting back. Once the Infinity has been activated and the Talk switched off we can't reconnect the Talk service because it's not compatible with the Infinity service even though you're using the Hub 2.
    Cheers
    David
